ok so I rooted my phone forever ago. Using the way that JesusFreak posted. I now want to update my phone since it is still on firmware 1.5. I see alot of things talking about updating but like the cyanogen I do not think I can use because of how I rooted it. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.
Also I do not know if this info is important or not but
Model # -android dev phone 1
baseband version- 62.50s.20.17th_2.22.19.26I
kernel version- 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf

Shouldn't matter how you got root, you should be able to flash just about anything. Just make sure your storage card is set up right for the rom your flashing. What kind of recovery do you have? Nandroid is your friend.
with test-keys and your radio, you may flash an android 1.6. i don`t know what SPL are you using but without DangerSpl you will not have android 2.1 or 2.2 on your phone. your radio (2.22.19.26I) is compatible with it. you may flash danger spl without any problems. then you may flash >android 2.1. please read about it on this forum. and also read about an recent recovery image (i use amon_ra170).
i hope you`ll read my "answer" fast. i don`t know how much your post will be around. there were many other post just like yours.
take a look on those 2 posts:
how to root ...
how to unroot and get it stock
don`t read just the original post. read`em all. they are pretty old and some methods you will find`em on last pages
if there are any questions ...
You still on a 1.5 firmware? Well I think it's time for you to upgrade. If you want to install any of the newer froyo ROMS you will need DangerSPL. I also recommend to upgrade your recovery to the latest Amon_ra (1.7). Use instructions found at "http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Dream:_DangerSPL" to upgrade recovery and SPL. Since you have radio 2.22.19.26I you don't need to upgrade that. But you need to read very CAREFUL the instruction because upgrading the SPL could BRICK your phone. After upgrading your SPL you can without fear install any ROM you want without any fear of bricking your phone. I strongly recommend the cyanogen ROMS.
Many Thanks for bringing up this question i also had been stucked with Jesus Freak recovery and 1.6 of Android HAHA!! such a oldie i am, going to try CM7.

Hi,
Rogers released new dream rom with a radio update.
We have 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I now
This new is:
62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17.
Anyone able to get it out so we can flash it on cyan latest mod rom?
Dont know exact radio version but go here for rom:
http://www.htc.com/ca/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=269&cat=2&dl_id=654
Thanks again.
the whole dump is an nbh file that has to be flashed from the sd. Anybody know how to crack it open?
I bet it contains other fixes as well! The message on Twitter said that they fixed some bugs!

I remember back when I had my Wizard, there was a tool to pick apart nbh images and reassemble them. But this was for Windows Mobile, a completely different platform. Perhaps the basic file formats are similar?
Use qmat. It can unpack nbhs.
Mmmm, new radio.......yummy.....I like new stuff.....wait if it is a new radio, will this be able to work for us, how to we know that this won't jeprodize us with the danger spl. I know I ain't gonna be the first to try this

my thoughts exactly...took enough balls to go for the danger SPL in the first place.
my current radio works fine, so I am not going to mess.
then again...never say never. thats what XDA is all about
Well we know the radio calls the spl and that the old radio was not able to call the hayruko spl which cause way too many paperweights so how will we know if this radio will also call it, we can assume that since it is an update would but the word assume means to make an ass out of you and me, so is there any way that this can be checked or tested numerous times before we possibly get another wave of bricks and without a cupcake over the air excuse to fall back on. Just my thoughts.
Never change a running system my father tells. Me all the time.. ;-)
Yeah but I like new stuff, I got so used to it feeling like christmas around with new stuff all the time that I got spoiled. I have had this radio and spl for 3 months now and I am bored off it. I demand something new that could cause some new widespread havoc, can't we get something that causes a self destruct if installed incorrectly, kinda jealous of those iphone 3gs users and their exploding batteries, I want something that explodes and catches fire. I demand a refund what am I paying you dev for, wait I don't pay you, nevermind forget this whole post
P.s. I am just playing
rogers is DREA210
we have mostly DREA100/110
i dont think we r able to flash it...
Hardware is identical.
So it should work OK.
Just give me radio Rom only and i will flash it asap.
drea110 here.
You can go back to default by flashing DREAIMG.nbh and then re-flash with this Rom and all will be OK.BUT YOU WILL LOOSE ROOT!
And that is why i didn't flash it yet
Am waiting for someone to give a proper radio Rom to flash.
There will always be a question about whether any new radio image (IPL) that ships will be compatible with a hacked SPL or other SPL not intended for the specific device. This new IPL could very well brick every device it is installed on when mixed with the deathSPL. I very strongly suggest that nobody tries this IPL unless they switch back to their STOCK SPL. Now that HTC has so kindly provided the kernel source needed to build custom kernels that will boot on a stock dream as provided to rogers, there is absolutely NO NEED to continue using the deathSPL phone killer.
Hey, does this nbh file carry the SPL? (it must, doesn't it?)
If it does, then you could maybe just install this and reroot.
Yes it contains spl and radio rom and os rom on it so it will put back everything on stock.
But you will loose root and as of now there is no way to root on 1.5 version.. yet.
if there is i would flash it.
Re-root leave radio and check spl version.
if newer than deathspl would leave it and flash cyanogen 4.0.4.
If not reflash haykuro new hacked spl back and then wipe and flash cyanogen 4.0.4.
And am back in bussiness with new radio and/or spl.
But rooting on 1.5 cupcake needed to do that so...

