Help Repairing Phone - General Questions and Answers

I am from the USA, and I purchased a Rogers HTC Magic from ebay. The phone is pretty much is bricked. I can't access any kind of hard reset hitting the different button combinations. I call HTC to see if I can do it under the 1 year warranty. HTC tells me they can't repair Rogers cell phone only Rogers can. I called Rogers and asked if I could replace under the manufactuer warranty. They tell me I must be a Rogers subscriber to do that. I'm lost here guys. Does anyone know of a repair place, or a way I can get it replaced under the 1 year warranty?

Question about AT&T warranty when using phone in Canada

Hi Guys,
I have a at&t branded fuze and the touch screen seems to have stopped working.
I bought it off craigslist and it came unlocked. I am using it on a canadian provider (Rogers).
Can i still claim warranty on the device through AT&T or do i go through HTC?
I have no account with AT&T other then just owning their branded device.
Does the warranty still apply since it is unlocked?
and if so do i just phone AT&T and tell them that I am using it in Canada?
Thanks for the help
I doubt AT&T would honor any warranty unless you bought it from them new and have an account. They act as a middle person by sending you a refurb phone then send the broken one to HTC. You may try contacting HTC directly to see if they can be of assistance, but you may need a receipt.

[Q] Hd2 locked after HTC service

I have just recieved my HTC HD2 back from HTC's service centre in the UK after a long 5 week wait to fix a damaged LCD. When I sent it to them it was unlocked as I purchased it as an unlocked handset. It was originaly a T Mobile phone. When I got it back it is now locked again and is no use to me like this as I'm using the 3 network. I have tried to get it unlocked again remotely by imei but it seems the repair centre replaced my motherboard and this has changed the imei. I gave the new number to the unlocking firm and they are a reliable one I have used before. They have informed me that no HTC tool exists to unlock this imei and I won't get it unlocked because the motherboard was replaced. I have asked HTC to unlock this as they had no business locking it again in the first place. They said they will but I don't know how much longer I'll have to wait. Does anyone know anything about this or can spread some light on this situation? Maybe someone has heard of this before or is there another way to get the phone unlocked. I'm desperate to get using this phone again.
Any info appreciated.

[Q] My sensation wont recognize a specific simcard

First off, thank you for making a brilliant forum! Now that I dont get any further by searching for information I need som help from you guys.
Thing is: I have two sensations. Both are s-off, rooted, superCID and have the latest coindroid installed. Both are originally tmobile phones which were bought unlocked some while ago. They have both been used successfully in europe until now that im in the US.
For various reasons i have three simcards for these phones. And in one of them t-mobile doesnt seem to work at all. Neither before software modifications or after. The other phone with similar mods have no problems.
The other simcards are a norwegian one and another pay-as-you-go simcard which has been used since t-mobile doesnt work.
Since both phones are rooted and s-off I guess there is a setting somewhere. Where is this particular setting? Anybody that could come a newbie to the rescue?
Thanks!
no setting if phone dont ask for a unlock code or has been unlocked i am going to say bad/banned imi number call t-Mobile and ask them if your phone is black listed
The phone is blocked by tmobile it appears. Bought it off amazon nine months ago. The phone was sold as new and "unlocked" back then and w/o warranty, but not as stolen phone. Im angry right now.
Neither Tmobile or HTC are very helpful on the phone. Costumer service at Tmobile keeps failing to put me over to anyone who can help.
Any tips on how to proceed further? Showing up at one of their shops and stay there until someone is able to help?
Since the phone is without warranty its very tempting to do illegal stuff to it right now.

Only things you can do try att sim but may not work
resell on eBay for parts should get most of your money back or keep calling T-Mobile there the only ones who can if they will

[Q] AT&T - Help Bad Situation

If anyone has a good relationship with anyone in management at at&t ... warranty dept ideally..... can you please pm me .... i need help.....
long story but in a nut shell i had a warranty claim involving charging port on my phone and it got misdelivered by post office .... second phone came and i was late returning it because it was lost in the return envelope somewhere... well they charged my account for $2000 dollars!!!
A representative of the warranty dept took over the case and we were doing great.... i assured her the phone had been recovered and was in
the mail. She took the situation by the horns and went to management and smoothed everything out.... until yesterday that is.... first- she told me to do nothing i.e. pay anything on my bill, until she got back in touch with me .... she cautioned this could take several weeks but that the charges applied to my account were serious and needed to be resolved before anything else transpires on the account... well yesterday tried to log onto
my at&t and check status and was still locked out so I placed a call to inquire..... get this .... its weird ... and i see why they would feel this way....
but while i'm on the phone i get a call from a young kid with latino or spanish accent indicating that he was terribly sorry but about two months ago
he received a package for me in the mail and it was a phone.... I was like theres the missing phone right.... well i told him i was on the way and
about ninety miles later and couple hours of trying to decipher his location I found him and recovered the device.... refurbished white one xl with 1.85 1.09 hboot... so i called back to try and locate my lady helping me and got customer service so i told them what had just transpired and i needed to be transferred to that dept... well she would only say that i needed to return the phone to closest location immediately...so i hung up...
got distracted as usual trying to run two businesses and buy another.... just four kids four dogs and a cat on a rainy day and it didnt happen...but i felt i needed to communicate with warranty dept... so anyway i woke up yesterday and my phone is cut off ....now this is not good for me trying to deal with banks for funding on a new business venture and kids and all. So infuriated i proceed to the local store with there phone and after a two hour ordeal with local manager and his support system we come up with i need to return the phone and sometime on or around the 1-17-13 everything will clear out and i can restore my service... well i blew up and told them to just close my accounts.. that was not acceptable...
Anyway the deal is although there way too expensive (my bill is never less than $250 , there still in my experience hands down the best...at least in this area.... and until now every issue i have they more than handle the situation... But i dont appreciate being treated like a criminal stealing a phone when i got up and went out of my way to recover there device. I had no responsibility to this device and had been cleared a month ago by the warranty dept who had confirmed by tracing the device that i never received it..... I also really dont appreciate my phone being turned off on a moments notice when i have done nothing but what i was instructed to do by there management.....
so im at a huge loss today on what to do ....
1- flash both devices to Straight Talk...?
2- send device back? and wait a week to be exhonerated of these charges and restored?
3- call attorney general and file complaint? hire lawyer with money i dont have?
4- do i have rights ? no rights?
I'm really getting sick of big corporations just steam rolling over the little guy.....ive already had a debacle earlier this year with sprint/google nexus that has all but put me out of business... and mother google is becoming the worst ally of a small biz owner ive ever seen ....between adwords and adsense....and there phone i'm in tight spot.....
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated........
Joe Adams
well first off team one X is a GSM device therefore it cannot be flashed however you can obtain an unlock code so you can use a straight talk sim card. Or you could even buy an AT&T compatible SIM from straight talk which does not require an unlock code. Secondly I would talk to supervisor or a store Manager and see if they can help you and your situation.
But whatever you choose best of luck to you on a second note if you get a straight talk sim you know you may get the error mm 6 device not authorized in which case means AT&T has your device on the lost or stolen blacklist

