Hi
I was wondering what's the difference between the different versions of Windows Mobile 6.5 on this forum.
It seems like the one from frauhottelmann (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539553) and fireburned (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3957085) are the major ones, but I'm a bit confused which I should choose.
Thanks in advance.

Their builds are same, so the internal core operating system is same. But since every person has his own preferences, the optional packages, layout (homescreen etc) are different in each and every ROM. So you need to try out both the ROMs and see which one you like more.
Hope it helps.
Thanks

anyone have a version of windows mobile 6 professional? i would like to try it specifically.. anyway.. i really would like the newest possible version of wm6, possibly stock if thats at all possible... i appreciate any and all input here. thanks to everyone
after doing a little bit of research.. we are all apparently running wm6 professional.. it is just referring to the type.. I pulled this from wikipedia {Windows Mobile 6 Standard for Smartphones (phones without touchscreens), Windows Mobile 6 Professional for PDAs with phone functionality (Pocket PC Phone Edition), and Windows Mobile 6 Classic for plain PDAs without cellular radios}. I thought there was a new version because i saw some screenshots that had OneNote in the Office Mobile folder. If anyone has a version of WM6 that was actually released by Microsoft, I would really like to mess around with it. If anyone has any input, its appreciated.
I agree that the new "version" names are a bit misleading.
I was confused too when I first saw professional/classic.
They should've just left it as WM6 and WM6: Phone Edition.
anyone know what the newest version so far is? i wanna try something realllyyy new..
omg omg, You are addicted!
haha.. yes i know its bad
The latest build is 5.2.1413 and only mUn have it..

If you have OneNote 2007 installed on your desktop, it will prompt you if you want to install OneNote Mobile when you sync your device.
Also, I thought that Faria also had build 5.2.1413.

whats the update with this build, that thread has been dead for sometime, is Mun going to release it, he had been working on it, i hope that he didnt get upset or discouraged or something... still i'll sit tight!
Yeah, I'd like to get a copy as well. Good opportunity to see what the cooks have been up to, and spend some time in the kitchen!
I just got an MDA (but I'm still familiar with flashing)... What is the latest, and at the same time, most stable normal (closest thing to what a carrier would release) ROM for it..? Thanks!

I'm not trying to be conceited here, but I do believe my WM6 Business Edition is as close to a factory released ROM as you're going to get. It has very few tweaks on it, but it is very stable and has all of the applications such as MMS, Java, a .pdf reader and PIM Backup. It's pretty much "flash-and-forget".

I downloaded it, but what's the unraring pw? Thanks
Nevermind...
I am looking for the most generic WM6 ROM that has the base and drivers, no tweaks or utilities. Like a retail HTC WM6 rom. Any suggestions? thanks
Also, any idea how to increase earpiece volume on the MDA (currently have XDA WM6 ROM).

NTS Vanilla seems ok, but it is a bit dated and does not have the new WM6 interface.
What do You mean by new WM6 interface?
Did I miss something big lately?
[ Or do You just mean TouchFLO interface? ]

Thats funny actually. You ask for a completely vanilla / stock WM6 rom with no extras. Someone points you to one that is pretty close to as vanilla, and you complain its missing "the new WM6 interface". Sounds to me like you are not wanting a stock rom
If you truely want plain / stock do a search for the Ingenetics rom. Its as basic and bare as they come and pretty much like what is delivered from Microsoft. Yes, its "older" too, but thats because there are no real roms for the Wizard after that one. Newer ones are ports from other devices.
Here's good list of roms from someone around here
http://rapidshare.com/users/IW25NT
The second one down is the latest clean wm6 to my knowledge

Very nice collection.
I would like to first say thanks to you for your painstaking work.
I would request you if you can give me the Original Base Rom which Ingenetics submitted. I have searched a lot but could not get it
hey was just wondering is there any 6.1 roms for the apache. i just saw my friends wing with it i must say it looks sweet. well thx for ur time.
looking for the same thing. wanna get my girlfriend upgraded to it. if anyone has any clue, well, clue us in
Send me 1 too
it was being worked on... not sure what came of it - I know there was a rom released but I believe it has some issues...
discussion about can be found on www.ppcgeeks.com - just search around and you'll run into it
I have WM6 from ppcgeeks' forum on my Apache... had it for a couple of days, now. Love it.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9841&highlight=junk+free
This version doesn't have any 3rd party apps installed & therefore clears up a lot of memory. PIE seems to connect a bit slower, but other than that, it's all improvements. It boots faster, opens programs faster etc...

Hy guys!
Yesterday I tried to install 2 different Manilla ROM's based on WM6.5! (Shifu_V13, Solace_V3.1) Everything worked great except the usability!
Is it possible that the TyTn2 is far too slow to handle Manilla/Wm6.5? Everything is dead slow, program loading/closing, Home.Screen.Scrolling is a lucky punch everytime. When I slide, I only see where I scrolled after loading menu, so no exact scrolling possible!
I already swapped to HTC_Original WM6.1 back, cause everything runs smooth and stable, except the new design, which i would appreciate even more!
Even the Booting is damn slow, stopped approximatly 2 minutes! The Wm6.1 is up in under a minute!
Are there any suggestions or do I have to buy me the HD Touch to experience Manilla/WM6.5?
best regards
Rekoo
Both ROMs you mention are 6.1 and way faster than stock ROMs so i'd say something else was the issue...........
Isn't this usually a matter of getting the right radio for your device?
From what I read is that speed issues are usually solved by trying out another radio.
Both are wm 6.1.
Why dont you try wm 6.5 roms from here...there are very great, fast, and smoothly roms, with chome and manila. (you have to discover the best spl/radio combo for you).
k, sorry my fault!
Is there a rule for the radio's, like the higher the number the better/faster they work? Or is it trail&error what works best with the device?
What are these POLARIS and NIKI Radio's?
Can I also use them or are they only for the newer devices like HD?

