so is anyone else annoyed out there with t-mobile and the android phone situation? verizon is getting hooked up with really nice phones, and more and more are coming out, but nada for t-mobile other then the slide and a "project emerald" which we know nothing about. i'm seriously thinking about jumping ship. anybody else out there feel the same?
I had to after T-Mobile briqed my cliq with thier stupid update, and refused to replace my phone (even with insurance). Then my daughters G1 pooped out on her. Luckily I was living in an area where T-Mobile dosent have coverage so I was able to weasel out of any ETF's. So now I got the Moment (about to get an EVO), she has a Blackberry, we both have 3g data and my bill is $35 less a month than when I was in T-Mo. Awsome!
Get the Nexus One unlocked & you will be a happy Tmobile camper
I don't know if it'll scratch your itch or not, but the Galaxy S is coming soon.

When I think of ATT I think of the Backflop and the iSuckasaPhone

Hello all,
I was just informed that my company will be transitioning to a corporate cellular plan and will be moving to Sprint. We will be receiving a Blackberry and I cringed as I have fallen in dire love with my ATT Tilt, yes, wife is a little jealous. We have a microsoft exchange server, so I can still get away with a WM6 phone, however I have a few questions and need to decide what to do by this FRIDAY! UGH!
If I can get this unlocked, can I use this on Sprint? Do they also use the sim card?
Thanks in advance.
Uh, no. Unlocking the phone would only allow you to use it with another GSM provider. Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, so there is no way to use your Tilt on their networks.
Thank you very much for the information... today is a sad day for me. That is exactly what I was afraid of. It just isn't worth keeping the min plan with full data to maintain my phone. I have only had it since November so looks like I will have to get rid of it
Anyone have any Sprint suggestions?
First off LOL to your question. And second, take a look at the Sprint Mogul, as far as I can tell it's pretty much the same phone but not as cool. There is not Tilting of the screen and you'll have to do some fancy foot work to get the GPS running on it, the camera isn't 3mp but everything else is pretty much the same. If you look in the forum under Titan then you can do some research on it.
You can tell I'm devastated... I really am . My boss was scared to tell me cause I just go on and on about my new mistress, I mean phone. I just recently made the Treo Palm OS leap to HTC WM6 and haven't looked back. I was hoping that Sprint was GSM, but since CDMA, there is no popping a SIM out and putting another in, which means I will have to carry two phones or forward my personal to business, which then means no point in keeping this phone. I'll have to figure out if CDMA can use two phone numbers at once on one phone.
if you can then I would be really suprised. 2 phones make you look cooler, well if the other wasn't a black berry
Heres a suggestion being that I work for AT&T ANS Tech Support I get these calls alot. My suggestion is keep the Tilt. Ask your IT if they could give OUTLOOK WEB ACCESS that way you can set it up in the device client of the Tilt. The other option is ask them if they wouldn't mind forwarding your work email to another email address. Another option is that if you company will be using blackberries on the server as well. Call AT&T and get the connect feature for your phone that way you could still keep your Tilt. Palm OS sucks. Looks boring can't customize anything etc. Not to mention the bug in the phone that makes it Hotsync for no reason when it isn't even connected to the computer. Let me know what you think
Thanks for the suggestion, I currently have all those happening because I have the settings. The biggest change is I no loner get to expense my phone, they will be choosing the plan, they will be paying... hence why I don't want to have my $150+ cellphone bill become my personal cellphone. They will no longer be reimburisng like before. So my hope was I could reuse this phone, but that thought has been killed off.
Feel bad for me... feel very bad for me. :lmao:
The real question is why are they switching to sprint. From what I've seen they've started to circle the drain. They had a major loss to subscribers and they had to shut down a bunch of stores. at&t and Verizon are the 2 real competitors. I wouldn't be shocked if Sprint sold to Verizon soon and t-mobile USA sold to at&t.
So in the end they're switching to Sprint... Go with the Touch or the Mogul (which is basically the 8525).
umm idk if its cdma or not but the samsung f700 is AMAZING

