Damn, you mean it doesn't ACTUALLY make the tea?

Too bad it pauses when one turns off the screen or sends the app to the background. Kinda defeats the purpose if the phone has to be on all the time. Nice look, would be cool if you could fix the pausing.

Hi.
I think this is kind of great.
Maybe u could make a virtual cigarette app which looked like a cigarette burning. then i could get my gf to quit finally. Touch Puff tech.
I like OpenGL apps so thanks.

good graphics BUT it just crashed my HD2. Set the time for 3 mins and turned the screen off, turned it back on and it was just stuck and not counting down. could not do anything to the phone, had to remove battery and turn it back on for the phone to work again.

Damn, you mean it doesn't ACTUALLY make the tea?

Yeah, damn right! Just put a cup under the USB port of your HD2. When the time is over tea will come pouring out.
Seriously:
Thanks for the tip about the screen-off bug. Actually I designed the app so that the screen would stay on (in dimmed mode) while it is running. It never came to my mind that anyone would want to turn the screen off
I'll try to fix this soon...

does the hd2 make coffe? NO, but i makes tea!
jokkin aside...with opengl will have many good lookin app like iphone...maybe stupid apps, but surely funny

I know of a tiny app on the iPhone of a glass of beer that you can fill up, and when you tilt the screen (just as if you're drinking the beer), the glass becomes empty again.
Would be nice to have that on the HD2 as well
And of course beer as better than tea

Who cares about iphone?
At xda-devs you have also an app for everything!

@pappagallo...the app of drinkin beer exists for wm!

If you want to make coffee then you need this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=573661
here's the 'beer' drinking app mentioned: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=573661
I'll try the next release to see how tea brews (unfortunately in VGA cause I'm still on a Touch Pro)

Any thoughts on resizing to VGA? I just tested it and as expected (because i'ts designed for WVGA) the bottom of the screen is cut off. if the screen merely moved up a bit it would be fine. Thanks again- aesthetically it's phenomenal.

That should be no problem. Right now I'm a bit frustrated that the HD2 is so slow with OpenGL. Even this Tea app with only a hand full of triangles isn't running totally smooth... so right now I'm working on that.
Once this problem is solved I'll be happy to port this app to lower res screens

Please make it work with screen off , for example add a button to turn screen off

I actually tried that yesterday.
It seems to be very difficult to make an app run while screen is turned off. Maybe someone here knows how to do that?

OpenGL
Is your app using OpenGL ? I tried to write a small test program, but it always fails when I call eglMakeCurrent(...)
Would you mind sharing your initialization code ? I tried it with C++ and some "libegl.lib" file I found on the internet. They seem to work and get the libgles* files loaded according to the debugger output, but I can not get any further then the above call, which always returns "false"

Hi there!
I based my code on this project: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2008/08/net-compact-framework-wrapper-for.html
I'm sure that will you

Doesn't work on XPERIA....

There are a couple of sites that host brewing times for different kinds of tea. For example Black tea = 3 - 5 minutes, Tisane = 5-7 minutes. (http://www.artoftea.com/learn_about_tea/steeptime.html) it'd be great if you could code it as to select the type of tea you are brewing and have it count the time for you (as oposed to the app being just a stylized kitchen timer). Just a thought.
Otherwise, the application looks great, nice animation waiting for tea to brew is entertaining now

Hi
Great idea but indeed, to be used as a timer, you need to to update it so it does not when one turns off the screen or the app is in the background as it totally defeats the purpose. Looking forward to the update and it will be a killer app
Keep up the awesone work! Amazing graphics by the way

