How to get rid of the screen unlock pattern? - G1 Android Development

Hello.
Well in October I have set the screen lock pattern just for fun and haven't used it till now. Now by an oversight I have activated the "Require pattern". Well to be honest I have no idea what my pattern was. Could someone tell me how to get rid of the pattern without wiping the phone or installing a backup with fastboot? I have root access and I would love to see a solution for my problem.
At the moment I have the screen timeout set to "never".
I'm looking forward reading your answers.
Regards

Ok it is easy. Just lock the phone and try the false patterns several times. Until that you will be able to log into the phone with the own google account.

are u sure its ur phone bcoz even if u dont know the unlock pattern u must be knowing the email id and its password assigned with that phone
it asks to login into ur google acc if u forgot pattern...

replace swipe unlock with unlock pattern?

hey guys,
any of you found an app to replace the swipe unlock for the unlock pattern, rather than having both?
not urgent as this is the best phone I've ever had, but would be a nice touch.

You're right... but it's such a shame don't you think... really no need for the swipe, if you have the pattern....
I thought that was the case...
May look into how hard it will be to create an app to do it
The swipe unlock can be replaced with iphone/hero/donut/eclair style unlocking using the lockbot app. So I think an app should be able to solve this (However I'm not capable of making suck apps).
there is a free app called "No Lock" which simply disables the lock screen apparently. If you have the pattern lock underneath this then i guess you would just get that.
i haven't tried this, but just came across it by accident and it reminded me of this thread
Thanks for that, but no luck
It disables both the lock and the unlock screens (if that makes sense)
It is quite handy if you are at home and have the phone on a table and having a text conversation where you keep turning the screen on and off, but not quite what I wanted
I wonder if this is something that could be built on top of to give us what we want, I will email the Dev of this app and see what they say about it.
I will update when I know more
Right then guys, I have had a response from BoD
I sent them this:
Good afternoon,
I have downloaded the no lock app for android. It is great app, however, there are quite a few users of android who would like to see an app that would remove the lock screen but keep the pattern unlock screen or pin screen etc. Im hoping you are open to suggestions, and as you have created the app to remove the lock screens completely (which is pretty much halfway there), I was wondering if you were thinking of creating an app capable of this?
If you are and would like beta testers, I'm sure i could get a few volenteers together to do so.
Thanks,
To which they responded (very quickly too):
Hi!
Unfortunately there is no way (that I know of) to do that currently.
I hope you'll enjoy the app anyway.
Have a nice day,
So.... It looks like they are not aware of how this can be done, IF it can be done, which is a shame.
Thanks sungrad for pointing the app out though
no probs sorry it wasn't much use
it exists in the security settings in the phone (pattern lock ) just enable it

I have the pattern unlock enabled.
The problem is that to unlock my phone now I have the swipe (with the triangle and the curve) and the pattern unlock. I want the pattern unlock to replace the swipe unlock, rather than be requested as well as the swipe unlock.
It's only a minor issue I have, but it does get annoying when you are using it a lot (text conversation etc)

it is really annoying but i have an idea the application mananger if we could know its name we could deactivate it like what they do with htc devices they deactivated htc sense
nobody has a solution for that?
Not exactly what you're after but there are widgets that toggle the unlock pattern off/on. You could toggle the unlock pattern off when texting so you only have to do the swipe. SwitchPro Widget has this feature but I haven't tested it with X10.
EDIT: Found this. It may be what you're after http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.brandongoodman.smartlock
Bump? I just wonder if anyone found a solution to this? I would really want what the OP states
just wanted to add... be careful with the "pattern lock" ... it literally disables your phone after 5 wrong pattern tries. I nearly did a system wipe just to unlock it.. Luckily for me it accepted my email account with "null" for password to re-enable it
I had that no lock app and it looked nice and handy but it messed with the pattern and slide default unlock when I went to uninstall, all I wanted was the pattern but no matter what way I set it,the swipe unlock would always be there, after loads of reboots and setting/unsetting a lock pattern it still did`nt work, this is after I uninstalled, after I dont know how many reboots even when I had the pattern enabled the swipe would come up first then the pattern, sometime only the swipe, it worked itself out, so be cautious of it....

