Well... I was out with my friends, they were screwing around, one was looking at my phone then he saw the name of a girl i'm interested in, decided to call her, i tried to grab the phone back, he tossed it to his girlfriend who missed it, it hit the ground, and now, i have a 'bleeding' lcd under the glass.
Expensive phones and alcohol do not mix.
So looks like i'm going to have to go down to the mall and get myself a cheapy replacement phone for the next couple weeks.
Looking at a replacment I see "pocket pc techs" a $250 repair to fix the LCD.
Any chance anyone knows a cheaper repair place? in north america... didn't think so but it was worth asking
Ugh, well i guess all my questions will be on hold...
But bleh, just as i got it working 99% as i liked it after having it for 4 months.
Oops... wrong forum... meant for the regular HTC universal... hehe guess i've been spending so much time in this one.
don't they have insurance of some kind?
in holland we have something called "WA-verzekering"
if i break my friends phone by accident, i will pay for the damage and, it might be covered by this insurance... depending on the situation.
'playing catch' isnt covered i think..
but accidently push it of the table is...

Didn't your 'friends' offer to pay for the repair?
They could go half each, one for the crap throw and one for not catching it.
Hey guys,
Nope insurance here wouldn't cover something like that, as for offereing to cover the cost... even if they offered i wouldn't let them. $450 would really mess them up for a month or two, but i can afford to take the hit.
I'm so sorry Balur!
It happened to me last summer...
Hey thanks for the sympathy...
Well I just got back from the Roger's store with a nice and simple Nokia 2610. No camera, no music, absolutly tiny.
Swapped the sim, and its working, so I guess it will do.
$300 to PocketPC Techs
$130 for replacement phone without a contract.
$20 for shipping to the repair place...
UGH...
Oh well, i kinda like this little phone, it will be nice when i go to the bar or a club or something, swap the sim rather then taking my Pocketpc and carrying something large, and that i'm afraid of having stolen.
Oh well... lol.
I guess i'll be posting again in a few weeks

Well... welcome to North America... land of entitlement, and bad manners... lol
I bought two so if I broke one at some point I would have spare parts
Woot, fedex man just came, I'm back i the game
Faster then i had thought, kinda funny though since I just bought a cheap small phone so I wouldn't be stranded.
Oh well now I can swap my SIM when I don't want to be carrying my brick (to the bar and such places)

yep, im doing the same.
im using my previous Sony Ericsson P910i as a "party phone". hehe
I went with a Samsung D807x my phone company was ice enough to subsadize it if i signed a 2 year contract (I was month to month), and it worked out anyways becuase the rate plan I wanted required a contract.
LOL.
Its small, its sexy, the quality is pretty good... but... i keep putting my finger on where the antena is... and it causes a hit to quality.
I've been through 3 phones since I sent my universal in though. A cheap pay as you go phone, which i swaped my SIM into, then returned with a week to go becuase it sucked. Also I borrowed a friends piece of crap, then I got that one on Monday, lol.
BLEH!!! 2 dead pixels... gotta send it back... lol
My screen cracked but I haven't fixed it yet. There are repair kits on ebay for ~180 if you're willing to do it yourself... which I am. However, my bank account isn't willing to cough up just yet. haha.
Sorry to hear of your troubles, but I'm glad it got fixed!
I saw the kits, but figured $180 for me to screw up or $250 for a professional to do it...
I decided on the professional
One of the pixels revived (guess it was just stuck), there's one left, always green.
They've agreed to swap screens, but I think I'm going to wait untill Monday and see if this one revives after a few days of usage.
You should be able to contact HTC for the price of fixing it. A friend of mine works in a HTC location in the UK and that office focus mainly on repair.
You can give them a call by finding the numbers on http://www.europe.htc.com/
dead pixels
There is a software to get the dead pixels out. If I find it I'll send you the link but it flashes the screen with different collors to get the dead pixels out. It worked with my MDA screen and never had pixels again.
Program to remove dead pixels
Ok the name of the file is M4V56052.MP4
I have the file so if you PM me your email I'll send it to you. I have to run it like 5-6 times to get the stuck dead pixels out.
I broke my LCD screen last year.
I looked up the parts and ordered an LCD screen strait from China, works perfect. I paid about 70 Euro.
Hi there, I bet you have never seen a raphael in such condition
And yes, my insurance covered it (thank god!!)
do you work for will it blend haha
Well, the phone dropped like 50 meters and two cars ran over it. Did some honorable damage, not far from will it blend
...I could not finish my SMS

