rom cooking noob, stuck at the deconstruction of a rom - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

i went through the rom cooking tutorials (they were great actually), but where i am stuck is on the question that do we need the oem packages in case i am only reconstructng an old rom? Say for example, I use dutty's rom (only for an example, no offense please) and want to add some new packages to it, do i still need all the packages and other stuff from the kitchen or just the dutty's rom and the new package will do? Also what will happen if i just want to update an old package, can i do it easily? i didnt get these answers in the tutorials...do you know if they are already there?

bump....sorry...

changing tmobile extended rom for vodafone

Ok, i have spent ages trying to do something that i am sure is possible but i just can't get my head round it.
I have installed the latest t-mobile rom, no problems.
I know how to view the extended rom but i want to change this for the vodafone extended rom,
I know that ican install the voda rom cabs afterwards to remove the tmobile stuff but i want to do it permantly so that everytime i do a hard reset its all done automatically.
Should i be able to download a rom that is already altered like this anywhere?
If this makes any sense to anyone i would appreciate any help because i just don't know where i am going wrong...
Thanks
Why don't you install vodafone version instead ? (the german version)
Hi
check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36220
i did the same but with a Qtek EXT Rom, download the latest Vodafone Update you can find, then just replace the EXT Rom file from the Tmobile or other update and replace it for the one you want, run normal update procedure and voila
Thanks for the replies, compumad, i can't seem to see your file on the ftp site?
I understand what you are saying etc but i'm afraid i don't understand how to do this at all.
What i need is some very friendly and clever person who is not so lazy as me  to make the rom for me (it is christmas after all).
Failing that i might just give in and buy a new phone on contract and stop playing about with them!! lol.
cheers

Place for Newbs to get Started-Want Tilt to Look Like Touch

Any advice? I am new to this whole thing. Have done some overclocking and what not on my PC, but this is a whole different game.
What types of things can I do without risking really f'ing things up?
What I hope is the simplest things I was hoping to do was to make my TILT screen look like the HTC Touch.
I thought about downloading Dutty's tweaks, but I am thinking I might be out of my depth starting out.
I would like to learn some things, but don't want to annoy the veterans that are here. Any direction would be appreciated.
Thank you.
What you could do is read, all the post people have put to do exactly what your asking. All the info is there you just need to search and read or use the wiki.
Have fun

Thank you.
Download and run HardSPL on your phone from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Then choose a dutty rom to install, since you are on a tilt try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345385&highlight=dutty+tilt
This is all you have to do to have a fully functional htc looking rom with the touchflo cube with the newest drivers and radio for AT&T. I am using this one on mine right now. This rom has everything that you will probably need already installed. Anything else will just be for personal preferences. This rom has an advanced config program which is great but also download kaisertweak for some nice settings.
Thanks for keeping it simple for the newb. I read a couple of things about the "radio" portion being an issue. What does the "radio" tweak mean and will a HARD RESET fix problems if I decide to revert back?

The radio that comes with this rom will be the one you need. A hard reset only reinstalls the rom you currently have on the phone so to revert back you will have to choose another rom and install it. As long as the rom you install is an AT&T one or one made for the tilt then you won't have to do anything with the radio. If you change and use an HTC ship rom or one of dutty's other roms then you will have to download another radio and install it. Radios self install the same way as roms do.
This is the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
On this page is the link to the ftp area where you could download the older radio if you decided to go to a non tilt rom.
Did you have any keyboard problems when doing the HARDSPL and installing the dutty rom. Also, which of the dutty roms did you install? Beta 2?
I am still on the Beta 1 and have been too lazy to changeover yet as Beta 1 is solid.
If you really want a good "How To" check out Mr. Van X:

Every place he says "Hermes" you just think "Kaiser" or "Tilt". All the steps are the same. It is a great walk-through. He has you download the .net framework first. I know I didn't have it. Then he steps you through hardSPL and finally the ROM.
A few weeks ago I followed this exactly and have never had any troubles. Why a walk-through like this is not in the Wiki for the Kaiser/Tilt I have no idea. It'd be a lot more helpful to newbs (like myself) than the forum fav response, "Read Dammit".

Why don't you write an entry for the wiki? That's how the Wiki is updated and maintained, by contributions by everyone.