[GUIDE] Pattern Unlock with Exchange Server Security Policy for 2.1 & 2.2

This actually maybe more of a bug than a setting.
1) Do not setup your exchange account settings yet
2) go to menu > setting > security and set a screen unlock pattern
3) set up your exchange account settings and sync
3a) if your server security requires a pin unlock it will ask you now
3b) go ahead and setup a pin
4) now you'll notice when you turn on the screen you have to swipe down with the htc lock screen then a pin then a pattern unlock.
5) install lockpicker and disable the exchange screen password requirement
6) Now you will swipe down then do the pattern unlock
I hated typing in a pin every time i used my phone when i was on WM and find this is a decent alternative.
To change your lock pattern once you have everything set:
"to reset the unlock pattern, simply enter the wrong pattern 5 times, and then login with your google account. As soon as you've done that, then you are prompted for a new pattern." -- kitstable (Thanks!)
Also here's a nice widget to toggle your lock pattern
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.curvefish.widgets.lockpatternonoff
Hope it helps.

Updates for 2.2:
Look at this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655649
Follow the instructions as you will have to run the script to edit the mail.apk or email.apk depending on whether you are using ASOP or Sense client.
I am running this using the vael rom and it works very well.
Exactly what I was looking for thank you.
Thanks for that, just what I was looking for.
I started with a easy pattern, so found this out trying to change it - to reset the unlock pattern, simply enter the wrong pattern 5 times, and then login with your google account.
As soon as you've done that you're prompted for a new pattern.
Thank you.
You can grab Quick Settings off the market, this will allow you to toggle the pattern on and off, and change the pattern.
cant seem to change the unlock pattern with quick settings but putting in the wrong pattern 5 times then changing seems to work. Also found a cool widget called lockpattern onoff that allows you to toggle whether you want your lock pattern or not.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.curvefish.widgets.lockpatternonoff
Very helpful. Thank you.
I followed the directions here and entered the password for Exchange when prompted. I let the screen go and went to unlock, but I didn't have the pattern unlock. I just typed in the password and that is it. Looking at the security settings I now see options for the password and not the visible pattern.
Do have to use a pin for this trick to work? Or did the latest OTA improve security?
You sure you set the patern unlock and verified it worked prior to setting up your exchange account?
With Froyo, I think this functionality is built-in (i.e, you can use pattern unlock for Exchange) without having to go through all the steps mentioned.
I remember being able to do this with one of the CM6 nightly builds.

Yes, I did verify it before syncing with Exchange. I also created a NAND backup before syncing and after verifying pattern unlock. And if I restore I will go back and it will prompt me to pattern unlock before going into phone.
So even though the Exchange guy told me its just a pin, it appears the policy on the mail server is requiring a password, something strong than just a pin. So I think that is why I am unable to make use of this.

are you running 2.1 or 2.2?
I have not tried this, but I am unable to use a pattern unlock by default because of the security requirements. I am only able to use pin/password. I'm on 2.2 rooted now.
What sucks since GOING to 2.2 is that I can't use Swype to unlock the phone. I didn't mind the password since I could draw it with Swype. I hate the password/pin stuff . . . WITHOUT Swype.
Anyway to reenable Swype's use for password entry on 2.2?
lockpicker says its not supported by 2.2. it worked great on 2.1, but i guess the new build really messed it up.
if the dev of lockpicker would make the app work with 2.2, I, and many other would donate pretty good, Im sure.
Or if another dev could make an optionin teh security tab to lock screen after , say, 24 hours of no activity, instead of 15 at teh longest, that would be great...
Just updated first post to reflect some development regarding this feature on 2.2

Swype works fine for me on 2.2. Just this method doesn't seem to work at all for me. I think the requirements from our Exchange policy are on the strict side.
There was a post on xda forums that used adb to go in and change the settings on the phone to force it to do what lockpicker did but this didn't require an app or even a background service to be running. I am unable to find that post now but I wonder if those same adb commands would work on 2.2. If so we wouldn't have to wait for lock picker to be updated and we could get rid of that background service and save some battery life. I can't remember what section it was in and searching returns too many duplicate posts making it very time consuming to look through that mess to find what I am looking for. If i ever find it I will link it in here.
I have this saved at work, I'll test and post it to see if it works.

