Android RING - Wear OS General

i took a look into the future and this is what ive seen
maybe i should make a crowdfunding project but i just throw it out here xD
patents are not pending as i dont have money
the next big thing after watches have to be rings!!!!
nothing is more comfortable, easy to use, more lightweight etc
maybe we should make bets or something..
if holografic image projector come first then we dont need a touchscreen on the ring xD
well ok, holografic image projector in ring size could take a while....
however, smartwatches are 2013 .. we need rings google

curiously i googled and found that one big problem might be solved soon: the energy source

You have some very interesting ideas. I would agree that a ring would be cool, but I'm not sure they would be all that practical considering current technology.

Maybe a built in micro projector would work well. But it's likely the best use for a ring would be to flash for notifications, or act as an NFC device for payments. Or as a fitness device for monitoring your heartrate.

Looks like this is going to be my next wedding ring!
This will be great for small notifications and time but this looks more like a geeky gimmick add-on. Still awesome idea though.

Great idea...but no
Just no,

A ring with some quick NFC action may be worth a look but I suppose any of the Android-powered watches could do the same thing. Still worth investigating.

Actually there are some smart rings in development. Not really android rings, but bluetooth ones.

it's a cool gadget but i don't think that this would be an bestseller.

Wouldn't it be more realistic for the ring to be based on physical (button) touch - rather than holograph or touchscreen?

Could call it the iCheat, have a tiny speaker in it so when you take tests it spits out the answers to you while scratching your head.

Perhaps a stanhope lens concept could work, have a super small high dpi screen inside a stanhope lens, then you could place the long lense shaft on the top of the ring going parallel with it, it would be easy to look at the lens then, just like a microscopic telescope to one eye.
The ring could be hollow and contain the circuitry and battery, use the new graphene battery tech from Samsung. Then add similar tech to the Google glass for audio, having bone-conduction. It would need a little practice by the user to find the best spot to put their finger around their ear, but should work well. Plus microphone and your done.
It probably would work very well.

Nice idea i'll buy it if became reality

Been thinking and now wonder if there is someone able to create an application behaving similar to a Wacom-tablet? There is applications out there that could work (Omnipresence, G-remote), but it's way to laggy to use in Photoshop.
It wouldn't have to have a lot of features (I'm actually not very informed about wacom-tablets and what features they have so I dunno what could be implemented). But it would be best to keep it clean and minimize the lag and optimize for use with stylus.
Am I the only one who thinks this would be awesome or are there more out there like me?
Edit: Thought I could add a list of wanted features for this, so if you'd like any special features implemented in the app, just post it and I'll add it to the list. I should also add that I have no knowledge of developing myself so I don't know what actually can be done.
- Adjustable Sensitivity (Could be a pain using such a small screen otherwise)
- Simulate a right-click on the mouse. (Either a map a hardware-button or make a separate soft key)
- Scrollbar (?)
Will be superb. Very good idea...
Seems like we are the only ones interested in this?
Hmm nice idea.
I think this should be able with .NET Framework.
I still work on 3 other projects till the end of november and then I will give a try to this project.
If somebody wan't to help me, please PN.
Great! If you need I can help out with graphics.
If this app goes well, it would save a lot of money for a lot of people. I mean even the smallest sized Wacom cost quite a lot.
Really nice idea people . Hope it gets developed ..will be qiute a big saving

Ever tried one? Even the smallest wacom(bamboo) is all the money worth. I habe one and i wouldn't miss it.
btw. it isn't possible to rebuild the functionality of a wacom - you don't have to touch the panel. you move the pen a few millimeters across the panel and tap to click
Wacom tablets are combination resistive+capacitive tablets. You can't replicate the functionality with the simple resistive (or capacitive) panel you have available to you on the phone. The stylus is also pressure-sensitive, so pressing harder gives you thicker lines when you're drawing. You can't do that without electronics in the stylus.

I agreee. WACOM's new line of tablets - Bamboo - are actually very inexpensive (I picked up a 4x6 model for $60 at Fry's Electronics) compared to some of their higher end tablets, and for most functions you would use a tablet for, they work great (wouldn't try to do autocad or anything like that with it, but it's great for photoshop and web design - which is what I do).
Granted, for something like basic handwriting recognition, using our touchscreen phones would certainly be a good alternative. The PocketTablet software mentioned earlier seems like it would meet those needs, but of course if someone wanted to develop a free alternative, I'm sure no one would complain

Depends if you want to? If you think you can make it better, go ahead! Also, that software had to be purchased (yes I know, I'm cheap, but I'm short of money at the moment).
Also, my intentions with this wasn't to make an exact copy of a Wacoms functionality, I realize that can't be done. But something close that could work without lagg to use while saving for the real thing.
Moved as not software release or development.
Please take your time to read the rules.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447646
I think we can make it better.
But which functions we should develop to make a better program?
First Post Updated
Check first post. I made a layout and features suggestion, I think it could work pretty well. I had to think a while to solve the problem with having to move the mouse without drawing.
So if you hold the "left-click" button, the button holds down, which means if you then move with the stylus, it gets drawn. If you don't have the left-click button held down, you only move the mouse.
Feel free to add suggestions and opinions!
Christ... since this thread was moved to Q&A the activity died completely!

