I have been debating creating this thread because I do not want it to be seen as spam. It is not meant as spam, and I am not doing it for profit.
I have started a challenge very much like the androidandme.com Android Bounty contests. I want to get developers to start working on widgets, so I am hosting a donation pot for the reward. The contest is called Droid Dev Challenge 1: Cupcake Widget (yes, I know I suck at naming things). Please take a look at the full information here: http://android-dls.com/droid-dev-challenge.html
I do not want to quote that post because that post will probably change or even move.
If you are a developer, take a look and consider joining in to try and win the reward. If you are a user, consider a small donation of $5 or so to go to the winner of the contest. If this goes well, we will see lots of great new widgets just in time for the official Cupcake release (sometime in 2018 I believe). As is stated in the topic, none of the donations go to me or my site. Minus standard paypal deductions, the whole amount goes to the winning developer.
Also if you have any ideas on what I can add to the contest to make it more enticing please feel free to pm me here, or reply to this post.
***EDIT***
If you are unable to help the contest in any way because you cannot donate or because you do not know how to write a widget (/me raises his hand), you can still help by spreading the word. If you are a Digg.com user, please digg this story here. Any extra exposure the contest gets helps the chances of more developers entering in.
I wouldn't mind donating aside from the fact that the widget's will probably cost on the market. Not much into paying for things twice. But if enough developers get on board sure i'll chip in if it drives a better product.
|Spike|
I kinda agree, but this is more of a contest than it is purchasing the widget. This will hopefully spark more interest in widgets which will make lots more competition and hopefully better widgets in teh long run. I am gonna try to put $20 into it, although I would NEVER pay that much for an app. Depends on if I can steal $20 from myself (yes, im married, I have to steal from myself to have spending cash).
Donated! I cant wait to see what happens! And I have some personal experience with this kinda of stuff from running the dream theme contest so if you need any help let me know.
I would donate as long as the devs who participate make their entries free downloads for donators... After all the donators will have paid them already!
They could provide screen shots for non-donators/non-voters to drive interest in purchases.
And the contest coordinator could email the donators the link with the downloads that would only be up for a limited time.
OK - so, it seems we have at least five competitors! I'm in and plan on donating $20.00.
NOTE: Persons wishing to donate may select the link regarding the contest at the bottom of Darkrift's signature (which I duplicated at the bottom of my signature)
Darkrift - you might suggest to the competitors that they put a link to the competition to generate more interest/notice!
BrandenK I might bug you some day about a few things since I am a bit new to this.
shaneaus, I was thinking about that, but it doesnt work out as well. If the widgets are paid and go on the market, you could get a free copy but then updates would not be available in teh market. For that reason I paid for BarTor when the author offered me a free copy for helping beta test. It was a couple of dollars I could have saved, but market updates were worth it to me. I can put in a rule that all donators who donate $5 or more will get a copy and see how that goes.
Thanks to all who have donated, we are up to $30 within the first 30 hours. Not a bad start.
Developers, we still need some contestants to sign up and try to win the pot (you do not have to wait for the pot to grow to sign up, the end date is not going to be until at LEAST 10 days after the 1.5 SDK is officially released, and maybe later)
If anyone knows any Android developers, or frequents developer sites, please let them know about this contest. The more devs participating, the better the competition, and the better the final product will be. I am trying to get ahold of as many devs as I know, but most do not have contact info publically available. I will try to email widget devs from the market tonight.
Ilm up for entering the contest; got a few widget ideas =]
Great! Cant wait to see them