I wish T-Mo sold to AT&T. I need 3G! Put in my friends sim from his iPhone and played with HSDPA and he wanted to trade phones immediately. I thought EVDO was fast when I had Sprint.
I thought Tmobile didn't have 3G just Edge
Unfortunately, it was not my decision... and I would agree, I am not thrilled, but someone in our corp. office was sold a bill of sale on this idea. What I can't believe is that they are going to pay the licensing on each BB, when the Microsoft push is free! Oh well.... I still continue to cry over spilled milk.
Rquinn, thanks for the 411 on their network speed, I got some clarification and we will have their data plan, so that is good to know.
Chumley, Rquinn was saying he wishes they would sell to ATT so he could get 3G
I have always loved tmobile and been with them for quite some time but I think I am done with tmobile. I wrote a rant over at blog that i write for. I am not advertising the blog I just want more people to get exposure to my rant and I want maybe some of you that know more about tmobile to help me understand the process or what I am thinking is wrong.

When you got the last TP2 with the connection issues did you flash some different radio's to see if that was an issue? Or upgrade to 6.5? I know my connection drastically changed with my TP2 from radio to radio. I see your point and your pissed but you must also see tmo's point. They have sent you 4 TP2's that all failed your inspection even though they passed the refurb inspection. Ironically Blackberry 9700's are selling for $50-$100 more then a TP2 so they are actually upgrading you. You could easily sell your NIB 9700 for $350 and just buy a NIB TP2 for $300 on ebay. So going that route you end up with a brand new TP2 and $50. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I'll gladly trade you a TILT2 in mint condition or a TP2 in moderate condition + some cash for your 9700.
No i did not flash any radios or anything. it was never suggested to me by the agent i even told him it is on 6.1 and tmobile released a 6.5 should i upgrade to see if something happens and he said no dont do that so i did not. I know radios make a huge difference i was also pissed about the fact that i recieved an older model tp2 so i really did not bother messing with the radios and i wanted tmobile to fix the issue. if their agent said flash this i gladly would have and if the problem was fixed then fine but i was not going suggest a fix for them for a crappy pos refurbished device that i got.
also i know i can sell a black berry 9700 for more and then buy a new tp2 or hd2 which is the route i am going to take first thing tomorrow morning but more than anything it is policy that did not make sense and i just wanted tmobile to fix the problem so i dont have to go through this problem but it seems like I will have to. all i wanted is for them to just give me a new tp2 as part of my warranty replacement program but they wouldn't do that. oh well i will still get what i want but i am done with tmobile when my contract expires.
I hear yah, but look at it from their point of view. You've been through 4 TP2's sending each one back. At that point they must be wondering if their is a flaw in your local tmo network causing it to suck up where you live. After 4 phones they then give you a more expensive phone because their corporate handbook says they have to change phones on you. Give it a bit and think about it a bit and tmo didn't do anything so bad. Its not like their telling your TS, or sending you more refurbs. I'd just sell that bad boy and get you an HD2 like a real man. I know many carriers just getting one replacement is a total hassle and 2 is near impossible, tmo's givin you like 5 phones so far trying to make you happy. I think that deserves a lil thought. As I said I know your pissed right now, but think it over, get your 9700, sell it for $350, go buy an HD2 new in the box on craigslist. And then use your HD2 for a week and think about using your old TP2 or your new HD2 and you'll be singing Tmo songs again in the hallways.
Yup working on getting that Blackberry sold in my local area soon and then getting a HD2 locally and also it was not the same problem every time it was a different issue and being that I know my phones really well I can spot even the smallest problems and it tends to bug me and the fact that i know it is a refurbished makes me look for those problems even more. It is human nature. Anyways we will see, I have a few more months before I am down to the $50 ETF. So the day I hit that mark I am out of contract and will start looking for new phones unless tmobile changes something on me again.
Wow, thats crazy.. I have a similar problem with a Samsung phone when I first got to T-mobile in '07. I would call and complain because the phone kept giving me the same problems over and over. Even my mum was getting them (had the same phone) and it got to the point where they upgraded her line to a Blackberry Peral and I had to be stuck with a pos Samsung T-629. It got to the point where I basically went on craigslist and bought a sidekick. Since I've been with them their service has gotten better and the tech reps have been more helpful. But especially to the fact that some people know more when it comes to their phones than the tech reps themself why bother complaining when you could always try and fix it yourself? Thats how I looked at it, but I know how exactly how you feel.
After so much industry first again....magic...( hahaha)...impossible is possible( LMAO), is anyone else disappointed as much as me?....Verizon is getting better andorid os 6 months before sprint does..I am sure ATT will be the second one...Planning to get I-Phone...atleast apple promises and proves when it says its magic or industry first etc etc...
I'm just glad my phone bill isnt out of control. You cant beat sprints unlimited plan.