Yup, actually they asked me if a train had ran over it (lol), they had never ever seen a phone in so many parts!
I was a bit suprised to see that the battery still had hold it's charge! (Was 90-95% when that happened)
EDIT: You can guess my face btw when i realised what has just happened..
Wow - that's a real bummer. Glad to see you got it fixed. What insurance do you have?
that last picture was after you just changed
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\AutoFix
to 1 right ?
yup, it was the autofix, i just had to solder it on because the phone wouldn't turn on otherwise
About the insurance, it's one you can buy with the phone, the shop that provides such is called Gigantti here in finland, and El Giganten in other northern countries, dont know if you know it.
It costed .. umm.. 70 euros i think and was definately worth it.
omg!!Thats one of the scariest picture I've ever seen!!
I plan to buy my touch diamond soon with almost all the money I earned working for a couple months(which is very precious!), lately it seems like all I hear from people is "oh it might get stolen, or broken" and now I see this!! =O
Never heard of insurance for a phone, seems like a nice idea but I don't think its available here. (Could'nt afford it if it was!~ lol)
*will pray hard before buying the device*
Congrats for your insurance.
So your insurance is going to FIX IT? Right?
Note about insurance...
The insurance we can get with ATT sucks. But I highly recommend to everyone that you check with your homeowners or renters insurance company. Many offer a "PC Rider" for a few bucks a year that covers accidental damage to PC's, laptops, PDAs - anything computer related. Since the Fuze is more PDA than phone, my homeowners covers it... Takes my deductible down to $100 and covers any catastrophic damage. I mention it as something to look into as alot of the people I deal with (PC repair) don't know about it...
Was the SIM card ok..? LOL
It's only a little scratch. It'll polish out.
what were u doing when u dropped the phone? where were u? lucky that thing didn't break someone's window.
You poor bastard. Yesterday i dropped my Touch Pro too ; ; It's only the second day i've had it. I made an ugly ding on the corner and two pretty big scratches on the screen. I didn't even put on my protector yet ; ; I called up att to splat insurance on it the same day. I guess at least i don't have to baby it too much now.
Hey, while you've got it apart, maybe you can see why the left and right directional buttons are so jacked up
what were u doing when u dropped the phone? where were u? lucky that thing didn't break someone's window.
Soon on eBay:
"HTC Touch Pro, like new, minor scratches!"
at the good one you have battery with percent, which app is this?
I just dropped my G Tab for the second time ... and its still alive. Being somewhat a fumble fingers I have accidently dropped my G Tab from a table of three feet or more since I bought it at the end of November. No visible harm externally or internally.
The build quality of this tablet truly impresses me.
Gotta quit dropping it though before it runs out of lives.

That's my fear everyday. Nice to know it has a few lives to it...
As a fellow klutz I am very glad to hear this.
Not that I am going to try it on purpose, but just in case it happens I hope to not be devastated.

