Never, I'm afraid. O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone will be selling this phone; Orange and 3 will not.

Is that confirmed? As far as I knew, Orange customer service people had said that Orange wouldn't be selling the HD2. However, when you consider the lack of knowledge the people at O2 have about the HD2 (some still insist that O2 doesn't sell HTC devices, despite the HD2 having been in their magazines for about a month), what customer service people say doesn't mean much.
3 never have any good phones, so I agree with the assumption that they won't be getting the HD2. lol.

True, and its coming to orange in other countrys.
Shame you cant get it on 3 after the latest ofcom reports seems that they now have the best reception out of all the networks especially for 3g.
Still not sure I would go back to them after their hideous service though.

COMING
I talked to a rep last week at Phones4U in Wimbledon, where they confirmed that next month, which in this case should be February, they will start selling the HD2 on Orange. The guy I talked to was on a training the day before and he seemed to be absolutely sure about this...
Fingers crossed this also means we will get it as a free upgrade directly from Orange...

Seems it is available.

XDA Zinc coming soon on O2

Just checked the O2 website and the XDA Zinc is on the coming soon list due for release in Jan. Did some research and this looks like the handset to replace my Mini S (wizard).
Anybody have a Zinc yet? What are your thoughts?
I'd quite like to get this however I'm not sure about sticking with o2. The MDA Vario II on T-Mobile seems much more attractive with the web and walk tariff

Totally agree but T-Mobile call quality/coverage is crap compared to O2 (in London at least!).
Is it possible to get a Blackberry tariff and use it in an xda? I've noticed that they have unlimited data tariffs at reasonable prices, but I'm not sure if it would work in an xda and if it covers that type of data usage
not sure, good shout though. I was even considering get the handset and picking up a 3 sim card, they have got good deals at the mo and also offer unlimited data access. Not sure the sim would work in the handset though.....
Just spoke to customer services, release date is 15 Jan however no new data packages
I rang o2 and asked them if they could match the T-Mobile offer. They said for £36 a month I could get 36mb of data. They pretty much told me to go with T-Mobile...decided that's what I will do!

I had a simular conversation, my contract is up in jan so i will have to reconsider.
Also does anybody know if the Zinc has a jog wheel / dial like the TyTyn?
does anybody have any links to reviews of this handset ?
just spoke to O2 and the new release date is March! even though their website still says jan!

MDA Vario IV t-mobile "due date" thread.

Update: The Vario IV "is in testing at the moment and won't be available until the end of September"
As yet, "there is no stock or pricing information available to anyone at t-mobile"
Obviously, if anyone else rings up they will probably be told something completely different.
I will keep trying every 7 days.
MDA vario IV
I think that they are saying end of September to be on the safe side.
T-Mobile announced the Vario IV before the Touch Pro, they must of been testing it for weeks now I think that it may come out in August. They may release it on the quiet.
How long did it take for the Compact IV to come out after the Diamond?

That's the thing about call centres, large companies and the people who pay for it all to exist.
The company never treats the front line staff with enough respect to give them the information they need to do their job efficiently.
See the very recent debacle of t-mobile sending out the Diamond instead of the Vario.
This leads to a huge drop in efficiency and a lack of information which causes some of the first line staff to talk rubbish in a pointless
attempt to gain kudos from having 'inside' information. The only other people to be impressed by this are other first line staff.
That's all I get for paying t-mobile over £800 per year, I guess
I see htcdirect have also brought their date forward to the 4th of August too.
http://www.htcdirect.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=418
I'm thinking this is probably the real date now as several firms that were listing 30th August have now started showing the 4th.

Nah, it just means they don't have any stock and they are changing their dates to reflect what other companies with no stock are saying so it looks like they have stock.
Devicewire.co.uk is run by the UK's Brightpoint subsidiary. That's why they got the first official UK Diamond stocks, and they show 1st September. I'll go with devicewire every time, knowing that they are run by the main European distributor, thanks muchly. when Device wire shows 4th august, i might believe it.
And no, they don't have them in stock yet.
So where do we reckon Expansys will get their dodgy early grey import stock from this time then??
I'll be in for one as an upgrade, wonder what T-mobile will offer it to me for ????

