Hey Raphael / Touch Pro users...
The Touch Pro was recently released in South Africa and im considering the move from my TyTN II to the Touch Pro!
There is alot of nice looking technology in the Touch Pro and its a beautiful looking device... Im just wondering if people are as unhappy after moving to the Touch Pro as they were after moving to the TyTN II / Kaiser???
Im enjoying the TyTN II, after alot of tweaking i managed to get it feeling good and with the addition of CorePlayer 1.2.5 we can now get around the disgusting video playback issue!
So my question is...
Is the Touch Pro worth it??
What do you guys think??

I think it's pretty much on what you need? TP is my first WM device and I'm had up and downs experience. I know it's a new product but just the simple phone function is having issue (not for everyone, I have the mute problem).
I like the screen resolution, the speed is acceptable. The design is great. Anyway it's a cool phone. If you love tech and have the budget, TP sure a nice toy to play around with.
I'm still using my Kaiser as well, but yes I was very happy with the upgrade.
Next is replacing the Diamond with the Touch HD
It's a good question. I heavily used a TYTN II in place of a Blackberry and when I changed jobs in September I bought a Touch Pro and don't use it as much for email anymore, but still use this functionality.
The only thing I miss is the jog wheel, that was very handy although "flicking" the screen to scroll through the mail is just as easy - just different. It's what you get used to.
I have found a number of bugs with the Touch Pro that have been widely discussed on this forum such as GPS lag, answering calls whilst in your pocket etc etc but have cured almost all of them again thanks to responses on this forum.
The Touch Pro is asthetically pleasing where as the TYTN II was purely function over form, and it has really nice touches - such as FM Radio, Opera, YouTube player all built in.
However, am I completely satisfied with the Touch Pro ? No, not completely. The GPS issue is a particular problem as I use it fairly frequently, and I'm noticing that there is an occasional breakup of or jump of sounds - voice calls, MP3's, SMS message tones - like an old record jumping - which to me take the "polish" of an otherwise accomplished device.
If I had to spend my money again at this point in time, I would be hanging on to see what the Xperia was like and then choosing - I will be watching that one with interest myself !

Ive only been using HTC devices for 2 months, but ive moved fairly quickly through devices, P4350 -> TyTN I -> TyTN II and i must say that ive come to love the HTC quality, the feel and just the way everything works, which makes me immediately hesitant to move to the X1!
The other issue i have with the X1 (and the Touch HD) Is the WVGA resolution, im worried about compatibility with existing apps, games etc! The X1 is also (in my opinion) an ugly looking device... But (considering i was a TyTN I owner hehe) this doesnt bother me that much!
I want the hardware keyboard, its the reason i moved from "regular" cellphones to these devices, so all the other HTCs and various other devices are ruled out because of lack of the hardware keyboard!
I was hoping that the Touch Pro would iron out a few issues HTC were facing, the poor video playback, the poor 3D performance etc etc... To be honest, if this isnt the case and im not missing that much, i might stick with the TyTN II for a year or so and see what happens (unless i pick up a Touch Pro for a bargain hehe), i love the tilting screen, its something ive come to use alot and im unsure as to why they decided to not include it in their new devices!

Pro's and Con's
Whilst the TyTn II is not the most exciting looking device HTC came out with, it was one of the most stable PDA's I have owned. If it had a VGA screen I would have not traded it for the Touch Pro.
OK, the TP is very sexy, has a great screen and keyboard and oodles of RAM. But it has to be the most unstable PDA I have used, with constant glitches and weird errors that cause me to soft reset a couple of times a day. I think there is a real need for HTC to bring out a new ROM build that irons out all the well publicised faults.
Having said that, I love the sheer coolness of this device and the WOW's I get from mates when they see it. So I am pleased I bought it and I wouldn't get rid of it any day soon. I will continue to put up with the glitches and keep checking these forums for solutions.
Would I recommend it? For those who want a functional office device that they toss into a briefcase without a care.... NO!

Good thing you're well informed and you know what you're talking about. "will be my first and last HTC device...", "am gonna switch over to Xperia (HTC) or G1 (HTC) or even a smart touch phone"... The only 2 phone models you named are made by HTC.

