ok since there are 5 threads right now on the first page about how to do it and there shouldn't be, this is what you do, i will not link anything to anything because you should be able to find everything pretty easily(they are all stickies)
so all of you that messed something up on your phone and need to get it back into warranty this is how, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
NOTE: if you have flashed a custom splash screen to splash2 then you will need to erase that before step one with this code
plug phone into usb in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot erase splash2
After that you will have only one splash screen and when you flash the .nbh you will be fine
1. Get the original SPL for your phone, get it here
2. Rename it to update.zip and copy it to your sd card. /sdcard
3. Download the DREAIMG.nbh from here.
4. Place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card. /sdcard
5. Go into your phones recovery. [Hold the home & power button]
6. Push Alt+S on your G1 to flash it with update.zip
7. After it does its thing, gettig back to your home screen.
4. Start phone in bootloader. [Hold camera+power button]
5. Hit power to start the update DO NOT INTERRUPT!! i can not stress this enough.
6. Click on the action button(track ball) and your phone will reboot.
7. YOU NOW HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE, it will update on it's own in a little bit, or *Settings>About phone>System Updates*
MODS PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU TO STICKY THIS POST OR AT LEAST THIS ONE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364
so that people can stop posting: how can i unroot my phone or can i revert back to stock firmware like theres not 10 different posts about it.
Mods sticky
Hey man you got my vote it was drivin me insane tryin to find this and thank you!!! Also, just to amke sure that it worked, what is it supposed to say on "About Phone". Thank you man
Just wanted to add one point - I followed this guide, but there's one bit that might not be obvious.
DREAIMG.nbh will restore your phone *mostly* to stock. There's one thing it won't change - the second splash image. If you've changed your splash images, you might want to restore them to stock separately before following these instructions.
Wouldn't be an issue for most users, but in my case the keyboard bit the dust and I had to do a return, and once I set it back to stock I couldn't re-root (and was left returning the phone with a custom second splash image).
i followed all of these steps and as it was applying the dreamimg rc29 for me it said failure... what do i try now? it seems that now my phone will only boot to the multi-colored screen and everytime i try to apply the update it fails about 3/4th of the way through... my phone doesnt work... any thoughts on how to fix this?
found the problem, sorry for my ignorance i didnt format the card completely so there were other files in the root and all i did was reformat and just copy the nbh file back over and it worked just fine sorry guys
one question...do i have to find the stock rc30 and rc33 to update also?? aren's there somethings required to update to cupcake? (like radio??)

you don't need to find the RC30 or RC33 files because when you have the stock RC29 your phone will update on it's own after a few hours. the only thing needed to upgrade to cupcake is the cupcake image. the radio is a choice and you ocan choose not to flash it. i still use the original radio that came on the phone with RC30 simply because i have been too lazy to get the latest radios
bump. good info

I rooted my fone for the first time today and played around. In the end I decided to unroot, because I need steeel and chompsms too much.
I went back to RC7 (my phone was previously RC9 before I rooted). How long should I expect to wait before my G1 auto-updates?
Thanks!
this should be a sticky... thanx
the greatest thing about the thread? well since making it i have only seen two people post that they need to unroot their phone and don'w know how. woo hoo
how long does it usually take to upgrade on its own? its been over 2 hours now and nothing..
its been over 24 hours since ii brought mine back to "stock" and i still havent received the update, what the f is going on? is this normal? sorry but im a newb.
same here I am back to the orignal RC29 but have not received any OTA like RC33???
to all of you that haven't recieved an update yet, there is an option in settings that will allow you to check for updates. or download anycut and create a shortcut. if you do not know how to follow the instructions in this thread you probably shouldn't have rooted your phone. i have reciueved many PM's about how to do this and as much as i am willing to help you, i expect you to have SOME common sense, if you do not i will not help
sorry man, didn't mean to piss you off, i stated im a newbie, i have the firm belief that nobody learns unless they try it themselves, albeit some help from others never hurts, + the version checker is on rc33, not rc29, hence i cannot take that route, if not i already would have. i guess ill simply continue to wait, phone works fine, just does not load any apps that have to be paid for on marketplace, i work for t-mobile, so im hoping that they may have stopped ota's of rc33 since we are launching 1.5 soon. quick question for those who know, is the build number supposed to be TC4-RC29 115247? this is the one i have. Thanks man!
+ I followed your instructions to a t. and have the classic "rainbow" android boot screen.
What happend to the sticky?? I culd have sworn this was stick yesterday.. PS thanks for this thread as i had to unroot my first g1 now i might have to do my second one .. argg..
Alternate way to revert to stock firmware without waiting for update
Hello,
This is my first post. I have been using an alternate way that I figured out to return to stock. This also works when you try to install an official update and it rejects the package due to invalid keys or device checks. You MUST already have root on your phone for this to work.
1) download official firmware image (whatever version you want)
2) extract recovery image from package to root of SD card
3) rename downloaded package to update.zip and place in root of SD card
3) reflash recovery image from terminal on rooted g1
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard flash_image recovery recovery.img
cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img
4) Restart phone in recovery mode and proceed with update
5)Profit! Well, stock g1 without having to flash to RC29 and wait for an update.
I feel this is a more straightfoward way to flash back to stock. YMMV.
Hey guys I was trying to root, and I messed up (stuck on logo screen) so I searched around was able to go back to default 1.0 rom, but the issue is I havent gotten an ota yet and I dont thing u can check for a software update on 1.0? I've tried it manually and it says update done I restart but i'm still on 1.0? I changed the spl and radio before all this , and when I changed the spl my issues first began , am not sure which spl I used, but all I want is to get upt o cupcake or donut, thanks
Can you please post the info in Settings > About phone and boot in to the SPL (power+camera) and post what it says there.
Also this should be in Q&A not development.

