Froyo + Motorola's upcoming 2Ghz smartphone/device = Nerdgasm! - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Looks like I know what I'll be getting for Christmas!

To be honest I never liked Motorola design, they always seems not right. I think "awkward" is the word that describes their design
Not to start a flame war here, but what this post go to do in "Android Development and Hacking -> Android Software and Hacking General" ???

I will never forgive Motorola for the Cliq. They have already gotten enough money from me.

<ghasp> Oh Snap i wish it was a HTC though. They're less awkward

2ghz... in a smart phone?? How much is this gonna cost?!

2ghz in a phone & when you start to use it , the device goes down in 4 hrs

Yes i think processors are good enough for now They should work on battery life! my Desire is fast enough =)

See my sig...
Actually, I'm interested to see if these new phones are released in Google Experience vs. Motorola maintained version, vis Droid vs. Milestone again. I saw some images of the 'Droid X' today that had the Google Experience logo so looks like the lucky yanks will get the unlocked versions again, unlike the rest of us.

I dont get why people dont like motorolla? my brother has a droid and it's freakin sweet to me. Im still rollin with a G1.
Im excited for the 2ghz processor + froyo. thats ultimate speed and power! that thing can redirect a remote missile in real time! (joking ofcourse) BUT what if someone could create an app that will run PC or OSX programs through android for you! like the way wine bottle is for pc programs to mac. I mean the processor is right! 4.3 inch touch screen with qwerty keyboard is plenty comfort space for me to work with programs.

Nerdgasm!

I have the Milestone and have to say that I am pretty happy. I remember my old MPx200 and it was nice too, that was the last time I had a Moto. Build quality is perfect for me. At least no cheap-chinese plastic like in HTC's Desire et.al.

Can I have it?
First off you are in the wrong section
Second, I personally love my android phones. I don't exactly know why you are having speed issues... have you tried cursorsence? I installed it yesterday and I love it. There should be an overclock app in the market that could increase performance. Past that I'm not too sure of the problem.
If you're using MyHero you might as well sell your phone to someone smarter.
Im tired of thinking there are people like you in the world that think everything they want is the way it is. Spoiled little brats like yourself who know nothing of anything outside your little world where your handed everything in life or you cry and make everyone aware of it so you get the attention.
So.. your tired of not knowing what your doing when everyone else seems tobe fine? Well, were tired of people like you coming into our forums to whine about things that make no sense and to demand things completely outlandish.
Noone here is here for YOU. So please.. I beg you, find a new hobby, because this one seems a bit to high out of your reach. Maybe try coloring books?
Oh.. and you say the touch keyboards are so slow... You do understand that "predictive text" doesnt mean it knows what you are going to type before you do right? lol

I do wish my magic was as fast as an iphone, but I think it is a little slower is because of multitasking and the keyboard is slow at times

How exactly is the world tired of people who don't like overrated products? Maybe the world is tired of people like you who love mediocrity. It is literally impossible for you people to not have speed issues. Every single person here has complained about it so dont make it seem like you "figured it all out". Even brand new android phones are reviewed as slow. And having the solution to root your phone to make it at a tolerable speed isnt acceptable for buying a phone for $500.

What he means is no body force you to get this device.
If there is something else you like better go get it and leave this place.
I don't even want to begin guessing what "Even brand new android phones are reviewed as slow" means. Because if you're reffering to the Droid and Nexus One you could not be ANY FARTHER from the truth.
You have no facts, you say rooting is the only way to speed up a phone which is clearly wrong.
Why would people want to rip you a new one. You're a troll.
I agree in some way with you aotiko, fortunately my magic only cost's me 170€ without any contract otherwise for 500$ i had gone for an iphone.
typing some times is reallt slow, i'm on the snd word and the android is still writing the first (i'm now using the 2.1 and it is much better).
multi touch sucks, multi tasking is horrible because everything gets slower! (this was on my original 1.5, 2.1 i'm using since today so I still don't have an opinion)
keyboard is not as precise as iphone is (better on 2.0 too, the vibrate on is working much better).
battery life isn't worst but it is not good.
And what bugs me is that apple with a cpu with same velocity as magic done a f*cking fast phone with the 3gs! even with multi tasks on after jailbreak is is much faster, and as I've said CPU have the same speed as magic!
What hct and all other brands do is just increasing cpu speed, don't worry about sW optimisation and that is not good.
It looks like what intel and AMD done in the past in the pentium generation, more cpu clock, better. And it finally come to an end when problems with heat and stuff like that appear.
In the overall I still like my magic, but I won't if i had paid 500$!
just my 2 cents

I have an HTC Magic 32A and i'm sick of it. It's so slow I don't even like using it anymore. I try all the roms that people claim are "EXTREMELY FAST!!!" and they are STILL slow. The scrolling on text messages, in a browser, or even in menus is very jittery. Android users are always ripping on iphones how they can't multitask until you jailbreak them but people root android phones to make them usably fast which isn't even that helpful. I don't see how I can possibly be doing anything wrong. Does everyone here secretly not enjoy their phones and that's why they are always here to find a ROM that they can actually use? I tell everyone I love it but I really don't. The keyboard is always behind in typing, even in a store on a brand new phone. It really seems like Google released android in a very very very early beta stage just so they won't fall behind in market share.