I’ve been reading raving reviews on both the HTC TyTN II & Touch Cruise and now confused as to which would be the better of the two for me!
I currently use an o2 Atom Exec and don’t mind it but the fact that I have to pull out the stylus every time I need to SMS or email someone, ****s me to tears.
Will I be doing the same on Touch Cruise? using my stylus rather than the touch capabilities? My biggest concern is the Touch keyboard, I haven’t been able to find a video preview of someone demonstraighting the way you would email or SMS using the Touch keyboard.
I’d really like to hear from anyone that has either the TyTN II or Touch Cruise and why they decided to go with the phone they did.

Well, I've played with the Touch, and the TyTN II, and I just bought a Touch Cruise. I was coming from a smartphone (w/keypad), so initially I wanted a Touch Dual. The lack of wifi killed it for me though.
Having a Touch Cruise, I can honestly say you get over not having physical keys/keyboard readily. The form factor on the Touch devices is also very impressive and well sized. Lastly, the flat screen makes a huge difference in usability of the Touch Flow software (so although you can add Touch Flow to the TyTN II, you really don't get the same feel).
Conclusion: If you can get over the lack of wifi and your aren't the type to compose books on your device go for the Dual. If you need wifi, consider upgrading to the Cruise. If you need a dedicated keyboard and don't mind the form factor and largeish size, go for the TyTN II.

My Kaiser is like a brick, the Touch Dual is so smooth and slim.

How true, I also installed the TouchFlo software on my Atom Exec and yes it does the software no justice.
My problem at the moment is that the HTC Touch Cruise doesn’t get released in Australia for another 7 days and then our Telco’s probably want offer any deals for another month or so.
What I’d like is to physically play with a working Touch phone. Would it be fair to say that the HTC Touch has a similar OS to the HTC Touch Cruise? If so, then I can go to a PDA store & have a play with this phone instead to get an idea of the TouchFlo OS and what it would be like to type an email with the “Touch” Keyboard.

Tell me, is there any lag when you use the Touch keyboard. If I go and play with a HTC Touch will it give me a perfect example of what the Crusie will fell and work like?
I’m so itching for a new phone, I was very close to just ordering the TyTN II late night…..

I have both devices currently. I own one of the pre-release Touch Cruises and I love it. At the same time, I am evaluating a development ROM on a Kaiser for an un-named source. In essence, with a modified ROM, the Touch interface functionality can be nearly the same on both devices with a slight edge going to the Cruise since it has the flush-faced screen made for the GUI.
I have been using the Kaiser (TYTN II) for the past week and I must say, I open the keyboard more times by accident than intentionally. I agree with the earlier comments that you get used to having no keyboard very fast. Cruise has FM Radio, while Kaiser does not. I played FM a little on day 1 of owning the Cruise and not again since. I stopped listening to FM years ago when I went to XM.
The BIG thing to notice is the BULK of the Kaiser, even though it is slimmed down a little from the earlier TYTN and the Wizard which preceeded it, it is a brick compared to the Cruise. In my area the Kaiser is $40-$50 more expensive than the Cruise. My vote for the Cruise is not for the cost, it's for the ability to turn heads and garner interest from others. The QWERTY-PDA's have been around for years now. The Touch GUI is new on the block and many folks like it because it is new and it's not from *pple.
I've written reviews for both devices now and the scale for me tips towards Cruise. By the way, I love the Teksoft keyboard on the Cruise. (search the Athena Forum for more info or google Teksoft)

Yes, I think it is a good idea to feel the Touch Dual or the original Touch for that matter, just to get a handle on the Touch GUI and to feel the sleekness of the device. Depending on where you live and which shop you visit, they may also have a TYTN ot a TYTN II. (If you've seen a Wizard, the TYTN's are upgraded hardware in the same size case, just a bit more style)
In the end, the sleek and solid lines and the less bulky feel of the Touch line should steer you towards the Cruise. It has all of the connectivity and options you should need in this price range. Apart from not having a VGA screen and a microdrive, it is feature for feature on par with the Athena, but that device is in a class of it's own (+size, +weight, +bulk, but storage and features galore)

