hmm, thats like a ROM chip.
Users are talking about 'cook' a ROM or something, like add or upgrade a new ROM.
So, what does that actually do and why we(users) wish to do?
Does that changes the theme/skin ONLY, or like upgrades the whole device like from XP to Vista?
Does adding ROM means converting WM6 to WM6.1 or something, if so then will WM6.1 be able to run games of WM6.0?
THanks

The ROM is a section of Read only Memory on the NAND chip that can be only updated by flashing it.
The ROM image (nowadays a NBH file) can contain the whole OS, the radio (FW for cell chip), SPL (bootloader) and/or splash screen.
On this site referring to a "ROM" is normally just taking about the OS part. A Cooked ROM is a modifed OS that has extra stuff added or taken away.
So yes, a OS ROM image can update the whole OS from WM6.0 to 6.1 or even 6.5. Whether or not the games works depends on the game, most 6.0 stuff should be forward compatable
Hope this helps

Can I dump my touch with all installed programs, cooking a complete rom including installed programs?
No - that's not possible I Think.
But you can use sprite backup.
It worked perfectly for me when I flashed the ROM back.
But keep in mind that it only will work correctly on the same language of the ROMs.

Here is a trick I have used for quite some times with Sprite Backup 5.1
Sprite Backup version 5.1, version 6.02 is more fancy, 5.1 is good enough.
1. Do a full backup, make sure option Create Self Extract Exec
2. Hard reset (optional)
3. Flash new ROM
4. Run the backup file, make sure the Upgrade Mode Restore Option is Check.
5. Kneel down and pray (optional, or take a cup of coffee).
SKtools is handy.
Step 4 is most important. When it asks you for the upgrade fine, Click None. Minor cleanup unavoidable but heck a lot better than of re-install all the softwares.
Sometimes you may find the machine run slugglish by doing that. I am not sure why.
You may flash the new ROM, re-install all the softwares, see if the machine run faster, but few days later, you will feel it run slugglish. I am not sure why. (The laptop runs runs much faster than once I bought it and take it home and installed with applications.)
So I just keep buying new machines... hahaha
holy moly.
going great at 10% of flashing.
but i feel confident the tute was on the spot.
muchos gracias.
And yes you are right (you didn't say it but you must have thought it), I could have added it myself to WIKI. But just had to try it myself first off course.
And am i right in believing i could have allready replaced some of the graphical files in the dumped "ROM" directory?
Or is it to dangerous at this change because the file size needs to fit?

Next step, getting familiar with hypercore kitchen.
Thanks for this tutorial.
Now i can safely backup my Dutch rom and test some custom ****..

Do NOT change files in the dump directory without proper tools!!!
You will mess up the ROM
When you have a look at the dump directory there are some info files with data for the places in the ROM which need to be recalculated.

Dumping Elf WM6 Italian version ROM
Before trying to put new Rom images, i would like to backup the original one.
I followed the (simply) tutorial, but i'm confused about this step:
"need the ruu_signed.nbh from valid update (extract with winrar)"
Which file do I need?
I don't understand why I need a valid ROM when I'm trying to dump a Rom from my Elf
Can I use an other language ROM version (English, Dutch....) or is needed only an Italian one?
Thx in adv and sorry for my poor english

you need this as a "shell" or "template" because the .nbh files are made in a way that cannot be recontructed (so far I understand - correct me if I'm wrong).
And yes you can use an ROM with another language. I took the Australian ROM - look at the first paragraph "files you need"
This is usually a .exe file that you can extract with winrar (or winzip maybe)
P.S.: your english is not so bad

Don't upload to XDA. I've seen some directories with full roms on FTP. But this is no longer allowed and files will be deleted.
XDA's allready been in trouble with MS about this. So either use third party file sharing or privatly owned FTP.
r0p3..
So to get the radio and SPL do i need to redo first extraction but then for these files? Or are these IPL/SPL?