Really REALLY WRONG!
As I rank your knowledge about SPLs,Radios and android itself with this post, you shouldn't flash this, except if you wouldn't cry and open up a thread "My G1 is dead" ;-)

And you base that on what?
1.5 is rootable - look for "goldcard"
Second: This update has a different SPL - It's not an Engineering SPL.
It replaces your recovery.
And I think these Recovery and ROM wouldn't boot on a regular T-Mobile G1, because it has a different radio chip.
It's very risky to flash this, because it's from a different phone.
It's NOT the same hardware!

I hope this is not a very stupid question, but why would you need a goldcard. Can't you just revert to RC29 and root you device the old and easy way?

Of course i didn't expect it to be engineering spl, this rom are made of normal ppl to use not experiment so normal spl would be on it but maybe the same as g1 or newer.
rogers only modification was on UMTS 850 / 1900 bands the normal g1 only supports UMTS 1700 / 2100 but rogers g1 users did flash radio rom from g1 vanilla see hardspl or even haykuro's hacked spl and they work fine so why not the contrary?
After all they keep the same base versions:
We have 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
They have 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17.
If they had: 3.0008 i wouldn't bother smells from miles is not same radio hardware
But as you can see the code is identical to each other, only newer!
The hardware IS the same my friend only they dont have dvt only pvt motherboards and they all be flashed with latest haykuro's spl and radio!
If am wrong the os will load but i wont have cell reception but that is as far as it goes for a brick.
Am 99% this rom will do just fine on any pvt g1 phone out there.
As for goldcard, didnt know there is a way to root on 1.5 please enlighten me.
Is there anything to download to make this happen? ->link
if it is am more than 101% that this rom will go on my phone sweet.
After that i dont know what happens will i be able to flash haykuro spl back or i will have a brick? will it let me flash custom rom?
Over and out.
i know its probably been posted 93578 times before, but i just want to 100% confirm here before i mod my new G1.
my last one, i accidentally installed SPL first before updating the radio, i didnt see any of the warnings before doing so, but now i know...live and learn i guess.
so....my new one, which is RC33, i know how to get it to RC29. ill do that, then root it.
after that, is this the correct process?
i was going to install the haykuro spl. but first, i read that one board wouldnt work, PVT or the other one i cant remember.
mine is PVT.
if thats the correct board, i can update the radio, install haykuro spl, then install the rom? i want Cyanogen, i believe is was 4.0.4, or whatever his latest stable version is. im not even sure ill like it, but thats the one i want to try, my friend runs that same setup (haykuro spl, Cyanogen rom) and he likes it.
also, at what point should i install the latest recovery? after radio update?
i dont wanna brick this phone hahah
thanks for any help and sorry if i asked questions that you guys answer on a daily basis

