[GUIDE] How to change the Sprint banner using CDMA workshop - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

What to change the Sprint banner to something else?
Well here is how.
This is a rough guide, maybe I'll get ambitious and spruce it up when I have some more time...
Install HTC Sync if you haven't already..
Get it here.
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=933&news_id=631
Gonna need the HTC Diag drivers, least I did... these work fine:
http://rapidshare.com/files/293529424/HTC_Hero_DIAG_Drivers.zip x86 32bit
Here are the /64 bit drivers thanks to techwerkz
http://www.techwerkz.com/evo/HTCDiagDrivers.zip
[highlight]Mod edit: No linking to warez site or suggesting users to get warez is allowed[/highlight]
Enter DIAG mode, dial ##diag#, let windows install the drivers...most likely it won't find the HTC DIAG drivers, but they are in the link above... get it installed.
Now in CDMA workshop, you really don't want to be effin' with stuff you aren't sure what it is... but we are here to change the banner right? riight so don't be changing anything else and you'll be a-ok.
Select your port, hit connect, hit read... goto the NAM tab...hit Read ...change the Banner from "Sprint" to whatever..hit "Write".... then you can reboot the phone and its done.
To find your port...

}
Select your port, hit connect then hit read. ( picture shows "Disconnect" only because I already pushed connect... )
Goto the NAM tab, hit read, change the banner, hit write. Reboot your phone
Enjoy!
Mods if there is a problem with me posting the link to isohunt, I'll gladly remove it.

Thank you so much love these tips

The com port you are using is not the one the phone is using. Go into Device manager and see what port it is running on. The demo version will not allow above port 6 so you may have to change the port.

Thx for the info.. great job, added to my thread in first post for easy find

Looks good. My 64bit w7 gave me a hard time, it wouldn't install the drivers correctly so I wasn't able to do it last night. I was however, successful when I used my work's xp this morning so it works now.
Thanks!

w7 x64 here also, and it keeps installing the Diag driver as a network driver....

I have the same issue as well on my Windows 7 x64. Looks like a bug in the installer from HTC. We should let them know its Jacked!. lol

Got it!! For all those with win7 64bit, I have attached the appropriate driver to get the HTC Diag working. Verified this on my machine and installed no problems.

Didn't work for me. Windows 7 64 bit.
Edit: It does work on Windows 7 x64. The 64 bit drivers will not be recognized or installed by the Windows 7 automatically. You must force the installation of the drivers by choosing the "Browse" option then "Let Me Pick" option then the "Have Disk" option.

Thanks, that's awesome. I got it working no problem, just followed your instructions
I was sad though, it only lets you put up 12 characters I was going to put up Mistersquirrle but I had to truncate it to Mistrsquirrl. Still great though, thanks

good stuff guys

I did NOT have to install HTC Sync... maybe because I already have the driver installed for adb to work.
But yeah, just had to install the DIAG driver and it worked (Win7 x32)

[How To] Retrieve MSL CDMA Workshop Method

Update 9/14/10 -- There is an app in the market called MSL Reader that successfully found my MSL. It does require root access, my method will still work for phones that are not rooted. Thanks flexgrip for pointing this out, and mmastrac for the hard work developing the app.