I don't know yet - I still have to dig in the wiki about that.
It's very dangerous in this area - if you mess up IPL or SPL your baby is usually lost forever. I don't mind about those as long pof's USPL works beautiful.
Radio might be not so critical. But 2.97. is already available - so it would only be for the fun of it

Rapidshare is always booked for free downloads. Do you know of any other place I can download these? Uploading them to the FTP would also be great. My Radio (02.94.90) is totally dead and I'm willing to test any of the 02.97.90 or 03.07.90.
What are the possible downfalls to upgrading the radio version? If the new version doesn't work, is there a chance that the phone can be put back to the original version?
is there a english version of this somewhere? and will this over wright my touch-it 2.3 rom i have? i'm really confused on how to get a radio program for my phone so i can listen to the radio on my t-mobile wing. any advice is welcome thank you

How to get the newest version of CE roe your rom? Maybe im missing something?

Ok any hints or ansewers would be greatly appreciated! How do you guys get the newest versions of CE into your roms?
I am thinking you just get the official roms and use kaiser kitchen to extract them correct? Well so far ive tried the almost official winmo 6.1 rom for at&t, ive tried ddk.05, ive also tried laurentius v9. Everytime i extract these roms all the folders OEM, SYS, and ROM are pretty much empty?! I'm not look'in to rip people off i just want to get a base version of ce wich is compatible with radio 1.65.20.29. The roms in alex's kit 3.03 and 3.02 have alot of issues with the 1.65 radios.
Ive tried everything i can think of, am i acually maybe suppose to dump the rom off the device then rebuild it? Instead of trying to extract from the .nbh?
I mean im assuming all these 3.55 roms were mogul roms at one point right? and they just copied all tytan 2 drivers over?
I also really like ddk.05 i just don't think the page pool is big enough it seems to me whenever i run the page pool tool nothing happens. I select the rom then i click the size then change too and close. But the device always reports the same amount of free memory no matter what i set the page pool too. I like i a huge page pool because i play PocketQuake and it helps speed it up. Going from 18 to 32mb page pool sped quake up 2fps. I dont usually have alot off apps open either.
Problem is that you are trying to cook a ROM from a cooked ROM. Meaning you are taking ROMS like ddk.05 which is already cooked from the member.
Alot of members are using different tools then KaiserKitchen in order to cook their roms which in turn means there will not be any .rgu's or files in many folders.
Your best bet is trying to cook a rom based off of the ATT 19213 version...just type ATT 19213 in search and look for the rom. it should be around 118mb when downloaded and extracted.
Thank you! ill do a search around for that, but im still wondering where they get these new builds of ce, do they just dump them from devices?
Oh shoot i just realized http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391708 is the build your talking about. I already downladed that and then tried to extract it with the kitchen and it was completely empty.
My XDA Live 3 Rom is based on the at&t 19213 Rom and it has the RGU files intact.
As for getting the updated OS, yes they are taking OEM Diamond Roms and extracting the files from there.

Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional Build 23075 for the Apache
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR DEVICE BY FLASHING MY ROM. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Introduction
This is the first in a series of constant ROM updates for this device. Please remember that Windows Mobile 6.5 is still in beta. It's not finalized and thus bugs will be present.
This ROM is meant for the average user. I'm only providing updates for Windows Mobile 6.5 for the Apache as many people have no idea how to build a ROM. It's a minimal ROM, but it WORKS!. You want something more complex? Go build it yourself.
I'm working on this in my free time. Please bare with me with updates and fixes. I'll try my best to keep development going in a timely manner.
ROM Download
Mirror 1: Available soon...
Carrier CAB Download
My ROM is built genericly. This means your phone will lack the necessary carrier software to work correctly on your carrier's network.
These carrier cabs were designed for the Titan, but they work just fine on the Apache:
http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=Titan/carriers/
Select your carrier from that site, download the cab file and run it on your device after you flash this ROM.
Installation
This update will completely wipe your device's memory. Please backup any critical data before attempting to use this ROM upgrade.
The best way to successfully flash a ROM with the Apache is to do so in bootloader mode. To get into bootloader mode do the following:
1) Unplug the device from your PC.
2) With the device on, press and hold the power button.
3) While holding the power button also press & hold the voice memo button (the one on the side that looks like a cassette)
4) Now, while holding the power and voice memo button, insert a stylus or pen into the reset hole on the bottom of the device.
5) If everything was successful the device will now show a screen stating the bootloader version. If not, try again!
6) Reconnect the Apache to your PC and wait for Windows to install drivers for the device.
7) Run the ROM updater posted above.
General Information
If a specific carrier ROM/bootloader specific ROM is needed, please feel free to ask. I'll cook one up and post it here when I get a free moment. As in, if you want a ROM with your carrier support built in...ask me!
If a specific app is requested, tweak, or feature please feel free to message me or post in this thread. I would appreciate feedback as to what to include in the next release. I'm open to any suggestions!