Id really like to see some more widgets, is there other widgets out yet or in development to follow? I'd really like to see a twitter widget, gtalk widget, friendfeed widget...
Found another:
http://code.google.com/p/wiktionary-android/
Example code showing how to create a home screen widget with the AppWidget framework in Android. Shows the Wiktionary "Word of the day" in a widget, and updates daily with a new word.
Here is an introduction on making widgets:
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/04/introducing-home-screen-widgets-and.html
What I would love to see come from this comp
I'm requesting that a Dev make the following for the competition:
I saw a weather widget/app on some other phone (don't remember which).
When it was sunny the widget was a blazing sun (really nice looking with a flaming/moving effect to the sun) - really looked like it was actively blazing.
When it was raining there were water droplets splashing on the screen. It had a windshield wiper that ran and swiped the droplets off.
When it was cloudy there were puffy clouds floating across the screen.
When there was a thunderstorm the clouds were dark, it was raining, the windshield wiper was running, and there were occasional lightning strikes (I think there were only about five different ones - but, they rotated through those five and they were occasional - like every five-10 seconds). It was freaking AWESOME!
It was the most impressive thing I have seen on a phone. There was a switch button that would stop the animation and just leave a small icon on the desktop (the button could be a setting in the icon or for Android it could be placed in the Notification Bar) .
The icon had great graphics - the sun, cloud, and storm cloud had the temp in contrasting numbers in the center.
OK, OK... So, the app didn't do all of the above... But, the rain and the sun were there! LOL I would pay well for an app like that!
DANG I wish I was a dev or had the time to learn!
I think you are talking about the M2D home screen I had on my Hermes.
And I would love to help if anyone needs it. Im not very familiar with this part of the Android OS so I would love to learn.
yea there definately needs to be a pretty weather widget like the htc diamond:
http://member.america.htc.com/downl...duct_Video_Gellary/HeroShot_spin-horz_WMV.zip
actually the home screen animation/effects are killer on that phone, its the only phone worth looking at other than a g1, would be nice if it was android and not windows mobile, that is why I dont be switching
@brandenk - I think that was it. The UI looks similar to what I saw. Do you have the windshield wiper? LOL
I was envisioning something similar... But, more of a layer across most of the screen for the drifting clouds/storm clouds/rain and realistic looking lightning. One could turn that layer effect off and have a smaller/simpler icon (more of a traditional widget style) or turn the effects back on.
I'm sure it is do-able. After all SweeterHome has layers of imaging/controls.
Also, SweeterHome has special trays for Contacts, Calendar, Text Messaging and Call Log - like a widget - but customizable. That along with their Springboards make it freaking awesome. When SweeterHome supports widgets I will scream for joy! (Jump for joy was just to mundane and wouldn't explain my excitement!)
I can just see the animated weather on my phone now! I would work with someone on designing the graphics. I'm just not up on the programing end of things.
Sorry to highjack this thread! But, just wanted to give an idea to any dev that would enter the competition. The theme competition was great.
Just need to get some devs interested! If more than 10 will sign up I'll donate $20.00 again!
Hmm if I could think of a widget other than weather(thought of phonefusion checker but I've been having enough problems with a music player I've been writing to know that's just not feasible for me... plus I don't want to deal with copyright problems, etc) since that's already being worked on I'd be all in for this. *thinks really hard*
some ideas for devs...
-Favorite sports team(s) scores - updated once everyday or manually
-Favorite Stock info - updated every 4 hrs or manually
-cnn or google news
-horoscope- if youre into that sorda thing
and one that i think would be especially hard but awesome:
a widget that uses the gps, basically a screen a tad bit bigger than the frame widget, inside of it will be where you currently are displaying the blue dot from maps. it could have a play/pause button so you are not constantly using gps and if you press the widget it opens google maps.
Ideas for widgets...
RSS - automatically displays/scrolls feeds, click on the feed of your choice to open the default browser to the selected feed.
Weather - as mentioned above or otherwise
Modified Google search widgets.
Wiki widget
Tweeter/Twidroid widget
IM widget - keeps one logged in and displays incoming messages - single click to respond. Once one responds the window closes and goes back to homescreen with widget displayed.
Gmail widget - shows subject/first few lines of incoming email - select if one wishes to respond to open up the app.
Calendar widget - better than stock one!
Clock widgets - The current ones are Boring - unless you take into account the ones developed by the Theme Devs! It would be cool is someone could just create a clock widget in which users could enter download different clocks to put into the widget. Then we could mix and match!
@Seenochino - Sports news - good for sports fans. Don't know how one would make it team specific? I'm not into sports. But, that was a good idea.
Picture frame that works like an LCD picture frame in the house. Does a slideshow with user selectable transition effects (fade/slide/etc). Could be set to run only when the phone is not in sleep mode.
MySpace - monitors posts onto a MySpace page, can stream music from page, etc. Or,
FaceBook - same idea.
That widget that is on my Google page that monitors updates to The Dudes OS files. Whatever that is would be nice!
PR0N widget!!!
how about a pet widget where you can feed and pet a dog? You could even do more like send it to another person with a g1 and it shows on there home screen