Since the other method using aLogCat doesn't seem to work for everyone, this is a more consistent method.
Please be very careful with CDMA Workshop. I am not responsible for your curiosity, or stupidity!
I have included screenshots for installing the drivers on Windows 7 x64. This seems to be a little different for most users, so I hope this helps. Windows XP should be pretty similar to below. You can enter Device Manager the same way. Some of the prompts will be slightly different, but at the end most of the same dialogs will appear.
Prerequisites:
CDMA Workshop - http://www.cdma-ware.com/workshop.html
The Demo version will be able to retrieve the MSL.
HTC Diag Drivers - http://www.techwerkz.com/evo/HTCDiagDrivers.zip
I have compiled this zip which includes both x86 (32 bit), and x64 (64 bit) drivers for HTC diagnostics. I have successfully tested the x64 drivers on Windows 7, and all works without issue.
The Fun Part
Step 1 - Dial ##DIAG# (##3424#) on your phone.
Step 2 - Connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable. When prompted to install the drivers use the drivers from the ZIP provided above.
Windows will probably not be able to find the drivers:
You will need to manually install the drivers from Device Manager. Quickest way to get there is to press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog. Type in devmgmt.msc:
Once Device Manager is open you will see it cannot find the HTC Diag driver :
Right click on HTC Diag, and go to Update Driver. You will be prompted with the following, choose Browse my Computer. Then choose Let me Pick. Click Next. Click Have Disk. Browse to the drivers you downloaded, and choose the proper INF file. Click Next. Then finally Yes, if prompted :
If all went well you will see it installing the driver. Then finally let you know it was successfully installed!
Step 3 - Run CDMA Workshop you downloaded earlier.
Once CDMA Workshop is open click the word Port found on the right:
You will be given the options to select the correct COM port (Please note the demo version will only go to COM6. If you have an issue with this please Google how to change the COM port to something not in use.):
Once the correct COM port is selected click Connect:
Head over to the Security tab and click Read under the SPC / User Lock section:
If all has gone well you will be given your MSL code! It is the 6 digit number listed after pressing Read. Great Success!
Testing
The following sections should prompt for your MSL code. Enter what you have retrieved to find out if it is in fact the correct MSL code.
##data# (##3282#)
##debug#(##33284#)
##diag#(##3424#)
##svn#(##786#)
##prl#(##775#)
##prev#(##7738#)
##akey#(##2539#)
##vocoder# (##8626337#)
If you followed the steps correctly, the code should work.
Hope this helps everyone with finding their MSL when Sprint will not give it to you. Again, I am not responsible for what you do with this information. This is a use at your own risk method!

Not everyone was having the same luck. There are other ways to get your MSL. My corporate account rep gives me mine on all my phones when I ask. However, this is a method that will work for the masses, and not rely on customer service feeling giving or not.
I get this error when I try to run the SPC/User lock read.
Any Ideas?

alright...that worked...i swear i've restarted the phone before...
Thanks again!
Why not chat up sprint and ASK for the MSL... thats what I did... and they just gave it to me... same with my HTC Hero... they just gave it to me if you ask nicely.

great info. thanks a lot for this.
although EYE am havin a problem, i have a moto Q9c (sprint) and it isnt showing up on CDMA wrk.
i have activesync going and it connects fine to the phone.
i cannot even find the darn thing in device mang...
any ideas?
Worked great for me... Thanks!
Great
Had to restart phone when I changed the Com port, worked perfectly, thanx.
Worked like a charm for me. Thanks!
Here's a surefire way to get Sprint to give you the MSL with one phone call... Tell them you keep getting error 1012 whenever you try to use data or update the profile. They'll walk you through fixing the "error", and they have to give you the MSL in the process. Works every single time without fail!
Dude this works great and is quick, probably quicker than sitting through Sprint message prompts.
this works perfect it gave me the code but after that what can i do with im a noob sorry guys

32 & 64 Bit Windows 8 / 7 / Vista / XP - Attached to this post!

I am happy to release my Universal Naked Driver. This is to allow ADB, Fastboot & APX interfaces to work without installing any package much less multiples packages for users with multiple devices. Yes you can just install them and uninstall right away but why bother?
I was annoyed that I couldnt use my Transformer Prime and Galaxy Nexus without having versions and packages trip over each other. My previous post for the Sensation & Galaxy Nexus was helpful so I thought I would bring to XDA the newest Android driver available from source (which they call 4.0) and make it start talking.
Warning: Uninstall any previous driver package's you may have installed and also manually remove drivers by attaching your phone and going to Windows device manager and right click the entry for your phone and select "Uninstall" on the next prompt make sure to select "Delete the driver software for this device" then hit OK and reboot before installing these drivers
Code:
Google Nexus Devices ADB & Fastboot
Samsung Devices ADB & Fastboot
Asus Devices ADB, Fastboot & APX
HTC Devices ADB & Fastboot
Code:
[B]Windows 8 Instructions[/B]
How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8:
From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
Click ‘More PC Settings’.
Click ‘General’.
Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’.
Wait a bit.
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click ‘Advanced Options’
Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
Click Restart.
Enjoy!
HI,
I see you warning on 0.6.1 about Transformer. So now, is it safe to use your driver with Transformer and HTC phone? ( I am still waiting for my Nexus 7 but I wanna get ready. )
thank you so much for this, it was the missing link in my root adventure
Any drivers for MTP?
Yea i'm having issues finding the MTP driver myself. One would think that this would be on Google's site or Asus's site but there isn't anything. Anyone know where to find it?
Whenver I try to install the driver Windows gives me an error saying, ""The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering." And it won't let me install them. Any ideas? Thanks.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be an option in Windows 8...=/ I've got adb working from another driver but only when I'm booted into device rather than fastboot or recovery unfortunately. I'll just have to live with a non-permanent CWM for now...
Doesn't seem to work on my amd64-bit machine. I followed the instructions perfectly and it just returns with a error saying "windows was unable to install your nexus"... need help here to get adb/fast boot installed on either windows or Linux.
Edit: NM Got it had to install 64bit pdanet drivers!