Called T-Mobile!
I just called T-Mobile about an upgrade asked about the Vario IV. He had no idea what I was talking about he even tried to sell me the compact IV and I had to pay £40 for the handset. Yeah right! The price that I'm looking for when I upgrade is free. lol
Devicewire now have their stocking coming in date as the 18th August now.
If you want more information on my dealings with T mobile head office then please visit my blog as i have already put some information on there, plus will be updating it as and when the lady from the directors office gets in touch with me.

HTC Raphael Poll: HTC/Offline vs Carrier/Contract

Just a quick poll to see if you will be buying HTC branded devices offline or getting them from your carriers.
HTC device every time
Yeah same for me. The HTC TyTN II was the first device I'd bought offline and frankly...I don't think there's any going back!
It is however more expensive. But then when my upgrade is due, I will just get an upgrade or take money off my bill. If I get a device I will flog it on ebay! Evens out really, plus the HTC styling is always nicer (physically I mean but the same applies to the ROMs).
Raphael won't be available in the US for a looong time (I'm GSM of course) so I have to try to work that AT&T ROM onto a European version before then.
I'll also go for a Touch Pro without contract - I'll buy it most likely from Amazon for 650,-Euro.
(..it's not like we have a choice here in Bulgaria, phones don't get any carriers' subsidies but..) Definitelly w/o contract.

I did say AT&T ROM... Now why would AT&T come out with a ROM that won't work on their own network?

So you are saying that if i get the euro version-- and flash it with att rom. I will be able to get American 1900 3g? Yea it thought that it was a hardware issue. I feel like i should know this.
It all depends on how generous Tmobileuk are with their upgrade offers. In May 2007, a few months after it came out, I got the Compact 3 free on an 18 months Flext25 contract at £18.50 a month. So it cost me £333 including all my calls (I never go over my limit)
I'm hoping/expecting them to come up with the goods again in October when I'm due my next upgrade. But if they don't I will look around for the cheapest TCO and take the plunge for that one.
Having said that, if they muck about with it too much, removing 3G/wifi, a whacky case redesign etc then I will probably jump ship anyway
Where's the option for BOTH?
I'll get an HTC one and then a T-Mobile upgrade one to sell.

lol, my bad. I should have had a "Both" option, I'll likely be doing the same myself!!
My contracts are up on 2 phones for ATT: just biding my time until the Tpro is available. Then I'll probably try the Omnia for a while to see if I can deal with no keyboard (coming from the 8525, tilt, and 8125, I don't believe so.), then probably end up with the Tpro. But then my daughter, who's using my Tilt will want a Tpro, I'm thinking. But the best part of it is, I've got another contract up in 12/25/ 08! I sure hope I won't disappointed.
I just wish the x1 would be around for ATT!

HTC HD2 / Leo on a US carrier now?

Hello Everyone,
I was curious as I cannot find a definitive answer to this. Looking at the specs page on HTC (http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hd2/specification.html), it appears that this phone would possibly be usable on a US carrier. I am wondering if using the method in the link below might apply to the HD2 as well. Before you ask why I don't just wait for it to come stateside...well, what's the fun in that?
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/htc-touch-pro/120970-sprint-touch-pro-verizon.html
US Leo
Went to the ATT store yesterday to look at the Pure (hated it) and they went online to check the specs and assured me it would run on their network if it was unlocked!
Yeah...I saw that. Problem is that I am currently with AT&T and am looking to switch to a CDMA carrier. Not too happy with AT&T or T-Mobile at the moment. =\
The word is that it will come to US carriers in The first quarter of 2010. The European specs suggest it will be to AT$T or T-Mobile.
Funny, I switched to AT$T a few years back because Sprint and Verizon really sucked.
After ten years with Nextel and then Sprint, my Blackberry's screen cracked and the hangup button stuck making the phone almost unusable. Even though I was 2 months before my contract was upgrade available, they refused to, after ten years with them, subsidize a new phone. Suffered with my phone for two more months and switched to AT$T, so far they have been great to me.
Somehow I doubt it will come to AT&T, unless they are smart enough to see that this is the best contender against the iPhone. AT&T's monopoly with Apple makes them complacent and slow to provide their customers with alternatives.