[APP] TeaMachine (Using OpenGL ES)

Check it out (and download it) on my website: TeaMachine Homepage
Damn, you mean it doesn't ACTUALLY make the tea?
Too bad it pauses when one turns off the screen or sends the app to the background. Kinda defeats the purpose if the phone has to be on all the time. Nice look, would be cool if you could fix the pausing.
Hi.
I think this is kind of great.
Maybe u could make a virtual cigarette app which looked like a cigarette burning. then i could get my gf to quit finally. Touch Puff tech.
I like OpenGL apps so thanks.
good graphics BUT it just crashed my HD2. Set the time for 3 mins and turned the screen off, turned it back on and it was just stuck and not counting down. could not do anything to the phone, had to remove battery and turn it back on for the phone to work again.
Damn, you mean it doesn't ACTUALLY make the tea?

Yeah, damn right! Just put a cup under the USB port of your HD2. When the time is over tea will come pouring out.
Seriously:
Thanks for the tip about the screen-off bug. Actually I designed the app so that the screen would stay on (in dimmed mode) while it is running. It never came to my mind that anyone would want to turn the screen off
I'll try to fix this soon...
does the hd2 make coffe? NO, but i makes tea!
jokkin aside...with opengl will have many good lookin app like iphone...maybe stupid apps, but surely funny
I know of a tiny app on the iPhone of a glass of beer that you can fill up, and when you tilt the screen (just as if you're drinking the beer), the glass becomes empty again.
Would be nice to have that on the HD2 as well
And of course beer as better than tea
Who cares about iphone?
At xda-devs you have also an app for everything!
@pappagallo...the app of drinkin beer exists for wm!
If you want to make coffee then you need this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=573661
here's the 'beer' drinking app mentioned: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=573661
I'll try the next release to see how tea brews (unfortunately in VGA cause I'm still on a Touch Pro)
Any thoughts on resizing to VGA? I just tested it and as expected (because i'ts designed for WVGA) the bottom of the screen is cut off. if the screen merely moved up a bit it would be fine. Thanks again- aesthetically it's phenomenal.
That should be no problem. Right now I'm a bit frustrated that the HD2 is so slow with OpenGL. Even this Tea app with only a hand full of triangles isn't running totally smooth... so right now I'm working on that.
Once this problem is solved I'll be happy to port this app to lower res screens
Please make it work with screen off , for example add a button to turn screen off
I actually tried that yesterday.
It seems to be very difficult to make an app run while screen is turned off. Maybe someone here knows how to do that?
OpenGL
Is your app using OpenGL ? I tried to write a small test program, but it always fails when I call eglMakeCurrent(...)
Would you mind sharing your initialization code ? I tried it with C++ and some "libegl.lib" file I found on the internet. They seem to work and get the libgles* files loaded according to the debugger output, but I can not get any further then the above call, which always returns "false"
Hi there!
I based my code on this project: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2008/08/net-compact-framework-wrapper-for.html
I'm sure that will you
Doesn't work on XPERIA....
There are a couple of sites that host brewing times for different kinds of tea. For example Black tea = 3 - 5 minutes, Tisane = 5-7 minutes. (http://www.artoftea.com/learn_about_tea/steeptime.html) it'd be great if you could code it as to select the type of tea you are brewing and have it count the time for you (as oposed to the app being just a stylized kitchen timer). Just a thought.
Otherwise, the application looks great, nice animation waiting for tea to brew is entertaining now
Hi
Great idea but indeed, to be used as a timer, you need to to update it so it does not when one turns off the screen or the app is in the background as it totally defeats the purpose. Looking forward to the update and it will be a killer app
Keep up the awesone work! Amazing graphics by the way

I am going to talk about a plug-in I wrote for the Sony Ericsson LiveView.
However, if you guys wish to discuss development for that device or how to make it work better, this is also welcome because it is both intriguing and under-represented (and a bit maddening at times)
Anyway, I was flabbergasted when I realized that there isn't any straightforward "watch" plug-in for the LiveView so in a couple hours I figured out how to use the SDK and created one.
I am not releasing it yet and I will only make it available it there is interest for it and I get the appropriate permissions from the people whose art I have used for this proof of concept app.
By the way, more face and hands art would be welcome!
A few (terrible) screenshots:
My LiveView was sent from the website i ordered it from, today=) I would really such an addon=)
And i can make you some artwork if i get something to work with=)
Oh, that's good.
I hope it works well for you. The device losing its pairing can be quite aggravating.
On the other hand it is a breeze to develop for; actually simpler than writing a home screen widget.
A friend of mine got it last week and said that he had lost his pairing once since he got it set up.
To me no development is a breeze i know squat about programing
But as said i would love to make you some graphics you could use so that you can release this=)
^^
I just received a sms from my post office that my LiveView had arrived
and here are a little graphic preview of some artwork you might use(?) It shows the whole thing, background, minute hand and hour hand=)
I really think you should release this addon
Ha! I like it a lot, in fact.
Can you post it as three files as described at http://www.voilaweb.com/lv_faq#createtheme?
Oh, and I updated the OP with a link to the beta apk
Will do, Just have to make some minor changes as the big and short hand are the same. and also added some indicators on the clock face.
Edit: Also, will you support this addon? i mean like bugs and stuff?
I guess, I will have to, yes
So, anyone go any feedback for me?
hey man.
i just installed your app from market and it's looking great.
i guess you can make a clock with digits or maybe a digital one.
it still disconnects but at least i have a watch
one other thing maybe you can ad an always on screen option
MrJay, first off, thanks for your feedback
The "always on" option would be nice but I invite you to think about this some more...say until your device dies on you because its damn battery is already too weak for the plug-in's current version
EDIT: OK I really don't want to sound negative. The device is really nice. I just wish it had better connectivity and battery life.
In fact, the tricks I read on how to force it to reconnect using AutomateIt, etc., end up sucking battery life like crazy.
The only thing i have to say about this addon, is that its a bit slow to update when i wake the screen. might take a sec before the clock shows the correct time.
Other than that, i love it
Thanks Marius.
Yes, I know about the 1 sec. delay it's due to sending as few updates to the device as possible, to improve battery life.
But maybe I could slightly alter this behavior for a "wake up" event.
BTW, I hope you guys are using the version from the market! It's free, but more likely to get updates than the one on my blog.