After you download the driver, unzip/extract its contents. Then you go to your device manager on your PC, and plug in your Nexus. You'll see it with a yellow exclamation point, right click it and select update driver. You can then select this driver manually. Also, if using Wug's root method, make sure you configure the fastboot driver as well. I don't have my PC with me, but I believe its step 6 in the driver install process. Its all very easy, sounds confusing, but its not. Good luck!
Thank you, i ll try it after work, since i havent plug the n7 in my laptop yet, thats why i need it for reinstall the stock rom>< my is defected with asus rom

[GUIDE] ZTE Warp N860 (Boost Mobile) Diag Mode

I needed to connect a ZTE Warp to CDMA Workshop and QPST on my pc, so I did some searching to find out how to put the phone into Diag Mode. Easy enough. Well, It took me longer than a few minutes with google to find the info I was looking for, but I did eventually find it. Hopefully this post will help others. I can confirm this works to get the Boost Mobile ZTE N860 (Warp) into diagnostic mode so it can be read by CDMAWS, qxdm, etc.
1. Install the ZTE handset usb drivers: https://www.dropbox.com/s/thf4ctjee960mnt/ZTE_Android_Driver.zip
2. Turn on the phone and connect to pc via usb (make sure you enable usb debugging in settings>applications>development)
3. On the phone go to Dialer and enter *983*87274#
4. A new window will open on the screen with a list of choices. Choose the first item on the list only.
5. Wait a minute or two while the necessary drivers are installed on your computer.
6. Now look in device manager, under ports you should see ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface (com#).
7. On the phone press home to return to your home screen.
8. Make note of the com port # and you're all set.
You can now connect to qpst, qxdm, and so on. Don't forget to hit the Thanks button below if you found this useful.
Just want"d to say thanks....cause I needed that code...:good:

The above steps work for ZTE Avail z990 (ATT) as well. Works like a charm, ready to connect to QPST/QXDM in a breeze. Thanks.
I can't get qpst to recognize the warp n870. I have all the drivers. Cdma workshop is working just fine but I need to be able to use qpst.
I read somewhere that u have to put the port which is com11 in before it will recognize the phone in device programming. But I dont think im inputting the port in right cuz it wont accept it. Does anyone have some imput?

Worked that time.
However... are you someone that can help me?
Followed your instructions until step 5.
I was a bit confused about which button to push. You said "first item"
So I pushed the FIRST item. The "all functions" button.
Windows came up with it's 3 choice dialog window.
Windows found new hardware.
Locate and install driver software.
Ask me again later.
Do not show this message again for this device.
So then I tried the second one (mass storage+adb) thinking that
maybe since it did a specific thing, you may have meant that one
as the "first item".
Windows did nothing at that point.
No port listing in Device Manager.
Now I'm lost and stuck.
Can you offer any help here?
Thank you,
John

Choose "locate and install driver software". Windows should then install the drivers for you within a minute or so.
If you run into the same message as you did before:
Then I can only guess that it's a compatibility problem with Vista? But like I said, it's a guess. Never tried on Vista, but maybe someone else has? I've had no driver problems using Windows 7 or 8.
Hi...
Thank you for your reply.
Tried clicking on "Locate and install driver software"
Does the exact same thing on my Win 7 64 laptop.
Been going at this since 9am. Very frustrated. About to give up for tonight.
Thanks again,
John
Hi Guys...
Really could use some help here. Have same problem except
Device Manager shows some entries with the yellow triangle
sign. below is a pic of it.
Does the same thing with Win 7 64. Think this could be a 32
vs. 64bit issue? I have several computers but no 32bit OS.
Thanks very much to anyone willing to help me out with this.
J
Today I ran thru this whole procedure on a friend's laptop (windows 8 64-bit) and I didn't have any of the issues you've explained. Windows automatically installed the necessary drivers. The new ports should show up in device manager like this screenshot.
Maybe someone else can help you out..?
Thanks for the reply.
Does not show up in mine because the driver/drivers never install. I get the wrong platform error message.
I have decided to put the ZTE issue aside for now and try and do my wifes phone. And of course I'm having issues...
In DFS on the Mobile ID tab, DFS does not pull the aaa and ha data. And also I get the following errors:
get ds_mip_ss_user_prof cps_error bad_param
get ds_mip_dmu_mn_auth cps_error bad_param
S2 D-710 connects just fine and DFS accepts my SPC/MLS number and 16 digit password. And states
Unlocked in the console.
Going at this three days now. Worn out and pretty much sleep deprived. Sure wish I could get some TeamViewer
help from someone here
Have been laid off so funds are a bit short right now but would be more than happy to give a unlimited webhosting
account complete with Softaculous. Google it if you do not know what it is You would need to get your own
domain name though.
Anyway... thanks again for your reply.

