Best email app for pop3? - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I'm so sick of the factory provided email app.
it always pops up new email notifications for emails i've already read, deleted, marked as read, etc. i've read somewhere that it did it for some emails that should be fully loaded, but thats not the case. it does it to emails that have text only, or even if it has attatchments, it does it to random (old) emails! very annoying!! is there an alternative app out there for pop3 email?

Free - K-9 Mail
Money - Touchdown
I've used both, all though not for pop3, and prefer interface of K9, but features from Touchdown (some things that are required to work with my exchange server).

Email In Android

I setup my Yahoo! Mail and it never let me pick to use POP or IMAP. I think it's using POP because I don't see and of the folders that I made in my webmail (or other IMAP clients).
Is there a way I can use IMAP and move messages to other folders on the server?
Also when I deleted a bunch of messages, when I went to check my webmail they were still there and marked as unread. Is there something I have to do to make it delete them from the server (In Windows Mobile you have to pick "Send/Receive..."
I started using K-9 Mail http://code.google.com/p/k9mail/downloads/list
I only use Gmail and it does imap perfectly. About 5-10 second email receive time. Lets you configure each account if you want delete to delete or mark as read on your email server.
A great feature for reading lots of email from multiple accounts is all email in one list and flip through them. Speeds up email reading compared to other programs I have tried.
Is K-9 Mail not on the Market? I searched and only found plugins. I will try that link you posted
Market has 2802 the link will get you the latest ver

Huh? I don't follow. 2802?
Anyways, I installed it. How can I select multiple messages without selecting them all?

Emails

I have over 400 emails and my phone only showing me 100 of them. Amyone else having this issue?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I guess no one is having this problem?
I am suprised no one else having this problem, I guess I have a defective one.
I noticed this just a day ago. The POP emails seem to age off after 1 week or if they get deleted on the server.
My assumption is the email client on the phone is doing this; it should not, but there is no other reason for it. The only relevant email setting i can find is if the client should delete on the server.
I was starting to like Touchwiz, but Samsung really messed up the email client. I hope custom Roms give us a better email client.
I also have a problem with POP3 fetch. I have 1 Exchange, Gmail, and 3 POP3 accounts. Exchange works as it should, but the POP3 accounts seem to stop fetching overnight. Even manually refreshing doesn't work. I may have rebooted before or just waited... not sure.

I had the inverse problem. IMAP stoped retreiving my mail and POP3 worked
(I had 2 IMAP + 3 GMAIL)
Now 1 IMAP, 1 POP and 3 GMAIL
Email Client Is Too Slow
Why is the email client so dang slow?
It's slow in general but mostly when I go to delete emails.
If I select several emails for deletion they pop off one at a time every 5 seconds or so.
No other phone I've owned has ever taken this long to do something as simple as delete an email.
Is this a problem with just the Captivate and TouchWiz, or does it happen with other Android phones as well?
Will this be fixed in FroYo?
Also for some reason some e-mail clients like Eudora, has an issue with the stock e-mail app from Samsung, it does not have proper mail headers and Eudora will show up as gibberish. I have switched over to MailDroid and it seems to be a lot more responsive, less of a memory hog and actually has no problems with Eudora and other mail clients that require mime in the headers. As well as I got a -2 e-mail on an iMap account under the Samsung Stock E-mail app...
Cheers,
Charlie

[Q] Push email app

I'm looking for an email app that can handle multiple email accounts and push notifications. I want to have access to my yahoo mail, gmail, personal website mail, and work exchange mail.
SEVEN worked great, but isn't perfect. They have since pulled their app from the beta for android and don't seem to be supporting it anymore (at least not to the beta community anymore).
K9 - I read the yahoo push notifications work for some but not others. I'm trying it now but so far 1 test yahoo email didn't get pushed. I haven't had time to play with this anymore yet and only tried that 1 test.
Maildroid killed my batter in no time, so trying to avoid that - unless they've fixed that issue.
It also needs to support Android 2.3 since I'm using the Evo 3d.
One feature i'd like, but don't have to have is the ability to turn on/off the exchange email at will or set quiet hours specifically to that account and not all mail.
Thanks

