What's the difference with TouchFlo 2d and PointUi Home? - General Questions and Answers

I am currently using PointUi home, which is an application that skins WM6 or any other smartphones that supports 176x220 and above. Looks good though, but the only problem is that, when you click on "Create New Message" or stuff like that, it opens the actual WM application, which is a bit ugly. This is because that PointUi Home is not actually an OS. Also the same with the iPhone skin theme for touch screen devices.

The photo above is the newest beta of PointUi Home. 1.51a.
Now, about this "TouchFlo 2d", what is the diff? Does it skin the whole WM system, even the apps? or the same with PointUi Home that just skins WM6 and change the Home Screen to be more attracive?

PointUI is an application.
TouchFLO 2D is a very customizable Today Screen Plugin.(need touch screen to get full effect though)
in PointUI i believe there is a setting to change the default taskbar of Windows Mobile to one that is more Non-Windows Mobile-ish.
btw, im moving this to questions and answers since its not device specific.

Oh. Well when i had it on my T-Mobile Wing, it worked flawless.
But i like TouchFLO 2D better

...
TouchFlo 2D is an HTC interface which is made to easy the use of the Touch Phones. It is mainly written inside of the ROMS but can be "skinned" on the Windows Mobile, but I noticed performance is not at all the same. Point UI in my opinion is....mediocre, respectively. I prefer TouchFlo over anything out there, don't wanna change your ROM?, try the one in the Development area which has like 10 parts to the install, it is a little bit of a hazzle.
For people who don't wanna be messing around with their phones: SPB Mobile Shell. Fast, easy and powerful, bug free too.

Just continue to use the Eten dialer it's what I use. I use one from PaulyA and it works fine with WM6.

do you have the cab file for the dialer? I've done some reading and some of the eten dialers have messed up on wm6...
Try this one
If you like it....I think it will work with your wizard
mike19722:
tried that one and itbut not digging the look (or just maybe not used to it)
rkwhyte2:
thanks man... I installed it and it works..... ahh nice to have the orange background and large buttons
I prefer the black htc touch dialer with smart dialing:

Combined with the windows mobile black theme (wmbe) my wizard looks pretty sleek:
Why buy a new HTC Touch if you can have an upgrade for free?
If nobody buys then nobody dumps the ROM then nobody extracts the cab then you look ordinary.
My Wizard won't last forever which forces me to replace it some day. There's nothing wrong with postponing...
Then again my Wizard was expensive enough so don't try to make me feel guilty.
My next device needs to be futureproof min 1gHz CPU so I can screw up the warranty and run XP.

Why does our 6.1 have a different Today screen?

Hi, just wondering why all the ROMs on here for WM 6.1 don't use the new WM 6.1 Today screen seen elsewhere?

This is just a guess, but the link you provided said that the device they were using was a "Samsung Blackjack II" which is a smartphone (non-touchscreen).

You are perfectly right.
Thats for Smartphone, not PocketPc.
Why not Pro? This looks pretty good!
Why wouldn't they make this available for Professional? This looks pretty good to me...just my opinion. Why would they make the smartphone version have functionality that the Pro. version can't have?

Smartphone's handle Today screens very differently to PPCs. With a PPC, you have a theme that controls the background image and colours, then you have individual Today plug-ins that you can move and control independently.
With a Smartphone, you install the theme and that determines the background image, colour, and EVERYTHING that is displayed on the front screen - it sets where your unread messages notification goes, where your missed calls display, etc. You cannot install anything else onto your front screen, you'd have to make and install a different theme. This makes an integrated, attractive front screen easier to make on a Smartphone, but makes personalising yours a lot harder.
I think what MS is trying to do with this aspect of WM6.1 is make the Smartphone front end more user-friendly and, crucially, useful so you don't have to go delving into the menus to do things (that we can already do on PPCs by downloading a plug-in). I've reading this as MS's attempt to bring the Smartphone's front screen closer to the usablility of the PPC's, rather than it moving ahead.
[disclaimer] I haven't looked at a Smartphone since I moved from my Typhoon to my Magician, so it might've all changed since my day! [/disclaimer]
Here you can see the different devices thats running mobile 6.1
You see the TyTn II at 5 minutes

Windows Mobile/PPC Shell's

Hi,
Been doing some research on Windows Mobile/PPC shells.
So far I have tried the following.
1.

HTC Home with SPB Mobile shell HOME icons only. (only way i know how to get icons on my home screen was via spb..)
I mainly use this right now.
2.
I tried out ThrottleLauncher's TouchFlo3D
IT IS OKAY, not bad actaully. Still some issues. But not bad at all.
3.
Winterface, wow i really love this.
My major issue is, it has no today plug-in so I always find myself back at the windows today screen all the time.
Other lame issue is their SMS app and contact app and photo app, they could have integrated those standalone apps way better into a single product.
Overall vito's app suite looks promising.
Anyhow,
My question is what other mobile shells are there? Is there anything out there close to winterface but better? I really like it. Overall anymore finger friendly things? Post/link me to other apps. Please give me thoughts.... and ideas...
For iPhone interface look-a-like, iFonz.