I just when to the local Phone store which had a HTC Touch & the TyTN II on display and asked if I could demo the Touch. I don’t understand these companies! They want us to spend over $1000 AU but don’t have a working demo to play with, boy that annoys me.
Now the sales person wouldn’t let me physically handle the Touch but he did installed the battery and turned the phone on for me to see it working. He showed me the onscreen keyboard in a qwerty 1x key per button and it seemed too small to try typing a short email/sms using your thumb. He mentioned that his girlfriend had the Touch and she still used her stylus a lot to type her sms messages.
I’m so confused and my wife is about to divorce me LOL…… unless someone can seriously convince me, I think I might head for the TyTN II. I really like the Touch Cruise but my biggest concern it the typing method.
So any HTC Touch Cruise owners I understand the Touch Cruise onscreen keyboard can be changed to x1 letter per key, what is your honest experience with this?
I’m not sure if this is possible, but am I able to install the onscreen keyboard used on the Touch Cruise on my Atom Exec to get a rough feel for it?

I'm not sure why in the world his g/f would use the stylus keyboard as the main input, its much slower than using the included stock thumb keyboards.
The stock keyboard options on the cruise are a t9 keyboard(3keys per button), and a 20 key qwerty keyboard (2keys per button). If you want a full qwerty keyboard for thumb typing, you'll need to download something like pocketcm or zoomboard, or the big keyboard by spb.
Honestly, I can only imagine using a full qwerty keyboard in landscape mode. I ended up using the 12key T9 keyboard and I'm pretty fast on it, it has a really good T9 predictive engine, so I'm faster than some of my friends with full qwerty devices. But if you feel you *need* a qwerty keyboard, then the TytnII would be the way to go (I say need, b/c you may just find you can live w/o it). Good luck on your decision.
Currently SEP900i for more than 2 years now and would like to change to Winmobile again.
Previously used O2 blueangel first with WM2003SE and then with WM5.
Currently i would like to know which phone do you suggest based on above 3. Though i would miss the keyboard on omnia but the camera and some other software features looks interesting.
Also since i dont change my mobile for at least 2 years leaving in China where we dont have mobile plans in EU so i would like to know if any of the 3 can be installed with WM7 whenever it is launched. Sorry if this is a little stupid but wont harm if i know could be done in future.

nobody can say for sure
acceleration Meter would prob mean more wm7 features supported though x1 dont have that not sure about Omnia

edit: in Asia there is an Omnia that has an 800x480 screen, if your looking at Omnia's then check this out. I think its called the Omnia-T (but not sure - google is your friend). Also, Samsung are very prolific with firmware upgrades and being very aggresive at supporting the phone in this manner. Much more active than HTC have ever been and VERY quick to fix issues with new firmware. check out i900.modaco.com for more info.
The Omnia feels quite cheap, and is only so popular because a lot of people know Samsung.
The HTC's are by far the best.
The Xperia has a smaller screen, and a small keyboard.
The Pro is ofcourse very nice, but quite large around the waist. ;-)
Xperia has higher resolution and nicer screen.
I was doubting for a while too, but I've tested them all, and yesterday decided to buy the HD.
Omnia already had quite some problems, and the resolution of the Touch Pro is not suited for the future.
The Hd's 800*400-screen is unbelieveable.

