Am I correct? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

After reading, reading and reading I still am very confused.
Just a question and maybe I did not read that particular thread, sorry in advance, but if I understand correctly:
1. I extract my ROM
2. Change a certain cab from dutch to english
3. Rebuild my ROM
4. I can than load that ROM without the CID unlock HDSPL thingy
Correct?
Yes? Okay I start building.
No? Any other change to get an english non edited/tweaked Rom on my TyTn II?
The more I write the more I start knowing the answer. I think.

One thing I know for sure is that you do need the "CID Unlook HDSPL thingy". Without that you cannot flash a ROM so if you're going to do any flashing make sure you HardSPL your device otherwise you can render you device inoperable.
As for a ROM you can dump your ROM to have a backup so if you need to restore it later for warranty purposes you can rebuild from that. Or you can use the dumped ROM to create your custom ROM.
Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349354.
It's a very easy way to create a custom ROM.
Good luck.

Well, what are you trying to do? "non-edited" and "Tweaked" will not go in the same sentence... Also I see "change a certain cab from Dutch to English" and I get totally confused like you are... What are you really trying to do? Do you want to flash a tweaked English "cooked ROM" onto your device? That's easy - there are a couple of ROMs you can try out: Dutty's, Q-Mobile, Schaps, Gullum... or do you want to learn how to cook your own ROM? _Alex_ has put together an awesome cooking tutorial and Kitchen tools for you to use so I suggest you read those again! In either case you'll need to first unlock your device using the great pof's HardSPL/CID unlock utility...else you'll have a very expensive brick on your hands! But again, my question: what are you really trying to do?

I just want my Dutch version turned into an English version. That's all. Nothing more nothing less. No additional changes to my ROM. Just another language. Easy isn't it.

To establish only after updating USPL
Congratulations!!
Finaly someone made it!!
I was trying to do my own cooked rom but I fail. I was trying to get OS.nb from Part02.raw from dump (from other rom), but during process of converting, packages are lost and when I flash device with that I get plain vanilla rom without ANY customization. Simply, none of .provxml files are procesed during cold boot. That`s not what I want.
Any idea what went wrong?
Anyway, I see that you used Htc rom tool by Dark Simpson with Excalibur option to get .nbh file, is that correct??
anyone try and flash yet?
i would like to try but i don't want to brick my Vox.

I just made some tests and will risk saying, yes it`s safe to flash it.
But before flashing, run VOX_USPL <----- It`s very important, even if your device is SuperCIDed, just to be safer.
the rom is 1.22 and the USPL is 1.16?
is there any major improvements over 1.15?
is it even worth flashing?
my VOX is factory unlocked btw.

Read this: Vox USPL
i know of that USPL.......my question is that that didn't look like it gave much of a benefit.
and since my phone is factory unlocked again.....what does this 1.22 ROM offer?

More stable, and I think nothing more. I`m sure, your phone is sim-lock factory unlocked, but not a cid unlocked. None of providers or htc provide cid unlock phones.
is it more efficient in the sense that i will have more available free memory at startup?
i have about 23mb usable and fresh startup now!
does this rom have english language? i'm asking because i'm not russian so i don't understand cyrilic, hence i wouldn't understand anything ;P ...and one other question, because i've never flashed my vox: can i, for any reason, flash my vox with another rom, of a previous version than this rom, if i choose to??
This ROM contains two languages: Russian and English.
You can flashing any ROM after flashing VOX USPL.
ok thank you very much for elucidating me
one other question: i've flashed with your rom, but now i have an issue: my qwerty keyboard as a different layout than the one the rom has...my keyboard as the dot next to the P...this layout as the dot next to the Q...consequently the first line of the keyboard is one position shifted to the right...what can i do about it? is there some key in the registry taht i could change?
never mind i already solved my problem...but jesus what i had to do to get through it :S
to anybody that could have been through the same issue as i did:
http://www.modaco.com/content/Smart...obile-Smartphone-Internationalization-Issues/
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/winxp/xp-lcid.mspx
also check the registry key in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD
and change it acordingly with your language code (check the second link for the code)
Really QWERTY keyboards in Russian and English devices differ.
Try to replace a file T9.Libra.russian.0409.kmap.txt in \Windows, on what I apply.
I do not guarantee, that it will solve a problem.
Look also here and here.
Thank you for your rom. My orange sp e650 is really faster when accessing programs and there is more storage left on the phone I like it
And thanks goes to carrots99 too for pointing to this excellent article from Menneisyys. It really helped me putting french language back but I still had to do a lot of editing in the txt file.
Any chance of some screen shots?
Sure. What screenshots would you like ?
I have a small request also. It seems that this rom doesn't support custom animated splash screens in HKLM\Software\HTC\Startup (or \Shutdown)
Could someone please give me the values listed here ? I think a dll was registered here ...
for the animated startup and shutdown screens you have to check the registry for this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Startup\1]
"Dll"="\Windows\oemstartup.dll"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Shutdown\1]
"Dll"="\windows\oemstartup.dll"
you need also to check if you have that dll file in windows folder
That's it ! This dll is not included in this rom. My only complaint actually. Any chance you could upload it for me ?