That is for sure. My parents have ATT and it's ridiculous. They will catch up, honestly I would rather another phone company/set of users have to work through all the bugs on a new phone and then Sprint get.
for some reason I had it in my head that it would be the new LG dual-core phone with 3D. ...so disappointed. Looks like I'll keep using my hero until evo2
Droid Bionic is where its at.
So I currently have a Motorola Droid X2... I use cyanogenmod 7.2rc1 beta2 as a custom ROM. Besides that for stable ROMs it's really only eclipse 2.2, liberty, molten or stock 2.3.5 rooted. cm9/miui4 are both in alpha stages of development and have no working camera/data usage yet and mms is shotty as well as other glitches & bugs. having the locked bootloader and all. Plus we don't get official ICS :banghead::thumbdown:
I had a few questions... First off, my 2 year contract with Verizon Wireless USA is over in December however I am eligible for an upgrade in August. I think I remember reading somewhere after all these VZW/MOTO shenanigans you can get a free 3g upgrade, if eligible, but need to renew contract for a 4g device. I'm obviously very confused by these changes and need clarification.. Basically what I'm asking is, would I be able to cop a new phone in August without having to re-up my contract? Use the upgrade for the remaining months and then sell it along with my X2? Not sure how that works and honestly I don't want to call Verizon about it until I'm due for my upgrade.
Moving on to my next problem. I am going to need a new carrier/phone. I figure since sprint still has unlimited data and their service in my area isn't that bad compared to Verizon, I'll probably sign with them. As far as actual devices are concerned, I will only buy a phone with an unlocked bootloader. Since Motorola failed to live up to their promise of unlocking their bootloaders by the end of 2011, and their overall customer support, I am not interested in purchasing any Moto phones.
Which brings me back to Sprint, lol. I know several people who have been on Sprint for a long time and tell me they're okay as long as you don't break your phone. I've heard countless horror stories of friends/family having to jump through countless hoops just to get their defective phone replaced. I've already left AT&T and will never go back to them so my options are pretty limited. I can deal with less than perfect customer support from time to time as long as I have reliable service and a reliable phone I can hack.
I've been looking at the Dinc2, since my friend has one. I know that's unlocked already. I've heard a lot of fuss over its pentile screen, but that honestly doesn't bother me much. So that can be taken into consideration as well.
I appreciate any opinions you can personally offer as to an awesome, unlocked phone, decent carriers as well as new phone releases you are looking forward to. I'd love to hear what unlocked devices you guys have as well as your favorite custom ROMs for them.
Thanks!
Cyanogenmod all day
Well, if you upgrade your phone, you're more than likely going to have to re-up your contract for an additional 2 years. As of right now, for Verizon, I would probably look at the HTC Rezound, or Incredible 4G. If you go to Sprint, I would look at the Evo 4G LTE (HTC One for Sprint), or the Evo Design 4G, but by December, you'll also have the Galaxy S3 to consider. I'm biased towards HTC phones personally, but those are the options I would look at.
I forgot to mention I'm on a family plan with unlimited data...

