Another Sprint TP2 WM6.5 Upgrade Rumor - Touch Pro2 CDMA

Take it for what it's worth... I emailed the Sprint account rep that handles our corporate account and told him I needed a release date on WM6.5 for the TP2 or I was going to send my oders to Verizon. Within 10 minutes I had responses from 3 other individuals at Sprint. The first said it was do out within the next few days. The second said it was supposed to be March 12, but that date had been pushed back. The third said it had been pushed from the 12th to the 19th. My rep promised to "stay on top of it" and let me know if that date changes. We'll see.
EDIT: I guess I can't edit my subject, but it should've said "WM6.5" oops.

lets hope you have a reliable source, cause if you dont be prepared for some big flames

So his sources all have different dates. So it seems his information is completely unreliable.

As all the other threads posted within the past week or so claiming WM65 update was coming out on March 10th, 12th, 15th, 17th, 19th lol...
I'll believe it when I see it..

Sprint's promisses...
I design and manage applications for a company that has 500 Rhodium devices with Sprint and have spoken numerous times to many folks with various levels of technical expertise about their release date and a list of features they are backing into their "offficial ROM". Every time I get a different answer and some date in the near future...the dates have come and gone like messianic profecies.
I have tested compatibility of our apps with many of the of XDA cooked ROMs and know they will work well. Unfortunately, not all end users want to use custom ROMs for fear of bricking their devices (and creating me more work! I have brought so many bricked devices back I do not even recomend it anymore! They never read properly!)
So...Do not put your faith in Sprint or any other carrier, we are numbers to them. So until our numbers increase and we go elsewhere we do not have power to dictate or demand. Thus, we wait... or break free and flash away the pain.

I guess that was my point with this thread. 3 replies from Sprint, 3 different answers. Even though one of them gave a date, the other two responses make it seem questionable. I pushed the issue a little further, telling them they're losing business because of this, but they still couldn't come up with specific answers. Now I think that the problem is not that they don't care about the customers, but that they just might be that screwed up and no one really does know what's going on.

There does seem to be some confirmation of this over at PPCGeeks.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=114284

Well PPCGeeks appears to have heard the same thing.

Of course scheduled and actual release are two very different things.

Why is this here? I mean honestly, WHY? Isn't it enough all the other sites are quoting rumors as "fact"? Do we have to do it as well?
This thread should be closed.

AMEN! Close this! So many rumors. Either it's going to happen or not.

I'm going camping this weekend and I'm praying for my upgrade before I lose service or I'm going to be going through "upgrade-withdrawal" all weekend.

Just got the word from my Sprint Business rep.
My business rep just confirmed! He sent me this from his internal memo.

Sensation to be unlocked in aug - htc fb

AMAZING NEWS TODAY GUYS... this is from HTC page on FB posted an hour ago.
**UPDATE 7/10**
We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience.
We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments.
HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Gingerbread coming by end of the month for G2x?

Apparently the wait for the T-Mobile G2x Android 2.3 Gingerbread update might come to an end this month. As you might already be aware of, LG and T-Mobile has made quite a few promises regarding this upcoming long-awaited Gingerbread update since April this year, announcing that the update will be available “soon”.
However, we haven’t yet seen any updates for the G2X and everything we’ve got were the same “coming soon” announcements.
T-Mobile G2x Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update To Be Released This Month ?
T-Mobile G2x Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update To Be Released This Month ?
Apparently, one more announcement from this category has been made on the LG forums, suggesting that the T-Mobile G2X Android 2.3 Gingerbread update might actually be released this month. As you can see in the picture below, one of the forum moderators answered to a disappointed customer that he would be “really surprised” if the G2X update would take more than a month to be released. Let’s just hope that he’s not merely hoping as we all do, and he actually knows something about the July release of the Gingerbread update .

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more about the update.
Thanks PocketNow for the heads-up regarding this possible release window of the T-Mobile G2X Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

Meh.. they have given the same answers on that LG forum again and again to people. They say "within a month" and "by summer". Come on, lol.

No problem...was not directing to you obviously...
At this point, there is nothing about LG that I believe. First it's "coming soon," then "before summer," then "we're going to release a statement in a few days." All of those statements are full of **** if you ask me because NONE of the statements they've made has panned out. As far as i'm concerned, the G2X will never be updated. If by the luck of God it is, then i'm going to play with it again and see if the bugs are worked out and if by chance this lost company has done it some justice, then i'll switch back. It's sad because i'm one of the luck ones that got an exchange for a Sensation and I still check these forums on a daily to see if that update has came but just like everyone else, i've stopped believing. Flash the CM7 and be alright with that because the official ain't coming.