Have you used latest version of seven 7.54? it have widget support too, i hav used it 2 month ago n was working smooth, if you dont have get it from here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24917729/SEVEN 7.54.apk
Atleast for yahoo push mail thr is only two option, one is seven and other is yahoo mail. but yahoo mail is only for yahoo services. As per my knowledge rest using schedule pull rather thn real push mail. B'coz yahoo not having Idle IMAP facility.
thanks for clearing that up. Yes i do have the latest from Seven. i'll just stick with that. The only problem I have with it is not being able to stop work mail receiving separate from the others. I can use something else for that mail though.
Well I don't have push support for IMAP accounts but I do have push support for Exchange accounts. POP3 does not support push in any way, shape, or fashion in case you didn't know. The link to my app is in my signature. I have a free trial up on my website. If you did like it you could feel good about buying it because your money would be going to me who is a long time android contributor and XDA veteran

Email apps

Hi i was wonder is there a email apps like HTC VIVID? gmail, yahoo, hotmail all in one email apps.
K-9 mail works great
https://market.android.com/details?...result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5mc2NrLms5Il0.
K-9 is a great "free" email app for Android but if you don't mind dropping some money for an email app you can check out Kaiten Email which is a more supported and refined version of K-9. Also, I was lucky enough to get Enhanced Email when it was Amazon's FAOTD and I think it adds more features but also a higher price tag, but I have had no issues with any of them.

I have enhanced email but I like the stock better, I only wished it had the check marks so I can delete multiple email from the list w/out having to open like the enhanced email.
One thing to note...
The enhanced email developer is really interested on people's opinion.
That is a good thing!
I expect a couple of updates to this program soon.
I tried stock & K9 and found Enhanced Email works best for me after fixing a few default settings.
I've got an EE widget pasted on my lockscreen so I can see how many new emails I have without having to log into the phone.
EE forum:

K9 was probably more powerful & had more options. But was just too flakey.
And missing a couple critical (to me) features that made no sense why it didn't have them.
edit: Enhanced Email is flakey with Hotmail & Live (at least with settings I'm using). It's flawless with Gmail and Yahoo though. Still using & loving it.
Also, there is no option to mark email as "SPAM".
I use K-9, but was wondering what were the critical features you wanted?

Mail App

Anyone else found the stock mail appto be a complete pos?
I understand that the Surface RT is more a "Home" device than a "Work" one but still, a better mail app is needed, hell I've even settle on Outlook Express than this lol...
what specifically are you not liking about it? "pos" isn't very useful feedback.
It seems to handle multiple accounts OK - my suggestions:
unified inbox
message preview on/off
image download on/off
Unified Inbox is the number one feature I would like to have in the Mail app.

It is junk, especially coming from the people who created Outlook. POP3 support is the biggest issue. I thought by now we would see an update, but no go

I thought by now pop3 would be dead. Horrible protocol for mail
Hello,
i miss a "reading confirmation" for sendet items.
also i think the app has a big failure in syncing imap-directorys.
so on my "surface rt" or my desktop "windows 8 pro 64bit" i have the following issues.
- not all directorys are synct.
(i think there must be a restriction to the count of directorys, becouse new emails in the exist directorys are synct correct.
i have only a overall of 20 root-directory and a 222 down-under-directorys
i missing a count of 14 root-directorys with 71 down-under-directorys
can anyone confirm a restriction of syncing a count of directorys???
For me, the killer lack is the complete inability to send plain text. Too many automated systems, and a few of the people I'm in touch with, can't handle HTML email. Given the simplicity of supporting plain text vs. supporting HTML, it's a very annoying thing to not have.
I also really wish there was some support for user filters. Full integration with Exchange (server-side filters) would be great, but I'd settle for (a lot) less to have anything at all.
The inability to view the compose message window along with any other window at the same time is very annoying. I get that on a low-res display this might be difficult, but while the app is very good at scaling its display as resolution decreases on something like my Surface (right down to being usable while side-snapped!) it's terrible at using the resolution on my desktop.
I'm not experiencing any issues with the mail app. I use Hotmail, so I can set up filters at the Outlook.com website. I have a filter set up to route job-related mails into a specific folder and that's working well. Outlook.com also handles my sender blocking. I have a few folders and they all sync fine. I can view the "compose email" dialogue side-snapped on my surface without difficulty. It's not the most full featured app ever but there's nothing I need to do that I can't. *shrug*.
I think if there's one feature I'd like, it would be to be able to highlight a spam message and select "block future emails from this domain/address" to save me needing to do that on outlook.com
The only thing I now use the Outlook desktop app for is a weekly download & offline backup of my emails.