Need help (Rom flashing stuck)

Hi I'm not new to PDA but i'm new to flashing and roms and stuff.
I have a HTC tytn 2 whit an english (UK) rom on it (no brand the real one from HTC itself). I want to have an dutch rom after some browsing and a bit of reading i stumble upon some things that would be great if it worked. But i'm actully a little to scared to try stuff (600 € is not a toy to play with and you need to be sure doing stuff right). So what i know so far is that i need a NL rom i have chosen this one NoThrills_WM61_NLD_V3 i dont like the branded things so NO thrills. So then i read that i need to HardSPL the thing. So i run it, guess what white screen, no problem as i've read further i need to use the jumpspl instead so i run it and the i get the Tri-color. Now what i don't know is what i need to do next. Cause in the other tutorial they use this program to run the "PDA Phone ROM Update Utility" whit the exe file. I'm stuck here. What do i need to do now to get the rom onto the device or do i need to do it another way?
Thanks in advance.

No expert here - the WIKI is your friend.
The jumpspl is there only to get you past the white screen. You STILL need to HARDSPL your phone or you will brick it.
The white screen problem only adds another step to what you need to do.
You really need to go and read and re-read until you are sure of what you are doing or you will need GSLEON3.
So - an overview of what you need to do:
1. get past the white screen - (using jumpspl) and then put HARDSPL on your phone - DO NOT PROCEED until you can see either OLIPOF or JOCKY on your boot screen.
2. once you have hardspl installed you are going to want to flash your phone - frequently a radio comes with the flash - other times it does not and you will have to pick a radio to flash.
Trust me this is worth it in the long run - but it will raise your blood pressure - no go get your asbestos suit on and read!
Bill
waiting for a mod to close this thread as it is redundant.
if u read the jumpspl thread it clearly tells u what to do next.
Redundant thread.
Please read the WIKI and _Alex_ Sticky. It has all the information that you need.
Looks like the post in this thread alone should answer your question.

New to windows mobile, would appreciate help.

Hi everyone, I have recently bought a htc touch pro from polish orange provider. I have browsed dozens of topic, trying to make my windows mobile 6.1 life more satisfying, but I have few questions to ask.
1. What does Hard-Spl do ? And can I hard-spl my phone ?
2. To install advanced config, do I have to jailbreak my windows, or do anything to install it ? I don't want to end up with useless phone
3. When I try to upgrade my default opera browser to the newest build, the instlaler cannot uninstall previous version of opera, neither can I because it is not listed in add/remove programs menu. And, if I ignore the warning, I get an error in installling the newest build, but somehow I have 2 opera mobiles listed in programs menu.
Thanks in advance, r4ster.

I probably can't answer your questions like a pro, but I had a few experience that I can share with you.
1. I don't know what Hard-SPL do, but I guess it's like jailbreak for Windows Mobile device. If you want to flash to a new custom Rom, you need to Hard-SPL it first (don't need to do this if you flash back to the original ROM). And yes, Hard-SPL your device
2. Jailbreak is only a term to unlock your iphone... With a Win Device, you don't need to unlock anything to be able to download and install other software. This is the beautiful part of a Window mobile.
3. Definitively can't help you here... but I know that plenty of thread has been posted for this matter... just do a quick search. However, I strongly suggest (with no responsibility) you to "Hard-SPL" and "CID unlock" your device and flash it to a new ROM. It will make your phone faster and much cleaner. Also, you'll get your new Opera install.
The question now is, which ROM
I suggest NATF's v2.3, but he'll be releasing a v3 today or so. Don't flash to it right away... just flash to v2.3 first and see if v3 is stable or not by reading people posts.
Flashing is not as hard as people claim... just read and be very carefully before you do it. Don't skip any step. The first time is stressful, but after that it's just a daily burger.

you have to hard-spl first before Flashing any Rom. Please read those sticky carefully. I do not take any responsibility of what you're doing.
This is what I did (it works for me without any problem)
0- I backup everything I need with PPCPimbackup and outlook
1- I HARD-SPL my device
2- I CID unlock my device
3- Flash to NATF's v2.3 ROM, hard-reset my device
4- Flash new Radio (this step is optional... and to find the best one, you have to test one by one.)
5- Restore my backup
6- Re-install extra software that I need.
Like I mention earlier, these steps work for me, and there are big chance that it will work for you as well... but I do not take any responsibility. Before you Flash to any ROM, HARD-SPL your device. and after flashing your ROM, HARD-RESET it.