Yes people are entitled to their opinion. But when someone comes here criticizing the work of these wonderful devs and making baseless arguments. They should leave.
Get an iPhone, and don't come back here. Simple as that.
I hope you are not talking about me!
I've not critized any one's work! we have were underfull devs no doubts about that!
but people can say what do work good and don't.
Most speed problems are not related to the devs but actually to the SO.
so please read carfully before start complaining.
Is iphone perfect? NO
is android perfect? NO
as i've said I love my android but for me iphone 3gs is faster with no doubts (NOT said better)
i will try my hero rom, as my girlfriend's hero with original rom, rotates faster, zoom faster than my 2.1 eclair rom.

i paid 200$ + 35$ activation fee and regret it everyday.
yes i have a stable and "fast" rom and i know how to use my root/sd card and all the settings, but id rather not have to go thru all the non sense.
if i could do it all over again i would have either waited for the android development to get to where we need it or just went with an iphone.
ALL this arguments just because JAVA.
BTW, iPhone processor's frequency is a bit higher.
HTC Magic is a kickass phone and I love it. It's smooth enough for me and I'm sure 2.1 will be faster.

Yea im sure too. Cant wait for the Nexus1 to be released in Denmark though

Will android ever have another phone released that lives up to the hype like the G1

It seems ever since the first generation of android devices a multitude of phones have been overhyped and just havent delivered. The G1 was a pinnacle of android masterpiece even with its clunky form and poor build quality it was what android phones should be. It was updated when it could be and if not it was easy to update for devs. It didn't have some terrible skin on it, it felt solid enough, and it worked in every way necessary. I mean the nexus one was the same, it was just a good phone. Ever since things have just been over-hyped and generally not worth it. The original droid was pretty terrible by comparison to the original android phone and yet they publicized it to be something amazing because of the sleek look... dont think most of us care too much about the look of our phone or we'd all be like those iphone wielding tools. This same mediocrity has come into play over and over again straight up to the galaxy S series... what are the odds that garbage is ever really going to get updated without XDA as long as samsung has any say over it? That lag also left a bad taste in most peoples mouths and the fact that the sequel to the amazing nexus one is a glorified galaxy S with a front facing camera and flash is just like taking a dump on the nexus line. There have been a few decent devices along the way mostly from HTC but in all actuality the only enjoyable andoid experience I had post G1 was on an HD2. This is not an android bashing thread just a real question and dedz to the G1... Lost but not forgotten.
no there wont , ur live will be empty and sad from now on
Nah, I'm happy with my WP7 devices. Would just like to have a decent android device on the side and when I heard they were making another nexus I got excited.... then I saw the S

Lol why bother to cheer up an obvious troll post?
there was a bit of hype when the desire came out.i think the HD2 is to be honest and thats not suppose to be an android but its deffinently a fun phone to play with, its got eveyone hyped up on here most deffinently, its turning into the must have tweakable phone. It terms of native android devices,we shall have to see what this year brings
Not a troll post by any means. I beg you to give me another phone that lived up as well out of the box. The HD2 did but I dont think it was quite as hyped til XDA took hold of it.

You have a valid point, but just like the first iPhone, the G1 did have it's flaws, but it was a success because it was the only device for Android. As you rightly said, the Nexus One was the next major step, I'd consider the G2 to be an incrimental step up, but I think the next wave of devices to truly impress will be wielding dual core CPUs, because as of now we're just getting the same internals in different casings. As of now all the other specs have been sufficiently maxed-out (1GHz CPUs, 8mp cameras w/ flash, 576-768mb RAM), so I think an influx of DC Snapdragons and Tegra 2s will shake things up a bit.