Yes, they keep feeding us crap and I am not sure they will ever release the long waited update either.
How did you menage to exchange g2X for the Sensation? Did you doit though t-mobile?

According to the Nordic LG site, the Gingerbread update for O2X is expected in fall 2011, so my guess is we won't see the update for G2X for while either...
Either way, I run CM7 without any problems on my G2X. Great phone!
does it say "by fall" hahah they are out of their minds.
Yep
Says "høsten 2011" which translates to "fall 2011"
well its a different phone therefore a different update..i wouldnt compare the two

[Q] DFT WML (Windows Mobile Loader) news ? (new picture !!!)

As I would really like to know a "when" but, I was really just wondering if there has been any news on the DFT project of a Windows Mobile loader for Windows Phone 7.
It was tweeted about here..
https://twitter.com/#!/CotullaCode/status/169865585591721985
We head a nice buzz about it on about 2 months ago with a video but, now nothing and has anyone heard any news on it ?
I have searched and googled the "heck" out of it with nothing but old news...
This is NOT looking for a ETA (that would be breaking XDA rules) I am just wondering if there has been progress or news on it.
Thanks !
I'm not aware of any. That's a bit surprising, considering that it looked pretty polished int he preview videos. It would be nice if the DFT forum weren't so inaccessible to most people who frequent XDA-Devs; there's a number of other forums as well and it's too bad that the hacking and homebrew community ineitably ends up fragmented as a result.

Exactly why I posted this. The Video looked like it was almost ready, there was hype about it and that was it. That was about 2 months ago.
And your so true about the fragmentation, it's too bad.
Thanks for your reply !
I guess no one has heard anything about this project ? Man, I have about 3-4 apps (nothing too fancy) that would love to run again and at least see if it was as good as I remember.
This sounded like a cool project..
It's been a while and I would really like this. My old Touch Pro's VGA display is too small to use my old 6.1/5 apps...
So, what they heck, anyone have a update on this ?
There has been a fair amount of silence of several projects lately, I suspect they are just busy.
Although in saying that, we're still waiting on WM6 ROM for the Alpine! that had a video published several years ago sooo.....
My guess is that development has been poured in to sorting out HSPL for various devices and similar tasks, after all, that is a much more useful project for a lot more individuals.
If you want my advice, just forget about it, that way, if and when its done then you can be over the moon again
rather then spend the next 6 months being annoyed about it all!

Maybe they are busy doing away with those God awful 1 2 3 buttons at the bottom of the screen; God I hope so
I am eagerly waiting for this release from DFT. I read somewhere that it uses something called hTC Gold to emulate. I really hope that it works on a Samsung Focus.
"HTC Gold" is HTC's internal name for the model of phone commonly known as the "HTC 7 Pro" (the CDMA variant, commonly called "HTC Arrive", is known as the "HTC Gold_C"). The phone you see in the picture above is an HTC Gold model.
As for whether it will work on a Focus, I can't be certain of that but I would guess that yes, it probably can. It depends on how much they're relying on the hardware of the phone, vs. just virtualizing all of that, though. For example, the 7 Pro (Gold) has a hardware keybaord, as you can see. The Focus does not, so if for some reason the hardware keyboard is required, that won't work. However, in most ways, all gen1 and even gen2 Windows phones are very similar.

Oh ok. Thanks for clearing that out. Talking about Windows Phone, today is a huge day for our beloved platform. Sorry to be off topic, but I just could not resist it.
Has anyone seen any new news on this ?
According to his Twitter page, there was some updates, It's now running WM 6.5 (instead of 6.1), wonder how close we are to a release...
Does anyone know if there is any news on this?
Best regards
I guess we'll know when cotulla wants us to know...I just hope it doesn't get dropped... It would be so useful!
Desperately waiting for DFT WML?
I'm looking forward to getting this Windows mobile loader too, as I'd like to keep running my brave old. ListPro. App for which I haven't found any decent and valid substitute yet.
Could DFT tell us what the real status is?
Don't hold your breath, this has been dead for ages unless anyone has any new news?

