Which one to take: HTC Touch Diamond 2 or SE Xperia X1 ? - General Questions and Answers

Hello, guys ...I was looking for a site with dedicated members well grounded in technology, and pda areas and finally found it.
Just registered here and have my first question. Im getting a smartphone. Suppose I prefer WM based pda-s, no matter the fact I have never had one before. So now I'm wondering which one to buy. The choice is between these two : HTC Touch Diamond 2 and SE Xperia X1. I don't know any of what their hardware parameters mean (processor, memory and etc.) or which one is better. That is the reason why I'm posting this now. To myself I suppose it would be better to have a hardware buttons, D-pad and qwerty keyboard like X1's but really like the more fingertip oriented TouchFlo on HTC. Well, I know from the forum that I can have it eventually on SE X1, so the SE Panels are already taking advantage over HTC. However, X1`s camera performance is way too low and it doesn't have an accelerometer which I think would be rather useful despite the fact the screen rotates when the slider is opened. Have read many reviews and watched many videos with both devices but still can`t decide which one to take. I need my future phone for surfing the internet, skype (mostly using wifi), music, videos and also entertainment like gaming cause everybody get bored sometimes and it's good to have some cool and glossy games... Well. that's from me so I'll be really thankful if you share your opinion and give me a piece of advise.
P.M. - My apologies if I've made some mistakes in the text but English is not my native language...

Welcome to the forum
I really don´t like the design of Xperia at all. I would choose it just because the keyboard

Hi, check out the Diamond 2 section of this forum for more info...

Check out Diamond 2 Spec, you should be impressed

You should ask yourself if you need/want a keyboard on your phone or not...

I would say buy the Xperia and flash a ROM with Manila on it, this is the fingerfriendly software of the diamond 2.

How about Touch Pro 2?

Well, the more I read, the less I know which to take. The question really is do I need a hardware keyboard and its answer maybe is "yes".
About the touch pro 2...I have taken it into consideration but Im sure it going to be pretty expensive when it pops up. In addition it's kinda of bulky and bigger than the X1 and even heavier according to the official info on it. I'll still continue to look around and keep an eye on this forum and the sections about D2 and X1 and have my decision in the very last moment - I'm getting one of them at the end of the next month so I still have some time to think about that. Yet, I suppose X1 would be my new future buddy Thanks to all of you

dont buy X1, coz its kinda poor built and laggy, i have a good experience in wm, and thus far after using X1, diamond, wizard, touch, omnia. I find Omnia to be the best, fastest, and fully working it has all the decent features and its 5 megapixel camera with flash actually works, but it doesnt have support on this site. I will recommend you to see several other brands other than HTC before zeroing on any device.

Hermes.... Universal... or M.A.G.I.C.???

Hi guys,
I currently have the Xda IIs version of Blue Angel, running on the TuMa 1.3, but it seems like time for a change. I'm currently considering 3 options: HTC Universal, HTC Hermes, and Advance TC M.A.G.I.C. (I know it's not HTC, but...)
Details on M.A.G.I.C. can be found at:
http://www.advancetc.com/MAGIC_technical_specs.jpg
Thanks!
For me, it's gonna be Hermes. I had a Qtek 9000 (Universal) for a week to play around with, very nice features and the screen is very good, but it is far too large for me. I come from a Magician, so the Vario was the best option for me now in terms of size. I am very happy with it, so Hermes (with same form factor) is definitely the successor to my Wizard. Same goes for M.A.G.I.C. far too large for me, although the specs are astonishing. And since this phone is the first ever made by that company, expect lots and lots of flaws, poor support etc etc.
Have you seen the thread on the other HTC devices due to come out this year? Some include GPS, others the same specs as Wizard but much thinner etc etc. if they all make it to market here, it's gonna be a hard choice, but for now I am aiming at the Hermes.
If size is not an issue for you and neither is money, I would go for the Universal any time. it is available now, there is good support from this community, the specs are very good and ROM updates are frequent.
Eh...you forgot the winner - Atom!
Ha ha, sorry for that. But for me a keyboard is very usefull. Willing to give it up for a GPS, but Atom does not satisfy my needs, sorry!
Ideal devices all depend upon personal preferences, so Atom is no option for me. But if you don't need a keyboard, Atom is definitely a good option!
I don't think you should count on getting that M.A.G.I.C. any time soon! We really have no idea if it is good or not, and it wont be out for months.
M. A. G. I. C., but .......