I dont really think the processors going to make that huge a difference. These phones still have not released anything new and amazing like they did then... They have yet to make another keyboard that could compare to the G1 and thats just sad considering the amount of praise it received. The G2 was nice but the Z hinge was bad and the fact that without overclocking the processor was smaller (though overclocked it was epic) was kinda lame. I dont think tegra 2s are going to make as big a difference as everyone thought if it's the same phones with a nicer processor. What ever happened to that phone with the projector built in? Thats a development...
No there won't. The first one will be the most hyped about regardless of the outcome. Why? It is the first of its kind! It applies to everything, first electric car, first 3D television, first motion-controlled games. So now manufacturers can only make the best phones that they can and still it won't have the same hype as it's granfather.

Aside from the G1, the Droid is probably one of the factors that made Android what it is today. The Hero won awards left and right. The Galaxy S has had its share of problems, but considering there are so many variations of it out there, I'd say it lived up to it's hype and more. The Evo lived up to it's hype as one of the biggest selling devices for Sprint! It passed the record sales in the first week than the Palm Pre, their second biggest sales record in a week! Sprint kind of overestimated when they released their sales numbers, but it was still so much that they ran out of stock quickly everywhere. The MT4g is still growing! Look at the Desire! The Desire like the Hero received awards like phone of the year! G1 didn't. G1 was a hit with developers, and the homebrew community. As is almost every HTC phone is too.
Should also mention, in the T3 tech awards the HTC Desire also beat the Iphone 4, which the Iphone 4 and all the Iphone series is easily way over hyped compared to what the G1 was.

So I kinda want a pre 3.

So I just finished up watching the HP event and I must say that new Pre 3 looks pretty sweet I mean a 1.4 ghz snapdragon sounds pretty fast. I am totally going to get my wife this phone I think she would love it and maybe HP will provide updates unlike Samsuck. But if the rumors are true and we get the froyo update in 2 weeks my Epic will still be king.

I would be lying if I said I didn't share a similar sentiment. I've used a Nexus One with a 3.7" screen, so 3.6" isn't too bad.
I loved my Pre. Its what I had prior to the Epic. Palm's software kicks Android's ass imo. Palm made **** hardware though, hopefully HP can keep WebOS alive.
Nope! No thank you.

O how can I agree with you their. But 3.6inches+onscreen keyboard+hardware Keyboard isn't such a bad thing.
My assumption is they added a onscreen keyboard.
The hardware for the Pre 3 is boring. I mean by the time the thing launches, both the iPhone and Android phones will probably be running dual core 1.2-1.4 Ghz processors which will DESTROY anything the Pre 3 can do, and with regards to graphics it wont even be remotely close. The OS looks solid, but are there any applications built for it really?

Whoa, wait... you want to switch from a poorly maintained version of an ubiquitous OS to a much less popular OS with a future that is questionable, at best?
It was one thing as Palm, but I can't imagine HP making the final experience any better than even 2.1 Android. Sure it's not the latest Android, but at least it is way more widespread...
All these years and HP still dint learn their lesson.
Why did Palm Pre floped?Because people dont want small screen phone with a physical keyboard!Thats why milions of people dint buy your stupid phones with best mobile OS.
Next time HP(after your existing lineup flops again) make something that looks like Galaxy S with 4inch Amoled or Super LCD(if Samsung dont sell you Amoled)and drop the useless keyboard(i hevent used my Epic's keyboard even once).
And for once listen to what people want.Stupid fagits cant get one thing right after all these years-ya deserve to loose money, lol.
My wife had the Pre a year ago... I told her about this new Pre and she say: Thanks, but I'll pass... Not a good experience for her...
Without resorting to either anti-gay invective or anti-who-or-whatever I'll just say that I found it really sad how Palm fumbled the ball with Pre. They had the worst ad campaign I've ever seen (amateurs on youtube made great commercials by just *showing what the damn phone could do*) and as much as they hook me up, they should *never* have given Sprint early exclusivity to it. This new version 3 is probably decent for what it is and WebOS is still a damn fine system, but it's doomed like Windows Phone 7, except more so, because they don't have MS's cash and tenacity to try and buy their way into the market.
Im with the OP. Im going back to webOS when the Pre3 is available. The Epic was my first attempt at Android and its left a bad taste in my mouth. If webOS vanishes in 2 years then so be it. At least I'll have a phone i really enjoy for a while.

I am going to go out on a limb and predict that you wont be going back to webOS when the Pre3 is released. By that time, we will have such beast android phones being released along with the iphone 5 and probably some pretty sick Windows phone 7 phones that it just won't make sense unless they basically give the Pre3 away.

Damn how hard can it be?Large screen+software keyboard thats it and they would have sold more phones than all Galxy S variants. They need to leave the phone game alone because they are just too stupid to run it.

