Where's the Notification Area/System Tray in WM 6.5? - General Topics

New here, first post. Looks to be a very informative site! Excited to get my hands on WM 6.5.1 and Manilla/Sense 2.5 ROMs.
Anyway....where is the System Tray in WM 6.5? You know, the icons that show at the bottom of the screen on WM 6.x (before 6.5) when you have certain applications open? Such as AIM, PDAnet, etc.. I don't see it on my Imagio (Manilla), or in the 6.5 emulator. Manilla does provide the helpful running-apps menu, however.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

It's on the today screen (disable chome or manila).

Hmm, I'm not seeing it on the today screen. Is it possible that it's not enabled? Maybe I'm missing something, do you have a screenshot?

Well, there are only a few apps that show the icon. Dotfred's task manager does if you uncheck "no icon in tray." Also, mymobiler does it if select the option to show it. The only other app I have that I can do it with is SK Today Commander, but it also has a plugin, so the icons are redundant and kind of fugly to boot (the #'s are the plugin).

Ah, but you're not using WM 6.5, you're using 6.5.1 or some modified version. I'm talking with straight 6.5, there is no tray area. Also with Manilla there is no tray area, apparently.

I'm using 28002 (6.5.3), but trust me, it's there in 6.5.0 builds, too. You have to disable CHome in the home/today settings (windows default in the check list) and just use the regular Today screen to see it. The other plugins like CHome and Manila cover it up. It's still there, you just can't see it because the UI is a Today overlay. For whatever reason, I prefer the Today screen over all the other UI's available. I don't like finger scrolling so much to find things.

Ah! I didn't realize the new default home screen was called CHome. Disabled that and now I see the normal Today screen, complete with the Tray icons. Thanks!

What's the difference with TouchFlo 2d and PointUi Home?

I am currently using PointUi home, which is an application that skins WM6 or any other smartphones that supports 176x220 and above. Looks good though, but the only problem is that, when you click on "Create New Message" or stuff like that, it opens the actual WM application, which is a bit ugly. This is because that PointUi Home is not actually an OS. Also the same with the iPhone skin theme for touch screen devices.

The photo above is the newest beta of PointUi Home. 1.51a.
Now, about this "TouchFlo 2d", what is the diff? Does it skin the whole WM system, even the apps? or the same with PointUi Home that just skins WM6 and change the Home Screen to be more attracive?
PointUI is an application.
TouchFLO 2D is a very customizable Today Screen Plugin.(need touch screen to get full effect though)
in PointUI i believe there is a setting to change the default taskbar of Windows Mobile to one that is more Non-Windows Mobile-ish.
btw, im moving this to questions and answers since its not device specific.

Oh. Well when i had it on my T-Mobile Wing, it worked flawless.
But i like TouchFLO 2D better
...
TouchFlo 2D is an HTC interface which is made to easy the use of the Touch Phones. It is mainly written inside of the ROMS but can be "skinned" on the Windows Mobile, but I noticed performance is not at all the same. Point UI in my opinion is....mediocre, respectively. I prefer TouchFlo over anything out there, don't wanna change your ROM?, try the one in the Development area which has like 10 parts to the install, it is a little bit of a hazzle.
For people who don't wanna be messing around with their phones: SPB Mobile Shell. Fast, easy and powerful, bug free too.

Searched, Read Wiki, Experimented, still need help changing themes

Hi all,
Been on the forum for a couple of months. It's been a great learning experience. I Have a Touch Pro and have Downloaded and installed ROMeOS2 v1.50.4 B1208 and flashed the radio to 1.02.25.28 Raphael (better than .32 version for me which I flashed to first).
I have also installed Diamond TF3D Config 0.6.7 and attempted to install new themes.
Here's my problem - no matter which theme I install - I can't change the red "flame" background on the home screen. I've spent several hours looking around, searching to no avail. It's time to ask.
What am I not doing?! Or doing wrong?
Thanks much,
David
tf3d settings tab (like a gear cog), tap wallpaper, use default.
edit: assuming you've already changed theme and the home tab is the only thing you are having an issue with.
from what i'm reading, might be just my interpretation, but it sounds like you're simply just havign a problem with the wallpaper, not the theme? isn't the simple fix as venelar described, and using whichever wallpaper you want (assuming you have a wallpaper you'd like to use and know the file location)
Yes, It is wallpaper I cannot seem to change. Where is
tf3d settings? I can't find the settings icon in programs, accessories, settings, etc - I've looked everywhere!
its a tf3 tab. generally all the way to the right. has the communications stuff on it that you press to go into comm manager to turn on off wifi/bluetooth etc..

You looked everywhere, but must have missed the Settings tab in TF3D.
When you are on your TF3D homepage, go to the settings tab (by sliding your thumb to the right untill you get to the tab named 'Settings').
On that tab there is a rule stating: Wallpaper. It is the third option on the settings tab. I bet its even explained in the manual .