bloggy.
Koksie, my previous PPC was a BA with hardware keyboard. I have found that I type a lot faster with PhonePad and T9 on the Atom (HTC version, ripped from a Wizard ROM) then I ever did with that BA keyboard!
I find that I use the hardware keyboard more than I could ever have imagined when I had my Compact! On the Compact, I hardly send sms messages, because of my hesitation in using the phone pad or the on-screen keyboard. I just couldn't type fast enough to be convienent! With my Wizard, I just slide it open and type away! Well, every one has his favourite input method, that much is clear! Well, if you don't need a keyboard, better go for Atom or Prophet, since they combine a small form factor with great specs. Or wait for the trinity, which also look very good.

TyTN II -> Touch Pro... Is it worth it?

Hey Raphael / Touch Pro users...
The Touch Pro was recently released in South Africa and im considering the move from my TyTN II to the Touch Pro!
There is alot of nice looking technology in the Touch Pro and its a beautiful looking device... Im just wondering if people are as unhappy after moving to the Touch Pro as they were after moving to the TyTN II / Kaiser???
Im enjoying the TyTN II, after alot of tweaking i managed to get it feeling good and with the addition of CorePlayer 1.2.5 we can now get around the disgusting video playback issue!
So my question is...
Is the Touch Pro worth it??
What do you guys think??
Thank you!!!!!!
I think it's pretty much on what you need? TP is my first WM device and I'm had up and downs experience. I know it's a new product but just the simple phone function is having issue (not for everyone, I have the mute problem).
I like the screen resolution, the speed is acceptable. The design is great. Anyway it's a cool phone. If you love tech and have the budget, TP sure a nice toy to play around with.
I'm still using my Kaiser as well, but yes I was very happy with the upgrade.
Next is replacing the Diamond with the Touch HD
It's a good question. I heavily used a TYTN II in place of a Blackberry and when I changed jobs in September I bought a Touch Pro and don't use it as much for email anymore, but still use this functionality.
The only thing I miss is the jog wheel, that was very handy although "flicking" the screen to scroll through the mail is just as easy - just different. It's what you get used to.
I have found a number of bugs with the Touch Pro that have been widely discussed on this forum such as GPS lag, answering calls whilst in your pocket etc etc but have cured almost all of them again thanks to responses on this forum.
The Touch Pro is asthetically pleasing where as the TYTN II was purely function over form, and it has really nice touches - such as FM Radio, Opera, YouTube player all built in.
However, am I completely satisfied with the Touch Pro ? No, not completely. The GPS issue is a particular problem as I use it fairly frequently, and I'm noticing that there is an occasional breakup of or jump of sounds - voice calls, MP3's, SMS message tones - like an old record jumping - which to me take the "polish" of an otherwise accomplished device.
If I had to spend my money again at this point in time, I would be hanging on to see what the Xperia was like and then choosing - I will be watching that one with interest myself !
Hey guys!
Thanks very much for the replies, especially Half Penny, that was a very comprehensive reply
Ive only been using HTC devices for 2 months, but ive moved fairly quickly through devices, P4350 -> TyTN I -> TyTN II and i must say that ive come to love the HTC quality, the feel and just the way everything works, which makes me immediately hesitant to move to the X1!
The other issue i have with the X1 (and the Touch HD) Is the WVGA resolution, im worried about compatibility with existing apps, games etc! The X1 is also (in my opinion) an ugly looking device... But (considering i was a TyTN I owner hehe) this doesnt bother me that much!
I want the hardware keyboard, its the reason i moved from "regular" cellphones to these devices, so all the other HTCs and various other devices are ruled out because of lack of the hardware keyboard!
I was hoping that the Touch Pro would iron out a few issues HTC were facing, the poor video playback, the poor 3D performance etc etc... To be honest, if this isnt the case and im not missing that much, i might stick with the TyTN II for a year or so and see what happens (unless i pick up a Touch Pro for a bargain hehe), i love the tilting screen, its something ive come to use alot and im unsure as to why they decided to not include it in their new devices!
Anyway guys, i just thought id open this 1 up for discussion, thanks alot for the great input so far
Pro's and Con's
Whilst the TyTn II is not the most exciting looking device HTC came out with, it was one of the most stable PDA's I have owned. If it had a VGA screen I would have not traded it for the Touch Pro.
OK, the TP is very sexy, has a great screen and keyboard and oodles of RAM. But it has to be the most unstable PDA I have used, with constant glitches and weird errors that cause me to soft reset a couple of times a day. I think there is a real need for HTC to bring out a new ROM build that irons out all the well publicised faults.
Having said that, I love the sheer coolness of this device and the WOW's I get from mates when they see it. So I am pleased I bought it and I wouldn't get rid of it any day soon. I will continue to put up with the glitches and keep checking these forums for solutions.
Would I recommend it? For those who want a functional office device that they toss into a briefcase without a care.... NO!
For those gadget junkies amongst us.... YES!
as for me the TyTn II will be my first and last HTC device
am gonna switch over to Xperia or G1 or even a smart touch phone(samsung-nokia)
cuz HTC dont have good updates and all there roms are useless and LATE