Tested them all? I OWN a Touch Diamond (before that, TyTN and TyTN2 and BlueAngel) and EVERY HTC device I have ever had has had to be returned for physical failures at least once if not twice. Actually, thats a lie: the TD hasn't because I gave up with it after trying various diferent ROMs. This has now been refunded by the ebay seller as under UK law its "Not Fit For Purpose". (And the new euro constitution want's to get rid of our Sales of Goods Act - UK people, dont let them!!!)
The last phone I had between the tytn 2 and TD was a Tosh G900 and this was faultless - just like my I900 which is also FAULTLESS. The Omnia has some software issues to start with (Blank screen of death) but these were aggresivley fixed by Samsung, far quicker than HTC have ever done with any of there issues.
HTC devices are designed great but pi** poor manufacturing quality in my experience as can be seen from my history. I said once before that I would NEVER buy another HTC device and I didn't but then relented and purchased a TD .... only to be proved that I should never buy a HTC device.
btw, the first phone to have a 800*480 screen was the Tosh G900 .... been there, done that.... for well over a year. Well done HTC for catching up .... finaly
Before anyone shouts TomTom (at the Omnia) ... this has been proven by the guys on Modaco that this is a TomTom programing issue and not a Samsung problem. But then, this is also easily got around with GPSGate or similar.
I will point out though that if games are your choice, the Omnia is not the best choice as games often have hard coded screen resolutions and these won't work - again, maybe look for the 800x480 Omnia which is about to launch in Asia.
And finaly, Hands up all those that have 32gig in there phone......

Hello, guys ...I was looking for a site with dedicated members well grounded in technology, and pda areas and finally found it.
Just registered here and have my first question. Im getting a smartphone. Suppose I prefer WM based pda-s, no matter the fact I have never had one before. So now I'm wondering which one to buy. The choice is between these two : HTC Touch Diamond 2 and SE Xperia X1. I don't know any of what their hardware parameters mean (processor, memory and etc.) or which one is better. That is the reason why I'm posting this now. To myself I suppose it would be better to have a hardware buttons, D-pad and qwerty keyboard like X1's but really like the more fingertip oriented TouchFlo on HTC. Well, I know from the forum that I can have it eventually on SE X1, so the SE Panels are already taking advantage over HTC. However, X1`s camera performance is way too low and it doesn't have an accelerometer which I think would be rather useful despite the fact the screen rotates when the slider is opened. Have read many reviews and watched many videos with both devices but still can`t decide which one to take. I need my future phone for surfing the internet, skype (mostly using wifi), music, videos and also entertainment like gaming cause everybody get bored sometimes and it's good to have some cool and glossy games... Well. that's from me so I'll be really thankful if you share your opinion and give me a piece of advise.

You should ask yourself if you need/want a keyboard on your phone or not...
I would say buy the Xperia and flash a ROM with Manila on it, this is the fingerfriendly software of the diamond 2.

Well, the more I read, the less I know which to take. The question really is do I need a hardware keyboard and its answer maybe is "yes".
About the touch pro 2...I have taken it into consideration but Im sure it going to be pretty expensive when it pops up. In addition it's kinda of bulky and bigger than the X1 and even heavier according to the official info on it. I'll still continue to look around and keep an eye on this forum and the sections about D2 and X1 and have my decision in the very last moment - I'm getting one of them at the end of the next month so I still have some time to think about that. Yet, I suppose X1 would be my new future buddy Thanks to all of you
dont buy X1, coz its kinda poor built and laggy, i have a good experience in wm, and thus far after using X1, diamond, wizard, touch, omnia. I find Omnia to be the best, fastest, and fully working it has all the decent features and its 5 megapixel camera with flash actually works, but it doesnt have support on this site. I will recommend you to see several other brands other than HTC before zeroing on any device.
I need a new phone, I hope someone can help me decide. Currently using a Nokia E71x, but I need a WM device so I can run Communicator Mobile to IM with my colleagues. I will need a touch screen device (WM Pro), preferably candy bar with qwerty keyboard (non-slider) however I'm willing to try a slider again, if I can easily one-hand type on it (drive-n-type). Also willing to try one without qwerty like iPhone or Blackstone. It absolutely must be responsive, if I cant make a call immediately without waiting for my device to "do it's thing" it the most irratating thing in the world...!
Here are some phones I've recently owned:
E71x - A good phone. It is crippled compared to the E71, but it's stable and does the job, also has fast GPS lock, and overall minimal lag on this device.
E75 - Lot's of lag, build quality not as good as E71 (keys were flimsy) and it seemed buggy, maybe I had a bad one.
Treo Pro - Great form factor, very laggy OS (not enough RAM in this thing?), poor build quality (case crack), poor battery life.
E71 - Awesome phone, was only missing touch screen, otherwise perfect, work made me ditch it.
Touch Pro - Seemed a bit laggy to me, not very durable (plastic feeling).
Tilt - Seemed laggy, wasn't liking the keyboard.
Treo 750 - No comment.
Yeah, I'm pretty picky.. I'm liking the Blackstone T8285 but I think it's out of my price range. What about the Xperia X1, is that a pretty responsive device? I recall seeing a review (phonedog I think) and he was suprised it was quite laggy. Are there any phone with like 600mhz-1000mhz proc and 512MB that are afforable?