Disable TouchFLO messaging

I like 99.9% of the current TouchFLO setup, but the messaging is awful.
Is there a registry key I can hack to disable the frontend for SMS, so when I click a message on the home screen, it goes directly to that message in the stock WM app?
which touchflo is this?
It says version 3.0 (build 31807).
The thing I want to disable is this screen when I choose an individual message from the home screen. I'd like it to jump to that conversation in the WM stock client like it did in earlier versions of TouchFLO (like what the Fuze has stock).

I would like to disable it...
i dont want to disable it, but i would like to limit the number of sms it shows.... it work well on most of the contact, but when i want to see the sms from one of my friend take a lot of time to open....
is possible to limit the message to 5 or 10?
thanks!

Hi there
i also would like to have the old threaded style, like the one available on htc hd for example. What i don't like about the new one is that i can't select text or phone the a number included in the message body. I receive several messages like this " Please phone John 078 17......1 for laptop sreen replacement." On the HTC hd i would just click on the number and i would have the option to either call or save the number.
Also the new version lacks a bit of performance to load the conversation.
I have been searching for days and i couldn't find any existent solution. I believe there will no be registry key to be changed, and therefore will be necessary changing code in the tf3d. I wouldn't mind trying myself, but so far i couldn't find also a step by step to change the code.
Kind regards

How can i get a homescreen like this ?

Is it from a new version of TouchFlo?
I really like the 3 "add Shortcut" icons, maybe there is a cab, to get it to work like that.

Well my friend if you like shortcuts...may be you consider SPB mobile shell 3.01....
YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE IT THE WAY YOU WANT IT, PLACING THE SHORTCUTS THAT YOU NEED AND USE MOSTLY. THE CHOICES ARE ENDLESS...LOOK INTO IT , YOU WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO MANILLA...BELIEVE ME!!!
here is my home page on it shortcuts that i use all the time including my 2 preferred contacts
and by the way that my baby Kiara
Looking nice
But i haved tried mobile shell, it´s ok, but i more like touch flo.
So i hope to find a program or tweak there can do it.
You might want to take a look at this ROM:
[14 Aug][WWE] udK Leo R1 WM6.5 - Build 21840.5.0.60 - Base v2.08 - Hero UI Manila 2.6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524224
I've been using it and it's fantastic. You have the shortcuts (actually you scroll it, so instead of just 3 you have 9). Other details in this ROM make it a great experience. I don't feel like going back to 6.1 after using it, still needs some bugs to be fixed, but you can give it a try.
I use the shortcuts for:
1- Enabling Bluetooth (CicleBT)
2- Toggle Wifi On/Off
3- Gmail shortcut
Hope this helps you
It's 2.5....

You realise of course that getting this home screen involves first Hard SPL for your phone and then flashing the new ROM. Tom Codon has a 2.5 ROM that is not particularly buggy - I find it fine for day to day use you can find it at http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=274

This is what I have running from top to bottom;
Pocket Digital Clock - http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/pdc
tdLaunchY - http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-tdlaunchy-v1-6.html
Sun'n'Moon - http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-sunnmoon-v1-2.html
Windows Live - WindowsLive_0409.PPC2005_arm.cab
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=E4510356-4B0B-4E9C-AB38-7C19F55DF5D3&displaylang=en
And ofcourse the Theme allblack.tsk
(unzip and copy to Windows Directory) Start Menu -> Settings -> Today, 1st tab
i don't usually do this, but i'm going to give you my opinion on that today screen:
- MESSY
- you need to use a stylus for those little icons
- you have softkey buttons "5678" THEN "1234" ...why?
Personally, i believe the Diamond 2 is "new age" enough to use a bit of eye candy.
My first PPC (iMate Pocket PC) had a "prettier" look that this.
Sorry for the negative critique :/
do you realy like this screen?
I do like it for the moment LOL
You must know that TMobiel statically 'froze' manilla on my Topaz cq making it nearly impossible to alter it in any way! It is a horrible interface. I didn't even bother to make a screenshot(!), because after 2 and a half hours I deactivated TF3D, took the stylus out and never looked back.
Now and than I do switch to different today plugins and must admit that tdLaunchY has kinda tiny icons <g>
Well I'll give Easy Today Launcher a try. It has more of a finger friendly look

have you not considered flashing a new ROM onto your device? that way you could do what you want! (trust me, TF3D is GREAT when it runs smoothly!)
good luck (if you're worried about flashing a cooked ROM, you can gladly PM me, it's easy)
I also do not use TF3D or ... I use SPB pocket plus and some nice today plugins and base today may also look nice. .. all aplication I use are one or max two click without stylus!!! ...and make changes is quite simple. The system responds and works quickly ... I have a phone for work and efficiency and speed control is important to me than a complicated adjustable slow TF3D.