Today Life is very good & finger friendly, developing fast.

and then there is spb mobile shell, which isn`t free + lots and lots of others.
thanks
Thank you for the suggestions.
I already use SPB Mobile. Paid for it and vito suite.
Anyhow keep suggestions/apps coming. Hopefully down road someone else will find this thread useful.
Any others?

WOW, that is not bad

Not a bad thread, nice to have all the various options laid out.
As you have HTC's Home plugin for the Today screen included, you may also want to add Pocket Digital Clock (just a nice, lightweight clock) in combination with your launcher of choice such as UltimateLaunch or MortButtons.
yepp
That is the idea of this tread so one day some newbie can look at the work i already did for them. Also hoping others will contribute.

Oups
sorry repeated post
Im talking about shells not specfic app so much but thanks for the suggestion.
Becomes kind of blurred as most of the apps that are or are going to be listed are typically just a clock with an app launcher.
I was going to start a thread... regarding
"windows mobile finger friendly apps'
starting a list of applications like this...
but i found a website http://www.touch-innovation.com/
It does not list free ones... so anyone want to add on apps to this list free or paid? besides ones on the site.

This is what I have running from top to bottom;
Pocket Digital Clock - http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/pdc
tdLaunchY - http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-tdlaunchy-v1-6.html
Sun'n'Moon - http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-sunnmoon-v1-2.html

And ofcourse the Theme allblack.tsk
(unzip and copy to Windows Directory) Start Menu -> Settings -> Today, 1st tab
i don't usually do this, but i'm going to give you my opinion on that today screen:
- MESSY
- you need to use a stylus for those little icons
- you have softkey buttons "5678" THEN "1234" ...why?
Personally, i believe the Diamond 2 is "new age" enough to use a bit of eye candy.
My first PPC (iMate Pocket PC) had a "prettier" look that this.
Sorry for the negative critique :/
do you realy like this screen?
I do like it for the moment LOL
You must know that TMobiel statically 'froze' manilla on my Topaz cq making it nearly impossible to alter it in any way! It is a horrible interface. I didn't even bother to make a screenshot(!), because after 2 and a half hours I deactivated TF3D, took the stylus out and never looked back.
Now and than I do switch to different today plugins and must admit that tdLaunchY has kinda tiny icons <g>
Well I'll give Easy Today Launcher a try. It has more of a finger friendly look

have you not considered flashing a new ROM onto your device? that way you could do what you want! (trust me, TF3D is GREAT when it runs smoothly!)
good luck (if you're worried about flashing a cooked ROM, you can gladly PM me, it's easy)
I also do not use TF3D or ... I use SPB pocket plus and some nice today plugins and base today may also look nice. .. all aplication I use are one or max two click without stylus!!! ...and make changes is quite simple. The system responds and works quickly ... I have a phone for work and efficiency and speed control is important to me than a complicated adjustable slow TF3D.

Where's the Notification Area/System Tray in WM 6.5?

New here, first post. Looks to be a very informative site! Excited to get my hands on WM 6.5.1 and Manilla/Sense 2.5 ROMs.
Anyway....where is the System Tray in WM 6.5? You know, the icons that show at the bottom of the screen on WM 6.x (before 6.5) when you have certain applications open? Such as AIM, PDAnet, etc.. I don't see it on my Imagio (Manilla), or in the 6.5 emulator. Manilla does provide the helpful running-apps menu, however.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
It's on the today screen (disable chome or manila).
Hmm, I'm not seeing it on the today screen. Is it possible that it's not enabled? Maybe I'm missing something, do you have a screenshot?

Well, there are only a few apps that show the icon. Dotfred's task manager does if you uncheck "no icon in tray." Also, mymobiler does it if select the option to show it. The only other app I have that I can do it with is SK Today Commander, but it also has a plugin, so the icons are redundant and kind of fugly to boot (the #'s are the plugin).

Ah, but you're not using WM 6.5, you're using 6.5.1 or some modified version. I'm talking with straight 6.5, there is no tray area. Also with Manilla there is no tray area, apparently.
I'm using 28002 (6.5.3), but trust me, it's there in 6.5.0 builds, too. You have to disable CHome in the home/today settings (windows default in the check list) and just use the regular Today screen to see it. The other plugins like CHome and Manila cover it up. It's still there, you just can't see it because the UI is a Today overlay. For whatever reason, I prefer the Today screen over all the other UI's available. I don't like finger scrolling so much to find things.
Ah! I didn't realize the new default home screen was called CHome. Disabled that and now I see the normal Today screen, complete with the Tray icons. Thanks!