I have a stable ROM of WM 6.5 23075 built. I tested it on my Apache a week ago and all seemed well. I did not bundle any programs with it as it can be quite finicky so I'm taking baby steps.
My Apache died (screen cracked), but I'm willing to keep updating this ROM base with the newest available builds if I get feedback.
You need to have a Verizon device with Bootloader 2.5. If all goes well I will rebuild the ROM to be generic and link to specific carrier cab installation files.
PM me if you want a copy. I don't want the masses installing it just yet.

Building one for you now for Bootloader 1.0/1.01/1.04.
I'm also building a new one for Bootloader 2.02/2.04/2.05.
I've included a few programs I feel are basic and useful:
-HTC Performance
-Arcsoft MMS 5
-Apache Camera App
-Internet Connection Sharing
-Advanced Configuration
-SDHC Card Support
-6 Button Com Manager
-Touchflo Dialer w/ Smartdial (kinda buggy but it works at the moment)
I'm going to work on tweaking the build next. Once I get a stable mix of programs I'm not going to include many more. The Apache is very limited when it comes to memory so less is better.
I'll post it when I have it uploaded for you all.
Thank you cant wait!

Recreate Official T-Mo ROM

I am a noob .... Just trying to get up to speed, so to help me understand this stuff, I have 2 questions.
1. Should i be able to extract an official T-mo wing ROM ...... and then be able to cook it to produce an identical/ almost identical rom to the t-mo stock? I understand there is no point in doing that..... but it helps me understand it better if I know this answer..... plus I was wanting to do that first as a benchmark .... so that I at least know I am doing everything right ... then start making changes from there.
Maybe a simple alternative question, the t-mobile stock rom has t-mobile specific OEM content (my faves for example) in it..... how would you go about extracting then baking that into a custom rom? Is that even possible?
2. when you flash to a signed Rom image nbh file ... What is it replacing (ipl, spl, OS, splash, radio, xip, imgfs)?? all of those things or just certain ones? Do different nbh files replace different compenants or is it consistant to where an nbh file always replaces the same thing?
I see in some of the kitchens... you can bake in your own radio, splash screen, etc... which got mo to thinking .... what will be different with the rom between baking one of those in vs not? It seems like it is optional.
Thanks
i would like a answer to this question myself...im only interested in the part about tweaking the original stock rom..can we beef it up at all?..change the pagepools..ect?

HERE is a kitchen with the only two updates from tmobile, that are considered "stock ROMs;" cook with this kitchen to make a ROM that is with the WM 6.1 builds. This will show you what is involved in cooking a ROM that only has stock - OEM - packages. Also, don't forget to use 'LZX Compression.'
You can find the kitchen that I use HERE. The 23563 build is what I use (for reference). Use this kitchen from my guide to build a ROM with the latest build.
Maybe a simple alternative question, the t-mobile stock rom has t-mobile specific OEM content (my faves for example) in it..... how would you go about extracting then baking that into a custom rom? Is that even possible?
You may be able to extract certain packages from the stock/update 6.1 ROM that you may be able to use in cooking a 6.5 ROM.
2. when you flash to a signed Rom image nbh file ... What is it replacing (ipl, spl, OS, splash, radio, xip, imgfs)?? all of those things or just certain ones? Do different nbh files replace different compenants or is it consistant to where an nbh file always replaces the same thing?
Everything that you'd find in a true/stock update ROM you'll find in a cooked ROM.
I see in some of the kitchens... you can bake in your own radio, splash screen, etc... which got mo to thinking .... what will be different with the rom between baking one of those in vs not? It seems like it is optional.
Unfortunately, I don't use that kind of kitchen. I feel it makes my ROMs a little bit more 'bulky;' my ROMs seem to not compress as well with the newer kitchens, therefore, I don't use these options you're talking about. So, I apologize, I don't really know the answer to this.
Thanks
You're Welcome