Check the vid. This is the snappy WinMo phone we've been waiting for!
HTC HD2---Battery Size, is this 1230 " BIG ENOUGH"???
It's not a Beast, it's Beautiful! The Russians have given us size comparison & review, a must read. It still needs work but so far it's showing itself to be at the top of the list. I believe when it gets updated it will arrive in the US.

I agree, I just don't see it happening. Part of the reason why I left AT&T (and my iPhone) was because of the massive amount of dropped calls. I finally got fed up and switched. But considering the amount of trouble they are having with the iPhone, I doubt they would pickup it's best competitor.
Hmm, I can't remember the last time I dropped a call. Probably happens more in "population dense" areas (e.i., not here).
Anyway, I want to find the answer to this question as well. From all the specs I see the phone is theoretically capable of running on AT&T's 3G (UMTS 850 and 1900 Mhz).
Source: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2062&c=htc_hd2_us_htc_leo
However, I'm not an expert on US phone bands. Perhaps a seasoned XDA developer could help us with this?
Those specs on pdadb are not final "Datasheet State: Preliminary specifications".
But yes, it would do 3G on at&t if finalized UMTS 850 & 1900 Mhz).
I bought one
I just purchased one from amazon on pre-order, my cousin is shipping it to me as soon as it gets to him.
Anyone up for working on building an android rom for for it, not a big fan of WinMobile. In-fact this is the whole reason I got it besides the fact its a sweet phone!!!

This does sound weird..If the main reason of getting the phone is android, why not just wait for a native android phone that has a similar spec? (e.g. HTC Dragon / Acer Liquid / Experia X3)

Not trying to be a jerk, but I figured I would share my insight/experience with the issue you had with Sprint/Nextel, and will probably have with AT&T and any other provider you go with.
I work for T-Mobile currently, and have been there for over 5 years now (and will tell you right now, The HD2 is coming to us.) The issue you had is the most common complaint in the industry. The truth is, no matter where you go, it'll be the same thing. On top of it not being "fair" to customers that are just as loyal, but only have 7 years tenure instead of 10 years, it's the fact that you "only being 2 months away from your full discount pricing," that company could potentially be losing 2 months of your commitment. Meaning, if they make you wait till your contract is over, they'll get a fresh 2 years out of you. If they give it to you 2 months before your contract is over, they'll only get 22 months out of you. You see my point ? Now, what I personally think should be done is, you have 2 months to go ? Okay, we'll make your contract be a solid 26 months, and you get your "full discount" today, early.
Cellphone customers really need to be grateful about getting plan discounts, loyalty credits, full upgrades, partial upgrades. Because let me tell you. Not every business out there gives loyal customers anything. I've been a loyal "Florida Power and Light" customer for 6 years, never had a late payment and inturn have never been given a discount on my electric bill. I mean, how often does your credit card company send you a letter saying, "Hey, you've been such a loyal customer...here's a 12% off discount for being a AAA member, and for every customer you refer to us we'll give you $175 credit to your bill!" Ya know ? I'm not expecting anyone to LIKE this answer. But it IS the reason, and I'm sure the rep's answer that you're dealing with at the time, "Because!," doesn't do it for you. So I figured I'd take the time to inform you guys.

Will it run on H or just 3g ( seems like ATT is blocking Hsdpa cos of Heavey load)
Will we be able to do Tethering with it ?

