Hi,
Been doing some research on Windows Mobile/PPC shells.
So far I have tried the following.
1.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
HTC Home with SPB Mobile shell HOME icons only. (only way i know how to get icons on my home screen was via spb..)
I mainly use this right now.
2.
I tried out ThrottleLauncher's TouchFlo3D
IT IS OKAY, not bad actaully. Still some issues. But not bad at all.
3.
Winterface, wow i really love this.
My major issue is, it has no today plug-in so I always find myself back at the windows today screen all the time.
Other lame issue is their SMS app and contact app and photo app, they could have integrated those standalone apps way better into a single product.
Overall vito's app suite looks promising.
Anyhow,
My question is what other mobile shells are there? Is there anything out there close to winterface but better? I really like it. Overall anymore finger friendly things? Post/link me to other apps. Please give me thoughts.... and ideas...
For iPhone interface look-a-like, iFonz.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369241
Today Life is very good & finger friendly, developing fast.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407900
and then there is spb mobile shell, which isn`t free + lots and lots of others.
thanks
Thank you for the suggestions.
I already use SPB Mobile. Paid for it and vito suite.
Anyhow keep suggestions/apps coming. Hopefully down road someone else will find this thread useful.
Any others?

WOW, that is not bad
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364344
found another
Not a bad thread, nice to have all the various options laid out.
As you have HTC's Home plugin for the Today screen included, you may also want to add Pocket Digital Clock (just a nice, lightweight clock) in combination with your launcher of choice such as UltimateLaunch or MortButtons.
yepp
That is the idea of this tread so one day some newbie can look at the work i already did for them. Also hoping others will contribute.

Oups
sorry repeated post
Im talking about shells not specfic app so much but thanks for the suggestion.
Becomes kind of blurred as most of the apps that are or are going to be listed are typically just a clock with an app launcher.
I was going to start a thread... regarding
"windows mobile finger friendly apps'
starting a list of applications like this...
but i found a website http://www.touch-innovation.com/
It does not list free ones... so anyone want to add on apps to this list free or paid? besides ones on the site.
rL today - It's a customizable XML based multi purpose plugin..

I used to use CLaunch all the time, and then changed to Pocket Plus about a year ago.
Is there anything else out there that lets you put icons on the today screen and have both large, and small icons?
I don't need tabs, but I do need several icons.
I am happy to lose the battery and memory card status, because there are already several plugins that do that for free.
yes mate ilauncher best one imo,runs smooth small foot print and looks good
The Lightest one would be O2 shortcuts though there is Not much Customising you can do Like Changing the Icons or Sizes..
O2 Plus SHORTCUTS on the TODAY SCREEN (below)

A better option would be to go for I Launcher

Note the Tray launcher which is a part of ILauncher (below)

Another Great Utility..SPB POCKET PLUS
Neat Tabs. many options, Resizing, Renaming, Changing Tab Icons, Changing Icon Size..almost everything..Plus a Host of other features which are a part of the package....
SPB PLUS (BELOW)
Since U said "I don't need tabs, but I do need several icons. "
Here's something for U !!
In case U have ample resources and U want to experiment with something Real Innovative...
U can try WISBAR ADVANCED DESKTOP and Other VIRTUAL PAGES (Below)
YOu can also Try to Mix N Match(Below)

OK, I have had a play with the options, and I think Wisbar Advanced Desktop looks like the one I may go for.
I like the way I can include Pocket Plus elements, and so many other things.
Although I didn't like tabs, I do really like having different desktops. One for my mail and calendar notification with GPRS/UMTS status, and another with all my icons.
Really nice interface, but seems quite buggy, so I might wait and see what the next version brings before I blow any cash on it.
Thanks
You may want to read my roundup & comparison of all Today launchers (not just the ones listed above). Please see the links HERE, in the Recommended links section.
Old still working here
I am currently using PointUi home, which is an application that skins WM6 or any other smartphones that supports 176x220 and above. Looks good though, but the only problem is that, when you click on "Create New Message" or stuff like that, it opens the actual WM application, which is a bit ugly. This is because that PointUi Home is not actually an OS. Also the same with the iPhone skin theme for touch screen devices.

The photo above is the newest beta of PointUi Home. 1.51a.
Now, about this "TouchFlo 2d", what is the diff? Does it skin the whole WM system, even the apps? or the same with PointUi Home that just skins WM6 and change the Home Screen to be more attracive?
PointUI is an application.
TouchFLO 2D is a very customizable Today Screen Plugin.(need touch screen to get full effect though)
in PointUI i believe there is a setting to change the default taskbar of Windows Mobile to one that is more Non-Windows Mobile-ish.
btw, im moving this to questions and answers since its not device specific.

Oh. Well when i had it on my T-Mobile Wing, it worked flawless.
But i like TouchFLO 2D better
...
TouchFlo 2D is an HTC interface which is made to easy the use of the Touch Phones. It is mainly written inside of the ROMS but can be "skinned" on the Windows Mobile, but I noticed performance is not at all the same. Point UI in my opinion is....mediocre, respectively. I prefer TouchFlo over anything out there, don't wanna change your ROM?, try the one in the Development area which has like 10 parts to the install, it is a little bit of a hazzle.
For people who don't wanna be messing around with their phones: SPB Mobile Shell. Fast, easy and powerful, bug free too.