PVT will work =D congratulations it's not really bricked... but yeah update the radio, then the SPL, then the ROM. the latest stable cyanogen is 4.1.9.2 if you ask me... still considered experimental but it's stable and solid and will probably be the basis for the actual stable 4.2 update...
Hi Guys,
Please excuse this possibly misplaced post (newb alert)
Sometime ago i read as much as i could before embarking on the root/unlock process after this i flashed the recommended radio for the rom at the time and all seemed to be well.
The rom i flashed is LD 2.2.3 & flashed kernel V2.2.9 to go with it. I have been using this since it was done.
I have recently booted to recovery/bootloader and i get an error saying that PD98img isnt/cannot be found etc.
Also whilst looking more carefully at the phones software information-under Settings, i see that my DHD's build number is 1.72.405.3.
This has lead me to believe that i have somewhere deviated from the correct method of this whole process and i am now worried that im not benefitting from this entire thing.
I am happy now to follow the masses up to Lee's GB ROM, but i want the foundations to be correct/ even if just in my head first.
I do NOT remember downgrading at all so this may be where i need to start.
What would help i think is a list of the steps i ought to have taken and perhaps the steps i need to accend to GB.
Please be gentle on me guys.....newb n all
Best Regards
WEz
I don't know that much but, if your radio s-off, and eng s-off and you've installed lee's froyo rom then you're fine.
That message you get in bootloader is normal.
Join the "masses" upto Lee's GB rom it's excellent. -Altho wait until tomorrow as he's making a few touch-ups to v3.1.3

Thanks for the prompt reply EmprtArea,
I did think i had done everything fairly correctly, its just that build No. 1.72.405.3 that completely threw me, from what i have read today in a rush, this number is rootable but shouldnt be able to run another ROM without a downgrade.....i may be getting my wires crossed though. Is there process in particular you recommend i follow for the transition to GB?
I think i have to use an up graded version of CWM dont i? 3.?????
Have you noticed much of an improvement with the GB ROM? I see most people are more than happy with it, forsaking the expected glitches/bugs in a cooked ROM like Lee's
Thanks for your help once again.
Wez
P.S Keep Up The Good Work LeeDrOiD!! A few beers coming from me when i get your GB ROM up n running here
ClockworkMod is able to flash anything when you have it in your phone + S-OFF, so it is not unusual that you do not need to downgrade. Bootloader does not get informed about what has been flashed in ClockworkMod, so the number remains the same.
Ahhhhhhh, that clarifies it totally, thankyou very much for that snippet. Everyday is like a learning curve on XDA, its cool.
Thankyou, both of you. For a moment there i thought id jumped the gun and messed it up.
Thanks
A while back I flashed a rom onto my HTC sensation.
Current Specs:
Android Version- 2.3.4
HTC Sense Version- 3.0
Software Number- Pyramid3Dv8.21 xe
Yet, With all these new releases and roms, I have no idea where to start :/
Currently scared to do anything since I'm afraid to brick my phone.
I'm sorry if this has or been answered somewhere else.
But, Could someone lead me into the right path to upgrading to the new Firmware + what I need to install for the new 3.0.0+ roms?
I will really appreciate it.
Thank you for reading this.
First you require some basic one time steps that you need to do
This is the guide to do those
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Follow the steps carefully.... Also you can do soff if your hboot is <= 1.18 hboot
Chk the guide for steps to see your hboot
Then for installing ICS roms
This is the best guide

thanks for shinz.& mike for there awesome work
I understand about the new stuff in a way
But, What do I do since i'm not updated yet?
Install stock firmware and update regularly then redo the Process?
or is there someway I can Just update without having to redo S-OFF
I believe you can simply flash the 3.32 firmware and then update to the new ICS ROMs. No need to S-OFF again since you're running the older hboot version (that is, I'm assuming you're still running hboot 1.18 or lower since you haven't updated your phone in a while and you're already rooted and stuff).
The second link that ganeshp posted should be all you need to know.

Hi,
It is not clear if you are s-off or not.
Once you are s-off,that will remain no matter what you do(unless you choose to s-on again )
If you are s-off,and you want to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS) then, everything that you need is in THIS THREAD.
Read it carefully, then read it again!
If you still have questions, ask in that thread or here.
Good luck.

first of all check your HBOOT version (from bootloader -> volume down + power)
if its 1.18 or less(this is only required for SOFF ...if you are already SOFF follow the rest of steps from the guide)...then just use my guide(1st link) for basic steps to keep your phone ready...for flashing custom roms
then for ICS you first need to update your firmware...which was awesomely explained on how to do it from the second guide link I've provided....
remember once you've updated you firmware you can not boot into your OLD GB rom as it is not compatible so you need to get the ICS ROM you want to install on your sdcard before doing firmware update so that you can just flash the ROM directly after updating the firmware
that's all you require...(my best suggestion is READ READ READ...until you are crystal clear)
Hey guys,
Sorry to be a noob but I'm completely new to the idea of installing custom ROMs so was wondering if someone wouldn't mind explaing what exactly is involved in installing a custom ROM (bruce2728's CM10 ROM) onto a completely stock HTC Sensation?
So far from everything I've read I need to root and S-OFF my phone as well as unlock the bootloader and back up the stock ROM (for warranty purposes) before I'm able to install a new ROM. Am I missing anything here?
So far I've tried to unlock the bootloader but can't even download the software from htcdev.com because the website keeps logging me out as soon as I log in...
Anyway I've read through a few forums and articles on how the whole process works but I'm finding it very confusing because there seems to be multiple ways of doing each part and the files you seem to need vary depending on exactly which version of the Sensation you have.
Anyway if someone wouldn't mind explaining each step or linking me to somewhere that does I would greatly appreciate it
In terms of which model of Sensation I have, HTC have told me that its an open version handset thats been customized in France if that makes any difference. And here's my current software info:
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense Version: 3.6
Software number: 3.33.401.6
Kernel version: 3.0.16-g31a4fc7 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT

Hi,
There is an huge amount of good information in my sig(☺ A great starting point for all new Sensation owners ☺)
My suggestion would be :
ganesh or kgs for root and s-off
You have 3.33 firmware,so you would then be good to go.
Thanks for the info
So if I follow the steps on this page I will have S-OFF, unlocked the bootloader and rooted my device so all I would have left to do would be to install the actual ROM correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
And if so what is the best way to go about installing the ROM afterwards?
EDIT: After reading through that page again I realized that there seem to be two completely different tools, you can use. Do you have to use both of them or just one?
i.e. could I just use the 'new one click root tool' on my phone while its completely stock then would I be able to install a new ROM on straight after?

Hi,
I gave you 2 guides for you to choose from.
The one you chose is from ganesh, and if you follow all of that, then, that is all you have to do.
Once you are rooted and s-0ff,then,just place the ROM of your choice on the sd card ,choose it in recovery and run it.
I forgot to mention the custom recovery.
In the list of guides I gave you, look for one by joaquinf.
In that thread you will find 3 methods to install 4EXT recovery.
again choose the best method for you and install it.
then, you will be good to go.

hmm it seems you are getting confused with some terms ..ill try to explain them briefly
ROOT: its a feature of ROM ..when you have root ..you can completely control the ROM ..you can remove even system apps (the apps that came by default) and change internal stuff
SOFF: it unlocks the complete internal partition of sensation ..that means you can modify any thing anywhere ...thus you can install custom roms, custom recoveries, bootloader, radio etc etc
HTC-DEV: its a feature provided by HTC ..which unlocks some partitions which are quite enough for installing custom roms and custom recoveries ..but during custom rom installations you need to do couple of extra steps to get it completely working
now ..by default all partitions of internal memory are locked .. thus to ROOT your phone ..we need to have unlocked system partition ..which can be attained by HTC-DEV unlock or SOFF (so the one click root requires either of them as per-requisite)
now if you want to decide what to do ..do check this post
Ok so I started using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
And I got to the point just after where you have to do the wire trick. Now in the cmd screen I just get a message saying "open device manager and check adb and/or fastboot drivers!! Resetting connection....1.....2...." Over and over...
Any ideas as to what I've done wrong? I made sure that the HTC drivers were installed before I started the process
Ahhh crap. After having a look around the forums and on youtube etc as well as trying to install adb through the android SDK and still not having any luck (the ControlBear program ended up freezing aswell) I decided to close the ControlBear program but now whenever I try starting my phone it just loads into a black screen with the menu bar... I hope I haven't completely ruined my phone...
Nevermind, I finally manged to get it S-OFF and rooted
I managed to do a factory reset which enabled me to use my phone properly again so then I restarted the S-OFF process again after rebooting my computer and what do ya know, it works!
Thanks so much guys
Now I just need to work out how to get 4EXT working and then install CM10

Baseband version: 11.76A.3504.00U_11.24A.3504.31_M
Build number: 3.33.401.6 CL391535 release-keys
Browser version: WebKit/534.30

For me, coming from Stock 2.3.3 ROM w/ 2.6... firmware:
I had to Root and S-OFF: Simple enough, I used the Revolutionary tool.
Install a recovery program: Once again, simple enough, you can download ClockworkMod Recovery from the Play Store and it will install it.
IMPORTANT: I originally didn't know I had to update Firmware to a newer one. I tried installing the ROM with 2.6.... and it just bootlooped after language selection. Make sure your firmware is adaquate.
Make a backup (if you want)
Then install the ROM and GApps if needed!