Well, first I hope that it doesn't go wrong. And second, I'm pretty sure you can stand the temptation of flashing to a new ROM, so you'll probably going to do it very soon. But Third, So far I haven't seen any thread that someone can unbrick their Touch Pro after a bad flash (he/she didn't Hard-spl before flashing, that's why)... However, there is a way to do it with the Kaiser... so don't lose hope there.
Just READ everything carefully, you have a 99.5% successful rate if you do. I would say that the 0.5% is just your bad luck (example Computer stop working during the flash... but that's just pure bad luck and you can't blame anyone but God)

noob questions about ROM flashing

hi,
i have an HTC touch (the 128/256 would be Elfin right?) to which i want to flash another ROM.
well i'm a total noob at this so i don't really understand where or how to start and what to do;
1-is the process reversible?in other words can i downgrade to my original ROM (downloaded it from HTC website)?
2-is it necessary that i upgrade/change the IPL,SPL,USPL,...etc?
3-when doing a CID unlocking,is it safe?or what's the worst case scenario?
4-does the ROM contain a radio by default or should i install it seperately?and is it necessary to upgrade/change it?
sorry for asking too many questions, but i wanna know how to do it right
thanks

1.) Yes, once you Hard Spl your phone you can flash any rom, custom or OEM
2.) Yes, you must change from a stock spl/uspl to a custom one.
3.) Yes, For the most part it is safe, but like driving your car, accidents happen and the worst case is you brick your phone.
4.) some roms contain radios and some roms do not, you can always flash your favorite radio after the rom flash.
Don't worry this is the right section to ask questions. Read this thread and other threads in the upgrade section. Re read until it makes sense and then go for it.

and now things are starting to become more clear, but now i have another questions:
1-if i dump my IPL/SPL,can i restore them again over the stock ones (in case i wanna sell my phone or something like that)?
2-it seems a bit dumb ,but i thought CID unlocking and USPL changing are 2 completely different things, but now i see that they are two different descriptions for the same thing,am i right?
thanks

Yes you can restore everything to stock for warranty return, providing it is not your usb connector that is th problem.
They used to be two different things, but now with the new Uspls/Spls it is the same thing
so from what i understood, all i have to do is upgrade my USPL and dump my stock IPL/SPL for restoring purposes (or can i do that without having to dump them?) and i'm ready to flash...right?

custom rom cooking for trophy ?

i want to start cooking my own roms for htc trophy.
but unfortunaly i cant find any turtorials how to cook an wp7 rom, can someone give me some links
I managed to figure out OSBuilder and how to extract NBH's and essentially build it back, changing logo, reg keys, including packages etc, after binary patching some executables of my own choice but I can't test my work until my contract is around last month, I don't want a bricked phone paying $87 a month. (Search OSBuilder)
*Edit* Screw it, tried flashing and I get a 260, even on community ROMs. Support here sucks ass. I'm considering finding a Chinese forum to ask, I'd rather deal with language translation issues than functionality issues.
I wouldn't ask here. There hasn't been much activity here with people who could actually help you. I'd try and go over to the ROM cooking forum. It won't be phone specific, but there is a tutorial. I haven't been brave enough to build one yet. I really would like to see a new rom that has usb video working as well as data sharing working well.

how about checking out what the ruu error means?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/RUU_Errors
seems like a problem with spl. maybe you have not installed hardspl yet (or rspl is how it's also called).
if stock spl is on device, it's normal that it spits out a error when you try to flash a unsigned (custom) nbh.

I was trying to downgrade but it was that I trusted someone else's CRC on the RUU and it wasn't original manufacturer, so 260 means in that instance it wasn't accepted. After downloading a new copy from another site it worked. I had forgotten about this post, my apologies on not updating it. After downgrading I could flash HardSPL, then custom.
Well, I think I can take another stab at building custom roms for the Spark_W. Does anyone still watch this thread?