I just got off the phone with a HTC tech support. I had some questions about the release date. I wanted to know if it was going to release in Q1 2010 fiscal or Q1 2010 calendar. Get this, he said all he knew was Q1 2010 to T-mobile. sucks for me because T-mobile is non-existent in my neck of the woods.
I agree (I'm w/SECO) but TMO reception is really bad where I live & I've been following the 'LEO' for a long time patiently waiting for it & if it's only going to TMO I think I'm going to ... well maybe get some sort of 'mi-fi' to use it. I need a phone & the HD2 is what I want. Thanks

Want a Sensation on Orange?... Could be a problem

Hey guys, thought I'd share something that I found out today.
So, I've been waiting patiently (kinda) for the sensation to be released on Orange. Pretty much every other day I've called up and pestered Orange customer services or gone into one of their stores to ask about this phone, hoping that one day I'll strike it lucky and it'll be in stock.
Anyway, today, whilst on one of my random visits, I asked if they had any in stock and I was told that that sensation had failed Orange's software tests (so I guess Orange's crappy software didn't like this phone!) and that it may not be coming to Orange at all!
I was pretty pissed so I called orange customer support and, after explaining that I knew their 'dirty little secret' the lady on the other end told me that what the guy in the store had told me the truth and that the sensation had failed its tests. She was a little more optimistic though and told me that a second wave of tests was going to be carried out and I might be able to expect the phone sometime during the beginning of July.
I' still pretty annoyed by this... why can't phones just be unlocked and free of all the software that providers pile onto them?
I'm considering Vodafone after this... the only thing that's keeping me with Orange is the 25% discount I've built up. Any British Sensation owners had any problems with Vodafone?
Can anyone who has a Sensation on Orange tell me if it has been branded (orange logo somewhere on the phone's casing) & if it does have the usual Orange crud pushed into the software on the phone?

Nope! I moved to Vodafone from T-Mobile to get the Sensation when it was released on 19th May. The signal is much better than T-Mobile or 3, and I seem to get a "H" symbol more often than before. Voice calls seem to connect better too, none of the huge pauses I had with T-Mobile or 3.

However, I asked if the phone is unlocked and they said no - all other networks (via this site) are unlocked but Orange (with which the site is affiliated) are locked. They could not tell me about branding or software though when I called (may try again today) hence posting in your thread.
Yesterday they said the phone could be with me today so they are are either selling SIM locked phones with no Orange Software or someone, somewhere is getting a little confused at customer services

Haha, maybe they are, though perhaps you're right in thinking that they're selling SIM locked phones.
I called Orange again just now and the woman on the other end told me that the Sensation should be in stock come mid-July.
Think it's possible to carry over a discount after buying a phone from one of these online retailers? Maybe calling up Orange and letting them know that you're still with them but decided to get a phone from elsewhere?

Well I decided to order from that site as I figured, going on what you were told about the phone being available on Orange mid-July and that the site say the phone will be with me on Tuesday, that if it arrives with Orange software and SIM locked, I can return it within 7 days & cancel the contract. However, if they are selling Orange contracts & the Sensation and your information is correct then I may be lucky to get an Orange-free phone.

I received delivery of the HTC sensation yesterday, ordered from the site mentioned above by Pride429 on an Orange contract, after upgrading from an O2 HTC HD2. I preordered the Sensation at the end of May.
I swapped the sims and both models are not simlocked and there is no Orange logo on the Sensation anywhere.
So far, I've been very impressed. Miles quicker and will use T-Mobile when no Orange signal, which is good as only Orange works where I live.
Fantastic upgrade.

I received delivery of the HTC sensation yesterday, ordered from the site mentioned above by Pride429 on an Orange contract, after upgrading from an O2 HTC HD2. I preordered the Sensation at the end of May.

Thank you for that superb & most welcome information - fingers crossed I get exactly the same as I sometimes have the same issues with signal
Good news - my Sensation arrived today from the site I posted - SIM unlocked (just finishing using my previous Virgin contract on it) & more importantly, no damn orange software or branding.
Looks as though I have been lucky as I had been told they only sold Orange contracted Sensations that are SIM locked.
Very happy - now to get down to some serious fingering!

That handset will be a SIM-free model with an Orange SIM card in it - best deal tbh as it won't have all the Orange crap on it