Screen Lock visible pattern question

Hello,
I set my phone up to use the screen lock pattern option but now I cant seem to get rid of it. I was having problems with NoLED and thought the screen lock was interfering with it so I disabled it but even now when I turn my screen off and on it asked for my pattern. I have to put it in but it no longer seems animated.
Obviously this would be a bug and what I need to do to disable the screen lock now?
Whew! You gave me a bit of a scare just now.
I hadn't set a lock pattern yet, so I did to test this for you. Sure enough, I got the same thing as you.
Set a lock pattern, then un-set it by selecting "none" in the Settings/Security/Screen Unlock section. I was still getting the unlock pattern even though it was supposedly non.
I managed to turn it off by going through the set a new pattern process, then setting it to none after confirming the new pattern. Give that a try.
The other thing you might try is to switch it to a pin and see if the pin can be turned off. (I haven't tried that.)
A 4 day NS user and I didn't even know about noled. What a cool idea to fix the annoying no led problem. Thanks for leading me to the app.

Yeah it is, worked well until I added a few more apps. So if you dont have many apps it works well. There must be a conflict somewhere but cant be bothered trying to figure out what other app is affecting it, still might be the phone lock as well. It could also be gingerbread, NoLED might not be updated for it.

Thanks for that, did the same as you and turned it off. NoLED seems to work properly again. Looks like the lock affects NoLED.

[POLL] Do you use a passcode lock?

Do you use a passcode lock on your phone? If so is it a pattern or password based. Why or why not? I've just been wondering lately. It's becoming more of a hassle not having a reliable timeout for putting in a password.
I wish you could set the passcode lock to come up only every hour and until then it would use the regular lockscreen that can take you directly to texts/missed calls etc.
What do you prefer?
I used pattern lock for a bit when I first got my phone. Then I realized you could see the pattern left by the grease on my fingers. Also very easy for one to watch you and replicate. Same with pin, as far as one watching you. If someone gets ahold of your phone physically, they have access to your sdcard and internal with adb. the only security I use at the moment is, holding on to my phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
I use the non visible pattern lock and Sim lock.
I'll sometimes disable the pattern lock if I'm using my phone heavily but make sure I enable it when I'm done.
I'm a secret squirrel kinda guy. You just can't pick my phone up and read my emails, text, contacts and browser history.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Juice Defender give you the ability to set seperate screen off and lock times? Its full of many other usefull tools as well.
I don't use the locks personally, seems more trouble then I'm willing to deal with. I have the app setup to lock and locate it remotely via SMS if the need be. Besides, what's the worst that could happen other then someone seeing all the porn I have on here.

Juice Defender's lock timeouts never worked right for this specific phone. I looked into it a while back and went with Unlock With Wifi. It worked very well in Froyo in the early versions of the app but with GB and the latest versions it locks on its own randomly even though it's been more than 15 minutes (my timeout at the moment).
Lockscreens are just a hassle :/.
I stopped using the pattern lock when I realized that Odin would get rid of it. I'm sure almost everyone has a friend that knows about how to root phones, so if it's lost, the lockscreen doesn't provide that much protection.
Aside from security, it also doesn't let me use my music player on the lockscreen! It was quite annoying to unlock > access music. Now that I'm using the MIUI lockscreen, it's just turning on the phone and pressing the button.
Btw, for those that might not know, pressing the unlock button twice will open up your music player on the MIUI lockscreen! I found out a few weeks ago! XD
Yes I use the pattern just bcuz it looks cool. Lol. I just wish u could also put one of the EDT tweaks lockscreens and the passcode so i could use the MIUI lockscreen :/

Disable lock screen

Hello all. I have a problem. I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to set my lock screen to 'None'. I've tried:
Disabling fingerprints and fingerprint unlock,
Disabling smart unlock and any trusted agents
Disabling and uninstalling Android Pay and Android Wallet,
Disabling NFC,
I have no VPNs
I have no administrators enabled,
I have cleared my credential storage,
powered off my phone and powered it back on
I do not have any encryption enabled
and still 'None' is grayed out with the "Disabled by Administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage" message.
I just can't think of anything else to try in order to disable the lockscreen. Can anyone please help me?:crying: Thank you for anyone help anyone can offer. I'm desparate!
You seem to have tried everything. Only thing else I can think of is I know sometimes if apps are allowed draw over others, the phone can block some security settings.
Just a suggestion, but if you go into your apps in settings and change it there, maybe it'll work
All I can suggest then is a factory reset unfortunately, I cannot think of anything else to change
Sorry I couldn't be of more help

We have this issue on our Honor 8. It's my son's phone so I can't test possible solutions. One I read was to remove all credentials. Since I don't have the phone, I have no idea where credentials are. Another I read said to create a pattern lock and a pin emergency lock. Use the WRONG pattern 5 times or until it requires the back-up pin. Enter back-up pin then the "none" choice returned. It will be a few more weeks before I have access to the phone. If either works, please report back.
