GPS problems in raphael models, first and second generations? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I read a dutch review on the HTC Touch Pro and it had one very interesting section (Translation below):

Translation:
The device became very hot during navigation. You could basically bake an egg on it. The GPS receiver gets very warm. Another point we have to mention is the mediocre GPS-reception. Often it disappeared and we didn't have any for a few seconds. Also in the city this was not up to par. Enquiry learns us that the first series of Touch Pro models has problems with the GPS receiver. This has been solved in version 2. It is not clear whether this was only the ase with our reveiw model. So pay attention when buying the device that you get a version 2 Touch Pro and not one from the first series. Try the GPS-receiver and see if you stumble upon our problems as well. If so, return to the shop.

Does anyone know more about this? First and second series... Could explain thef act that some people have problems while others don't. I'll also try to contact HTC about this...

If someone knows more about this, please speak up. :|

that would mean trouble for htc
hello guys, i hav e just received my Touch pro from HI well seems like its working fine and the gps is ok, though i haven't tested it well, just with the simple Google maps it was running very well. i actually tried to look everywhere to see like a REV2 or something like that but no luck. and as usual the HI or KPN people dont know anything.
i hope some revelations will be made around this issue soon.
Kevin

How are they distinguishing version 1 from version 2?
My TP does not get hot at all when using GPS. I have found it can get abnormally hot when Wifi is set to Performance mode (but under Power-saving or balanced modes, it's fine).
I do have a separate GPS unit I use for my car which does get rather warm, but that's only because the sun is shining directly on it for a long time while I'm driving. I can't help but think that might cause some misleading temperature readings.

doesn't get as hot as my kaiser got doing the same thing

I'd be suprised if there was already a revision of the Touch Pro since it effectively is already a revision of the Diamond in terms of the major hardware.
I.e. if there was something wrong with the Touch Pro gps that meant they had to upgrade the revision to 2 then you'd assume that was also the case for the Diamond since it's basically the same under the hood.

I have this GPS problem
Hi,
I have my TP since almost three weeks.
At first, everything worked to my expectation. In fact, I was positively surprised by the quality the device seemed to have.
After three weeks of intensive use, unfortunately my view changed.
The balck paint on the aluminum part of the screen frame goes off (reported also here in the forum by other users).
The device freezes over night so my alarm does not sound.
And the GPS receiver gets very hot after ~30min constant use.
Then, all of a sudden, Tomtom (and also other programs like GPS Test, Google Maps,...) loose GPS reception in short frequences.
Tomtom actually sais "No GPS device" for 2-5 sec, then find it back, gets a fix back, and breaks down again.
Very annoying.
One of many reasons, why I asked my retailer (2call.nl) to take the device back and send me a new one (hoipefully version 2 or 3, or whatever HTC brough up to solve all this problems).
Unfortunately, 2call.nl is not willing to take the device back, even though I informed tham about this within first two weeks after purchase.
Now I raised a log at HTC customer service to get my device replaced dirctly from them.
They offered repair, but I rejected (otherwise I would get the same **** back that I have now - called version 1 of TP).
Btw: If anyone finds out how to distinguish version one from version 2, please share.
Regards,
ARo

This is the first time I read something like this myself so I have no idea whether or not there are different generations. The article doesn't explain either how one could determine their generation...
So basically I have no idea if above is actually the case but I found it interesting/remarkable to read so just wondered if more was known about this...

Serial Numbers!?
Hey people, just a thought but if you post your serial numbers and we see what the deal is, just the first few digits, for instance my raphael is as follows:
Model: RAPH10000
S/N: HT833....
Just the first few numbers will do as this tends to show when it was built or which batch it was from etc...

There could also be a correlation to the vendor, depending on when they received their shipments.
Mine is: RAPH100, S/N HT833

I'll join that club:
Serial: HT833
Model: HTC Touch Pro T7272 (from settings -> device info... correct?)

RAPH100
S/n HT832
I don't have any of the probs reported by aro. I do have a bit of GPS lag in TT7 (which I didn't have on the Diamond).

