The 3D driver of the Samsung Omnia was extracted and posted here on the Kaiser forum a few weeks ago. I decided to give it a try and it's amazing.
Mobile Shell is a lot more fluid and TF3D is more fluid (especially scrolling).
Grab it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416474
I'm installing as we speak will post results tomorrow
I don't find it any faster... I think the speed in scrolling speed is because it skips some frames and when performing upward gesture in Home screen the clock animation lacks a bit.
However a couple of VGA games I tried seems better now...

For me the scrolling in the picture and programs tab is a lot smoother.
wait....i thought the diamond and the TP HAD the drivers missing from the kaiser/mogul???....

I thought the same thing, but these drivers seem to pump up performance.
spb animations seem better to me as well.
Just try the also provided Omnia 3D examples and you will see that the drivers make your 3D performance slower!
TDO
Agreed ive also tried this driver (whilst developing the elite stuff) and found performance to be reduced, a simple benchmark in TCPMP/Coreplayer will show this.
Delve deeper if you feel like it with spb-benchmark as I havent looked at it yet, the TP and Diamond have thier own drivers already cooked into the ROMs so there really isnt any need afaik. Perhaps on other devices it may make a difference so dont rule out it improving devices like the kaiser or polaris for example.

check Text3D app on my device it's a big difference
also Billboard app is running slower with omnia drivers
the main difference is not in speed, but in image quality

A simple software based renderer can render AMAZING 3D images .... sacrificing speed surely the intention of a tweak is to improve quality without slowing down the FPS and vice versa??
I've put my touch pro with this drivers head to head with a diamond with the HTC's drivers. All samsung 3D demos run with the same speed on both devices, but the quality on Touch Pro was much better. The tiger was more realistic, you couldn'see the lighting in the Lighting demo in Diamond and you couldn't read anything in the 3d Text. Billboard however run slower (a lot slower) on touch pro...
I don't know ofcourse how trustworthy are this results, as samsung demos should work better with samsung drivers.
And let's not forget that Qualcomm is Samsung after all.
Wouldn't surprise me if they release better drivers for their inhouse machines.

nice reviews ...
if only we could find a general type of tests to perform, then we could deduce or conclude much better for the 2 drivers ...
I have the impression everything runs a bit smoother with these drivers. e.g. scrolling within resco explorer...
Ok, ran some more test.
- Uninstalled the drivers, softreset
- Mobile shell gets choppier again, really the difference is there, the animation of the "cubes" coming out is a lot smoother with the drivers installed
- Scrolling trough "pictures" in TF3D goes slower
- Scrolling trough "programs" in TF3D is slower (not the "all programs" but in the shortcuts)
- 3D test apps, everything running smooth but in lower quality, text not readable on the 3D text and lights not visible on the "lights" app.
- Reinstalled the drivers, softreset
- Mobile shell animations a lot smoother
- Scrolling trough pictures and programs, again smoother, the menus of TF3D come up smoother too.
- 3D test apps: Billboard going slower, the rest smooth and higher quality, lot more details. Overall nicer looking. Text readable on "3D text" and light visible on the "lights" app
So if i get this right: these drivers seem to enable better 3D software acceleration and that works well as long as the hardware is able to cope with it?
Another thing: it's been over a day and untill now i had no "broken glass" error, which i usually have almost every day when i work with TF3D enabled. Could someone confirm this? Edit: Broken glass still appearing.
Ok, i've tried alot of things now and I simply cannot confirm that this works.
I can confirm that, yes SOME of the 3d tests done above does seem to look better (not faster), except the Billboard one which is super slow (and looks the same).
I've fiddled with fatfs cache settings, file system cache filter settings and now this driver.
I have NOT noticed ANY difference in speed AT ALL.
But TF3D is pretty smooth anyway, so it doesnt really bother me.
ROM Version 1.90.403.6 DAN (danish)
ROM Date: 08/23/08
Radio Version: 1.02.25.19
Protocol Version: 52.33.25.17U
GPS Antenna: 07/09/08, REV.EU01
My Raphael accepted new driver very well photos, programs and music are smoother..
noticed any incompatibilities yet?
(I think there is at least one but can't remember where I read about it)
nothing at all, but I have problem with Program Tab in TF3D since I installed Calendar TAB..Programs Tab freezes and soft reset is needed