Good thing you're well informed and you know what you're talking about. "will be my first and last HTC device...", "am gonna switch over to Xperia (HTC) or G1 (HTC) or even a smart touch phone"... The only 2 phone models you named are made by HTC.

Which one would you buy, and Why?

Hi guys,
I have been offer to get one of the next PDAs as a present:
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch HD
HTC Touch Diamond
Sony Ericsson X1
Samsung i900 Omnia 8Gb.
I am a happy owner of a HTC Hermes (SPV M3100) and I love the keyboard, I can not live without one of them anymore. I do also have a personal BT GPS which I link to the PDA and I can use programs like TT7, etc.
I do not know which one of the above to get. Because my used-to-be-a-first-choice, the HTC Touch Pro, is not what I want. I have tried it for a time, and it has great stuff such as the 640x480 resolution screen, the camera, the aesthetic, etc. But the keyboard is soooo small my fingers haven't get used to it.
The Touch HD has great screen, but not keyboard
The Diamond is like the Touch PRO but without keyboard.
The Omnia specifications looks great.... 8Gbs, 5MP camera, long battery last (something the HTC TOUCH PRO does not have...)
and the X1 which has the keyboard, 400Mb of internal memory, huge long live battery, built in GPS, Nice Screen ( 800x480) and a 3.15 MP camera.
Which one would you get?
Does anybody knows if you can flash the ROM of the non HTC ones?
Thank you very much.
Guillermo
i went from himalya and just gotten a x1
played with the diamond but felt the screen were kinda small
and saw x1 panels and pref'd it to flow
happy enough with it but
the non std screen mean that
many games act up there is a tool
which make the screen act as vga
which helps but just dont use the rest
x1 is build by htc so it's prob closer then samsung but
no device can use roms from other devices not
even 2 htc devices
so as i see it this forum will help more for htc devices then x1
and even less for samsung apart from the general forum
havent played with touch pro so cant comment on if it's keyboard is worse
then x1 but reviews and people here say worse
i suspect that there will come a touch hd pro with a keyboard next year
like the touch pro came a bit later then diamond
I´m totally agree with Rudegar:
"i suspect that there will come a touch hd pro with a keyboard next year
like the touch pro came a bit later then diamond"
I was just about to buy the HD, but as a happy Universal user keyboard is a must for me, so I decided to wait for the possible HD touch Pro that I´m also sure it will come sooner or later.
Also have in mind that if you buy a non HTC device you will not have the fantastic support of this site!
Good luck on your desicion!
Hi,
my problem is that I have to choose it right now, and I can not wait for the HTC HD PRO, if anyone where coming. So What I have seen is you give votes for the X1.
I would love someone else give me more advice,
so please, feel free to give me your opinion.
Cheers,
Guillermo
Getting me the OMNIA - it just has everything - well, except for the hardware keyboard! It is a power device with excellent specification. The fear about the non-standard screen resolution, well, is not a big deal since the OMNIA is a WM phone as all the others, so, tweaking it is not harder than tweaking others.
I sure would have loved that the OMNIA would have had a hw keyboard, but heh, I learnt that the on screen keyboard of the device works as good as a real keyboard. And in case I really would appreciate a hw keyboard one day, there are bluetooth keyboards available.

