Hey guys I was trying to root, and I messed up (stuck on logo screen) so I searched around was able to go back to default 1.0 rom, but the issue is I havent gotten an ota yet and I dont thing u can check for a software update on 1.0? I've tried it manually and it says update done I restart but i'm still on 1.0? I changed the spl and radio before all this , and when I changed the spl my issues first began , am not sure which spl I used, but all I want is to get upt o cupcake or donut, thanks
Can you please post the info in Settings > About phone and boot in to the SPL (power+camera) and post what it says there.
Also this should be in Q&A not development.

Ok well, if you want to root, follow this root guide and follow the "Rooting your RC29 or lower phone" part.
Download AnyCut and create a new shortcut called Device Info and in Requested build type search for signed-kila-ota-14721.2cf0eca0.zip bc I'm doing this right now and that's the upgrade that's downloading for me. I'm at RC29 from the DREAMIMG.nbh file.

you would want to update to RC33 then to CRC1 which is the newest cupcake update. but i would just download RC29 as stated in above post and then follow the root guide as also referred to above
Start asking your questions in the right sub-forum (Q&A) (Theme) or even in (General), or simply search.......Final result will be a ban for you up too 3 days.

i know this is hard but try to read carefully and follow ALL of my instructions.
FIRST click here
SECOND rename the file you just downloaded to "update.zip" obviously without the quotes
THIRD put the update.zip on your sdcard, do not place it in any folders
FOUTH reboot your phone into recovery mode by pressing home and power at the same time
FIFTH hit alt+s on the recovery screen and it will put the new update on your phone
SIXTH reboot
hi, this is my first post on xda-developer and i need some help
my g1 currently does not have a data plan (i use wifi) and running RC 33.
since rooting requires the phone to be downgraded into stock RC 29 this require activation g1 again and i cant do that since i dont have a data plan.
is there a way i can still root without reactivating my phone (i dont care about a wipe just i cant activate it again)

any of the builds based off the ADP release should let you skip registration... a feature of the ADP from the start

so what builds are based off the adp relase sorry im not very good with these kinds of things and i have a t-mobile g1 would an adp build work for mine too?

all of the current cupcake mods are built off ADP... it says so in their title..... try at least looking before asking.....
yes once it is rooted your phone will take ADP firmware or any version of RC firmware...

Doesn't skipping registration make the phone unstable?

so can i just download a build and put it on my phone while i have an unrooted RC 33 or do i have to obtain root first then download the build
Ok so I followed everything in the Bible guides.
I correctly rooted my phone with hard spl and recover.img using the guide in the bible
I partitioned my SD card with Fat32 ext3 and linux swap
then i successfully flashed the newest radio and flashed the newest death spl
Then i flashed with

and now my G1 it has stuck in the new HTC quietly brilliant screen which ive never seen for about 45 minutes.

So I did the full wipe again and its still stuck in that screen...
remove the battery and start again-->> wipe data, wipe EXT2, repair sd, upgrade ext2 to ext3 then to EXT4
flash and if you know how to use adb do:
adb logcat
and keep watching till the activity stops, do not touch the phone till no activity
I know this rom is big and it will take a bit to install (20-25 min)
Please do not post new non-development related threads in the development sub forum.
Also, you could try asking again in that thread. They would know the best out of everyone else in XDA.

At the cyanogenmod site I found this build number is unrootable.But I root it ,I guess so.Cause I used Universal Androot and it said rooted.

I flashed amonRA's recovery and It appears when I press home button during boot.Problem is my radio is actally the newest version i.e 3.22.26.17.Do I need to flash the radio again to do the dangerSPL?Cyanogenmod site shows how to upgrade Rogers G1 but not from the latest upgrade from the Rogers.I can not flash radio without using fastboot from my computer I guess because AmonRA's recovery mode does not show the .img file that Radio has.So can I skip it and go for DangerSPL?

yes, damn rogers won't let me connect to their data access and the HTC waiver thing is not working. FML. They even look at your build number and version number, so with the new radio you still can't get the data back....

build number and version number isn't that easy enough to fix just change in build.prop lol or..... I could be wrong xD

btw I'm running the official 2.2.1 OTA from ezterry with the new radio and spl. 35~45MB of free ram haha

I see alot of things talking about updating but like the cyanogen I do not think I can use because of how I rooted it. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

Shouldn't matter how you got root, you should be able to flash just about anything. Just make sure your storage card is set up right for the rom your flashing. What kind of recovery do you have? Nandroid is your friend.
with test-keys and your radio, you may flash an android 1.6. i don`t know what SPL are you using but without DangerSpl you will not have android 2.1 or 2.2 on your phone. your radio (2.22.19.26I) is compatible with it. you may flash danger spl without any problems. then you may flash >android 2.1. please read about it on this forum. and also read about an recent recovery image (i use amon_ra170).
i hope you`ll read my "answer" fast. i don`t know how much your post will be around. there were many other post just like yours.

don`t read just the original post. read`em all. they are pretty old and some methods you will find`em on last pages

You still on a 1.5 firmware? Well I think it's time for you to upgrade. If you want to install any of the newer froyo ROMS you will need DangerSPL. I also recommend to upgrade your recovery to the latest Amon_ra (1.7). Use instructions found at "http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Dream:_DangerSPL" to upgrade recovery and SPL. Since you have radio 2.22.19.26I you don't need to upgrade that. But you need to read very CAREFUL the instruction because upgrading the SPL could BRICK your phone. After upgrading your SPL you can without fear install any ROM you want without any fear of bricking your phone. I strongly recommend the cyanogen ROMS.