I can't really suggest a phone but I read that you mentioned people having problems with Sprint with getting phones replaced after they get broke.
My sister is good at messing phones up and with the $8 a month insurance you basically can hardball any phone at a wall and they will replace it for $100. I think the one thing is you just never say that you did anything wrong and most sprint stores don't care. They have gotten much better. Whatever you do don't break your phone without insurance because they wont touch the phone in fear you might swear they broke it. Get the phone insured from day one if you are accident prone. That is about all the advice I can give. They have good phones and have good service (not verizon service but still good.)
Yeah, I treat these phones like royalty. Basically it's just a computer in the palm of my hand... Accidents do happen though and I always protect all devices with insurance.
I was in Sprint once with a friend of mine. Keep in mind he wasn't a smartphone owner, but this wasn't too long ago. He had a flip phone and he wanted it replaced. It was his 4th device experiencing the same hardware problems. When we got in there Sprint did pretty much everything in their power to make sure he did not leave with a brand new replacement. They went as far as to literally take the phone apart - right in front of us - and replace internal hardware. They'd put it back together and he'd show them it still wasn't working and they would try replacing something else.
Two and a half hours later of playing with the display evo and listening to "No I don't want you to fix it I want a new phone" and "Here, maybe this will fix it, let's give it a try..." we were finally out of there. They did not give a replacement that day. Just "fixed" it. Until we got back to his house. The very next day I was there when he called customer support. They gave him the business over the phone and were 0 help. We went back to the sprint store and finally got his replacement. I think the only reason they even actually helped him with a new device is because he was mad enough to break every display case and cell phone in the place - and they knew it. It wasn't like a "here let me help you get this resolved so you can enjoy your phone and service!!" Kinda deal it was more like "get him a new phone from the back so he doesn't make a scene and gets the hell out of my store" thing .... As we were leaving, the female rep not only told us we were lucky we even got a replacement in the first place- she did it in a snobby, attitude riddled tone of voice.
For reference this is when I was thinking of terminating vzw early and jumping to sprint. My friend told me sprint is full of people who either don't give two damns or are just plain stupid. He took me along to give me an idea of what I was in for. Needless to say I didn't switch.....

I'm thinking of picking up a Nexus 5 from T-Mobile. Does anyone know if T-Mobile branded the phone with their logo and if there are T-Mobile based apps on the phone that cannot be erased? Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention if T-Mobile did these two questions to the Nexus 4.
Doubtful about the logo and apps, though if I had to guess, it'll probably cost $449.99-$499.99 for the 16GB model.
I have a Nexus 4 that I got directly from T-Mobile, there is absolutely no difference from the ones you get from the play store. The packaging is the same, no branding on the device, and no additional apps added. The Nexus 5 should be the same. T-Mobile gets it...
Should be no difference...
and the price should be $599

They are definitely the best US carrier when it comes to that sort of junk to begin with, but I am still surprised that there is apparently no branding/bloatware at all. That is pretty cool.

Nexus 5 is not a carrier locked device. There is only the unlocked North America version or the unlocked International version, regardless of who sells it.

I actually wouldn't trust the back of some dude's fan (sarcasm back). But yeah, they're all the same device. Only exception is international which would be outside the U.S. where its D821 and not D820
T-Mobile probably sell the nexus 5 with $50-$100 down and $20-25/mo for 24 months. That's their new no-contract plan.
I would gladly pay more to buy direct from tmo if they would leave plain vanilla and just give some way to install wifi calling. That is the only carrier app that anyone ever gave a crap about.

Not sure, you would need to ask one of the veteran TMO users.
I sure hope most people know that using that T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling actually uses your minutes if you're not on an unlimited calling plan... I've seen tons of people mention it, and I know it can be useful in areas with limited 2G/3G/4G/LTE coverage as a backup but, in spite of it making things easier, it still chunks your calling minutes off, as screwy as that seems.
When I realized that after signing up for the $30/monthly plan with T-Mobile that I've had for nearly 2 years now, I promptly dropped that crappy aspect of things and went to Google Voice + Talkatone for VoIP calls, never had a problem since but in 2014 Google apparently is going to "pull the plug" on third party apps that make use of Google Voice in that respect.
Kinda sucks but, maybe Google's got something planned themselves for VoIP, who the hell knows. It would put a hurtin' on Skype for damned sure...

yup, I'm aware of that and I do have unlimited minutes. Probably good that you mentioned it in case someone doesn't understand how it works.