I agree but unfortunately some big providers still only offer it, like Roadrunner Mail(time warner). I understand the argument to set up a gmail account but MS should be all about flexibility and shouldn't dictate what email service we can use with their devices.
I personally use email pretty much all day every day, for a Microsoft app, it lacks so many features. As a simple start, flagging emails, every email client and their dog can flag emails and show flagged emails, the mail app however can't, its not exactly rocket Science!
Secondly, as mentioned before hand the lack of plain text emails.
The fact it isn't integrated in any way with the calendar, I mean I don't expect a complete replacement for outlook, but even windows phone applications can do these simple things, so why doesn't windows 8 get possibly the worst excuse for a mail app I've ever used?
I only managed to get the built-in Mail app to sync with my Gmail once, after that it throws generic connection errors. It was slow and obnoxious to use, I gave up and just use the web mail interface.

I put my gmail accounts on the surface mail app and all I want is the "send mail as" option.
When you open a new email you will find your email adress in the left bottom corner. and there is also the possibility to use an another email adress.
@feygor: I agree in general, but there is actually some calendar integration. You can receive calendar invites via the mail app, and respond to them (yes/tentative/no). It's not perfect but it's no worse than on my phone, so far as I can tell, in terms of *that* feature.
Now, the lack of support for flagging (or, especially, the Importance flags)... that's annoying. You can't even filter the mail list to show only the unread messages! That's an option out of the box on WP7...

I agree its not a full featured mail client - it's the first release of the windows 8 store (gag) mail client. There's nothing saying it can't grow into something better, or even that other clients that are better won't show up in the store. As an "adjunct" email client its good enough for now - given I have my phone with me always and it "owns" my calendar, I can manage it there. The calendar sync does work fine with my various calendars, at least
Give it a rev or two. You may not remember the first versions of email and calendar in iOS, but I do. Yeah, they sucked pretty bad too.
Yeah, it's poor enough that I have to use webmail for all my non-Exchange accounts. Kind of sad that my phone is better for email triage than the Surface.
I'm actually tempted to write a new mail app. I have some POP3 and IMAP code sitting around from a few years ago when I was writing a replacement mail client for WM 6.5, so if I get a chance, might see if I can use some of that.
@amb9800: That would be great. It should even be possible to publish it on the store; MS seems willing to let people duplicate the functionality of built-in apps, and the required Capabilities already exist (really, just network access and File Picker, with Share integration if you want to get fancy). Just make sure (especially if it's C/C++ code) that it's reasonably secure...
I only had a problem with the mail app when using it to access my ISP mail account directly. Since setting up Gmail and forwarding my accounts to there I've had no problems with syncing my mails, contacts, calendar entries, chats etc. Strangely my surface is more reliable for chats than my win8 laptop... the laptop is constantly saying it can't connect to various services but the surface is okay.....just my personal experience.

Porting some existing app over should be fairly easy. Let's hope for yours and/or others to arrive
One thing I have noticed people complaining about and I may have an answer.
GMail only allows a certain number of IMAP connections.
If you exceed this, you will get errors. So, if you use Outlook, an iPhone, and a few other devices, you hit the limit.
Additionally, some apps are not following the rules and will open more than one IMAP connection. For example, Thunderbird will use 4 by default!
http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP:_advanced_account_configuration
Reducing the number of apps that are hitting your IMAP may help.