thanks
yea well im sending back one of the devices.... so hopefully they wont do that to the other one... im unlocked and rooted on one and about to unlock and root the other one and going to nearest straight talk... i cant go without a phone .... F atat

AT&T are a bunch of thieves. Can't wait to leave myself! You might want to speak with your attorney.

if you want to go to straight talk check out their website for GSM BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) @ straighttalksim.com and make sure you choose the AT&T Compatible SIM, You get the same coverage because it uses att towers, for a fraction of the price, however i dont know if they offer LTE yet or not so you may want to do some research on different APN Configurations and what not.
A Word about Unlocked just remember that the bootloader unlock and a Network Unlock are 2 different things, where you need the bootloader unlock to be able to use custom roms, firmware, and radios. You will need a network unlock to be able to use the device on another network that does not operate on att towers, some examples are T-Mobile, SIMple Mobile, Vodaphone, etc, etc

[Q] Nexus 5 and warranty issues with rooting

Hi!
So I already asked this on the offical Nexus forums, but I thought this question might actually fit much better here.
I'm planning on buying Nexus 5 from my mobile network operator EMT wich is a local operator in Estonia. I'm sure I will at some point root the phone and install custom ROM on it so is this going to void warranty? As I read if the phone isn't bought directly from Google they aren't responsible for warranty so I guess then it's going to local LG service center. So does LG have a problem with rooting and custom ROMs?
A while back I bought HTC One X from EMT(local mobile network operator), so of course as I went home first thing I did was root my phone and install a custom ROM. Then I noticed the phone had a defect, the screen wasn't properly attatched to rest of the case, it was loose and it moved if you pushed on it. The defect wasn't apparent right away because the part where it was loose was on the left side so if you held the phone in your right hand or didn't use any force it was hardly noticeable. Anyway I relocked the phone and restored the phone closest to original state as possible, then I took the phone back after few days and they sent it to closest HTC service center wich was in Latvia, there isn't one in Estonia. After two weeks we got a mail that they were not going to repair it because I had installed "illegal software" on the phone that voids warranty. So I read through the warranty agreement, agreement said that it only covers hardware issues and not software. I didn't find anything in the agreement that says rooting the phone wasn't allowed and would void the warranty. So after that I went to costumer protection board and told them my story, after 3 months of bureaucracy and meetings they agreed that I didn't violate warranty agreement and decided that the phone has to be fixed, everyone agreed on it, even EMT my mobile operator, but HTC refused to fix the phone so EMT gave up and paid for the phone repairs.
So does anyone have experiences with Nexus 5 warranty and issues that might rise from rooting the phone and installing custom ROM. I don't mean if I brick the phone myself, but if similar problem arises that I had with my HTC One X that it's is clearly a factory defect.
Thank you!

You have a Nexus 5. This isn't a Samsung device or anything of the sort.
Keep in mind that warranty only covers MANUFACTURING defects, not wear and tear damage/defects. Attempting to claim warranty for anything other than manufacturing defects would be fraud.
If you bought from the Play Store, Google will still (unofficially, but they'll do it) accept an RMA claim regardless software state, if its a legitimate manufacturing defect.
If you bought it from elsewhere (and its a legitimate manufacturing defect), simply flash stock if you aren't already on it, relock the bootloader and reset the tamper flag (with a root app lol), then tap on unroot in SuperSU. There is nothing else that shows any sign of possible modification.
If the device doesn't boot at all then the software state is irrelevant as it can't be accessed in the first place.

If you are rooting, you must accept consequences. You must be aware, that rooting is something that is not supposed to be done. That's why manufacturers do lock bootloaders.
Anyway. As you know, you can allways unroot, flash stock and relock bootloader. I don't know what you mean "as close as possible" because I'm not familiar with HTC. I did it with my Nexus 4 here in Slovenia and they did repair it without any question. The same story was also with my XperiaS and all other SE phones which I did a modifications on. But, for example, I use root for deleting stock apps, using Titanium Backup and that's it. I never use modificiated kernels or doing over and underclock CPU.
So, choise is yours.