Hi all,
I recently got my HTC Touch HD and I needed some help to do with Task Switching.
I've noticed that when I've got more then one application open, it's a long
process switching from one to the other.
Is there any application that can make doing this easier. I'm not particularly
after freeware, I'm just after the best/efficient application that can do this so I don't mind paying for any applications.
I've seen Task Facade here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420220
But it seems buggy from what I've read.
If there's an application that can imitate what CTRL+TAB does on a PC, that
would be even better LOL.
Thanks
I think wktask is the best option: http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html
It's super quick switching between apps, works like on your PC.
Cheers for the reply owziee
WkTask seems like a really good solution and it makes Windows Mobile feel
much more like the desktop version of Windows OS's.
The thing I'm not too keen on is how it has the name of the application
next to the icon in the taskbar. It's taking up all that space for no reason.
If I have loads of applications open, I think it'll end up looking quite ugly.
Also, I don't really need the Launcher part of the application, is there an
option to turn it off?
Other than that, this is probably the best Task Switcher I've seen so far
running on Windows Mobile.
Any other suggestions people
Thanks once again owziee

Is there anyway to get rid of the names next to the applications in the taskbar?
Also can all the other features be turned off cos I don't think I'll be using them
much. Thanks for all your help.

If you change the display to "Icon" mode (out of the choices: Mixed/PC/Icon) that should do the trick. I think it may still show the text next to the active task but only that.
People, Please STOP ANSWERING QUESTIONS IN THE DEV&HACK FORUM
Sorry, I hadn't realised I posted this thread in the wrong section
Anyway's has anyone tried Quickmenu?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340358
I'm not sure whether this is also a task switcher because it seems to only
have the exit icon next to open programs in the screenshots so I'm not sure
how you would switch from application to application using this application.
i'm using Pocket Plus (SPB) It has a task switch option as well. A little pop-up window showing active applications. I have it set up to be activated with a hardware button.
bell ui taskbar menu is working awesome for me for switching tasks
I have the same problem - every task switcher I've ever used either has tiny menus that aren't a good fit for a mobile platform (WkTask, QuickMenu), or are really slow (Task Facade). The best I've found in terms of compromise between the two are FDCSoft's TaskSwitcher, and the task manager built into MortButtons. TaskSwitcher is uglier but faster, MortButtons is prettier but slower.
I'm searching for a certain PIM. Now I'm using Agendus Profesional editio. It's a great one but it's working too slow and it's going on my nerves! If you know what to do to make it work faster, please tell me (but I doubt if anyone knows this )
Well there is only one condition which a PIM must have, a week block view with the possibility to display different appointment categories in different colors or with different icons. Here is a picture what does it look like in Agendus Pro
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Well the Outlook Calender on WM 6.0 has this great week view but it doesn't have the feature to mark different categories. I would be really happy If anybody would have or know a hack or knows what to do about it. I know the registry hack to display names of appointments in the block but it doesn't come in handy.
I've tried out:
- Pocket informant 8 - it has the week block view but it sux!
- Agenda One
- Agenda Fusion
- SBSH Calendar Touch 2
- SBSH PocketBreeze
- Spb Diary
(The last two are actually today plugins, but can be used also as PIM)
Thanks for your help folks
Still no suggestions?
Oh I see. xda developers is another forum where no support is given on a tiny bit complex questions. All this cream de la cream developers of software for mobile units here on xda and no answer, how pityful for such a well known site. They are breaking up HTC's and Cooking ROM's, do lot's of great stuff, but no one tried to write something for this damn outlook calendar to display categories in colors! No rather then that they are always playing with this TouchFlo crap and so on...
Oh well. Thanks =P
It may well be that there is nothing else to work the way you want and instead of a series of "Sorry don't know" ,people are staying quiet. I was one.
Personally i use ThumbCal, doesn't do colours but does do diary stuff well and is finger friendly.
1 and a half year in this forum and 5 posts.... Whats YOUR contribution to the site buddy? May be you could have tried what you are looking for and shared it with us?
Think before judging....
Just a suggestion, no offence intended
Thank you deedee, but unfortunately I've already tried this out. It's really a great PIM or better to say calendar, but I really miss the week view :aww:

jup you're right, I don't do much on this forum. But even if my contribution to this forum would be bigger I seriously doubt that it would be a bit better with answers to my questions ;P
Does anyone know of a today screen plugin for Windows Mobile 6.1 similar to this? I just basically want to be able to see how many missed calls, texts, emails, and voicemails I have. I can't seem to find one, and I've spent a good amount of time searching already, and all that pops up are today screen replcements like TF3D/Sense, SBP Mobile, PointUI etc, and all I want is a basic today screen notification plugin that looks simple as the Titanium one. Any thougts? Any thoughts, contributions? Much appreciated from this fine community!
Why don't you just use the Titanium?
Dude this is a WM 6.1!! Titanium is added @ WM 6.5 and 6.5.X
Use a Resco Contact Manager:

You can configure rlToday to do that (and a bunch of other stuff), but it will take a little work.
Try Elecont Launcher
PhoneAlarm is one possibility. Does what you ask, looks the way you want it to and much more. The forum won't allow me to post a link to the site (I'm a noob) google Pocketmax and look at phoneAlarm.
Moved as not software release.

Looks great, but doesn't use the native applications for contacts, messages, etc. This was the closest to what I was looking for though.

True, but I'd rather stick with the built in plugins then, time doesn't permit for me to delv into that stuff really. Thanks for the suggestion though, might look into it when I have time.

Anyways, all great suggestions for 6.1, it's kinda sad to see 6.1 development just die off because 6.5 is out, I'm sure there's still quite a few of us that prefer 6.1 to 6.5 in some ways.
EDIT: Found my answer, SPB PhoneSuite does exactly what I want. Paired with Traveler, it makes 6.1 a pretty enjoyable homescreen with the right theme. Wish someone would make an app for 6.1 to create themes.