Just curious if there has been any kind of fix for the very erratic/choppy touchscreen scrolling (especially when using internet explorer) with the Touchflo roms?
I know it's probably just a resultant of our phone's hardware limitations vs. the HTC Touch, but just curious if anyone's gotten it to smoothen out a bit? (of course probably nowhere near IPhone smoothness)
OC
Over clocking the phone would help.
Mine is at 273 and works very nicely.
here too, using 273mhz
I have no problems with scrolling.
Even with my processor running @ 195mhz, scrolling goes very smooth.
Of course you have to load the whole page before scrolling.
Regards,
Schmia
Is there any way to adjust the smoothness of the scroll through a registry edit? PIEPlus has ultra smooth screen drag abilities... Would be great if touchflo could work just as smoothly. Any ideas?
I don't know much about TouchFLO and how much resources it would take up if I use it. I wanna cook it into a ROM but I... well... I just don't know if it's really worth it.
I'm using Slide2Unlock, ContactsManager, iPhone Lookalike, and even the iPhone_en phone skin. I'm doing this to prove to friends that you don't really need an iPhone to really get the awesome feeling.
So basically, TouchFLO is the last frontier (for now I guess). So guys, give me some feedback on resources, looks, feels, and what I should embrace or get ready for...
... I'm scared...
I have a Touch. All the TouchFLO apps are loaded at start up via \Windows\Startup and stay resident:
- biotouch.exe (behind-the-scenes app to activate/deactivate cube)
- APlauncher.exe (face of the cube that launches apps)
- MediaHubMini.exe (face of the cube that launches media apps/folders)
- QuickDial.exe (face of the cube for picture dialling)
I haven't done any tests on how much memory they use up, but odds-on it's a fair old whack. The UI seems to come up fairly quickly when I smear my thumb up the screen, so I'm guessing that they've tweaked the priority of the processes up a fair bit.
On the plus side, if it can run on a 201MHz OMAP, it can pretty much run on anything!

True. No offense meant mate, but 201Meg OMAPs are rather slow. Most other procs out there are faster, if not MUCH faster. However, some devices are still having difficulty porting the finger gestures. Zephus mate, what device are you using?
my apologies. Your using an 8125. Didn't notice that
Just remember the HTC Touch uses the 200M OMAP processor.
Well then doesn't seem like there would be much of a problem with overclocking a Wizard to >200. But I'm not really looking to use the cube, rather I just want to use finger scrolling and such around other pages. I believe TouchFLO allows that (I could be wrong...) but I'll try the cube anyway.

No siree. the finger scrolling is controlled by the touch.dll file in the windows folder. I am attaching it here, throw it in your windows folder and see if it works. if it doesnt, install the 4 exes and that should work but you do need touch.dll
as for the cube, I have a 8125 and the cubeis a bit laggy at reg speeds but if you use the dynamic oc from batterystatus ext and set to 247, the cube flows like it does on the touch.
let me figure out how to attach a file and youll have it in a second.
heres the touch.cab so you can install the whole package at once
and just the dll, throw it in your windows folder before you install the cab, soft reset and see if the scrolling starts working. if not, install the cab
Now scared of overwriting touch.

Well actually, I just can't seem to overwrite it just yet, not until I use Total Commander, but thanks though. This seems helpful to at least try it out until I cook it.
Yeah, touch.dll killed my screen on my Wizard. Had to "Clear Storage" to get it back up again. And the .cab with TouchFLO didn't contain the cube unfortunately. Oh well...
I'll just cook it as an experiment. Face my fears.
usually with activesync you can overwrite but if you got it workin there you go
Just curious, because I like the close-to-generic Today screen setup I use on my Mogul, and perhaps the speed is optimized without TouchFlo. I wouldn't want to lose speed or practicality for an ICI