Hi guys, an app I've been working on for the better part of 6 months has been released into the market as a free beta. It's called TV Show Favs and lets you manage all of your favorite TV shows.
It shows you a personal schedule for all upcoming shows of your favorites, has a top favs for all users, allows you to track every episode you have watched, and it even has a custom notification manager where you can either choose to be notified for all your shows, or just the shows you want, or even at an episode level. You can choose to be notified at a default time (5 min up to a week), or select an individual episode and choose the exact time/date. Also, everything is stored online, so you never lose any of your data, and once we eventually have a website to manage online, and potentially an iphone app, your info goes with!
In less than 3 days we have had over 1000 downloads already. I am working my butt off to fix any bugs that are reported and implement any feature suggestions. Any feedback is great! Thanks!
Here is our website - www.tvshowfavs.com - which has some info about the app as well as some screenshots, and the link to the app in the market. If you are too lazy to go to the site, here is the market link: http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.tvshowfavs

Hi, I just downloaded your app and it looks great. I cant wait to try it out.
Do you have any plans to make a widget showing upcoming shows.
I love this program. You should incorporate reviews and user ratings from IMDB or something... and the ability to write reviews directly in your app and post to IMDB (if possible). Also, if you could mark all shows on all seasons watched at once instead of tapping seasons/season 1/menu/mark all watched... meaning eliminate one middle step... seasons/menu/mark all watched, that'd be sweet too.
Awesome. Just downloaded, will post impressions soon. I really liked droid series, but no notifications hurt.
Quick impressions:
Interface is amazing for finding and searching shows
It looks like it will be invaluable for keeping on top of things (most of my shows happen to start this week, so I get lost!)
In fact, the only problem I have with this app, is it doesn't look like it will be that good at keeping up with old series your going through. To fix that, I'd like to see
In the page, with the show, under seasons tab, there is a list of all seasons. Under the season number, I'd like to see "x unwatched episodes"
I'd like to be able to mark the entire season as watched
An option to mark multiple seasons watched at once
Droid Series does these things excellently, if you want a good example. However, yours is far better at keeping up with current shows. Fix the above problems, and I would for sure be a buyer. Otherwise, I'll still be stuck with two programs for TV.
Its a good app, and i saw that you added calender integration? I'm not sure how to sync it with my calender though. Is this actually a feature or something coming soon?
I definitely plan on having an upcoming shows widget down the road.

We do have plans on doing user reviews and ratings within the app. We also plan on having relational suggestions, as well as comments for shows and episodes. These are things that will likely make the main release, possibly the beta. Also, in the next update (Sunday or Monday), we will have the option to set a show as watched and a season as watched. As for IMDB, this is a great idea and I will look into it.

What exactly do you mean by no notifications? There are notifications in the app, in fact the most customizable notifications of any app I can imagine.

Thanks for the suggestions! Like I mentioned, we do plan on the option to mark shows/seasons as watched. I do like the idea for showing how many unwatched episodes though, so I will add that to my todo list!

To add an episode to the calendar just select any episode in a list (List of episodes in the episode list view, episode on the schedule) or select the "Add To Calendar" menu option in the menu on the episode info screen.

I meant droid series (the app I used previously like this) had no notifications, and that was the biggest drawback to it. Loving the notifications/schedule on this app
I like it so far. My only complaints would be that instead of episode information I see pictures and that the color scheme (grey and dark blue) is a little ugly.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't stand dark color schemes because not many people coordinate colors properly. For me, light grey color schemes are best because they're easy on the eyes and it's easy to find complementing colors. The android app market is a good example of a well designed app.
I can't find it in my market I'm using HD2 with Desire HD Android port. Can somebody help me. I'm a total TV shows junky. The app looks veeery nice!
I was just needing this app...
With all the good shows on several different networks and the seasons of the shows hard to keep up with, I was wondering if there was app that could keep up with my shows and here it is. Can wait to put it to the test this week.