I would say,
Touch HD it's screen is amazing

In that case, I would recommend HD if you don´t mind not having keyboard and X1 in case you need kb
Good luck,

HTC Touch Diamond or Sony Ericsson Xperia X1?

Hi all,
I now own a LG Viewty but it's getting on my nerves (slow, not completely customisable, not a lot of full screen games, apps)
So I decided to buy a new phone, now I have to choose between the Diamond or the Xperia.
Which one do you recommed? Pros and cons?
Best regards,
Martijn
i own both and i'll gladly do a two for one deal for you... both are 850Mhz 3G compatible!
So which one do you prefer?
Or do you wanna sale them both?
But I already have an offer from 125 euros for the HTC and the Sony Ericsson would cost me about 150/200 so which one should I choose?
Thanks!
both are just as crap as each other...well thats in my opinion...
Oke, well that helps..
But could you tell me why they are so crap, and maybe recom me another phone instead? Would be really helpfull!
Thanks!
wait for a new phone! thats what i say, im not even looking at the TP2 and diaond 2. they dont provide much of a transition for me.
Well oké, thanks!
But if you had to decide between the HTC Touch Diamond and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, which one would be your choise and why.
My budget is limited and I have never had a WM phone before so I'm sure it will take a long time before I am even able to use all the functions!
If you text/type at all get the Xperia. The Diamond's on screen keyboard is lacking. I found it too difficult to even enter basic text with it compared to my Fuze (touch pro) or my iphone. I never tried an Xperia but all WM HTC phones are pretty much the same.
If you have never used a WM phone before, I suggest you try one out for as long as you can before buying one. There are many things I like about WM and just as many things that annoy me. My biggest complaint is that no matter what rom I flashed, it was always sluggish.
Is a Touch Pro an option? It should be cheaper to buy used and I felt my Fuze was the best WM phone I had ever used. But unfortunately not good enough to entice me to keep it and renew a 2 year contract with AT&T.
i spent quite some time on both the iphone and touch diamond before i bought myself a phone, my current phone is the xperia and i love it...trust me, the photos online u see about the xperia is nothing close to the actual thing, since i upgraded to the latest rom few days ago, i never experienced any crashes, if you are going to buy, buy a new one and make sure u care it, the black battery cover can be easily scratched (i just purchased one online)
right now im selling my black xperia, had enough of it, i want the silver one now
Thanks all!
Still don't know which one it's gonna be, the HTC is thinner and cheaper...
But the Xperia has a querty keyboard, but is more expensive and doesn't have the TouchFlo interface (even though I know there is a hack for it..)
My choise is going to the HTC, it has more mods and stuff, and a G-sensor and they still taking care of the mobile (new ROM's and stuff)
HTC +
- Cheaper.
- More mods, games, apps.
- good support.
- TouchFlo interface (love it!)
HTC -
- Lagging keyboard (jeffla).
- Smaller screen.
SE Xperia +
- Querty keyboard
- Easy to use Panels
- Good camera
- Bigger screen
SE Xperia -
- Thicker, heavier
- Less mods, games, apps
- No G-sensor
So I think I'm going for the HTC, because it's cheaper and some of the +/- you can see above!
All thanks for the replies!
i guess you like to scroll right, left, up, and down alot!
sony x1 got WVGA, 800x480!
"see more, scroll less is always better!" -netboy (aks netnerd). haha