[DEV] Pokemon in the XDA way

Hey guys I'm not kidding,
when I bought my 7 years old little brother an old GamBoy Color within a the yellow edition of Pokémon from eBay, I just get in playing around with it myself, and I'm amazed of it again after so many years, when I played it last time. And btw. he likes playing it too
But emulation with e.g. Morphgear or any similar doesn't really get high resolution images while playing on the HD2 (of cause it was (is) designed for old GBC/GBA hardware and not for an hitech device like the HD2).
So here' what I mean:
bad idea:
Would it be possible to get access to games data and just replace the images with higher resoluted ones and set the resolution up (this must be done seperately I think, because it's designed for small BGA screens and just replacing images would affect nothing at the end). But anyway I don't spend much hope to this way of doing it, because it's an greenly and silly one!
better idea:
The other way would be to completely rewrite it (not really rewriting it, we must write it on our own, but we have a sample template - so we don't have to think of a complete new thing). I'm new in developing C++/C# and game development is a complete new thing to me. But I have some graphic skills... When there are some interested old-fashioned freaks like me out there (and I'm really sure there are many) - I would like to start a project for developing Pokémon for modern graphic standarts on modern hardware (like the HD2). Because here we have OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0 support, much CPU speed a.s.o. which could be a help. And the porting can't be that heavy, look at the GBC Files, they "just" have a size of 2MB, OK they maybe are compressed, but at all that can't be much (the GBC have to decompress this data, so even if they have a compression, it can only be lightweight)!
So are some of you interested? Then we maybe can make that project OpenSource, maybe we have to rename the project or the pokemons due copyright issues, this would be an annoying thing, but can be avoid with using an XML-table for the pokemons names for example, so "engaged modders" can change the pokemon names into similar real ones, while the official ones are just numerated for example.
GameDesign should be 2D, because it really looks good, and 3D Moddeling for 150 Pokemons - are you crazy??
GameDevelopment could be divided into:
1. The Background Game designing (actions, locations, the way to walk, the way pokemons appear, when conversations take place and finally the way of animation the pokemons fight)
2. The Image designing/moddeling (the way the scenery is arranged, like trees, houses, water, the arenas, caves and the main point: the Pokemons and maybe some animations take place in this category too??)
3. People speak, so we need the conversations etc and multilingual use would be nice at all.
But since now it's just an idea, but I like the idea! Maybe some of you like the idea too, and I want take the challenge - maybe Pokemon is one of the most ingenious games ever developed (regarding to the file size and the variety to play).
I would spent my part to the game with number 2 if the idea gets successfull!
My resolution is just perfect with pokemon red

[App] Hamster powered timepiece Live Wallpaper

Due to the complexity of animation, actions of Timester and limitations in the Android OS regarding widgets, a widget version of Timester is not possible at this time. Thank you for not asking for this again.
[update] Timester HD - the new Timester is roaming free on the market. Also www.Timester.info is live and updated.
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.timester.livewallpaper&feature=search_result
I've been looking for a nice clock for my desire ever since the sense clocks got so old for me. The market provides mostly image+clock arms widgets, so I thought of a different kind of a widget:
The main character is a very lazy hamster named Timester. This guy realized that he is somewhat overweight and unfit so he has to run the wheel. The hamster wheel turns as he reluctantly runs, which in turn engages a dynamo and all the other cogs and wheels inside. Every once in a while, Timester gets tired and goes to sleep. So when you unlock your phone you will find him sleeping but quickly getting up and getting exercise. Or he will run so fast that the wheel and hamster will seem one. Or hamster will slow so much that he needs a jolt kindly provided by the machine to resume running.
Blou_Aap was brave enough to step up to the challenge and is committed to building a great live wallpaper. In a few short days he managed to release a pre-alpha version, 0.001.
There are still a lot of features to be added, and optimizations to be implemented so please be patient with us and provide valuable feedback.

We updated it, has some facebook integration so "like" away.
V 1.04
- fixed bug that when Timester was on strike made clicks register as timester settings click.
--------------------------------------------------
V 1 .03
- different app and app name, so it won't show up as an update for the old timester
- more actions
- better optimised code, running smoother
- tablet support (tested on galaxy tab) please report any issues on tab or other tablets
- people with 320x480 screens will see that timester is oversized - don't fret, there are still some adjustments for smaller screens to be done and timester hd will support 320x480 properly
--------------------------------------------------
V 0.009
- Fixed bugs for 480x854 screens
- Removed app from app drawer

Thank you. Sniffy sounds good, but I think it should say something about him being a hamster or his personality. Unless I'm missing something, sniffy is about him having a fine sense of smell, or a good instinct in finding things.
Any other ideas?
Also, could anyone tell me if this is technically possible? I'm not sure about it because I haven't seen any heavily animated widgets. I wonder if that animation would not eat up the whole CPU.
What about Andy(The Lazy Ass Hamster) Lol
Sent from my Intergalactic Supah Dupah Spaceship¡¡!!!
Is there really no one that wants to help him...
i would totally use this clock LOL
How about Sherlock ?
Reading this has my imagination running.
Some ideas:
You could have several different hamster characters to choose from. One could be lazy like you suggested, one could be a ninja, one could be a personal trainer, the list goes on.
It would be cool if there were different "cut scenes" where the hamster does different things (like you're suggesting). Cut scenes would be based on the character. The lazy hamster (maybe name it Lightning?) would have cut scenes like sleeping, peeing and looking over his shoulder at you, gnawing on one of your app icons, etc. The ninja cut scenes would be like throwing stars at the clock, doing flips, hanging on things, or hiding behind the clock peering at you, etc.
When you talked about waking up the lazy hamster did you consider being able to shake the phone to wake him up?
I have plenty more ideas where those came from. This sounds like a pretty dang funny and fun clock idea. Your art is good too (almost a little too detailed for me actually) -- did you draw the mock-ups?
Would be sweet if a good UI/widget dev would come along and pick this one up. I've been working with a dev on a game, but I don't have coding experience.