Bought my Gtab on Black Friday. Been keeping it updated with TnT Lite, love this device.
A week ago, I bumped it off the counter onto the floor. It landed on a rug, edge-on. From that point, the lower third of the screen (when held in portrait mode) became increasingly unresponsive. I cannot describe the sick feeling this gave me (I have a lot of gadgets, but dont normally get so attached to them).
I searched for my receipt (unsuccessfully), but had the original box and all materials. I called the Sears store I bought it from and talked to the sales lead in Electronics. I simply told him I was having screen issues but didnt have my receipt. Told him I love the device and didnt want my money back, but asked (since it was still within 30 days) if there was some way I could exchange it for a new one....
He said he'd be happy to exchange it. I took it in and was back out with a new one in less than 5 minutes, no questions asked. I even got $20 refunded since the price had dropped. I also picked up the Viewsonic GTab Case for $5.99 (a surprise for the money, since its a decent CaseLogic case).
So.. yes, a fall CAN kill your Gtab, but I do think it's a well made device for the price... heck, a 4 foot fall will destroy most electronic gadgets.
So.. now I absolutely baby this thing... it stays in the case when not in use.
Moral: Be careful with it as you would any other $400 device.

That's exactly why I finally sprung for a 3rd party warranty a device... cover accidental damage(extra charge) as well for 3y... squaretrade.
FBPREVIEW (MIGHT) still get you 30% off... c. $65 total.
(I just know that I'll drop and break the gTab at some point, since I was keeping it I decided that I had better do something about getting a better warranty...)
You're supposed to buy this w/in 30d of purchase, but they might let you slide a little. Also as a caveat, I've heard of squaretrade before and have heard good things about them, but beyond that this is my first experience with them and I have yet to make a claim...

Good information to share with everyone.
I decided against purchasing a warranty because early on I read that assessories for the gtab will be available in early-to-mid Demember. I must be on a different calendar... I'm looking for a fold cover similar to the one they have for that other major brand we don't mention on this forum. I keep holding my breath, but I think I'll be looking at one of the covers available now for temporary use.

Go check out the accessories forum. It looks like Kindle DX cases fit OK, but people seem to be getting random color v. what they ordered, plus one guy said that he couldn't get it to fit right.
Another guy found a Solo case @ Staples for $20 that looked lit it fit well. He posted a video... DX people just had some pix...
Well, I've never bothered w/warranties for my notebooks, but I decided that I had better with the gTab as I find it a bit unwieldly v. a 7", and I've seen several posts before about people who dropped their Pandigital Novels and Augen Gentouches and broke their screens. I was just worried that this one being larger it might be MUCH easier to damage the screen...
Dropped once from 3 feet onto carpet. Survived! Need to buy case ASAP. Need to protect this puppy.
Hi,
This is my first time posting so I will keep it brief. I recently sent in my T-Mobile Nexus S for a dead pixel LCD repair to Samsung. I got it back after 2 weeks and it wouldn't charge or turn on. I called and was told about "electrical mechanical abuse". From what I gathered from customer service representatives was that there was water damage to the micro USB port. I have never dropped it in water. After countless hours of arguing they were pretty adamant about not repairing. My phone was charging and working before I sent it in.
I went to a cellphone repair shop today and they seemed very incompetent. Before I sell it for parts I would greatly appreciate if a Nexus S techie could take a look at my phone near Hartford, CT all the way down to New Haven (I'll drive to you) so that I could get a second opinion. I will pay for any repairs if possible. I greatly appreciate any help. Thank you.
Hi anyone? I just want to make sure that its dead before I sell it. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.
Get a can of Deoxit from RadioShack and spray it into the MicroUSB port. If it's water damage it's probably just got some corrosion on the contacts.
That sucks man ... I bet Samsung idiots didn't have a clue on what the problem is and screwed hahaha.....
Thanks I'll try deoxit and repo back.

Anyways...
I always records that its working + packaging + sending = no screw over...
But I'd say the posy office fudged this one up... rainy day... no insurance...
Always and I mean always package an electronic item securely and water proof seal tight...