Where can I order this I'm interested I live in California if that makes a difference
Well, Spitfire, so do I. I ordered from these guys: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004E2V4NM and it was shipped from Florida.
Have you updated this with any new themes?
Ive been away over the easter and haven checked in here for about 2 weeks. also i've been flashing a lot of ROMs lately so havent gotten to hook up my liveview yet. Will look in to it today th0=)

Sound Box
It reacts on a shaking and makes your phone act as a bell, drum, rattle, wind chimes and other such a stuff. It's a toy for fun. Some users noted that children also love it.
So shake your phone, have fun!
The goal
Actually the initial idea came from my friend. She said: it would be cool if you'll shake your phone and it will sound like a junk in a metal box or like a broken device. Totally broken. Later me and my friends came up with an invention to add a bell, maracas and more. When I started, the main goal was to make an app that authentically behave like a rattle, a bell, etc. I tried to get a realistic reaction to the phone shaking. Among other things, different sounds for different strength of shaking - just like real things. Hope I've succeeded.
Variations
There are two versions: lite and full. Lite version contains limited set of sound themes. For now there are small bell, darbuka and "digital" sound (simple sine harmonics). Full one is a set of about 20 sound themes. There are, in addition to lite ones, metal and bamboo wind chimes, maracas, rattlesnake, jingle bells, tin can with junk (yeah that junk from the initial idea) and much more. For now full version is paid.
Requirements
- Android 1.5+.
- No additional permissions required.
Notes
The application locks most of the buttons by default. You could switch it off: see Menu -> Settings for details!

Yeah, why not. Actually there was an idea to make it possible for users to create sound themes by themself and share it with anyone. Right now I finishing my first game. After it possibly I'll made it.
Anyway I'll try to record some nice guitar sound and add it to the existing set.

Awesome! I love the segregation of buttons & isolated perfectly starked notifications. I gotta ask. Are you pitching the iterated interactive design to Samsung? Which unfortunately is akin to a distance from planet Jupiter to Earth i.e posting it on XDA. I know it's a good take one takes pride in but I'll advise you push this to Samsung directly via their social media handles. I'm sure they'll be enlightened .
That aside, does the starked individual notification merge as a single entity and expand at will? If yay then it's intuitive but nay, it's counter intuitive as space will be sacrificed.
It looks horrible, especially the stacked notifications, how cramped everything is, the lack of margins, inconsistent capitalization, and an ugly font. I seriously hope this isn't real and it's just someone's fevered dream.
I find it hard to believe a professional designer designed this with all these gaping issues. It looks like it was designed by an amateur who knows nothing about aesthetics or theory of design.

It's not just me... don't like the cut off length volume and brightness. Rounded notice corners cuts usable estate. Stacking shouldn't be mandatory, looks like it be hard to use, don't know. Dark mode gives a better presentation in my opinion.
The volume under the brightness control full length would work. Otherwise not easy to precisely set. A optional percentage indicator on both slides be a nice touch.

Those stacked notifications are dope! It's a fresh, unique look.
Safe to say changes like these will always divide opinion. Some will love them, and others will hate them.
The best solution would be to add customisation so that the USER chooses which style they prefer.
I just wish companies stop forcing big UI changes on customers without options to customize said changes.
The more customization the better! Add an entire new settings sub-menu called "Customizations for Nerds" that unlocks with Developer Settings (double tapping build # five times) and throw in there every little extra change that users can do to the phone that did not make it to the final version.
Where is One UI 6 ?
It is in the ether world.
As a old web designer i'll say this design is really bad because of bad margin, unconsistent language, eye bleeding color palette and ugly grid layout.
Bro designing concepts is not for you, look for another talent / hobby.
You all are acting like this is official. News flash! It's not even close. Did you not see the OP is a New Member? Take this with an extremely small grain of salt.