Did you try using the direct link either via the barcode on the website or clicking the barcode on your phone? If so, it is very possible that since it is a leaked rom some apps don't show up. I have had that issue in the past when installing custom roms. Usually it requires the rom maker to modify something on the rom to make it work.
I really like it, I've done my video review with a few requests in
http://hemorrdroids.net/tv-show-favs/
Main one being, can you make an option to add all shows to a calendar of my choosing? I would then make a new calendar for TV shows
Really enjoy this app, does a lot of things I like. For some reason I couldn't find anywhere to link the schedule to my calendar? Running 2.2 (FroydVillain 1.5) on Hero. A couple of suggestions:
1) Option to turn on an additional button next to the "Watched" button in the schedule, named "Downloaded". So you can track which episodes you have downloaded, and then which of those you have watched (not for illegal use, most broadcasters let you download episodes from their websites legally, eg BBC). This button probably isn't needed by everyone, but having the ability to turn it on would be nice
2) A friends button. Allowing you to link to other people using the app to share Favs, and see who has watched what episodes (if they plan to share this information).
3) Comments. Would be great to be able to add comments to episodes, so your friends can see what you have said about an episode (add a tickbox for spoilers!). So when you click the "Watched" button, it gives you an option to add a comment.
4) Facebook (or Twitter) link. To post a status on Facebook/Twitter including your comment, for example: "Zebwen just watched House Season 6 Episode 1 and thought: Wow! About time!" (With a little pic of the House show image next to it, and a link to the show on TV.com or somesuch).
As it stands, this app is a great tool, these are just some suggestions that I would love to see for my own use. Keep up the great work!
Zeb
Due to the complexity of animation, actions of Timester and limitations in the Android OS regarding widgets, a widget version of Timester is not possible at this time. Thank you for not asking for this again.
[update] Timester HD - the new Timester is roaming free on the market. Also www.Timester.info is live and updated.
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.timester.livewallpaper&feature=search_result
I've been looking for a nice clock for my desire ever since the sense clocks got so old for me. The market provides mostly image+clock arms widgets, so I thought of a different kind of a widget:
The main character is a very lazy hamster named Timester. This guy realized that he is somewhat overweight and unfit so he has to run the wheel. The hamster wheel turns as he reluctantly runs, which in turn engages a dynamo and all the other cogs and wheels inside. Every once in a while, Timester gets tired and goes to sleep. So when you unlock your phone you will find him sleeping but quickly getting up and getting exercise. Or he will run so fast that the wheel and hamster will seem one. Or hamster will slow so much that he needs a jolt kindly provided by the machine to resume running.
Blou_Aap was brave enough to step up to the challenge and is committed to building a great live wallpaper. In a few short days he managed to release a pre-alpha version, 0.001.
There are still a lot of features to be added, and optimizations to be implemented so please be patient with us and provide valuable feedback.

V 1.04
- fixed bug that when Timester was on strike made clicks register as timester settings click.
--------------------------------------------------
V 1 .03
- different app and app name, so it won't show up as an update for the old timester
- more actions
- better optimised code, running smoother
- tablet support (tested on galaxy tab) please report any issues on tab or other tablets
- people with 320x480 screens will see that timester is oversized - don't fret, there are still some adjustments for smaller screens to be done and timester hd will support 320x480 properly
--------------------------------------------------
V 0.009
- Fixed bugs for 480x854 screens
- Removed app from app drawer

Thank you. Sniffy sounds good, but I think it should say something about him being a hamster or his personality. Unless I'm missing something, sniffy is about him having a fine sense of smell, or a good instinct in finding things.
Any other ideas?
Also, could anyone tell me if this is technically possible? I'm not sure about it because I haven't seen any heavily animated widgets. I wonder if that animation would not eat up the whole CPU.
What about Andy(The Lazy Ass Hamster) Lol
Sent from my Intergalactic Supah Dupah Spaceship¡¡!!!
Is there really no one that wants to help him...
i would totally use this clock LOL
How about Sherlock ?
Reading this has my imagination running.
Some ideas:
You could have several different hamster characters to choose from. One could be lazy like you suggested, one could be a ninja, one could be a personal trainer, the list goes on.
It would be cool if there were different "cut scenes" where the hamster does different things (like you're suggesting). Cut scenes would be based on the character. The lazy hamster (maybe name it Lightning?) would have cut scenes like sleeping, peeing and looking over his shoulder at you, gnawing on one of your app icons, etc. The ninja cut scenes would be like throwing stars at the clock, doing flips, hanging on things, or hiding behind the clock peering at you, etc.
When you talked about waking up the lazy hamster did you consider being able to shake the phone to wake him up?
I have plenty more ideas where those came from. This sounds like a pretty dang funny and fun clock idea. Your art is good too (almost a little too detailed for me actually) -- did you draw the mock-ups?
Would be sweet if a good UI/widget dev would come along and pick this one up. I've been working with a dev on a game, but I don't have coding experience.

