Would this still be covered under warranty? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
My Xperia X1 is going in for warranty repairs and I'm just wondering if this would void my warranty since it can be labelled as 'physical abuse'.
I've never really had any phone repaired under warranty before so I'm unsure as to what is acceptable and what is not.
Thanks in advance..

Ouch, your X1 made a bad drop..
Sadly, you won't get that fixed under warranty.
Clearly a case of damage due to "abuse", gravity-damage isn't covered by the warranty.
It would be cheaper to buy an housing and repair it yourself.
SE's repair costs are quite high.
(since any other defect isn't covered by the warranty anyways..)
Regards,
EqX

Hi EqX,
Thanks for the reply.
Just to clarify, I'm not trying to get the case repaired under warranty. I have another H/W issue with the phone (unrelated to the drop) and was just wondering if they would reject repairs for my other problem based on seeing the damage on the case.
Thanks!

Sorry, misinterpreted your initial post.
There is a big possibility they will charge you for the repairs because they can said that the drop damaged your hardware, even if it's completely unrelated according to you..

ouch! what the hell did you do?

[Q] Shattered screen in Europe

Hello,
Most of the threads here are about replacement screen in US. I live in Switzerland and have suffered the broken screen from less than 1 feet off the ground :crying:
Can anyone advise me on where I could possibly get my screen replaced? Or should I just buy a screen off the bay and do it myself? Or is the screen + frame option better for DIY repair?
Thank you for your time and help.
Cheers

I suppose if you want to keep warranty in tact, you'd send it to LG to replace, or one of their service centres. Probably worth contacting them and asking for advice initially.

That was my thought initially. Unfortunately, Switzerland doesn't have LG service for Nexus 5.

I would still contact them for advice initially. You must have warranty, so therefore they must be able to advice how to replace the screen without voiding it, surely?

Cracked my z3 while snowboarding today...

Does sony repair front screens cracks? My back camera is not working either for some reason.... the crack is only on the front, back looks normal.
I have the Dual Sim version.. and live in the US.
How much does sony charge? I can't find any local shops that fix the z3 here.
Thanks.
How
Probably be anywhere between $150-250.
My G2 screen replacement was ~$240 at GopherMods when it was 3 months old in Dec 2013. Fixed for free as they messed up 3 times. You are better getting it fixed by Sony itself instead of some of these third party shops where they learn their job on your phone.
If you can do it yourself probably be around $100-150 for the LCD/digitizer assembly. If you want to replace just the glass/digitizer it would be a chore but be even less, not even Sony would do this as it's too much work.
At least $200 if you send it to Sony for repair, but it would cost much less if you want to repair it yourself.

You think they will guarantee it to be waterproof still if I send it in? Still IP68 certified?

The phone I got back from warranty is waterproof. (I sent it in because it wasn't waterproof, touchscreen stopped working after taking pictures underwater)

They should, or they would be at fault and liable to replace it again, unless they detected chlorine or salt residues. So basically if it fails in "fresh water" with flaps closed its not your fault.

That looks like an actual hardware fault rather than physical damage, I would go back to the repair main again, if you were in the UK then you could go to town on him with the sales of good act.

Battery replacement cost through Sony

Has anyone had experience using Sony's repair service? IT appears my battery has swollen and popped the back cover off I am considering sending it in to Sony to have it repaired and am wondering if anyone has an idea of what the cost is in US $$$. If it's too expensive I'll likely do it myself buut am worried losing the waterproofiness.

Don't you have warranty on the device? A damaged battery without an opened case is definitively not your fault..

Screen damaged / chipped

Hey guys,
just noticed that my screen is damaged. Bought the device the 23th May. Can someone relate to?
They say they can't replace the device because I'm contacting after the replacmente period.
Well, I just noticed because I was replacing screen protector. Bullsh*
Unfortunate, but if you didn't notice it for 4 weeks I can't see there's a lot you can do.

Now I will send it for repair
looks like to me this is not the screen maybe but the a thin polymer bezel that holds the screen in the frame?
cheers
If you didn't notice something like that in 4 weeks then it must've not been there when the phone came so it's probably your fault. They tend to want to replace the screen in cases like this and ask for a ton of $$$, so imo you should keep it like that if they say that.

That doesn't look like the screen in the picture. It looks like the housing that is chipped. If I'm seeing it correctly that would be hard for you to do yourself. It should be covered under warranty in my opinion.

Yes you're right. I didn't explain myself correctly. I already chatted with them and explained. Monday or Tuesday they'll pick up the phone.
From now on, I'll check carefully every smartphone.
Buy the screen protection plan and then get it replaced or go through squaretrade, in the US OnePlus screen replacement is like 165.00, but for a little chip I don't think it's worth it.

I bought the screen protection plan. But as insomnia77 said and I agree, it's not the screen that's damaged. It's the housing. Must be production problem.
Not trying to be funny buy you DID remove the original screen protector that's pre-applied? Only asking cos that looks like bubbles under a protector?
Never mind, just noticed the chip. That's bad, did you give it a healthy drop?

Lol. No I didn't drop the phone once so far.
And yes, I was applying a new screen protector, after using tempered glass but didn't like it because of the bad accuracy of FP. Luckely I replaced the screen protector so I could notice the damage.

UPDATE
So that's what I got as answer from Oneplus:

I think this is a "cheap" after sales service.

If it takes too long ask for help on the official OnePlus forums. I've seen them escalate cases. If they don't have the part I would insist on a new replacement.
