Hello,
Most of the threads here are about replacement screen in US. I live in Switzerland and have suffered the broken screen from less than 1 feet off the ground :crying:
Can anyone advise me on where I could possibly get my screen replaced? Or should I just buy a screen off the bay and do it myself? Or is the screen + frame option better for DIY repair?
Thank you for your time and help.
Cheers

I suppose if you want to keep warranty in tact, you'd send it to LG to replace, or one of their service centres. Probably worth contacting them and asking for advice initially.

That was my thought initially. Unfortunately, Switzerland doesn't have LG service for Nexus 5.

I would still contact them for advice initially. You must have warranty, so therefore they must be able to advice how to replace the screen without voiding it, surely?

In the UK, your first port of call is always the retailer rather than the manufacturer.

ok i try that, but will the retailer like carphonewarehouse take mine back and exchange? its been 34 days now and willthe dust and light bleeding be enough to justify a exchange?
I think the only people that can answer that is Carphone Warehouse surely!!
Personally, I'd ask them to sort an exchange out and ask them to get in touch with you when a replacement can be made immediately rather than waiting until one comes in stock meaning you would be without the tablet.

If you break the screen, then Asus has no reason to repair it FREE. You do have to pay for a repair.
Warranty only applies for things like cpu and such (u know what I am talking about)...
Buying a new screen
So having ASUS repair it and paying them for it is one option. Does anyone know know where I can buy the screen and DIY?

I have just bought a screen (digitizer) from ebay and I am about to replace mine, but please check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728820 and read it through well. You may face issues during the process...
DIY Screen replacement
Thanks so much for sharing that thread! What screen are you buying, can you share that link as well? I'd also be very curious to hear how the process went for you and what challenges you face. Thanks again and best of luck!
The DYI seems to be the only method that makes any fiscal sense. $185 to have ASUS replace it and the local repair guy charges $70 for the screen and $100 to replace it.

I bought one off of ebay, I don't think you need the link. But if the local repair guy might be willing to sell you a screen only I would buy asap.
BUT as for the process, it sucked for me...
The screen does not work. Challenges were to glue the new screen and to find a good glue to use.
Please check your ribbon cable (the gold/coppar colored cable at the lower right corner (if you open your tab). Does it say GO1 or GO3 or neither.
Feel free to ask any questions...
You can get one on eBay and there are beautiful tutorials on YouTube showing how to repair it yourself

"So I put my phone into airplane mode and threw it... worst transformer ever. -.-" -My friend
What's going on? Some questions.
- Has anyone cracked their screen/digitizer and had luck finding a new one? If so, please list the details.
- Can the Z2 screen be used as a substitute? I've heard that the connections are different but they look so similar...
Your help is so much appreciated. I love this phone and would really like to keep using it. It seems that Verizon and repair companies won't touch it as it's not a Galaxy or IPhone:crying:. If it helps, I'm in eastern North Carolina.
I think you can send it back to Sony, I might be your easiest/ best bet

That's true but I've been reading that they charge 50% of the retail price and it may take up to 3-4 weeks to repair. I'm looking for a shorter and cheaper option.
I cracked my screen and would like some feedback on a reliable place to buy a replacement as it is out of the 3 month warranty. Thank you.
I replaced the screen in my H8. It's very hard to replace it, you have to remove back glass first and the most difficult thing is to put it back.

There's a tutorial from iFixit or something like that, it needs precision and a little bit of patience, good luck

You are welcome , probably u should have made a video while u strip the phone into parts and also the assembling part.
I have broken the screen of mine. What is a prudent way to go about fixing it? Should I contact Huawei and ask for repair, or should I purchase a replacement display and try fixing it myself?
If Huawei offers repair, what is the cost? I have not registered the phone or purchased a warrantee.
If I go DIY route, where should I get a replacement? eBay?
Thanks in advance. It is the first time ever I cracked a smartphone display. It was my fault but still a bummer. Ugh.

I hope contacting service center might get ur display replaced an original one.
If you contact Service center you definitely get a genuine parts, but price will be higher.
You can replace it by yourself if you don't have crooked hands..

Hey guys,
just noticed that my screen is damaged. Bought the device the 23th May. Can someone relate to?
They say they can't replace the device because I'm contacting after the replacmente period.
Well, I just noticed because I was replacing screen protector. Bullsh*
Unfortunate, but if you didn't notice it for 4 weeks I can't see there's a lot you can do.

looks like to me this is not the screen maybe but the a thin polymer bezel that holds the screen in the frame?
cheers
If you didn't notice something like that in 4 weeks then it must've not been there when the phone came so it's probably your fault. They tend to want to replace the screen in cases like this and ask for a ton of $$$, so imo you should keep it like that if they say that.

That doesn't look like the screen in the picture. It looks like the housing that is chipped. If I'm seeing it correctly that would be hard for you to do yourself. It should be covered under warranty in my opinion.

Yes you're right. I didn't explain myself correctly. I already chatted with them and explained. Monday or Tuesday they'll pick up the phone.
From now on, I'll check carefully every smartphone.
Buy the screen protection plan and then get it replaced or go through squaretrade, in the US OnePlus screen replacement is like 165.00, but for a little chip I don't think it's worth it.

I bought the screen protection plan. But as insomnia77 said and I agree, it's not the screen that's damaged. It's the housing. Must be production problem.
Not trying to be funny buy you DID remove the original screen protector that's pre-applied? Only asking cos that looks like bubbles under a protector?
Never mind, just noticed the chip. That's bad, did you give it a healthy drop?

Lol. No I didn't drop the phone once so far.
And yes, I was applying a new screen protector, after using tempered glass but didn't like it because of the bad accuracy of FP. Luckely I replaced the screen protector so I could notice the damage.

UPDATE
So that's what I got as answer from Oneplus:
"Thank you for contacting OnePlus Customer Support.
We apologies any inconvenience caused due to this. We understand your concern regarding the delay in repair for your device and this is the far opposite of what we want our customers to experience. Please note that we can do replacements only if the device is within 15 days return/replacement period and damages upon arrival has to be reported within 72 hours. Upon checking with your repair request we have found that it is pending for the spare parts to be arrived. Once the service center has received the spare parts then the device will be repaired and released as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding!
Please let us know if you have any other concerns.
Thanks & Best Regards,

I think this is a "cheap" after sales service.

If it takes too long ask for help on the official OnePlus forums. I've seen them escalate cases. If they don't have the part I would insist on a new replacement.