Understandable prediction. I can certainly see how you could come to that conclusion. Honestly i like Android but i've come to realize that its too dependent on manufacturers to keep phones up to date. I feel like im back on winmo. I appreciate all the work the rom.makers put in but flashing really isn't my cup of tea.
I enjoyed using and developing for webos. The only reason i bought the epic was because my pre died and sprint wanted 100 bucks for a refurb.. figured id give the epic a try.

I had 2 pres and truth be told I do miss WebOS. It has a certain overall finish that android doesn't have. That and I miss cards(multi tasking). Android 5.0 Jellybean out this spring to developers!?!?!? WTF?!??!(video fixed)

MY FAULT I POSTED THE WRONG VIDEO! I mean, seriously? Is there any need at this point in time? Will there be any hardware that can even run it by this fall or summer aside from maaaaaybe the Galaxy S 3? I dont understand it. Sometimes I feel like google should just keep all their OS development in the closet for at least 1.5-2 years at a time. 1 year minimum. Then do a controlled release with a absolutely bug-free platform. Im already seeing and feeling the gadget fatigue setting in. For christs sake a friend of mine just picked up a set of iPhone 3g's for free for his whole family like a year ago! And they are still liking them! I just dont think it makes sense to keep flooding the market so hard with devices and devices. Meanwhile ICS isn't even finished perfectly yet so I don't understand why they shouldn't continue developing ICS before even starting Jelly bean...

I think its a great idea. I not going to complain about more and new features. I also LOVE the feeling on an major android upgrade. And as for flooding the market with phones, Its fantastic because it makes companies compete to give you the best product. In the end we WIN!!!!!!!!!!.

This statement makes no sense whatsoever. Continue developing ICS before starting jellybean? Do you even understand what a software version is? ICS is Android. Jellybean will still be android. As Android gets updated, and enough changes get made to the software, that is when they decide to change a name. So in all actuality, jellybean is ICS that has been developed further.......
Umm.. Haven't even got ICS yet and rumors about 5.0 ? Duh! this makes me jealous and frustrate!
Google seems to be restless. Remember when Honeycomb was released, they announced ICS at the same time! We are developing with 3.1 in mind and can't even think of exclusively using newer features to Android 4.x because of the major lag in new devices.
This isn't good for developers, it just gives us more headaches to control the fragments.

Thread moved to proper section
This makes absolutely zero sense for them to do this.

I agree that it would be too soon to relewse a new is just recently after ice came out and with only 1% of phones using ice right now. They should prioritize updating tlthe rest of the phones to ice and ironing out and building that os to recognition instead of rolling out something new. It would totally make ice purposeless in my eyes and a waste. I know technology is ever expanding but seems its expanding too quick to anyone to enjoy it long enough to stick to one thing.
From what I heard its for tablets right ? So basically this is like honeycomb something meant for the tablet community . If its for mobiles then this is a very bad thing ,I mean seriously how many devices come with ICS now ? 5 ?

Its going to be for phones and tabs its going to be an overlay capable device for PC s which in my opinion pretty cool. Especially if u like Linux already. And were r not talking about a release for at least 6 months. Everything is just hear say for now
Bline's Iced Out Supersonic... If anyone helps you out click THANKS!!!
If 5.0 comes out before 2013, Google is stupider than I thought.

My whole thing about it is this, how do you explain to people who are still on Froyo, this is something new and great and you should use it! Their devices are supported by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer (like 3 main ones) dont keep up with the upgrade schedule with all their onslaught of devices, then whats the point?
I feel as though Android is being developed so rapidly that it seems as though they dont even care about what devices are out, or which ones "matter" to the market more. Its all about development for them. (which isnt necessarily bad) And for manufacturers, its all about flood flood flood the market with every new spec technology they can in order to not accidentally fall behind Apple. This is the honest to goodness truth i fear!!
Companies are trying their absolute best to make certain that they dont get caught by surprise with some Apple super device---so they keep putting out a new device the instant they make a little headway in specs. They are too afraid of letting the market settle for longer than 3 months!! For fear that Apple will announce a launch all of the sudden and bring out a 1080p hex core smartphone with 20 gb of ram and 128 gb of hard disk. lol! Its really starting to piss me off. Its starting to become a childish game of "oh we did/have that already, its not new."
These companies really have to let the market catch its breath. I mean here in the U.S. people are still trying to fight their way out of this recession, and yet Samsung and Android expect me to buy a Galaxy Nexus since its the ONLY device with ICS! Indirectly though it may be, its still frusterating as hell. I say 1 year, minimum. Dont tell people about it in the news, dont leak anything, and dont throw it on devices unless it really makes a big difference-or after one year! I mean, google will always have their ad revenue to sit on. So I really dont understand the rush to release. ---rant complete---

The first time yo messed around with android, what did you think?

