*-a bootloop crash course and trouble shooting guide-*

I understand that new people dont really know much about hero, and that is alright. They will learn to search and figure things out on their own, but i am a little frustrated with seeing this constantly in the hero ROM threads. " i am stuck in a bootloop, my phone stays on the htc screen"
THIS IS NOT A BOOTLOOP! A bootloop is when you see the hero with the little green android and then the HTC "flashing" logo. I will post a video of a bootloop in little bit, but in the meantime here are a few ways to fix a bootloop.

1) wipe phone and wipe ext and reflash.
2) check to make sure you are running a PVT board. Do the three finger salute, boot holding the green button, menu, and the red button. At the top of the screen that shows up it will either say PVT or DVT.
3) redownload the .zip file for the rom you are trying to flash. Sometimes you may get a corrupt download or the transfer from computer to sd may go bad. A fresh download may help.
4) reformat your sd and recreate all partiitions usingparted in cyanogens 1.4 recovery image. It is one of the easiest ways to do things if you are not running linux.
5) and last but not least, if all else fails just go back to a stable cyan build or jf build.
Hope this helps everyone and cuts down on the questions junking up threads. I will bump this every now and then unless it gets stickied. Also expect edits to this for other questions that get asked.

Recovery Help Please!

Hey guys, today i attempted to root my HTC MAGIC 32A, and install KingKlick's 2.1 Eclair with HTC Sense for Magic v1.1. The rooting went fine, and i partitioned the sd card using the recovery tool (I followed this guide and used the downloads in that: www~theunlockr~com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/) for some reason, the device wont boot, and i tried wiping and reinstalling the update rom, with no success, it just stalls at the boot screen. Now i see that i did make the mistake of not updating my radio, which is at 3.22~ something, and im not sure my sd card was CAT 6. so i dont know what to do know. I can still access the recovery root menu , and was wondering what is the next step from here, or how do i return to the stock 1.5 cupcake firmware.
Anybody's insight is greatly appreciated

HELP! I cant root my mytouch3g!

I am trying to root my mytouch and I cannot get it to work. I tried the goldcard method and it will not come up with the serial number when i try to pull it up in the cmd prompt under adb devices. IVe been trying for a couple hours looking at all these threads and nothing is working please help!

It would be very helpful to specify your exact model of the MT3G as well as the information displayed on the FastBoot screen.

Its the mytouch 3g(not 1.2 or fender edition)

What SPL are you trying to flash, the 0006 is a perfected SPL, so you'd need to downgrade to say a 2005 Engineering SPL.
By the way, when it comes to goldcards its important to know that not all SD cards are compatible, if one fails to mount after the hex process, then you may just have to try a different brand/model of SD cards. (Kinda like how I would have used my 1GB as a gold card, but it wouldn't work, instead had to use my Sandisk 4GB).
Also what threads/procedures have you been trying to follow thus far?

Honestly I have no idea how to downgrade the SPL, I was looking at every post to crate the goldcard and None of them are working for me. Im not even getting to the point of where i can do any hex editing. It will detect the device under the fastboot through command prompt, but when i try to make sure I get the serial number under adb devices it will not work.

Hrm refrain from trying anything til I find a resource link. You may just need to have a single guide from scratch.
Which android is on the device btw (1.5, 1.6?)

I have the same SPL and had no problems rooting using the 1.5 downgrade method then flashing the recovery image.
There's a pretty good how to thread that has all steps from downgrading to cupcake to loading a new rom.
Only thing I'd change is I'd use the recovery in my sig.

I was able to get the recovery and everything loaded. I am trying to load a new rom and once it gets past the flash screen it seems to keep like rebooting i guess would be the way to describe it? do you have any recommendations for a 32b rom? I was looking for one with at least 2.0 and id like to have sense on there.

I prefer superd, but am currently using Blue Magic, both can be found in the G1 dev forum. Eclair will be laggy since there's no hardware acceleration yet, and sense will kill your ram.
I just use the roms in G1 because they mostly work on 32b, and most roms in the magic dev forum are 32a.

I wont suggest any 2.1 eclair/sense rom as of now. but I'd say this eclair rom is super nice http://www.mediafire.com/?tzjwo12nzky or jsut wait a couple days maybe less and it will be perfected for now I suggest this rom as it is fast and easy to use load up

Need help to flash my HTC Dream

Hey guys,
I have been following these forums for quite some time and finally I have decided to join.
The problem I have is as follows;
I own a HTC Dream that runs on Android 1.5 and everything (recovery, radio, SPL) is just as I got it. Now, I live in South Africa and I know what I have to do to flash the recovery, rom etc. However I cannot do this. There are two things that I have tried:
1) The normal guide from the Cyanogen wiki. The first step to downgrade to RC7 or RC29 is where I get the problem. My HTC loads the dreaimg.nbh and then it tells me that I cannot update as I have the "wrond device id". This is after trying both RC versions. I assume this is because I have a South African G1.
2) I used the instant root application to root my HTC successfully. Then I try to load a new recovey image (CM 1.4, Amon Ra etc). It flashes the recovery but when restarting and trying to run recovery it, it just doesn't load. It freezes with the HTC Dream logo. I have flashed my recovery backup again.
Can someone please help me? I really want to try some custom roms. I would really appreciate any advice or info that might help me.

At the cyanogenmod site I found this build number is unrootable.But I root it ,I guess so.Cause I used Universal Androot and it said rooted.
I Hold [Camera] while your phone is booting. On the top line, I saw S-ON.That means I can not use fastboot from my computer to flash rom.It shows as follows:

I flashed amonRA's recovery and It appears when I press home button during boot.Problem is my radio is actally the newest version i.e 3.22.26.17.Do I need to flash the radio again to do the dangerSPL?Cyanogenmod site shows how to upgrade Rogers G1 but not from the latest upgrade from the Rogers.I can not flash radio without using fastboot from my computer I guess because AmonRA's recovery mode does not show the .img file that Radio has.So can I skip it and go for DangerSPL?
I know this thread is pretty big.Its my problem but I will be highly pleased if some one comes ahead to help me.I just dont want to make it a BRICK.If any one know easy way to upgrade it to Android 2.1 please help.

Is Rogers still being anal on the radio version right now?

yes, damn rogers won't let me connect to their data access and the HTC waiver thing is not working. FML. They even look at your build number and version number, so with the new radio you still can't get the data back....

build number and version number isn't that easy enough to fix just change in build.prop lol or..... I could be wrong xD

lol screw them~they said they will fix it before Tuesday. I hope they are not lying...
btw I'm running the official 2.2.1 OTA from ezterry with the new radio and spl. 35~45MB of free ram haha