Yes, I was so accustomed to using Wisbar Advances with Pocket Breeze and Pocket Weather that I finally put them on my TP and turned of the TF3D -- debated quite awhile before doing so because I like the TF3D interface, just found my other configuration "more comfortable" to use. As for speed, it's hard to tell -- the non-TF configuration is quite snappy and I rarely have to wait, but my TF3D configuration was always snappy too -- didn't really feel it was slow and it would be hard to say that w/o it my TP is any faster.
yes, I turned touchflo off. I use spb mobile shell. just because it's so much better/easier to use!
If it's faster? I have no idea...but it run's veeeery smootly @ the moment!
I was wondering the same thing.... I loved the HTC Home program on my HTC Artemis and I can't get quite into TF3D...
Is there a VGA version of HOME??
Same here. Disabled Touch3DFlo and installed Spb Mobileshell.
But I don't see any changes whatever the speed.
I'm surprised to see so many people disabling touchflo, yet those without it are usually trying to get it. I loved TF3D and the standard windows mobile just seems so boring.
I disable TF3D few days before, and reuse it when I meet "Second Today".
Faster than enable? No, same, as same as slow.
It seems that without tf3d is a little bit faster, but not very much. TF3D was the most beautiful interface I saw in a wm device, and it resisted the longest but after the wow-factor depleted I still got back to the very functionally SPB Pocket Plus.
With these settings it runs almost as fast as my old eten m700 with tb_tb firmware. Some screen redrawing is visible from time to time and screen realigns after 3 seconds - very slow - to landscape mode when opening keyboard, but in rest is sure fast. Now for some 3D games utilizing the 3D card in the qualcom chipset?
I'm thinking of removing the TF3D but I don't know where to download the SPB mobile shell? I can only find one page but I actually have to pay for the software? Isn't it opensource / freeware?
No, it's not freeware.
I just want 'HTC HOME' back!
But what if you do want to install TF3D? Can you download it somewhere?
I would like to get rid of some items, that are installed during the installation of TF3D. Now it is not so hard to install without TF3D (and not having those nasty's) But i like TF3D, so i would like to install this afterwards.
the same, disabled touchlo, installed SPB mobile shell...also, the email and sms wien in touchlo was very uncomfortable for me, if i was looking for some email, i had to scroll through all of them
I really dont remember how fast it was, but withouth it its fast enough for me (i had htc P3300 before and that was slow as hell)
No ideas where to find TF3D? I think it's not illegal, because i already am running TF3D. It's just that i don't want the 'extra's'
I know there'll be a thread on this (or wiki) at some point soon enough - once three are more owners etc - but for now I'd really like to hear more on what people have tried and what's ctally out thre that's been tweaked specifically to cater for the HD2 setup/hardware.
For starters:
Coreplayer V 1.3.6 [build 7427 for ARM] :
Works, but is quite unimpressive so far *by comparison to the visual quality of the HD screen*. I'd love to know if there are tweaks to be had to improve this of course (I have no idea how to do it)
The images are jagged/pixely/patchwork and a *relatively* poor visual experience compared to the screen on the HD - although speed is obviously far better
Kinomaplay V 5.1.83:
Works pretty much perfectly from my use of it so far.
SPB Time v2.2.2:
Works, but not great to use with the finger-only capacative setup. It's awkward and fiddly to change things - but at least I can NOw set my own alarm tones (as with the windows one I cannot find how to do that - I have moved files to the correct folder for the tones but it wont recognise the .wav format so they dont appear in the options list of the alarm control panel). Plus with SPB program at least I get the BIG snooze buttons and I can alter the length of the snooze time (the OE windows alarm function is stilll rubbish for this IMO - poor show really)
That's about all I've had time to do so far
I've just seen the tweaks thread and I'm going to try the 3.5.NET tweak to see if that will help with other things in any way (I'm not at all techy, so I tend to not be too adventurous until I get a decent 'laymans' understanding of what the benefits are before trying it out)
What's everyone else got runnig and how well?
(version numbers would be a help also please)
Cheers
Utilities
Excellent thread.
Here are some 3rd party utilities that work on the HD2:
MSVC 1.6.21725
Cyberon Voice Speed Dialer v1.2 build 080731
fexploreext
(a shell for file explorer that adds usefull functions like copy shortcut to programs folder)
SRS WoW
SRS WoW is an excellent dsp equaliser that will make even your tinny earphones sound basey and clear.
very useful thread. I've tried s2u2 works fine and touch response 2.2.