Hmm that a really old phone though, I bet it's as slow or slower than my Treo 750 was.

Depends entirely on what you want. The HD2 is a nice, high-spec piece of kit, but it's a bit on the large side. The Touch Pro 2 is more pocketable, and has the best keyboard I've seen in a phone.
These are personal observations, and it's why I traded my HD2 for a Touch Pro 2.

2. more memory
3. capacitive screen
4. largest screen on a WinMo device
5. 16gb card included
6. hspa+ capable (not sure if tp2 is, but probably is also)
7. thinner

To the person that said the tp2 is more pocketable, they are crazy. Yes the hd2 is bigger, but the tp2 is much fatter.
I have the TP2 and trust me it is becoming outdated fast. Get the HD2 or better yet wait another month or 2 because WP7 should be dropping by the end of this year.
If you must choose between one of these two phones, get the HD2. I have a TP2 because I want a hardware keyboard, but man is this thing slow by today's standards.
If you can wait though, there are a TON of better phones about to be released. It's worth waiting if you can.
Yeah, I completely agree with you about the Touch Pro 2 becoming outdated, I think if they would have just waited and relaesed it with better specs more people would buy it and it would have been a completely better product to sell and buy. I'm leaning more towards the HD2...especially since I can just hook up a mini bluetooth keyboard up to it and type off of that like a super slacker
But I digress, it sadens me that the touch pro 2 is getting outdated so quickly. I don't know how I feel about WP7 right now...I'm going to have to get a feel of it before I make an opinion on that but from what I've read, I'm not liking some of that stuff and I don't like that crappy "zune" concept that they are giving it. They should make it original. To me it seems like Gates and Jobs are having a battle to see whose phone will resemble their MP3's more haha
Beside the hardware keyboard, there is another function that keeps me to stay with Rhodium TP2, that is its dominant accoustic/sound performance. It is equipped with dual speaker and dual microphone. In addition, you can turn it into a conference phone by simply turn it upsidedown and put on the table during a phone call. Up to now I did not find any other hand phones with such good speaker phone performance.
I do also have a Leo, but the sound performance is far behind.
I did like the sound on the TP2 (I've played with both the HD2 and the TP2) but the sound really isn't that important as long as it's still audible like the HD2 and I'm not really a business man so the laying down of the TP2 to have it in speaker is awesome...but not really needed since I mostly use bluetooth. By the by, does anyone know if you can actually have Android as the main Rom for your HD2? (Meaning, the phone turns off, turns back on and android is loaded without having WM 6.5 as the middle man)

Yeah, it definitely is. Honestly though the only other HTC phone that stands out to me is the HD2...well that and the G2
Bro. Coming from a guy that has both. I actually like the HD2 better. The touch pro 2 is a great phone but the HD2 is far more advanced and the modding ability (if your into that type of thing) is great for both WM and Android. I cant go back. The touch pro 2 still is a good phone. Just may be outdated at this point.

TP2 have a lovely sound play xD.......its amazing and the best keyboard ever done....But other way, HD2 have a better screen, much more fast (the TP2 its very noise about speed :S)
But...hd2 can be dificult with touch screen...dont support any stylus :S

I have used TP2 since its release to Tmobile then switched to HD2 recently. After using HD2 for a couple of months, I can't stand the resistive touch screen that TP2 uses anymore. The capacitive touch is much much more sensitive.
Now I'm using TP2 as a backup phone in case HD2 goes out but if I had the choice initially, I would be all in for HD2.
BTW, unless you have to have WM6.5, the new MyTouch 4G and Samsung Vibrant are pretty good as well.