I just used HardSPL and Dutty's Hybrid Rom No 5. I'm not sure what the difference is from his Tilt Beta version but I tried both and decided to go with the Hybrid. Point is, until last night I did not know what a Rom was. I read the forum and followed the directions. Here are links to what I used.
HardSPL (you need to do this first). Everything you need to know is in the first post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Then find a ROM. I downloaded several including the stock ATT rom just in case I decided to go back. The steps for loading a ROM are almost the same as HardSPL, just follow the directions on the screen.
This is a link to Dutty's Tilt Beta ROM (all you need is the link to the ROM at the bottom of the first post). If you want to try Dutty's Hybrid ROM, scroll to the 3rd post made by username "alltheway" and click on the red Hybrid No 5 Rom link in his signature block.

It is very simple to do.
Do I need to SIM Unlock?
I have been reading through the posts, and I can't find if I must SIM lock my phone before trying to install Dutty's ROM. On my 8125 the general concensus was unlock both. I don't have any need to run other radio's on my phone, and I won't be traveling out of the US.
Also I am currently running SPB Pocket Plus 4.01. Should I do a hard reset before trying to CID unlock and load of new rom?

No you do not

Am I correct?

After reading, reading and reading I still am very confused.
Just a question and maybe I did not read that particular thread, sorry in advance, but if I understand correctly:
1. I extract my ROM
2. Change a certain cab from dutch to english
3. Rebuild my ROM
4. I can than load that ROM without the CID unlock HDSPL thingy
Correct?
Yes? Okay I start building.
No? Any other change to get an english non edited/tweaked Rom on my TyTn II?
The more I write the more I start knowing the answer. I think.
One thing I know for sure is that you do need the "CID Unlook HDSPL thingy". Without that you cannot flash a ROM so if you're going to do any flashing make sure you HardSPL your device otherwise you can render you device inoperable.
As for a ROM you can dump your ROM to have a backup so if you need to restore it later for warranty purposes you can rebuild from that. Or you can use the dumped ROM to create your custom ROM.
Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349354.
It's a very easy way to create a custom ROM.
Good luck.
Well, what are you trying to do? "non-edited" and "Tweaked" will not go in the same sentence... Also I see "change a certain cab from Dutch to English" and I get totally confused like you are... What are you really trying to do? Do you want to flash a tweaked English "cooked ROM" onto your device? That's easy - there are a couple of ROMs you can try out: Dutty's, Q-Mobile, Schaps, Gullum... or do you want to learn how to cook your own ROM? _Alex_ has put together an awesome cooking tutorial and Kitchen tools for you to use so I suggest you read those again! In either case you'll need to first unlock your device using the great pof's HardSPL/CID unlock utility...else you'll have a very expensive brick on your hands! But again, my question: what are you really trying to do?
I just want my Dutch version turned into an English version. That's all. Nothing more nothing less. No additional changes to my ROM. Just another language. Easy isn't it.

How to: Build in an application in your current ROM.

Hey people,
I've been browsing through the forums and im 100% sure there is a post about it, but I cant find it...
How do you "cook" an application into your rom, so that after a hard reset it still is present?
Search for making OEM Packages. That's the cleanest way to do it. The instruction for any of the Rom Kitchens (Hermes is where it first appeared I think) will work.
Ive been browsing but I cant seem to find a nifty guide which shows how I can builtin programs into my current (vodafone) rom.. I assume my warranty will be untouched then right?

custom rom cooking for trophy ?

i want to start cooking my own roms for htc trophy.
but unfortunaly i cant find any turtorials how to cook an wp7 rom, can someone give me some links
I managed to figure out OSBuilder and how to extract NBH's and essentially build it back, changing logo, reg keys, including packages etc, after binary patching some executables of my own choice but I can't test my work until my contract is around last month, I don't want a bricked phone paying $87 a month. (Search OSBuilder)
*Edit* Screw it, tried flashing and I get a 260, even on community ROMs. Support here sucks ass. I'm considering finding a Chinese forum to ask, I'd rather deal with language translation issues than functionality issues.
I wouldn't ask here. There hasn't been much activity here with people who could actually help you. I'd try and go over to the ROM cooking forum. It won't be phone specific, but there is a tutorial. I haven't been brave enough to build one yet. I really would like to see a new rom that has usb video working as well as data sharing working well.

how about checking out what the ruu error means?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/RUU_Errors
seems like a problem with spl. maybe you have not installed hardspl yet (or rspl is how it's also called).
if stock spl is on device, it's normal that it spits out a error when you try to flash a unsigned (custom) nbh.

I was trying to downgrade but it was that I trusted someone else's CRC on the RUU and it wasn't original manufacturer, so 260 means in that instance it wasn't accepted. After downloading a new copy from another site it worked. I had forgotten about this post, my apologies on not updating it. After downgrading I could flash HardSPL, then custom.
Well, I think I can take another stab at building custom roms for the Spark_W. Does anyone still watch this thread?