It should be technically possible since u can use a SurfaceView as a widget
so drawing the Graphics there wouldnt be a problem
it would drain the Batter though, but dont know
u have to redraw the SurfaceView every second (serveral times per secon to maintain 25+ fps)
so the animations wont appear sluggish
I could try to program it, though my Programming Experience is limited ( only worked with 2D once )
could start immediately when i get my phone back (3-4 days)
//edit after seeing the chillin' hamster a idea to safe battery life popped up
u could just redraw the clock every minute? or every 40 seconds
if a minute is about to pass by the hamster starts running to turn the wheels so the new minute Image is shown

Fleya is a FREE realtime fluid simulation for your Android phone.
But you don't have to be a physics specialist or an engineer to enjoy it.
Just swipe your finger across the screen to see why.
You can find it in the Android Market as "Fleya", or scan the QR code at the bottom of this post.
The app is also available on SlideMe and YAAM.
Main features:
Awesome fluid engine
Sensitive to accelerometer
Multi-touch (the code can interpret 20 fingers on the screen but it depends on the hardware capabilities of your phone)
Save images to SD, instantly available in image gallery
Option to choose simulation resolution and accuracy (higher settings mean slower simulation though)
Ability to choose your own colors as well as built in color presets
Tech notes:
The fluid engine is written in native code. It's probably the fastest engine currently on the market (please correct me if I'm wrong). A lot of work went into optimizations and now it's about 20 to 30 times faster than it used to be (I started with the theoretical code).
The concept is this:
Your screen turns into a box of 2D "smoke". You inject fluid with your fingers and when your fingers move, the fluid gets agitated. The fluid is colored according to it's temperature and you can choose 5 colors for the temperature scale gradient.
Temperature also influences the fluid when combined with the accelerometer through the Gravity setting. Hot fluids go up, cold fluids go down.
There are 3 fluid presets that ignore temperature and are colored according to density (Smoke, Ink and Cloud). The difference is in the interaction with the accelerometer. They are not pushed up or down according to the static orientation of the phone. They only react to sudden changes in orientation when the gravity setting is turned up.
Feedback:
I have a ton of other features fighting for attention in my head but very little time to implement them. I try my best but your suggestions would really help prioritize them.
For any comments, suggestions or questions, please leave a comment or send an email.
With your help, the best is yet to come.

Great looking!!!
For someone like me who has a love of physics & engineering, it's great!
Thank you.
This is really neat! Is there any possibility of integrating this into a live wallpaper? That would be bad ass! It could function the same as now with touch. I know there are live wallpapers like Plasma and such but they're constantly moving and don't react to touch or look as great as this.

5 stars for you! Would make for an awesome live wallpaper.
Would also be cool if the ones like "hot and cold" had 2 point multitouch going on.