Guess I should relabel for Noobs.
While i agree with most of the article you shared with us , some reasons were insufficient.
In a carefully planned business , nothing is impossible.
For example , Google can force Open Handset Alliance to develop a Universal UI and whenever a new kernel comes aboard you just paste the universal ui into the new kernel. This is beneficial for everybody. Updates will take less long and customers will be happier. (Carriers will be pressured to speed things up)
Or Google can take the matter into its own hands by going to the hardware manufacturers and obtaining the necessary information for drivers thus saving the manufacturers from unnecessary work. Google gets more customers and Device Manufacturers get more money.
But what do i know ?
Google is a big corporation. Big corporations always have plans and their backups.
As far as i pretend to know , Google already has plans that are waiting to be put in motion after eliminating all the bugs.
Just you wait... IOS will be nothing more than ash and ruins in no time. Open-Source is the future and the way to go.

You're forgetting about the free market. Every phone has different components from different manufacturers from all around the world. Putting that kind of pressure on companies will only help the major brand names. You don't expect Windows 8 to install on the XP machine you got in 2001, do you? So why are we asking for the latest Android release for a phone we bought last summer? 18 months might not seem like a long time, but in terms of the technology and innovation that has come out within that time, 18 months is a long time.
Fragmentation is an issue, but its unrealistic to expect Google to force every company to keep up with their innovations.

Those were the solutions i came up within a minute or so. They'll have bugs of course.
Also , not necessarily "Google". There can be other solutions.
The thing i tried to explain was , it's not impossible or unrealistic as you seem to think so.
The expectations create competition. Someone's gonna do it , we switch to that brand. The other brand will lose sales and will soon follow in it's example.
Sympathy for corporations will get you nowhere as a consumer , as corporations already look out for themselves.
You should look out for yourself by pressuring corporations to provide better service however impossible or unrealistic that may be.
A wise man once said ; If you thank for the small one , you can't get the big one.

Small rant to Motorola for not keeping their word

Update:
Funny enough, I posted my rant a day before Motorola decided to provide an update on this.
http://phandroid.com/2017/04/10/moto-z-focrce-play-motorola-power-pack-mod-delayed/
I'm still disappointed on how "March" became "Spring".
Original text:
This rant is specifically due to the Moto power pack that needed to be available in March 2017, and Motorola didn't keep their word.
If you don't care about moto mods, nevermind this thread for you, please be respectful to my opinion.
One of the reasons I bought this phone is for the Moto mods and the open development (with incentives) they promised for new moto mods.
When Motorola walked in the stage and announced all of the 2017 moto mods updates, and tagged the new power pack to be available in March, I was sold on it and probably to the Z2.

Sadly, it is April 8th and still nothing about the mods, and specifically nothing about this new power pack "available in March", I am very understanding of companies not being able to meet their goals but the lack of communication is unacceptable.
I've tweeted them twice about this but they didn't care to respond.
If they walk to Mobile World Congress and promise something to an specific month, they should at least care to provide updates on the topic, if they can't execute on a single battery mod, I here warn people interested on this phone, that they wait to the Moto mods they want to be available before buying a Z-family phone. Just logic thinking, based on facts.
We can't allow companies to just talk out of their butt and then walk off like nothing happened, we paid a LOT of money, directly or indirectly, for this phone.
This is the problem with the industry overall, OEMs do whatever they want and we allow them to, these companies care less and less about commiting to customers and more about pleasing their directors and CEOs.
No wonder why Apple is such a big success, they too talk out of their butt sometimes, but I have to give them credit for their commitment to customers, and say that this is one of the obvious reasons of why Motorola is just a joke sub-company of Lenovo.
You walk in with an in-warranty, truly malfunctioning iPhone 7 to an Apple store, get the phone troubleshooting on site, and walk out with a new iPhone.
You try to exchange an in-warranty, truly malfunctioning Moto Z, and good freaking luck with that. I am serious, good luck, you might get a replacement in 3 days if you need to, hopefully.

They really need to get their crap together...
Motorola support has gone downhill ever since the Lenovo takeover.
Though from what I've heard, it's also pretty bad before they were Googli-fied.

I was gonna say the same thing.
Also they voided my warranty when I unlocked my device. This never happened with LG or HTC. I've claimed my warranty even are rooting the device multiple times.