I remember my first time seeing a real android phone. I saw plenty of commercials about the original mytouch. But the day my friend walked into class and showed it to my teacher, it just blew my mind. He showed off how it had multiple screens, and he even had a bleach background (and let me tell you, it was beautiful). I didn't really look in depth about android. But i did learn a few months or a year later that the G2 was coming out. My dad wanted a faster blackberry (for his job) so we went to a T-mobile store and he asked for a fast phone. The person at the counter showed him the G2 and i immediately recognized it. In fact the whole store was filled with android phones that i played around with very much. It was not until my mother got my a Pandigital novel that i learned about rooting and rom (still didn't understand it as in depth as i do now).
TL;DR: When i first saw android, i didn't know what it was but i did think it was beautiful.
Now i wanna hear about your first experiences with android. Or what you thought when you first laid eyes on one.
Before i get an android i had a symbian phone so when i bought my htc wildfire i couldn't stop install rom and all stupid stuff on it, FREEDOM !!

switched from a crappy samsung phone without even a proper name (just an alphanumeric one) to the HTC DHD/Inspire 4g it was my forst android phone and it was and still is amazing because the one thing about android is, is that it never ceases to amaze me. Be it the official stuff or the root community, all of it is amazing.

lol my sis has the cliq right now. And boy that was the slowest thing i've ever touched. It was so slow that i rooted it and set the cpu higher to make it faster. It only made it 35% faster lol
It was stock on a D2, and I remember it lagging so badly. I tried to mod and customize but the deeper I got into it the slower it got. Then I finally made the choice to stick with android and buy a top tier phone, which is my GNex I have now and couldn't be happier. Lol
Android has come a long way, and the older versions really give it a bad name on those slow / sluggished spec'd phones.
My first Android was the Sanyo Zio by Kyocera. Which happened to be Kyoceras first Android as well. I think it was fate because it took me about a month before I decided to get it rooted. At the time there was virtually no development for it, source code was still nearly a year from release. So it gave me a chance to really get in to Androids and all the customization and some amateurish development. So really it assured my love of the OS.
Lower end phones arent always the worst. Im stuck on one now since some ass stole my Sensation. Its not too terrible, but if I was a total noob it would be. Thanks to my Zio Im not. Link2sd is a godsend for low capacity devices.
I can honestly say I will never own another kind of phone. If its not Android Im not interested.
I was intrigued as soon as I saw the "iDon't" commercials. I did a lot of reading and followed a few now-defunct forums. When the D2 came out I bought it sight unseen. Once I looked into rooting and learned how amazing the experience could become I was hooked.

One of my family members has a phone on Gingerbread. Running that was cool, especially since she came from a BlackBerry.
Then I got a Galaxy Nexus and was floored at how much better the experience was. Matias Duarte, that UI and UX pioneer, really and completely changed Android to the point that stock is awesome. Android went through puberty and has finally matured.
The very first time I messed around with android, it was in the back seat of my 1966 Chevy Nova at "the point".
The second time, I got busted by her old man with my finger inside her USB port...

My N1 was my first and still is. But I had been watching android from the first versions that looked like blackberry until I bought it.
But I live in Iceland and I was the first of anyone that I knew to buy an android phone.

I found jailbreaking easier that being said I also put my iPhone into a blender since i hated it. Rooting/flash I find more combersome for some reason though it's really not that difficult.

Haha I know right? I was so excited to get rid of it. Pulling down the statusbar on cm7 was laggy 0.o
I tweaked the hell out of it to no avail. The reason why I never had a bad impression of Android was because my friends were all showing off their superphones and when I finally upgraded, I knew how much better the experience would be

Just depends on the phone. Motos on certain versions of Froyo and GB have a one-click root that's even easier than jail breaking. Even the work around now isn't too bad. I will say when I see what's required for some I just think, "Glad I don't have to do all that."
My first experience was with the T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream, which I got release week. It was and still is in my top 10 list of best phones. The way the keyboard slid out and clacked was amazing! I love that phone!
My first android phone was a Samsung Galaxy S2, i picked that over the Skyrocket and i never really regretted it. The first thing i did with the phone when i came home from the store was root it. After that i found out about kernels, roms, and hundreds of mods. And ever since then I've been flashing roms way too much. Some times i change the rom 3-4 times in a day, and other times i try my best to stick with one rom, but i keep wanting more from the device so i go looking for more roms and mods.
First android was an HTC Desire Z. Still have it and love it. Now rocking an SIII and soon a GNex again.