Model: HTC Touch Pro T7272 (now that I look at this, I thought it said RAPH100 before I flashed, but not 100% sure, can the model name change due to a flash?)
Serial: HT832...
To complement this info: I have not noticed the problem described in this thread yet, but I'll test over the next few days.
edit: i have the GPS lag in TT7 as well, but I think others have reported GPS lag to go away (or come back) by changing tomtom versions and/or flashing another rom, so that does not seem model-related

Model: HTC Touch Pro T7272
S/N: HT832K
I don't have any of the probs reported by aro. I do have a bit of GPS lag in Igo8 and TT7

HT833....
No overheating, a bit of gps lag and i'd say not so good reception, but overall it's usable.

Perhaps add any info you think should be added to the wiki page people?

Model: HTC Touch Pro T7272
S/N: HT836
Havn't had any problems so far, although the keyboard is a bit wobbly..
Does everyone else have that too?

HTC 835KA...
Raph120
No real Problems with the Hardware so far.
No overheating etc...
GPS fix for the first time tooks quite long, as normal, now in 30 sec.

T7272
HT832...
(sh*t)

Model: HTC Touch Pro T7272
S/N: HT832
No overheating when using GPS although some lag and even stopping when using CoPilot for Touch Diamond.

E-Ten G500 What do you think

Okay I THINK this isn't an HTC device but I wanted to know if anyone has looked into it.
I really like the built-in GPRS and Bluetooth 2.0
I do know that it doesn't have WIFI but on my PDA2K I don't really even use the wifi so it's not a big loss for me.
I also wanted to know if anyone knew of a website like this for that device, I really like the way people help here and would hate to not have a place to go like this if I did buy the G500.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated
http://www.etencorp.com/products/Communication/G500.php
I just bought 50, for a specific purpose, but first impressions are:
rugged
stable
small
but
average battery life using GPS
no sodding instruction manual
FM radio promised but not yet released
No Keyboard
No WiFi
i haven't tried to install any GPS software yet, but i can confirm the hardware works virtually underwater, as we use it to track drivers as well as mobile data.
We're paying £272 plus VAT, and for our purposes it's great - which doesn't involve wifi or keyboard....
if the battery life was better i'd be buying 100 more
I'd suggest also thinking about the Mio A701.
I think it does everything the G500 does but is smaller. I went for it over the G500 mainly because of it's size. And also because it takes full size SD cards
Hi mach1!
There is a forum for ETEN owners:
http://www.eten-users.net
One thing you should consider is that this device uses mini-sd so there is no SDIO support, thus no way to add WiFi if you decide you need it.
Also no EDGE, HSCSD or 3G so forget about dissent internet access.
Any way, you should check out http://www.gsmarena.com. They got info on phones (PDA / Smartphones) from all leading companies including ETEN, all arranged nicely with full specs and user ratings and comments.
No prices though...