Very cool.
Great App!
Great App! For some reason, its addicting. lol. One of those apps where there will always be a situation that pops up where Fleya would be useful, for us math and science nerds. Thanks for the post!
5 stars!
Would be awesome for this to be a live wallpaper.
Would also be cool if the ones like "hot and cold" had 2 point multitouch going on also.
pretty cool, after a few minutes I tried using two point touch... would probably make it significantly more intensive to program.
thanks for making it, puts a grin on my face
pretty darn kewl.
A few things that might be really kewl.
Multi touch.
More colors.
Random color wheel.
Thanks for the great replies
Wow, quick replies. Thank you all for the promptness and great ratings.
Everything you just said has been considered and will most probably be implemented. Let's take it feature by feature and see when.
Multitouch
This was a feature that was planned from the beginning but I wanted to target Android 1.6 too so no multitouch there. So I decided to build the app with all the rest of the features that I had planned, make it into a working and fun app and then migrate to Android 2.1+. I know I could have made it run on both but I didn't want to sacrifice any more processing power for it from the start. My thinking was...make it run as fast as you can then add features.
I'll be making multitouch my first priority since I've seen a lot of people say why can't I use more fingers?
I'm still unsure if it will be limited to 2 point touch or as many as the phone supports.
Color Wheel
This has most definitely been considered. In fact, the first stable version I uploaded to my phone supported 16 million colors. It simulated 3 fluid densities, the Red, the Green and the Blue so it supported practically any color. It actually started with a picture of my girlfriend and I could drag her nose over her head and see it swirl around, mixing all the colors Of course, by the time it started to swirl, the image was too liquefied to even look like a face.
Anyway, back then(4 weeks ago) Fleya was "incredibly fast". I got one frame every 2 or 3 seconds so I started to optimize code and cut stuff out. One thing I cut along the way was the 3 color channels, now it's only one fluid being simulated as a temperature channel and the colors are all picked from palettes.
You may have noticed that Hot and Cold (read red and blue) never mix into purple, they always go through black. That's because black is the color for the medium temperature. And another thing, if they did mix into purple, the swirls that formed would not be so well defined and would probably not get that "silk sheets" look if left untouched for a while.
But I'm not dismissing the idea; it will be implemented. Unfortunately it will have an impact on performance but I'll do my best to minimize it.
More color palettes
This is the easiest one of all from a tech point of view so it's a certainty that things will improve...I'll be updating the current palettes and adding new ones with each update, concentrating on making them look best. This is also a place where outside ideas are very very welcome.
Live wallpaper
While developing the first draft of Fleya, I had completely forgot about live wallpapers on Android. The code is written to support Android 1.6 so, by default the methods used for live wallpapers weren't even visible. It hit me in the head 2 seconds after publishing Fleya to the market. It instantly hit me harder on the other side of my head that a live wallpaper that is CPU intensive will be frowned upon by most users. I'll be building a live wallpaper version but not right now. I'll be releasing some updates to Fleya first, implement some of these features and then I'll definitely be painting your homescreen in swirls.
Again, thank you all. It makes a BIG difference to know my work is enjoyed by others.
Great, another Romanian developer. I will install it right away Thank you
It runs too slow on my aria, anyway you can fix that? Otherwise I love it xD
Try a lower resolution setting from Menu/Options.
Unfortunately, there are very few things I can do to make it run faster. Even if I do them, you may not even feel any difference.
On high resolutions it's running slowly on my HTC Magic too, but I left the option for higher resolutions because of higher end devices that can handle it.
amazing ! a live wallpaper will be much appreciated ! very addictive app
Loving this, great show-off tool
Thanks

I'm developing a calendar app to replace the stock app for Google Calendar.
Link to app: https://market.android.com/details?id=dk.alxb.calendardroid
The app is in BETA stage and I would love to get some feedback from you guys. You can write here, or you can email CalendarDroid [AT] gmail com and I will respond quickly.
I would love to weed out the Google Calendar related bugs on the BETA and focus on adding new great features.
The philosophy behind the app is a calendar that is easy to use, clean, intuitive, and highly customizable.
What is currently implemented:
Month View / Week View / Day View / Agenda View
A few settings to customize
What needs done before release:
Removal of all bugs
Search
Custom "add/edit event" windows
More views (14 day?)
Selection of shown calendars
More intuitive navigation
National holidays
WIDGETS! Lots of them. (Might be Paid version only)
Your suggestions!
Hi there,
Very nice app,better than stock
I would like to give you some suggestions. If I were you I would do these.
If you compare your app with others, they are similar in view aspect. Since screen is not that large for everyone, the word "presentation" for ex. wouldn't fit the box and square boxes appear nice too instead of rectangle. Something like iphone calendar ( I appreciate what is good in ios or android)
To solve the space issue, you could put color codes or words and make them customized.
PPl can assign red to school, brown to office....
When you click them, a window pops up and shows the complete schedule
Note I have exaggerated things on images, not all boxes should have too many colors, by using square you can use the extra space down there for quick note or whatever you like. Didnt have time to make eeach box different
Again Im sure you can find better ideas, You can sell more if show something extra

Wow thanks for your suggestions. The color coding for the events you mention are just different calendars right? I for example have a Google Calendar for school, one for work, one private and so one. Each with a different color. Color coding of individual events would take some time to do manually.
You mention a window popping up when you click on one of the square day fields. What about making the lower part of the screen a scroll view with events of the day you have pressed? Then if you press on the square again you go to day view, but this way you can more quickly see the events for the day without loading a new view.

