Really scared of TouchFLO - General Topics

I don't know much about TouchFLO and how much resources it would take up if I use it. I wanna cook it into a ROM but I... well... I just don't know if it's really worth it.
I'm using Slide2Unlock, ContactsManager, iPhone Lookalike, and even the iPhone_en phone skin. I'm doing this to prove to friends that you don't really need an iPhone to really get the awesome feeling.
So basically, TouchFLO is the last frontier (for now I guess). So guys, give me some feedback on resources, looks, feels, and what I should embrace or get ready for...
... I'm scared...

I have a Touch. All the TouchFLO apps are loaded at start up via \Windows\Startup and stay resident:
- biotouch.exe (behind-the-scenes app to activate/deactivate cube)
- APlauncher.exe (face of the cube that launches apps)
- MediaHubMini.exe (face of the cube that launches media apps/folders)
- QuickDial.exe (face of the cube for picture dialling)
I haven't done any tests on how much memory they use up, but odds-on it's a fair old whack. The UI seems to come up fairly quickly when I smear my thumb up the screen, so I'm guessing that they've tweaked the priority of the processes up a fair bit.
On the plus side, if it can run on a 201MHz OMAP, it can pretty much run on anything!

True. No offense meant mate, but 201Meg OMAPs are rather slow. Most other procs out there are faster, if not MUCH faster. However, some devices are still having difficulty porting the finger gestures. Zephus mate, what device are you using?

my apologies. Your using an 8125. Didn't notice that

Just remember the HTC Touch uses the 200M OMAP processor.

Well then doesn't seem like there would be much of a problem with overclocking a Wizard to >200. But I'm not really looking to use the cube, rather I just want to use finger scrolling and such around other pages. I believe TouchFLO allows that (I could be wrong...) but I'll try the cube anyway.

No siree. the finger scrolling is controlled by the touch.dll file in the windows folder. I am attaching it here, throw it in your windows folder and see if it works. if it doesnt, install the 4 exes and that should work but you do need touch.dll
as for the cube, I have a 8125 and the cubeis a bit laggy at reg speeds but if you use the dynamic oc from batterystatus ext and set to 247, the cube flows like it does on the touch.
let me figure out how to attach a file and youll have it in a second.

heres the touch.cab so you can install the whole package at once

and just the dll, throw it in your windows folder before you install the cab, soft reset and see if the scrolling starts working. if not, install the cab

Now scared of overwriting touch.

Well actually, I just can't seem to overwrite it just yet, not until I use Total Commander, but thanks though. This seems helpful to at least try it out until I cook it.

Yeah, touch.dll killed my screen on my Wizard. Had to "Clear Storage" to get it back up again. And the .cab with TouchFLO didn't contain the cube unfortunately. Oh well...
I'll just cook it as an experiment. Face my fears.

usually with activesync you can overwrite but if you got it workin there you go

UPDATE 06/23/08
I'm having some issues with a few things. As usual, time is amongst them. In any case, the LZX version is just too slow for my taste... but maybe it's because I've been using a small pagepool with it.
In any case, attached is a teaser. It's the today screen that I've been waiting for.
As far as bugs go:
LZX version: Will not display the proper XIP version. I had a problem with the LZX compression and had to use one of Aserg's LZX ROMs as a skeleton on to which to graft the ROM. This worked but introducted this issue. I'm assuming that it's an issue with the cecompr.dll used and that Aserg had hex edited the XIP number unto the imgfs.bin.
All the "full versions" That today screen is not Landscape compatible so you will not see it properly when in landscape mode and in the today screen. Also, the background interferes with the start menu's functionality. I'm working to fix that now, though. Although, it's time for sleep...
Hey guys. Just messing around with a possible full ROM (as supposed to my usual stripped ROMs.) For now, it's based on the Diamond ROM.
It has the following so far:
Arcsoft 4 (I'm having some problems with 5... my MMS stopped working, even though they work with Just2Clean.)
Custom looking HTC Home 2.1 with proxy patch for those who use it on Tmobile's network - This is changing into something else... You'll see it when the author posts it.
Big start menu icons
Big X-Button Icons
black calculator - (My ROM users know I don't ever include calculators. lol)
PocketXpdf
TMPCP
Office 6.1 + OneNote
PHM RegEdit
Advanced Config
Audio Manager
Battery Status - This will be PART of the today screen...)
Esmertec Jbed + OperaMini 4.1 (4.1 was not buggy, the newer Esmertec I was using with it was. This is a stable version.)
HTCAlbum
Internet Sharing
TotalCommander (newest version I believe)
VoiceNotes (something else I tend to remove... I'm not sure if I'll keep it...)
NETCF v3.5
RandomAccess
Oxios Hibernate/CloseApp
This will come in 4 flavors at first.
1. Standard JustMe
2. LZX JustMe - A little slower, but with much more space due to the LZX compression.*
3. A UPX'ed version - Adds a little more speed and storage, but not as much as LZX.
4. A Just2Clean variant with LZX compression. Basically, the 70MB free one.
I MIGHT add a 5th version, a 'la Ttran's biggy if people tell me what they want in it.
*LZX compression is giving me a strange bug that causes the wrong WinCE version to show under the about tab.
The list looks good ivan... only things i wouldn't like would be Total Commander and PHM Regedit, since i use the excellent Resco File explorer which includes both functionalities in 1 app
Btw... speed & Voice dialing would be nice to be included ??
Thanks again for your hard work!

Speed & Voice dialing - Agreed
TotalCommander can also edit the registry, but I prefer using PHM Regedit. Resco is great, I agree, but it's not free, so I can't cook it in. I might make a version like this, though... might.
Your ROM looks very interesting may I suggest adding HTC RandomAccess to your ROM to make it handier browsing through the contacts.
Estimated time of release?
i would use this , i agree with gambit, too... icontact or something for contact browsing would be nice. other than that, it seems to meet all my necessary apps, nothing more, nothing less.

Oh I forgot to mention that was added, too. lol
EDIT: OK... the letter images that appear in the center for randomaccess are broken, so I'm gonna have to fix that, too... Thanks for reminding me, though, or I would have never caught that.
EDIT2:
Estimated time: Whenever I get to it. I'm a perfectionist, and I tend to have too many projects going on at once... plus I rarely have time to mess around with things... and I'm very disorganized... sooooo.... soon. lol
I have a working version that I may be able to fix by tonight... So sooner than I even thought maybe...
Which reminds me... I have to update my signature. Make it J2C, J2S and kitchen and maybe a bigger donate button.

Out on a limb
I know HTC Home is kind of a standard for Today Screen, and I used it for a while.....but, I'm kind of liking the functions of BS. It doesn't take as much power or space and I can configure it with a little HTML.
I started using it shortly after flashing J2C and really like the space. Plus I have more space on the SD for music, since I'm not using HHC now. Just a thought. I sent a screen shot of my modified Aurora theme. I'm running BS with rlToday for the clock, Weather panel, both integrated in BS, and "BS Home" for the bottom buttons.
I also like Network Folders cooked in (runs smoother).
Does TCPMP include plug-ins?
That's my two cents ........
wm5torage
perhaps a program that most people don't use...but it does benefit me personally, since it lets me use the phone as a removable usb drive at work...where I can't install activesync...so that i can transfer files as need be...and occasionally use portableapps, like portable firefox through the removable drive...since the work network won't allow users to install software on the computer.
wm5torage is a fairly small program, so it shouldn't take up too much room...
PIM Backup
for those that might flash every so often, but don't connect to outlook to sync, PIM Backup is a great way to backup contacts, sms', and calendar info...

Actually, I'd be ALL for it if you can provide me with the needed files. I've been looking for something like this, and although I'm good at making things work, I'm not good at making them look pretty. ^_^
Is the weather panel proxy compatible?
If it is, this will be great!
Network Folders?
As far as the plugins, it will. The version I have on it right now is a place holder until I can find a more decent package, though.

I back up everything through an exchange server, so normally I wouldn't use PIM backup... I might add it depending on the size of the program.
@ batterystatus = of course best APP ever...still don´t understand why people use HTC HOME
@ wm5torage great aspp for using device AS USB massstorage on my autoradio with usb-support
@pimbackup...why to include...just put pimbackup.exe on SDcard...and run manually from tim to time...
Just my 2 cents

All I have are the cab files. I've been reading a lot of the post in the Prophet forum for BS themes. prscott1 has quite a few different themes up and knows this a lot better than I do.
I'm sorry I misspoke earlier, I did mean networkplugin; HTC or Schaps. They both seem to work fine. Schaps is just 5K smaller as a cab.
This is where I got most of it. I just use weather panel in place of using UL as a plugin. I really can't take credit for someone else's work. I did a little rewriting of the HTML for the bottom buttons though.
Weather Panel does have an option for proxy settings.
Just what you need....another project.

This is the HTCHome BS theme. It's the same theme I'm running on my previous post just different lines showing. The message buttons are included and can be changed just by tap and hold on them.
I've attached the latest BS and the HTCHome theme, the HTCHopmeskin and the XML file are placed in the BS folder and the HTC Home files are placed in the \windows dir. It basically is editing the XML file to point to the progs you want to use. most of it is set for you. The on thing is the weather tab and the prog tab. I've seen a few setups with UL and as you can see I have it as an option in my setup.
Hope this helps. Keep up the excellent work.

I used that theme for a while, and I really like it. Using BS for themes is a bit easier, assuming you know how to edit the .xml theme. I second using BS instead of HTCHome, more customization.
Looks, maybe I will use it when it is released Still no success with the kitchen and your j2c files

PHM RegEdit

That's the list so far since I'm at work and can't mess around with it. As you can see it's a semi stripped ROM. No games, but things that I use on a daily basis have been added. All this and you still get 50MB+ of storage free. This is mostly a "I use it, it goes into the ROM" kind of ROM so far, but let me know what you'd like to go into it and you think should be removed and I'll think about making those changes happen. Remember, it depends on whether I also believe it's a useful app or not.

sounds like an incredible ROM! I am more of a BatteryStatus / Mortscript fan than I am of HTC Home, but I do like the touchflo scrolling. I would still enjoy trying your stuffed ROM. there are soo many great BS themes available now - some imitations of WM7, iphone, etc. I have added Ultimate launch recently (mainly for apps launching) so I have a BS/UL combo that is driving my latest themes. I'll post some screen shots when I have a chance (at work now) to see if anyone is interested.
Edit: I'm uploading a few screenshots of my latest (and colorful) BS theme that has UL, todayagenda, searchtoday and RSSNews integrated within.
first, second and third screenshots are the clock page with various rows showing.
fourth, fifth and sixth screenshots show some of my UL sides and cube in action.
I've been in a colorful mood lately.
The only thing I would require out of a BS theme would be the message indicators which I use quite heavily. I know that pappamopps uses them, so maybe he can add them to this BS theme being as nice as he is.
I'm on for this too if you remove remote desktop cuz I think it's useless! I would keep the voice notes though since it's kinda funny sometimtes to record sth with the phone...I'm exactly searching for something like this with the newest build since I have most of the apps in a folder called cabs on my wing Cuz in my opinion everyone needs different progs but this sounds like a good base to build a customized ROM on!

Anyone using TP without TouchFlo? How fast is it then?

Just curious, because I like the close-to-generic Today screen setup I use on my Mogul, and perhaps the speed is optimized without TouchFlo. I wouldn't want to lose speed or practicality for an ICI

Yes, I was so accustomed to using Wisbar Advances with Pocket Breeze and Pocket Weather that I finally put them on my TP and turned of the TF3D -- debated quite awhile before doing so because I like the TF3D interface, just found my other configuration "more comfortable" to use. As for speed, it's hard to tell -- the non-TF configuration is quite snappy and I rarely have to wait, but my TF3D configuration was always snappy too -- didn't really feel it was slow and it would be hard to say that w/o it my TP is any faster.
yes, I turned touchflo off. I use spb mobile shell. just because it's so much better/easier to use!
If it's faster? I have no idea...but it run's veeeery smootly @ the moment!
I was wondering the same thing.... I loved the HTC Home program on my HTC Artemis and I can't get quite into TF3D...
Is there a VGA version of HOME??
Same here. Disabled Touch3DFlo and installed Spb Mobileshell.
But I don't see any changes whatever the speed.
I'm surprised to see so many people disabling touchflo, yet those without it are usually trying to get it. I loved TF3D and the standard windows mobile just seems so boring.
I disable TF3D few days before, and reuse it when I meet "Second Today".
Faster than enable? No, same, as same as slow.
It seems that without tf3d is a little bit faster, but not very much. TF3D was the most beautiful interface I saw in a wm device, and it resisted the longest but after the wow-factor depleted I still got back to the very functionally SPB Pocket Plus.
With these settings it runs almost as fast as my old eten m700 with tb_tb firmware. Some screen redrawing is visible from time to time and screen realigns after 3 seconds - very slow - to landscape mode when opening keyboard, but in rest is sure fast. Now for some 3D games utilizing the 3D card in the qualcom chipset?
I'm thinking of removing the TF3D but I don't know where to download the SPB mobile shell? I can only find one page but I actually have to pay for the software? Isn't it opensource / freeware?
No, it's not freeware.
I just want 'HTC HOME' back!
But what if you do want to install TF3D? Can you download it somewhere?
I would like to get rid of some items, that are installed during the installation of TF3D. Now it is not so hard to install without TF3D (and not having those nasty's) But i like TF3D, so i would like to install this afterwards.
the same, disabled touchlo, installed SPB mobile shell...also, the email and sms wien in touchlo was very uncomfortable for me, if i was looking for some email, i had to scroll through all of them
I really dont remember how fast it was, but withouth it its fast enough for me (i had htc P3300 before and that was slow as hell)
No ideas where to find TF3D? I think it's not illegal, because i already am running TF3D. It's just that i don't want the 'extra's'

Do you like Manilla2D/3D or not

Most recent cooked ROM's come with Manilla2D, and now, thanks to the P3D team even with Manilla3D. I personally am not a fan of Manilla, for a number of reasons, and I would like your opinion. So vote please!
I'm hoping for future ROM's without Manilla preinstalled. For the following reasons:
Manilla only shows 1 upcoming appointment. That's not enough overview for me. Furthermore you have to jump through hoops to have it directly open your favorite PIM manager's calendar like Pocket Informant
When wanting to call someone while driving a car, the Cube fits best. I can almost call my wife without looking at the screen once. Scrolling to the persons-tab in Manilla takes a lot of precision and attention.
I use the sound profiles tab in HTC Home Plugin a lot, putting my device on silent or vibrating with one click. I haven't found that funtionality in Manilla
I lock my device a lot, preventing buttons from being pushed in my pocket. Device Lock could be on the programs tab in Manilla (with all my other favorite progs). But then again, it is hard to reach that tab accurately, as mentioned earlier for the persons tab
I really must admit Manilla looks way better than the standard Today screen and it's nice to have something new to look at, but I'm not willing to give up functionality for that.
No disrespect is meant to people who spend their time on cooking ROM's and sharing them with others. I really appreciate everything. I'm just hoping I won't be forced to use Manilla if I would like to use a newer/faster ROM in the future.
Hi deechte
I think that this voting not necessary because both of TouchFlo 2D & 3D will dead when the new version of ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5 will release after a few days and I think that all cooker will add it or at lest release the rom without TouchFlo

I really dislike the direction that Manilla 2D/3D takes us. I looks stunning, but like you stated its terrible for us drivers. There is no way to use the phone in landscape with Manilla and it requires a lot of involvement to get where you want to be. HTC Home was elegant, simple point and click, and it worked in landscape also!

Thanks for that information. TL sure looks nice, and I see profiles passing by in that clip. However, it looks as complicated as Manilla to scroll to the tab you want, which indeed takes to much involvement while driving. But we'll see how it really works when it's released.
Btw, just another reason to have a clean ROM, so you can choose for HHP, Manilla or TL yourself.
I agree with deechte. If the ROM comes "clean" every user can install what's best for him/her (in example, I'm used to SPB mobile shell)

I partially agree with you because TouchFlo 2D & 3D needs more tweaks to work perfect which normal user can't do it by self
Ultimately, what I would love would be a custom version of Manilla (or even Throttle launcher) that would enable 2D/3D mode in portrait and then HTC Home (or whatever plug-in you prefer) in landscape.
I really like Manilla2D, I wanted 3D but it didn't work and I had to hard reset my phone by flashing a new (but updated at the same time) ROM to get it to work again.
I would love Manilla2D on any ROMs I get from now on.

sure you can disable it from Today screen and working as it not present at all in rom, and if you decide that you will not using it at all. you can delete or backup all Manila graphic picture from windows directory to free space in internal storage

My Today Screen is the best

Okay guys & gals,
Just thought I'd start a topic about our Today Screen.
I love a good launcher program (which I believe is simply what a today screen is). It took me a while to get to like WM6.5, but I do now. The disadvantage is that I still have to press my Start Menu for other apps... and for 64MB Uni's the disadvantage is only too obvious.
I hope you don't mind me quoting, but this is what started me thinking...

Yeah, oh for a simple Today Screen. I'm with you there.
Why do we have one method of accessing our apps on the Today screen, and yet another from the Start menu. (And for me a third when I want to choose a game to play).
I suppose nobody has come up with something that everyone agrees on!
Hence we have such platforms as Android, maybe.
As phezthie says, HomeScreen PlusPlus is a cool app. However, if you can't find a theme that someone has made that you like, you must be willing to write a script. Personally I love this app, but spend too much time tweaking my scripts! Ouch
Another one is ThrottleLauncher. A lovely graphic approach, but a bit heavy/slow and a few bugs. Very easy to set up, though... but perhaps more of an interest with 128MB devices and maybe a little restricted.
Anyone got a great Today Screen or Launcher they think others would like?
.
Hi Jonny
Interesting thread indeed
I used for a long time HTC Home large VGA by pj07 and I was very satified as I had all I needed on that home screen.
Now I´m using titanium but I´m agree with your comments above.

Cheers,
I use Titanium too and its going pretty well for my needs till now. This his a good idea.
Hello thank you for starting this thread,as i am obsessed lately with this subject. I tried EVERYTHING that i could find, and so far,on my 64 MB uni,i can say only that i managed to find NOTHING in my taste.
Throttle launcher is awesome but no way it can work on my device, buggy and extremely slow, same as Pointui Home 2, with the POINTSENSE suite 2.0.0.6 looks awesome but useless on my device. For everyone with a 128 MB device i would recommend it,there are many many interesting skins/themes and applets on the Pointui website http://www.pointui.com/
Also,i am waiting for a new or fixed version of Touch Shell Pro ,which looks promising also, has some nice skins too, version now is 1.1.0.17,but has too many issues still,on my UNI at least.
http://www.touch-shell.com/
Also i tried FEWidgets Ultimate, again nice idea but too slow on my UNI.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544874
There is now also this Sense UI Theme for FEWidgets Ultimate.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-sense-ui-theme-for-fewidgets-ultimate.html
As for launchers,i tried plenty, most of them too slow ofc,the nicer ones
Easy Today Launcher is a nice today plugin, you can combine it with some others to make a nice today screen also :
http://www.loffactory.webs.com/
MyAction is a nice launcher you can pick up here versions 1.1 and new 2.0 :
http://www.8080.pl/
This one looks real nice but was way too slow on my 64 mb - Touchlaunch :
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-touchlaunch.html
And for last, the best thing i found to be part of my today screen,is a skin for marsware weather panel 2009 - here is the whole thing :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401781
When i get time i will put some more up,when i remember them,i really tried a lot of things out. And i really really wish that my UNI has 128 MB
I never looked back since getting SPB Mobile Shell 3.5, I think it's the best. In fact, once I got it, the ROM UI became irrelevant, I even have WM5 on one of my Unis in order to have the VC and not suffer much.
Complexity
Jonny
Thanks for starting this thread. I have also played with a number of the Today screen graphical setup programs, some are quite good. However, since upgrading to 6.5 I quite like the standard program screen that comes up when you select start.
My question is why do we need any of these today screen programs, when the icons and screen are already there. We really don't want to add any more complexity to the setup or anything else to use up precious memory.
I originally asked the question to see if there was just a way of bypassing the today screen altogether, so that the standard program screen came up by default.
Now thanks to you we have the collective minds thinking about it.
@gewin:
I actually got your idea. But couldn't find the function OS calls (@shell32.exe) when you hit on start menu.
Once we get then it is just the easy part....
I use SPB Pocket Plus, because it can handle other today plugins in different tabs. And it runs quickly on UNI64...
Thanks guys, this has been very informative. Especially to PalDragon for all the review... I'm going to give some of those a try. Cheers. What do others think?
MyAction - I found I didn't like. It looks ok if you use all the icons, otherwise you have half a screen full of blue +'s. I would prefer slide to screen, rather than use of a Prev/Next button. You also need to add all the apps yourself, it wasn't self-populating.
TouchLaunch - like. However only 1 item per line means a lot of scrolling, and the scrolling can be quite slow. Nice that you can make categories. Latest version here. Smooth (on my 128MB Uni)
EasyToday Launcher - @gewin, this is what you want! It's not self-populating, but I do like it. And as PalDragon pointed out, you can add other Today items with it, if you wish.

i completely agree, its not free though but worth it...
Hi Jonny.. can you please attache some pics of your today screen if you haven't yet, I use HTC Home its got all i need even wheather, Messaging etc... But i wonder if its possible to add some applications to the wm6.5 on that cool up down slide. This made me stop using HTC Home but now i have some app's missing on my today.
my today screen is unintersting. I use WM6.5 'Ron Arad Orange' with CHome editor* for my apps (piccy1). I used to have weather plugin* but this seemed to make my GPS navigation freeze intermittently. I use QuickMenu* for my task switcher (piccy2) and iReflect icons* in my start menu (piccy3) with honeycomb start menu*. (Also, once used ATContacts widget*).
However I am still looking for a good 'app launcher' for games. I use fexploreext* set to 'Icon View' (see piccy4&5). Sadly fexploreext doesn't seem to work in WM6.5.1
I did once create a HomeScreen++ theme* for back when it was BatteryStatus, but haven't kept it up to date. It also had weather. The funny thing about weather widgets is that whenever I want to look at the forecast, I always want to update it ... so it seemed reasonable to stick with weather from an internet page! (perhaps because in UK weather is so changeable, I don't know!)
however, I am beginning to like SPB Mobile Shell (unsure how long the trial is for). What themes are people using? enigma1nz? phezthie?
FEWidgets and throttlelauncher seem similar, but a poor mans copy?
*if you want any of these files, just PM me.
spb mobile shell is really impressive and powerful (the latest is v3.5), ive been using ms v2 since tomal's 8.5. however, based from my experience, v3.5 is not advisable using tomal's wm6.5 roms (v9 & 10) due to slow response and occasional freeze. same with other wm6.5 cooked roms i tried, the reason why ram upgrade is imperative, at least for me, to enjoy the latest rom with latest spb.
off course, another solution i think is if our great uni rom chefs will always consider releasing vanilla of their great work...
UltimateLaunch

Setup is a bit of a hassle (I've been messing around in Android, so a lot of Windows Mobile/Phone stuff seems more complex to customize), but if you're willing to put in the time, it's a rock solid-app and can customize to a T. It's also the least memory-hungry of what I've tried.
The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't accommodate rotation very well unless you count out pixels and just set it up so that in landscape it looks good even though the bottom of your screen is cut off.
I've tried Lakeridge (think Titanic, flashy, but *will* crash), ThrottleLauncher, Win6.5, SPB, SBSH. I keep coming back to this.
I used most of the GI app there and i liked WAD2. and i used with my custom theme when i was in wm 6.1, now with 6.5 due to memory issue i can not run it. so i'm using titanium with some customization.... see pic's below...

A ROM with a different purpose ?

At present I'm using trhe newest Energy ROM. Nice work.
I just wondered if there was any ROMs made for easy of visual use.
I'm a but long in the eye now and find using the phone sometimes a strain on my eyes. Age and all that
The Energy ROM is very good but I probably only use about 1/20th of the apps and stuff it loads. Some of the ones it installs I don't even know what they do
I would love to see a ROM made for vision clarity, bigger fonts and more simple but just as useful front screens.
Is there any of the cooks that can advise me on this ?
Thanks
maybe it's not a rom, but a software that you need, like point ui : http://www.wm6software.net/utilities/pointui_1_5.html
not the lame 2.0 which tries to do exactly the same as touchflo, spb etc, but the 1.5, which was very very eye and finger friendly, especially on small screens like the one on touchpro, with big icons, big texts, big lists etc..
so can I get a ROM with none of this HTC touch slide screen and Sense, maybe just a really basic front end.
well I've installed that app, started it and all I get is a blue blob start up screen than nothing happens.
Rom
If you are looking for a simple rom with a good user interface I usually go back to the basic Euro Touch pro rom. I then add a few apps by cab that I need but I also add SPB Mobile shell to it. Retains all the hardware funtionality. I of course turn off TF3D.
SPB can replace your start menu and for bigger fonts go to start\settings\system\screen and enable cleartype and adjust your font size.
When I install this rom I usually install the following apps for basic and a little advanced user functionality:
SPB Mobile shell 3.5 (UI) -Worth the money-
Advanced config 3.3 (changing pagepools and storage locations)
Total Commander 2.5 (self-explanatory)
GPSTest 1.04 (for GPS locking)
SKtools (easy tweaking and cleaning-latest version-I bought it at pocketgear.com)
Bing (directions, searching, Navigating etc.)
Lumos (latest version for backlight control)
Touch Response (latest version-simulated haptive feedback)
Microsoft MyPhone (Secondary sync)
Of course it is all based on taste. Just thought I would stick that out there for ya.
Font size is at its largest, isn't enough
I have to say out of whats on the phone with this energy ROM i think I only use 3 things, and one is now missing in the new ROM.
Phone
Wi-Fi Router
Notes and Tasks.
Google Maps
Facebook
SMS
Freecell
Mostly hooked up to my PC with MyMobile so I can use my big screen. never browse now as the screen is to small.
Just looked at thr Captains basic ROM

Why don't you try my Titanium ROM then ? It's pretty basic, IMO
Trouble I have is reading through all the threads on a ROM, theres just to much old rubbish per thread. I can't filter out whos going on about which version and which ROM is which.
Pruning should be compulsory
They get all wrapped up in tech speak and CHt HTc DDL ROM RAM NND GGH OOH, which doesn't mean a thing to me, or probably a lot of people
Ill try yours out now
What else would I need. I want the Wi-Fi and a few tools but none of the
ArkSwitch ( no idea what it is)
Backup Fav ( never use Fav to start with)
CHT ( turned that off straight away)
Shake and whatever ( why)
World Card ( Useles)
XDA UC ( no idea)
BINg
well you get the picture
There was a good simple task manager in the last ROM but its missing now
And I liked the page with all short-cuts to you most used apps. It looked like the iPhone, very handy to use.
TAEL roms are pretty good
OK I'm lost wheres the Energy Titanium please

TAEL, is that a ROM type or the maker of the ROM ?
Thanks
Rom
Yes TAEL is the chef of the rom.
I am currently using captains manilla 2.1 rom. Pretty basic uses the old TF3D type interface. but still has newer features. The only thing missing would be the facebook app. but that can be installed via cab. Seems to be simple enough yet has plenty of tools to get the job done. It has the simple HTC task manager as well.
Does Pointui.Home.1.5a.Wm5. work on it
Ahh I see it says WM5 I wonder if that why it doesn't work on mine.
Trying the Cpts one, systems font seems smaller and I can't seem to find any O2 UK set up cab anywhere
Font size???
It does enlarge through screen settings but I can try and find a magnifier that could swipe across the screen. Of course most of the chefs have knowledge enough to make a "handicapped" rom as microsoft sells it in windows. (Magnifier , speech etc.)
What would be good is an App like the iPhone one that turns the phone into a magnifier. I could deff use that when I was out to read labels and small stuff.
Using
TAELROM_v4.23569_STANDARD_21MAY10
Cpts one I couldn't get the O2 settings for.
i have found something that might help you http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/WinMobile-Magnifier-27412.shtml
Well I gone and brought an iPhone, please don't shout , Only way I can see if it is suitable for me is hands on.
Probably wrong place to ask but anyone recommend a decent iPhone forum ?
Thanks
Still got the HTC so all is not lost