It should be technically possible since u can use a SurfaceView as a widget
so drawing the Graphics there wouldnt be a problem
it would drain the Batter though, but dont know
u have to redraw the SurfaceView every second (serveral times per secon to maintain 25+ fps)
so the animations wont appear sluggish
I could try to program it, though my Programming Experience is limited ( only worked with 2D once )
could start immediately when i get my phone back (3-4 days)
//edit after seeing the chillin' hamster a idea to safe battery life popped up
u could just redraw the clock every minute? or every 40 seconds
if a minute is about to pass by the hamster starts running to turn the wheels so the new minute Image is shown

I am going to talk about a plug-in I wrote for the Sony Ericsson LiveView.
However, if you guys wish to discuss development for that device or how to make it work better, this is also welcome because it is both intriguing and under-represented (and a bit maddening at times)
Anyway, I was flabbergasted when I realized that there isn't any straightforward "watch" plug-in for the LiveView so in a couple hours I figured out how to use the SDK and created one.
I am not releasing it yet and I will only make it available it there is interest for it and I get the appropriate permissions from the people whose art I have used for this proof of concept app.
By the way, more face and hands art would be welcome!
A few (terrible) screenshots:
My LiveView was sent from the website i ordered it from, today=) I would really such an addon=)
And i can make you some artwork if i get something to work with=)
Oh, that's good.
I hope it works well for you. The device losing its pairing can be quite aggravating.
On the other hand it is a breeze to develop for; actually simpler than writing a home screen widget.
A friend of mine got it last week and said that he had lost his pairing once since he got it set up.
To me no development is a breeze i know squat about programing
But as said i would love to make you some graphics you could use so that you can release this=)
^^
I just received a sms from my post office that my LiveView had arrived
and here are a little graphic preview of some artwork you might use(?) It shows the whole thing, background, minute hand and hour hand=)
I really think you should release this addon
Ha! I like it a lot, in fact.
Can you post it as three files as described at http://www.voilaweb.com/lv_faq#createtheme?
Oh, and I updated the OP with a link to the beta apk
Will do, Just have to make some minor changes as the big and short hand are the same. and also added some indicators on the clock face.
Edit: Also, will you support this addon? i mean like bugs and stuff?
I guess, I will have to, yes
So, anyone go any feedback for me?
hey man.
i just installed your app from market and it's looking great.
i guess you can make a clock with digits or maybe a digital one.
it still disconnects but at least i have a watch
one other thing maybe you can ad an always on screen option
MrJay, first off, thanks for your feedback
The "always on" option would be nice but I invite you to think about this some more...say until your device dies on you because its damn battery is already too weak for the plug-in's current version
EDIT: OK I really don't want to sound negative. The device is really nice. I just wish it had better connectivity and battery life.
In fact, the tricks I read on how to force it to reconnect using AutomateIt, etc., end up sucking battery life like crazy.
The only thing i have to say about this addon, is that its a bit slow to update when i wake the screen. might take a sec before the clock shows the correct time.
Other than that, i love it
Thanks Marius.
Yes, I know about the 1 sec. delay it's due to sending as few updates to the device as possible, to improve battery life.
But maybe I could slightly alter this behavior for a "wake up" event.
BTW, I hope you guys are using the version from the market! It's free, but more likely to get updates than the one on my blog.

i stopped using automateit. it didn't do that much and yes you're right about the crappy battery life .
anyway keep up the good job. it's a nice to have application.
I ordered one of these devices today after seeing this post, fantastic plugin! this is perfect for when I'm at work, seeing as I work outside and don't have time to check my phone for any updates, much less the time. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Where can I order this I'm interested I live in California if that makes a difference
Well, Spitfire, so do I. I ordered from these guys: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004E2V4NM and it was shipped from Florida.
Have you updated this with any new themes?
Ive been away over the easter and haven checked in here for about 2 weeks. also i've been flashing a lot of ROMs lately so havent gotten to hook up my liveview yet. Will look in to it today th0=)

Awesome design. I fear that the LiveView's limited resolution will not be able to display something this complex, though. Not even something as good-looking as a TikTok

[GAME][2.2+] Tic Tac Toe Free!