No problem at all.
You can for ex say you just wanna see work schedule, so instead of general window, u see a new one with let say brown color and only work related. new window for school and so on.
If you wanna see everything then you can have a general window that shows everything together.
Cuz it's hard to fit all the words inside the box (like in my first image) you can use colors or words or any other shapes you prefer.
Yes that's better idea use the extra space for scroll i like that may be more buttons, shortcuts, it has so many potentials. This way you keep it really clean, easy to access and havent seen anyone doing it
Make copy and paste of events possible and easily done from one date to another. Please see http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2618 for a list of people who are angry this isn't already implemented. This is a pain if the event does not regularly reoccur thus has to be entered over and over by the user or the user has to go to a desktop or notebook to fix it from the web client. My Razor did this so it is just weird it can't be done on stock Android.

Thanks. That is a great idea. I think my next larger feature is custom add/edit event windows. Right now I use the ones from your default calendar.
With my own customer views for adding and editing events the possibilities are endless. Of course copy and paste will be a simple thing to implement. Then there are the ability to make more advanced recurrence rules, easier selection of dates (on a month like view), and much more.
Yeah! A useful month view!!!!
IMO, the month view is the winning feature. I can actually see is going on! What this isn't stock if beyond me. Thank you for, well, using your brain.

I wouldn't waste time implementing this in the app. I don't know about other countries, but there is a Google calendar for the US. I just subscribe to it.
- WIDGETS! Lots of them. (Might be Paid version only)
I am curious to see what you have in mind, but, IMO, these could wait. I currently use Android Agenda Widget, because it integrates with Astrid.
Anyways, I think you are off to a great start. I look forward to see what you cook up.
Calendar functionality: Holidays

I most definitely agree with @weareallkosh that national holidays are not worth investing your time (at least not at this point, there are many higher-priority issues to deal with in the stock calendar app).
Since even Google couldn't implement holidays right in their calendars you can subscribe to (and they declined to answer why), I think your time is best spent elsewhere. So many people were complaining about the defects in Google's "US Holidays" calendar, most particularly that it does not extend far enough into the future that I created one from scratch that incorporated "recurring formulas" for all future dates, and I generated and merged in all "irregularly repeating" holidays, such as Easter, and "nudging" dates such as "Tax Returns Due" to the following Monday when April 15 falls on a weekend day, etc.
Since anyone can subscribe to this (or any other nationality/ethnicity/belief-based) calendar, there's little incentive for you to duplicate the effort. Also, particularly if you wish to support multiple nationalities, cultures, contemporary versus traditional versus orthodox religion variants, and so on, you can quickly get bogged down in endless debates over which dates ought to be included in which calendars, as well as having to investigate frequent reports of "your calendar shows X falling on Y date, but that's wrong", many of which are inaccurate. Just sucks your time away from more urgent issues.
Cant wait to test this app. Will the calendar have a bi-weekly event capability?
@weareallkosh, @tgi007
Thanks guys. I will put national holidays way in the back. Your solution is much better tgi007, and hopefully someone will make something like it for other languages and traditions.
From the input I have received I have decided that the next feature is custom add/edit event views. This will make copy/paste of events, advanced recurrence rules, and intuitive date selection possible.
@Rico ANDROID
With the next feature implemented I will look into the best way to specify advanced recurrence rules. I have read the specification for the recurrence rules and biweekly is possible in the standard together with many more features.
The hard part will be how to specify these rules because the standard is really flexible. But I think some templates to select from is the way to go. Like the stock calendar, just with more options of course. AND the possibility to specify an end date to the recurrence or the number of recurrences.
But maybe I find a great way to specify it without making it too hard to understand.
Thanks all. More feedback is welcome. This is great!