It is all trial and error different radio firmware works differently with different roms/spls/ and in different areas. Pick one that works for you.
Go to Ultimate radio thread and read, all radios there are compatible with Kaiser and 6.0 or 6.1 roms. The 6.1 rom radios appear to all be compatible with 6.5 roms.
Polaris and Niki are just the phones that the radios were ripped from.
You will want to post in they're threads regarding this issue and see what the chefs recommend instead of opening a new thread.
while there was not a definitive WinMo 6.5 release, i didnt even consider moving to a 6.5 based ROM, but now that release date is closer, I´ve yet to see a pros and Cons of windows mobile 6.1 vs. winMo6.5.
I´ve a Diamond, so memory use is a concern.
i use manila 2.1 (hopefully 2.5 soon) so windows native dialogues are (nearly) over, and I dont need titanium WinMo6.5 native today UI.
Shall I move to 6.5 or stay with 6.1?
what advantages has a ROM based on 6.5 compared to a 6.1 ROM?
best regards
Amazed by nobody having a view into Win 6.1 vs 6.5!!!
I thought this thread would've actually been more popular... Lol.

I'm not quite sure why you say that's a concern... According to Wikipedia, your Diamond has 192mb RAM (see this page), is that not true...? I'm running WM6.5 on my Elf with only 64mb RAM..

As for M2D, I never really liked it much, so even with WM6.1 I never used it... I've gotten quite attached to the Titanium layout actually.. It's different, but it works well once you're use to it. Keep in mind I can only give you my opinions on upgrading.....
Pros
Easier navigation - Virtually any scrolling window can be 'dragged' up or down by dragging inside the contents instead of the scrollbar, makes it finger-friendly.
Speed - Obviously depending on who's ROM you install, many of them have had the really memory intensive applications and settings removed. This also depends on the device it was intended for; for my little Elf a lot was removed... But it's flying nicely.
PIN code prompt - I know it's minor, but every little bit counts; the PIN code prompt is always on top when the device starts up. With WM6.1 I had to invoke the 'phone' side sometimes just to put my PIN in.
Cons
Selecting files - Because of the tap-and-drag scrolling, you can't drag a selection box around a number of files in a window that scrolls.. If the window contents don't scroll, you can still do this though.
Compatibility - Many of the today screen plugins I used to use have had to be replaced with other apps; the WM6.5 today screen can be set to the old style (WM6.1), but it's your choice.
Other than those, I can't really think of much else that makes WM6.5 better or worse than WM6.1... The rest is really up to you to decide. For me, I'm more than happy with it and I have no intention of going back to 6.1 at all.
you got to try the cooked 6.5 roms to really know the BIG difference.
and you can still go back to 6.1 if you don't like it.

Too true... Try, try, and try again. Then try another one for good measure. Lol. I think I've changed between about 6 different ROMs in the last two weeks. I keep going back to Dsixda's Onyx ROMs though...

Thanks prervious posters for sharing their views.
So the question would be, for a similar ROM tried with each of both cores, and disregarding the user interface preferences :
Is 6.5 lighter than 6.1?
Is 6.5 faster?
Is 6.5 more stable?
If there are three "yes"....i´ll move to 6.5!
If 6.5 is heavier on memory, but more stable and faster.....I´ll check if my device memory and aplication usage allows to move up.
if 6.5 is either slower or less stable....I´ll stay at 6.1 unless i fall in love with titanium UI!

the answer is NO to all three... it's still in BETA so lets just wait for the real thing that will come out on October 6.
Test 6.5 and decide for yourself!
I have 6.5 on my Universal with only 64mb of RAM and I´m quite happy with it, so do not worry and go for it!
If you donñt like it you can always go back

As I said, I'm running WM6.5 on my little Elf without any trouble.. Sure it's not quite as fast as some of the WM6.1 ROMs around here, but it's definitely faster than the standard ROM that came with the phone nearly a year back! Your Diamond should handle it a lot better with the higher amount of RAM available...
Either way, before you do any of that.... Make sure you install HardSPL first!! That way you'll still be able to flash a working ROM again if you find one that doesn't want to start up.
As somebody esle said, its all matter of personal preference. I think 6.5 is a bit sluggish than 6.1, but i cannot go back to using 6.1.

well, the user interface can be a matter of personal preference.
But the slughiness or not of the underlying system is what counts here.
So far I´m used to TF3D and intend to keep there. There are cookers which are tying Manila on top of 6.1, while others are moving to 6.5. Same happens with Mobile Shell.
So, if you are not going to use the new tytanium UI of 6.5, is it worth the upgrade?
B/R
PS: regarding Beta Status of 6.5......IT should be over now. Thats why i´m questioning now, not when initial betas were leaked.