well, that's true for sure, but I'm not gonna use it for internet a lot, don't have unlimited use of internet, only at home but then I have a computer too..
I'm mostly gonna use the phone, to text, phone, play some fun games, and mod it a bit, and listen to some music... (speaker)
So basisically what I want is a phone that:
Has quite a good speaker.
Is fast.
Is moddable.
Has touchscreen.
Has a lot of apps, mods, games
And to my opinion the HTC has most of it! (or everything for me)
FWIW the Xperia is an HTC phone as well. But if you really like the Touch Diamond but want a keyboard get the Touch Pro. It is simply a Diamond with a Keyboard.
How about an Omnia?
If you have the budget, do go for the TD2 - much more usable with the bigger screen.
yes out of the two you picked the better device...

Xperia X1 | TouchPro2 | TouchPro | ?

Salutations!
Sooner im getting rid of my 1 month old iPhone 3G and i want to come back to WindowsMobile.
Previously i had TouchPro and it was reallly good phone.
But now i would like to buy other one.
Which one would YOU choose and why?
QWERTY is a must!
Touch Pro 2 by far. Out of all the phones you listed it has the best specs in every way. And by far the best keyboard.
Some people like the LG eXpo. It has a 1ghz snapdragon processor, a sort-of dpad under the screen, and apparently a projector though I have no idea what you'd use it for.
But the Touch Pro 2 has a good number of great ROMS for you to experiment with, and a very functional and usable Android port.
And it tilts. I never thought I'd care about the tilting until I actually started using it. It's a great feature. You can tilt it and put it on your desk and use it like a mini-laptop. Lots of fun.
As a TP2/HD2/TP/Diamond user, the TP2 has the best keyboard, but you may want to consider the HD2, the screen is just so, well, HUGE
The X1 has been succeeded by the X2, but there is no XDA support for that, i love the tp2 on Deepshining X6 6.5.5, it is the nicest device i have ever used, but you sould choose for yourself

He said QWERTY is a must In this case I'd take the TP2 as well. From what I heard about SE it seems they are not very good in building stable WM devices...
TP2. best qwerty among those 3. forget about the X1.
oh there's also a new Samsung with QWERTY. Samsung have great hardware but their ROMs/Software are full of junk and instable like no other.
X1 is not bad though rather old, therefore compared to new phones the hardware cannot compete anymore
X2 gets good grades on manufacturing and seems faster (though having the same cpu as X1), but looses all because of the currently very bad firmware, additionally there is no h-spl for it yet, so all owners are stuck with stock (for who knows how long)
so you better pick one of the other phones
good decision btw to swap your iphone for wm device
cheers

Trust me, the the on screen keyboard is awesome on the HD2, but the TP2 fits the bill for you, if you can, get a RHOD300, full 288MB ram useable
I'm almost tempted to suggest we do a swop. Your iPhone for my Touch Pro.
Never have I been able to connect to anything other than a WEP wifi network with it. Was with friend the other day. Connected to both a WPA network and to The Cloud, without so much as a twitch.
Me? fiddle with this, fiddle with that and nothing (Stupid greyed out PEAP/Cert box, in WPA settings. Searched the net till I'm blue in the face with that one).
Come on, sit outside my house next time I'm doing some internet banking, why don't you.
I've never used the keyboard either. iPhone has all the apps of course, one for everything. With WM it's a case of fiddle, fiddle.
What doesn't the iPhone have that I'd miss..... ermmm an FM radio!