Ok well, if you want to root, follow this root guide and follow the "Rooting your RC29 or lower phone" part.
Download AnyCut and create a new shortcut called Device Info and in Requested build type search for signed-kila-ota-14721.2cf0eca0.zip bc I'm doing this right now and that's the upgrade that's downloading for me. I'm at RC29 from the DREAMIMG.nbh file.

you would want to update to RC33 then to CRC1 which is the newest cupcake update. but i would just download RC29 as stated in above post and then follow the root guide as also referred to above
Start asking your questions in the right sub-forum (Q&A) (Theme) or even in (General), or simply search.......Final result will be a ban for you up too 3 days.

Thread Trashed!!
I am really confused to upgrade my device.Let give you some technical info:
Model number
HTC Dream
Firmware version
1.5
Baseband version
62.59s.20.23U_3.22.26.17
Kernel Version
2.6.27-d5acf552
[email protected] #12
Build number
1.89.631.1 146733 CL#94714 release keys
At the cyanogenmod site I found this build number is unrootable. But I root it ,I guess so.Cause I used Universal Androot and it said rooted.
I Hold [Camera] while your phone is booting. On the top line, I saw S-ON.That means I can not use fastboot from my computer to flash rom.It shows as follows:
DREAM PVT 32B SHIP S-ON d
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (DREA21000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-3.22.26.17
Jun 2 2009,21:33:16
HBOOT
<SEND> FastBoot Mode
I flashed amonRA's recovery and It appears when I press home button during boot.Problem is my radio is actally the newest version i.e 3.22.26.17.Do I need to flash the radio again to do the dangerSPL?Cyanogenmod site shows how to upgrade Rogers G1 but not from the latest upgrade from the Rogers.I can not flash radio without using fastboot from my computer I guess because AmonRA's recovery mode does not show the .img file that Radio has.So can I skip it and go for DangerSPL?
I know this thread is pretty big.Its my problem but I will be highly pleased if some one comes ahead to help me.I just dont want to make it a BRICK.If any one know easy way to upgrade it to Android 2.1 please help.
I just want to upgrade to install apps on the sdcard.
Wrong forum
1) nandroid
2) wipe data and cache
3) download cyanogenmod 6 for dream sapphire
4) download cyanogenmod 6 EB1 port for dream sapphire
5) flash the 2 zip files in recovery
6) reboot
7) cyanogenmod settings, find application storage location. set to external.
(this is going to suck actually)
Is Rogers still being anal on the radio version right now?
yes, damn rogers won't let me connect to their data access and the HTC waiver thing is not working. FML. They even look at your build number and version number, so with the new radio you still can't get the data back....

hi, i tried update my G1 rom to android 2.1 and the thread i read told me i needed to downgrade my radio...so i did (so i thought)
i used the sd card and after it updated the rom says on phone info 0.5
now i cant seem to flash any rom at all to it. it always says failed.
can any1 give me a step by step guide how to flash it to update.and what software i need.
SD card or USB
thanks in advance.
[email protected]
and how is it ?
try flash the original nbh file from fastboot.
follow http://android.lucidrem.us/files/howto-root.txt
those files at least we know that are good. it will put android 1.0 and then flash the original firmware until android 1.5 or 1.6. at that point you will can root your phone with universal androot and then follow another tutorial.
i don`t really understand what you have there (or what do you want to do) but i hope that will help.
Please please can some one give me some advice or guidence on upgrading this phone.
Some time ago i tried many times to upgrade my HTC Hero GSM phone to a more modern OS. At that time every thing i tried failed, so now im trying again, step by step.
I have followed the
HTC Hero (GSM): Full Update Guide, as far as i know, to the letter.
Im trying to install Amon_Ra's Recovery
At the last command of
adb shell /data/local/flash_image recovery /data/local/recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img
And i get an error message of
[1] Illegal instruction /data/local/flas...
I hope i have not done some thing stupid as putting the files i the wrong location, which is C:\ android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
the firmware version is 2.1 update1
I have spent hours and hours on this in the past, and this is my last chance before i give it up as a bad job!
With many thanks in advance,
Deedee.
Hi
I am also having a problem updating my HTC Hero GSM from 2.1 to 2.2 so i can get aps2SD to work. My phone is already rooted
Information about Phone
ClockWorKMOD: 2.0.1.3
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel: 2.6.29-063c4d24 [email protected]#1
Build: 3.32.405.2 CL191507 release keys
Software: 3.32.405.2
Browser: webkit3.1
what i did
I downloaded the following file FROYO_2.2.1_Final_Android_Stock.zip
I renamed it update.zip
I did a nandroid backup
I copied update.zip to root of SD card
I applied update.zip
It went through successfully
Then after i reboot
I get the word 'android' stuck on screen
I restored my nandroid backup
Then i tried the same process with Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.8.zip
now the phone is stuck at 'HERO' on the screen
Does anyone know where the OTA zip files are located after they are downloaded?