Fastboot Troubles

I've tried just about everything to get my fastboot working. I'm running on Windows 8. I've tried tool and scripts, different drivers, HTC Sync, EVERYTHING.
I've gotten ADB to work but fastboot won't recognize my phone. When I put my phone into fastboot mode, I can go into my computer and look up the phone in device manager and I do see the phone. Unfortunately, it presents an error that say the device has failed to start. This has been unchanged through out every "fix" I've tried. Any ideas?
Windows 8 is notorious for breaking fastboot. There are a few supposed ways to fix it. Exactly what have you tried? Saying you've tried "everything" doesn't actually tell us anything.

Oops, sorry. I've tried the tools that are supposed to set up fastboot for you, I downloaded the SDK and got the fastboot and adb files but nothing shows up in the "fastboot devices". I've also tried the HTC Sync route as well as numerous drivers that are claimed to be the "fix".
What about some of the guides that are available that specifically address this problem?

I've tried all the results on that first page. Nearly every time, I get an error message with a yellow triangle for an icon:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.
Yeah I thought as much. I haven't seen people with Windows 8+ have much luck with fastboot. To be honest the only real fix I've seen is to use a different version of Windows, unfortunately that isn't as easy as some as it is for others.

Download latest HTC driver , go into your device manager in win 8 and in device mgr menu options on top make sure and click show hidden (not connected ) devices. You then will have to click onto the greyed out HTC or android name in device mgr tree and update manually . you have to actually go to the sub folder in the driver update and not just click the folder that its in. Lol its a pain but it does work. You can Google manually install HTC driver for win 8 and there is couple tutorials. Hope it helps. I beta tested win 8
And had to do that. Lol im back to win 7 and Ubuntu now

Well... I don't know what is happening with my G. Everytime I connect it via USB, nothing happens, the directory doesn't appear at the explorer. I've been trying to install the drivers and sometimes the PC shows a correct installing, sometimes not.
I don't know what to do. Maybe format the Moto G...
1. Make sure you have good data cable
2. Usb port on your pc/computer is work
3. Install driver for your system.
And last, please make sure you choose the right " USB computer connection " method by going to Settings > Storage > tap on right top menu, select USB Computer Connection.
Install the Motorola drivers

First of all, thank you both. Sorry for the delay.
The USB Ports and the cable are ok. I've already installed drivers via Motorola Device Manager. After selecting USB Computer Connection, I check only the MTP option and nothing happens.
Maybe there is some cause of the problem:

Selecting the troubleshoot option, Windows starts to search drivers and, again, nothing happens. It can't fix the problem.
Here is the screen after that step:

It seems that the drivers aren't installed properly. I don't know why it's happening... I've already used this method to transfer musics and all kind of stuff. Maybe something went wrong after some android update... I don't know.
Do you have the adb drivers installed?

Well you are supposed to! No wonder why it isn't working with adb...

I've just installed it here, but still not working. I used this version.

In Device Manager, uninstall the drivers for the XT1033 and replug the phone in. If the problem persists, you can install the drivers manaully, don't use the Windows Update search. Is this the Moto 4G version? Maybe check that the drivers match your device. Last alternative is to root it manually through command window which imo is the best method.

Well, I've already done it.
How do the manual installation work? Is it through the ADB?
No. I don't know if it's a South America's version, but it has 16GB of memory and two sim card slots.
My main doubt is why it's happening, because I transferred files normally before.
How is this last method? What is the command?
Thank you so much! You are helping me a lot.
EDIT (April 4, 2015):
I've just found the solution afer a long time without trying anything. Here is it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54476230&postcount=12