FORUMS!
I'm making this thread in the hopes some ppl will try it, give me some feedback, etc. I have a small group of about 5 people who have been helping me make this in the past 3 weeks, and It's come a long way.
OK, so here it is.
ScanDroid Kingdoms is a Barcode Battler, with RPG elements.
You scan barcodes to create your creatures. You currently can have as many as you like.
You can then battle your creatures against "Barcode NPCs", or battle online against other people on the ScanDroid Network.
You can take advantage of your "Daily Scans" to gain items, exp, or currency.
You can also share your creature via QR code for others to scan and battle, instead of using the online listings.
There is an Item shop, where you can buy things with currency.
Currency(ScanCreds) are gained when you scan for anything in the game.
Soon to be added:
Quests
Leaderboards
Equipment
Crafting
Online Trade House/Auction House
Skills for both Players and Creatures
Friends List
Messaging
I also have a donate version on the market, if anyone finds this game fun and wants to help keep it going at a fast pace, I'd appreciate it.
Currently there is NO difference between the free and donate versions.
Once the game is out of BETA, there will be differences.
Free version will not have multiple creature management, and will have a level cap(will be a higher one, like 40 or so). It will not get all the quests the Donate version will get either. But that is down the road.
I hope you like it and please respond if you have tried it, let me know what you think, and I'll try to do what I can to make the game more to your liking! I am trying to make this game as much a community project as I can, as I find that others seem to have great ideas I would have never thought of.

Been playing this for a while and so far I'm liking it. I'm also on the beta team for Barcode Beasties.
There's a few things not quite right and/or lacking in your game. I don't seem to get "daily scans" only scan accumulated through online battles. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding this but to me "daily scans" would indicate we get an amount of scans allocated to us every day. In the online battling feature it would be handy if we could see the other creatures level as well as their name in the listing of potential opponents, it would save us loading an opponent up, seeing they're too far above us in level terms then having to go back in and load another.
I also have a question. are we allowed to re-scan codes ever ie. is it a once per day scan limit or is it a persistent limit that never allows us to scan the same code twice??
Anyways, loving the game and hope it does well, would love to see your game and Barcode Beasties combined but I suppose you both being in competition so to speak will cause both games to have to strive for excellence.

Hey, thanks for the reply!
OK, so first:
You get 20 scans per day, refreshed at the start of each day.
Also, due to a very recent update, you can have a chance to gain an extra scan upon winning a match. Before, you would win a scan after EVERY win of match, which gave too many scans to them.
Having the level of each creature next to the name is a feature I have heard about quite a bit lately, and I am truly looking for a solution to have implemented in the next few days.
Also, it saves all UPCs in a db, and does not allow you to scan the same one twice, to keep ppl from figuring out what codes give what and keep ppl scanning in different places and situations.
Also, I saw Barcode Beasties hasn't been updated in a long while(market shows nov 10, 2010.) Is it still be worked on I take it? Also, I consider Barcode Beasties to be a different game for the most part, and the direction our team has planned for this game will take it so far off course from Barcode Beasties that they won't even be able to be compared after a while.
Thanks for the input, hope to hear from you again.
If you are interested in joining up with us on beta development, let me know, I would be glad to have you on board. Email me at [email protected] If you are interested.
Installed the game and gave it a try, so far everything seems great.
A little more flashiness to the UI might be in order, by no means does it look bad. A WP7 style setup for the buttons would fill in the blank space left by the smaller buttons currently, give the entire application more flow. (Mainly referring to the buttons in Barracks/Battle etc... change from small grey boxes to WP7 style buttons with large graphics)
The barcode scan portion works great, had no problems there.
Battle wise everything was fine, however the battle text was a little slow. Perhaps having an option to speed up the battle text, or make it go to the next round via tap interaction?
Definite thumbs up for this app. Plays well, no errors encountered as of yet, and I really enjoy the concept. Cant wait to see how it grows.

Thanks for trying it. The UI is fairly new right now, but we are trying to find ways to make it easier and more appealing. I will take the idea you had and see if it can help us at all.
Good idea for the battle text, ill add it to our bugs/feature tracker.
New Update has been posted!
Changes Include:
Bug Fixes(Of Course)
Online Creature List now shows levels under names
NEW Inventory System to test out!
Also, as with any update during the BETA, please contact me([email protected]) if anything is not working properly, and Ill do what i can to fix it ASAP!
Also, still looking for a couple more people who want to join the teams beta testing division, so we can get the updates tested a little faster so I can send them to the market quicker!