Set "Smooth Zoom" in Video Settings to "ON" .... also Dither checked. Set Video output to DirectDraw, Raw FrameBuffer or GDI... Also...DirectDraw works, you need to check "Use blitting instead of overlay" in DirectDraw settings.

Which do you think is the best? IMO, I think GDI is smoother. Am I right?

I don't know if I should post here, but it seems that I can't find a IGO navigation who does work on my HD2. Does anybody know what is the problem? On my old PDA I can install any IGO (Glofiish X500+).Thank you in advance..

Hmmm, I love this extension, but it won't run on my HD2.
After installing to the device (which works OK) File Explorer crashes on startup.
Remove fexlorerext (version 2.05 is what I am running) File Explorer works OK again.
Anyone any ideas? I can get screen grabs of the crash reports if that helps anyone...

OK, I've answered my own question!
Searching for the app name didn't turn anything up, but searching for the developers name I foudn a page in Japanese linking to a bunch of WM applications (I'll have to take a look and see what the others are if they are anything as useful as fexploreext).
Anyway, v2.06 of fexporeext can be found at http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Cupertino/2039/fexploreext.CAB
The page with all the other stuff (in Japanese) is at: http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Cupertino/2039/
(and I thought Geocities was dead!)

Bit of an odd problem.
I have 3D acceleration enabled, and the carousel works absolutely spot on, even with the Gsensor! But there is a 3D accelerated message viewer that was active when I had MS3.5.1 installed (with the registry mods and chainfire HD2 graphics driver crack) that isnt active in MS3.5.3. It just has the non accelerated message viewer which looks a little naff. Has anyone else come across this problem? Tried emailing SPB about it, but theyre next to useless.
Thanks in advance

Have you tried uninstall SPB and re-install it again? This might help
Tried that, and even gone as far as a hard reset, and made no difference
Hi,
have you tried the Chainfire HD2 2d Driver Patch?
I installed it and it seems the grafic performances increased.
The drive i think can be found somewhere here in the forum.
Sorry about this imprecise information, but i actually don't know where i found the file
msdirektor
Is this what you need?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592663
Works like a charm
If I needed that, then why would the carousel be working perfectly?? I did use that when I used spb ms3.5.1 to get that to render smoothly, but its not needed with spb ms3.5.3.
Thanks for your input this far
Anything 3D, you need that driver, its the only thing that will enable you to get any 3D performance out of this phone
3D performance of my tg01 is fine without the driver patch at the moment. NFS runs fine, the 3D accelerated carousel of ms3.5.3 runs at a decent framerate. Its just the message viewer does not open the openGL accelerated viewer, just the standard non-accelerated viewer
Is there a registry entry that would allow you to enable it?
Been looking through all the registry entries and could not find a single entry that affects only the message viewer. I know its not critical, but its bugging me
hi all,
i have the same problem, carousel works great but message is laggy.
would the brute power of the phone be enough for a smooth carousel being that its a fullscreen thing where as the 3d message app isnt so it doeant get the same prority as the carousel.
make sense? if im wrong then fair dos
SPB have finally told me that they dont officially support 3D effects on the TG01 which is why the message viewer doesnt have 3D acceleration, but i find it odd how the carousel works perfectly, and supports the TG01 Gsensor???
could it just be a happy glitch with the support from m$ drivers and the combination of hardware/software?
is the 3d message viewer a seperate app ( i think it might be), then we could recompile it using the carousel as a base, personally scrolling through sms and emails in a carousel form would be cool, better than flipping it up.
it would maintain contuniuity with the phone as well
also, if the g-sensor works with the carousel then maybe we could adapt that so if you flick the handset left or right the screen would respond and change messages left and right