Hi XDA community,
As you might be able to tell from the title, I wrote a Tic Tac Toe app as an exercise. I had only briefly looked at Android development previously, but never actually had a finished app published before.
If anyone has the time, would you mind trying the app out and putting up a review here or on the Google Play site? I'm new to this and would like as much criticism I can get from anyone. I also wouldn't mind help on getting more people to download the app, as that will bring it up in the rankings and hopefully others will download it as well.
Here is the link in case you decide to try the app out: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alex.tictactoe
Anyways, thanks in advance and enjoy your day =)

That's strange. I don't know why it would hang like that. ... The layout looks fine. The app seems to scale well across various density screens. Have you tried the hard level? You can switch levels through the Menu. I should make a settings activity and put it as a third button in the front screen. I'll look into why it hangs though.
Well, i didnt try the hard level, but i will.
Edit: Its laggy only the first time i start or if its cleared from memory. After some time, it starts running good.
Hard mode is nice.

I'll keep Hard mode as it is then.
The program "programmatically" makes a small database table to store the scores. This should happen every time the data is cleared. But that shouldn't be causing too much of lag. I'm not sure how I can tweak the database though.
Don't worry too much. My phone is low and i got used with laggy games. If you can fix the layout for my screen it would be great.
But you can make a settings activity or tell the users they can change the difficulty from menu, a toast for the first time they play for example.

From your earlier screenshot, it seems the bottoms gets cut off? Your phone is more squarish. I could make a layout for smaller screens with smaller text. That might work.

Yes. Maybe if you get off the title and make those two buttons smaller, clear board and reset scores, it will be ok. Also, you can put them in the menu.
Thanks for looking at the app ComfyMobile!.
eliboy, I am currently working on another app and don't have time to alter the Tic Tac Toe app. I hope you understand. However, thank you for the input. If I decide to go back and rework some parts of the app, I'll keep in mind the "square" resolutions as well. Thanks!

Android RING

i took a look into the future and this is what ive seen
maybe i should make a crowdfunding project but i just throw it out here xD
patents are not pending as i dont have money
the next big thing after watches have to be rings!!!!
nothing is more comfortable, easy to use, more lightweight etc
maybe we should make bets or something..
if holografic image projector come first then we dont need a touchscreen on the ring xD
well ok, holografic image projector in ring size could take a while....
however, smartwatches are 2013 .. we need rings google
/edit:
curiously i googled and found that one big problem might be solved soon: the energy source
The human battery: turning body heat into electric power

You have some very interesting ideas. I would agree that a ring would be cool, but I'm not sure they would be all that practical considering current technology.
Maybe a built in micro projector would work well. But it's likely the best use for a ring would be to flash for notifications, or act as an NFC device for payments. Or as a fitness device for monitoring your heartrate.
Looks like this is going to be my next wedding ring!
This will be great for small notifications and time but this looks more like a geeky gimmick add-on. Still awesome idea though.
Great idea...but no

A ring with some quick NFC action may be worth a look but I suppose any of the Android-powered watches could do the same thing. Still worth investigating.
Actually there are some smart rings in development. Not really android rings, but bluetooth ones.

i took a look into the future and this is what ive seen
maybe i should make a crowdfunding project but i just throw it out here xD
patents are not pending as i dont have money
the next big thing after watches have to be rings!!!!
nothing is more comfortable, easy to use, more lightweight etc
maybe we should make bets or something..
if holografic image projector come first then we dont need a touchscreen on the ring xD
well ok, holografic image projector in ring size could take a while....
however, smartwatches are 2013 .. we need rings google
/edit:
curiously i googled and found that one big problem might be solved soon: the energy source
The human battery: turning body heat into electric power

Wouldn't it be more realistic for the ring to be based on physical (button) touch - rather than holograph or touchscreen?
Could call it the iCheat, have a tiny speaker in it so when you take tests it spits out the answers to you while scratching your head.
Perhaps a stanhope lens concept could work, have a super small high dpi screen inside a stanhope lens, then you could place the long lense shaft on the top of the ring going parallel with it, it would be easy to look at the lens then, just like a microscopic telescope to one eye.
The ring could be hollow and contain the circuitry and battery, use the new graphene battery tech from Samsung. Then add similar tech to the Google glass for audio, having bone-conduction. It would need a little practice by the user to find the best spot to put their finger around their ear, but should work well. Plus microphone and your done.
It probably would work very well.
Nice idea i'll buy it if became reality
just wanted to leave this here:
