Which ROM and Radio? Opinions please - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hallo all
I am updating a friend's Raphael tonight.
Which Radio and ROM do you all suggest?
She is with AT&T (so the FUZE) and she is a bare bones kinda gal. Not into the bells and whistles. But she does want a better performing phone.
Thx for any and all of your info!!

Every radio seems to be different for everyone.
I, personally, like the Blackstone radios the best because they seem to give me better call quality than any other radio I've used, and I'm in an Edge only area.
LOTS of people seemed to like the 1.12 leaked AT&T radio, and quite a few people are using the official AT&T update 1.14 radio.
As far as a ROM, try to show her both TF3D and Titanium. Some people like WM6.5 (I'm one of them), while others hate it and prefer WM6.1.
Da_G has a bare-bones version of both. If you do the WM6.1 version, you'll have to install ALL of the HTC cabs yourself if you want TouchFlo and TF3D (Manila).
If you want WM6.5, I've been running RRE v6.3 and its very fast and stable. EnergyROM is also a good series, both 6.5 and 6.1.
So there's a lot of variables you need to figure out before you pick one to flash.
EDIT: Also, after flashing a ROM, remember to hard reset when you get to the "tap the screen..." prompt, this will help eliminate weird bugs that may popup.

I have very little experience with flashed roms and radios so far, so i won't comment on the radio, but for the rom, it sounds from whate everyone is suggesting for newbies go for the EnergyRom 2.0 WWE FINAL rom

use the Da_G basic roms then. just search around a bit.
don't use energyRom for this... they're made to be fast and tend to be slightly unstable.. if you're not a power user, it doesn't do you any good.

Any bricked Kaisers or flashing problems?

I ask because my Hermes currently has "no GSM" and is effectively a wifi PDA now (and even at that is a bit shaky). Now my Hermes was a referb and the issues started gradually, so it my have nothing to do with flashing, still once bitten twice shy!
Just would like some feed back before I go flashing my shiny new beloved Tilt.
Any feedback... comments welcomed.
Thanks....
installed spl on my tilt.
flashed probably 10 different roms so far.
had since release date.
installed a million different apps and configs.
no bricks here.
Good to hear thanks!
Looking at ROMs now... Probably sticking with an AT&T based ROM.
any preferences for AT&T users?

If you just looking for At&t based ROM's there are several to choose from. If you do decide to install one of these ROM's please do a HardSPL. Also if you will also need to upgrade your radio to 1.27.14.09
Depends what you are looking for. These are all At&t builds
Dutty's:Dutty's TouchFlo Rom Beta 2 TILT VERSION
Custel: CUSTEL Series v2.0
XDA:Tilt XDA-Live v 1.2
Here is a link to the radio.

Thanks... I will run HardSPL in just a minute.
I've just downloaded many of those ROMs and my give it a shot a bit later.
I have to say coming from a Hermes this Kaiser is a real sweet machine, even with the official AT&T ROM is runs great! It runs so much better than my Hermes.
Not sure what I think about the touch cube. Afraid it will slowing my Tilt down verses not having it. Maybe I'll try it then decide.

Rom Reviews Anyone?

I have searched already and haven't found reviews of the new cooked and stock roms out there that we all use and love. If your flash happy like myself you would love to here unbiased reviews of the roms and I don't mean whats in the exisiting threads for each rom that have complaints, rants, and flaming. If anyone else would like to jump on this please let me know or just start reviewing the roms yourselves and the mods will hopefully start a sticky for reviews. Thanks and to all the great chefs keep up the good work.
dutty's roms are quite nice. They've got the basics. You'll probably need to install a few things for personal needs, but not too much.
For example, I always install HTC's Task manager. But he took it out since some people liked the WKTask (eww).
I've tried a few random others, and some pack in too many apps
**Edit for links** http://duttythroy.lives-in.eu/
->Current thread for V4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361544
I'd like to be able to stick with a ROM for long enough to be able to do a full review
Agreed, Duttys v4 felt nice but I changed to Q-Mobile because I was having problems with bluetooth on the v4 rom.... After playing around with the Q-Mobile rom I don't actually think that the BT problem was caused by duttys rom.
Q-Mobile is nice and clean but I've had problems installing some stuff, again might not be anything to do with the ROM and it may well be the user and or the cabs at fault
What I'd really like is to try out a WM6.1 rom to see if the new network drivers sort out my wifi problem but Im really unsure as to which is the best, hopefully some people will post their thoughts on 6.1 roms in here.

That sounds fast
Roms depends on user needs Some people like fancy stuff. Like duttys one and some others with dual touch, cube etc.... And some people are professional they want fast, effective. I am in love with sleuth rom. I didnt have to install separate radio, separate java bla blah. Everything working out of the box working fine. Some people have issues like skype and core player. But they are problem with all 6.1 version.
I would of LOVED sleuth's wm 6.1 v3.0 if the audiomanager worked There were a few other small things, such as how to disable threaded sms, without killing the notifications (I didn't really like the threaded smsing, but I got enough smses that if I didn't get a notification it would mean lots of missed smses)
I spent the last 10 hours or so flashing different roms onto my phone, I've went back to Q-mobile 1.2 =/
If you don't mind the threaded sms and don't use audiomanager (I installed mortplayer to compensate) I'd suggest Sleuth's 3.0 6.1 rom.
I've tried just about every rom here and I keep going back to Q-Mobile 1.2.
I love dutty's customizations, but I have to agree that Quentin's are the most polished. I have tried almost all of them and have settled on Quentin's Q-Mobile 1.2 for now (with a lot of my own customizations of course).
Just wait a little bit
All I have to tell you guys is wait and see
Current is Sleuth 3.0 WM6.1
I am using an ATT Tilt version in the US, I have tried many of the current roms (to me some were more well done than I like, Some were not stable or under done) I like 3 roms
WM 6.1 - I like Austinsync's rom and Sleuth 3.0
WM 6.0 - I like Q-Mobile 1.2 (Sorry have not tried any others but the Sleuth version is probably good there too)
Cheers
BR
For now, I'm staying away from the 6.1 roms (I have a feeling that "for now" will change to "right now" once dutty's new one is released) but I've been using dutty's V4 since the day it was released and I love it. It's very fast and has everything you need.
...for now.

Haze,
I would say give Dutty a couple of days, or a week at the most, and he will release his newest flavor. The beta testers have worked really hard to get a perfect ROM to the community. You will be pleasantly surprised at the result. One thing you should know. Dutty has been building a WM6.1 ROM without a phone much like Schap's does which is quite amazing.
why do they both do it without phones? Did their phones break or are they using other ones? Anyways I like Q-Mobile 1.2 but I received a lot of error messages I didn't get on other roms. Sleuths is good also but a little too clean for my liking. Downloading Dutty v4 now hopefully this is a winner until his 6.1

Dutty's phone bricked and Schap's has never had a device.
I have 2 devices, 1 with dutty's WM6.1 and the other is Sleuth 3.0's WM6.1. Both are great in their respected fields. I think dutty's is the most organized of the two. Speed wise Sleuth is ahead but thats also due to a larger page file.

What page pool are you rockin' right now. Notice any difference in battery life?
Sleuth 3.0's WM6.1 rocks!
Tried Alex 6.1 but have no luck with no-sound problem.
Switched to Sleuth 3.0 and I stay so far.
Waiting for new version of dutty. I hope secret testing policy will help here (?)
I think it would be awesome if Dutty made a clean version of 6.1 along with his regular version. I hate having all kinds of extra programs that I'm never use.

Sleuth's 6.1 is at 32MB and it's very fast and responsive. No issues with battery life. I'm on the 2nd full decharge right now. 1st run died at about 452 with bluetooth on in a E area. Dutty's default is 24 if i'm not mistaken. dutty's has the best battery life so far. I'll make a better report when i wake up, 2am here and I need to be in the office at 8. Night all

What really makes a ROM fast?

Hi Guys,
Ever since I got my Fuze I've been flashing ROMs left and right. I've tried almost all of them, and I've become curious about what really makes the Cooked ROMs faster? What I've found so far is that the pagepool is supposed to make quite a difference, but I was wondering if there were any other factors.
Thanks
I would be curious about that two
I would guess that more registry tweaks. Also less software running in the background.
I was wondering the same thing but how does another ROM versus the stock ATT ROM? Is there that much of a difference?
I dont know if its worth the whole hard reset to flash another ROM from my stock ATT without the bloatware. Is it worth going to the ROMeO rom?
Also, how about the neccessory programs like Opera or IE or the settings of the phone?
Sorry for so many questions...

It really really REALLY is worth it. I mean its so much faster its ridiculous. Looking back, I can't even believe I put up with the stock AT&T ROM. ROMeOS so far is the fastest I've used, but NATF 2.2 is the one I've used with the least errors or problems. Right now I would recommend the stable build of ROMeOS, even though it is quite old, I've had some problems with the newer ones.

thanks for the feedback. can you recommend the version of the ROMeOS or the NATF ROM for the Fuze?
Which one is better for a newbie and I do like some of the ATT programs like quickgps, youtube, etc.

I'm running ROMeOS 1.51 right now. I highly recommend it. It's light-weight, fast, stable, and no-hassle.
after searching the ROMeOS ROM 1.51 there are two versions...1 for the FUZE and one for the Raphael.
I have the Fuze but read that its not too stable. For the people that have the ATT Fuze, which one are you using?
thanks for the answers maybe i will flash and do a ROMeOS, but on a stock At&t Rom how much does eliminating the bloatware help as far as speed

The Raphael version of ROMeOS works just fine on the Fuze. 1.50.5/1.51 works great! Just remember to get the Fuze keyboard CAB
I still have the same question as the OP.
Someone posted registry edits and less software running.
Ok, well I can do registry edits easily on stock rom.
As far as less software running. What software exactly? Just leaving software out of the base install isn't going to speed anything else, it'll just save some device storage.
My VZW TP boots up and doesn't have any programs running. I see some services certainly are running, but I'd figure those are necessary to the OS.
So what exactly does a cooked ROM to do make the device faster?

Help in selecting ROM

I will be receiving my fuze tomorrow and I've been doing quite a bit of research on these forums. I've come to the conclusion that I will be using a cooked ROM, and there are quite a few to choose from, so a little confusion has set in. I would like to offer a bit of friendly and constructive criticism to ROM maintainers -- Clearly state the goal you are aiming to accomplish with your ROM! It would certainly help in determining which to use (whether it be stability, speed, size, features, etc).
I'm looking to do away with the cruft of the OEM ROM and use something that is, first and foremost, stable and bug free. Performance is secondary but still important.
I guess the place to start would be, a WM6.1 ROM or a 6.5 ROM? I have read the other thread with regard to differences, but my question is of a different context. I am not tied to the 6.1 interface, so that part is irrelevant. I have heard conflicting reports on speed and battery use, but the general consensus is that 6.5 is better. Any word on stability? How about application support?
Then, as far as a particular ROM, I'm looking for something that doesn't necessarily offer all the latest and greatest, but supports a particular version (with bugfixes and performance improvements) for a while. Reading through ROM release posts, it seems that new releases typically have a few kinks to work out. I'm looking for something that has been ironed out over time, or at least will be supported for a while!
Thanks in advance,
B
ROM Choice
I would suggest PROven ROM 4.1 and 1.14.25.05 radio. Fast, stable and energy efficient. I think most folks will suggest that you flash a variety of ROMs and see for yourself what you like best. Enjoy!
If your thinking of a 6.5 rom I can strongly recommend Shep's rom, if your looking for a 6.1 rom I thought the EnergyRom was the best i've used!

I fully agree...I am running Shep's 6.5 rom without any problems. Battery is about the same as 6.1 roms, maybe a little better with certain settings.
You can cook your own ROM using Da_G's kitchen. I can help you if you want.
You have a lot of options. I would say your first option is Wm6.1 or Wm6.5. Very easy choice; WM6.5 no doubt.
You then have a choice of ROMS. I personally do not appreicate the HTC overlay software and feel as though it is pretty, fun and simple but it is more look than substance. I also find that no matter what Cooked ROM I am using that the Roms that aren't stripped down to Wm6.5 basic are simply too slow for me. Some of the cooked Roms are very fast in comparison to the HTC OEM stuff but I still use stripped Roms.
I would say plan to flash three to four times. Try a Da_G Wm6.5 Rom first to figure out what wm6.5 is like. Then go for Shep or NATF to see what a custom rom would be and finally go for broke and try your own cooked Rom.
Once you flash you will be tempted to try other Roms, so go for it. Each ROM really does have it's own unique purpose with a lot of overlapping features.
the amount of roms for the touch pro is truly dizzying so I feel your pain.
The type of roms I like are similar to DCD or NoChem's work. Clean and simple with the necessary OS tweaks/enhancements, then add my cabs.
For my first tpro rom, I'm gonna try Copper.
Are there any roms that just remove the att junk and leave everything else? My current phone is a HTC thru a small carrier that didn't add extra stuff. I was able to tweak little stuff on it w/o doing in the main os. Thanks

WM6.5 and Manilla

Hy guys!
Yesterday I tried to install 2 different Manilla ROM's based on WM6.5! (Shifu_V13, Solace_V3.1) Everything worked great except the usability!
Is it possible that the TyTn2 is far too slow to handle Manilla/Wm6.5? Everything is dead slow, program loading/closing, Home.Screen.Scrolling is a lucky punch everytime. When I slide, I only see where I scrolled after loading menu, so no exact scrolling possible!
I already swapped to HTC_Original WM6.1 back, cause everything runs smooth and stable, except the new design, which i would appreciate even more!
Even the Booting is damn slow, stopped approximatly 2 minutes! The Wm6.1 is up in under a minute!
Are there any suggestions or do I have to buy me the HD Touch to experience Manilla/WM6.5?
best regards
Rekoo
Both ROMs you mention are 6.1 and way faster than stock ROMs so i'd say something else was the issue...........
Isn't this usually a matter of getting the right radio for your device?
From what I read is that speed issues are usually solved by trying out another radio.
Both are wm 6.1.
Why dont you try wm 6.5 roms from here...there are very great, fast, and smoothly roms, with chome and manila. (you have to discover the best spl/radio combo for you).
k, sorry my fault!
Is there a rule for the radio's, like the higher the number the better/faster they work? Or is it trail&error what works best with the device?
What are these POLARIS and NIKI Radio's?
Can I also use them or are they only for the newer devices like HD?

It is all trial and error different radio firmware works differently with different roms/spls/ and in different areas. Pick one that works for you.
Go to Ultimate radio thread and read, all radios there are compatible with Kaiser and 6.0 or 6.1 roms. The 6.1 rom radios appear to all be compatible with 6.5 roms.
Polaris and Niki are just the phones that the radios were ripped from.
You will want to post in they're threads regarding this issue and see what the chefs recommend instead of opening a new thread.