Next time my friend. You learn from your mistakes. I took pictures of it in case they scratched it (but they fudged up the entire phone lol) but with the screen off. That wont help much. It was UPS so I'll be filing a claim which I'm sure wont do any good but whatever.
Gahh, I hate getting screwed over, sorry to hear this.
I had a similar-ish situation with my old HTC Legend, took it (to a thrid party) to get the touch-screen replaced, purely cosmetic, there was a long scratch that was bugging me but the phone still worked. They tell me to come back in an hour, so I do.
I come back, the guy says "I'm afraid we're having some problems, the motherboard is fried"
As you can imagine, I'm furious. They say it was probably just waiting to happen and they can't do anything about it. Oh, and apparently I should have read the disclaimer on the website.
I left after an hour of arguing with a broken phone and a little less pride.
The only positive is that I had an excuse to get another phone (my Nexus S), maybe you can get yourself a nice Galaxy Nexus?
Oh, I forgot to add, you could always get damage protection for your next phone, I used these guys but I'm sure there are more options. Pretty decent price for the coverage!
http://www.ensquared.com/
Thanks for the info buddy. I do plan on getting a Galaxy Nexus but I'm not paying more than 400+. So it'll be a couple of months. Before I sold Nexus One and bought Nexus S by putting in $20 more bucks. Now it'll be the full amount again. Till then, I'll try to survive on Motorola Razr (like its 2006) and HP Touchpad with CM9 for emails, texts, etc.
I was just at Radioshack for DeOxit and saw Galaxy Nexus. That phone is slick (not big in your hands at all) and I will end up buying it even though Samsuck fudged me over.
As for DeOxit it didnt work
Off to the ebay "for parts or not working". Thank you for the help guys.
EDIT: Next time I will live with the Dead pixel. Under no circumstances should anyone send phones under "warranties". HTC is the best imo because with Nexus One they sent me a new phone by putting a charge on my card and then I simply sent them the old one.
Hi all, long time listener first time caller and all that...
I thought it would be a good idea to post up here my customer service experience so others can hopefully learn from my mistakes.
I bought a note 3 sim free from phones4u in the uk, when i first used it i tried to install kox, this failed and on to google... many people had this problem, so i called samsung and they said i need an enterprise licence for it - bull sheet
Then i noticed the proximity sensor ddnt work, again a very common fault.
I went to a store within the 28 day exchange period and told it was too late as they are about to close, as i work away abroad i couldnt take it back i the 28 day period so when i finally got to taking it back, i was told it needed to be sent off. This is not true as the sales of goods act entitles me to a replacement due to the faults existing from new.
After much arguing with customer services, i was told tough. I wet in to a store with all my notes and paperwork in hand, they agreed to replace it.
The new phone works fine, the proximity sensor is perfect and guess what... knox works fine.
Goes to show that even samsung tech suppoort even get it wrong, also, phones 4u also think that the sales of goods act does ot apply to them.
I hope this information is useful to someone.
Phones4U here in the UK are notorious for being Idiots. always have been. They are just sharks, you walk in and they swarm around you like the pretty boy who has never had a job does. And yap in your ear, yet you aska technical question and they look at you like sheeeeeet dude knows stuff!
I bought a phone from them many many years ago and had issues with it they wouldn't swap and argued. In the end I won. -- I vowed I'd never buy from them again.
That being said... I bought my HTC One there (red version) as it was cheaper and Red was exclusive to them, and I purchased my Note 3 there (which worked out a tenner cheaper too!) because Carphone warehouse didn't have any in stock.

They were the only place that could sell me the phone sin free. Also the only place to have the s view cover in.
To be fair, the manageress had to go in the back to kick off at head office as they didn't want to swap it out.
Just gutted I updated to MJ7. . . Could have done with rooting it but don't want 0x1 just in case it develops another fault.
Only issue I had with MJ7 was an Android OS drain, which was a launchers fault (which I have since removed), tbh my battery is superb! 30 hours or so average.
As for the KNOX issue, I just went ahead and tripped mine. I dare them to even not replace mine if something goes wrong, EU directive etc, plus I'll make such a stink about it they'll have no other option. So fudge them!!! -- (plus I have insurance in worst case scenerio lol but that has an excess charge...)
Sorry to hear Phones4U are still trading.