We have 10 of the a701 and 5 a700 yes thay are a bit smaller but
thay are not as stable as the G500 we use ours for personal tracking etc
and have not had any problems with then at all
and thats with tomtom and our own GPS tracking software.
hope this helps
bought a mio a701 and to be honest i really like it and i think it'll go a long way before i replace her. tried out the gps navigation using mapking (in bangkok) and i sure didn't get lost. the voice nav told me where to go and such and from there all went fine. i didn't get the eten because of the mini-sd; all of my accessories are using sd card (example; my digicam). i also like the mio because of the looks and the size. i'm not a fan of wifi nor do like having a keyboard so it works fine for me. mio will be releasing a rom sometime later on and that will support push email AND a2dp (for stereo bluetooth function). since i use an itech clip s headset it's just a matter of waiting until the new rom is released. when i listen to the tunez i can hook up my bluecon bt adaptor which allows me to listen wirelessly.
cheers
A701 GPS
Were currently testing both the A70 and G500. Has anybody seriously tested the 'location call' software on the A701?
In the tests we have performed the GPS position is incorrect. In a comparison between TomTom and Visual GPSCE the position do differ. I am assuming there is an offset or algorithm which computes the correct location.
What i'm looking for is a program which does the same thing as location call, i.e. send your gps position by sms, but actualy send the correct gps position.
Has anybody come across one?
Cheers
Paul
E-TEN G500 bought instead Qtek 2020i (waiting for Qtek S310)
Hi,
I changed devices cause i wanted integrated gps. Sometimes you're in your car and the bluetooth receiver is at home (for safety of stealing), and sometimes pairing bluetooth takes a while.
Actually i'm waiting for the HTC Trinity (Qtek G200) or Qtek S310.
Both devices will be with GPS & WIFI inclusive.
The Qtek S310 looks very spacy and will be released end of 2006 (hopefully).
At the moment I also have an all-in, the E-TEN G500 with SPECTEC MINI WIFI-SDIO CARD. I like the smooth blue colourlines / size / battery and functions.
I updated the rom to the 0097 and now can receive FM radio & TMC (Traffic messaging control) which gives you information about busy traffic and leads you away from it. This only works when you connect the wired headset as antenna, but no problem.
Now that it's also become an all in, i'm doubting to buy the new upcomming Qteks, I like this E-TEN very much, smooth look, compact, processor very good, and carkit included in package!
I never doubted about the Mio A701, the E-TEN is a much cooler device. Only the sound quality & speaker is less, but I love this device!

The "my TyTn works just fine" post

I get scared real easy, and I'm now starting to worry about the TyTn. Several people are now reporting problems with these devices, including serious hardware problems.
So please comfort me; your TyTn works just great right?........righ?
Mine is fine so far, no key problems or screen alignments only problem i have is slow access to web sites with tmobile
Cheers
Chris
This is a good idea, but unfortuntely your going to get a pretty skewed result seen how most ppl that have issues are on these boards because they want to resolve them, if your device is working fine its less likely you will be at this juncture to post 'all's well'.
It seems a massive amount of problems seem to be directed to the Vodaphone models and not necessarily the TyTN models. Also other forums arent reporting wide spread problems, and furthermore I just spoke (email) with 2 other Australians who had purchased HTC TyTNs from USA, and they havent had any issues with their devices.
I hope this information is of some comfort to you. If it helps I had the same feeling with the jasjar as it had widespread complaints, although m ainly software ones which I knew could and were addressed.
Trion ... Can't stop singing praises
Really happy with my Trion.
I had started with the original XDA which was the first one of it's kind and kind of cool but that quickly fell out of use due to the phone usability and the need to always use a stylus. I was really happy with the Smartphones as it really was usable using one hand but when the Trion came out I thought it was time to take the plunge back to a PPC, well at least as a office phone. Haven't looked back. Thejog dial button works a charm and with all the extra buttons you can actually use the Trion full time without use of the stylus. WLAN functions perfectly even with Skype. Push email functions like a charm syncing contacts and calander, tasks and email instantly (I recommend mail2web as a cheap way of implementing push email). A2DP actually works and is finally usable especially with the A2DP improvement hack. Now listening to music is crystal clear with no skipping (I'm using the Motorola HT820 which gives start stop pause functionality and with some other hacks you can program the speaker button to trigger programs such as voice command). Tomtom works fine. Definately the 400 Mhz CPU has made the Trion function well with most apps.
The size is slightly smaller than the Wizard but it actually makes a huge difference. Pictures are actually usable with 2MP and a flash light which helps a bit as well.
I finally found the perfect business phone I can use!
TYTN
Mine work fine now for 3 weeks w/o any soft reset.
English version from the Netherlands
Only 2 time (in the night) he was crashed but I think it's because I use pocket wakeup.

Mine is fine (vodafone v1605) although I cant get vodafone live just a blank screen but the rest of the web is great. No Issues after a hard restet when I first got it, it seems I wasnt the first person with it as I didnt have to set it up and it had 2 minutes on the call timers. But apart from that mine works great.
hey,
i've had my v1605 for a total of 22 hours now. I got mine on a wicked upgrade deal (released from contract for free and got handset for free too)

Mine works very well....I never soft reset it, I've had it for 2 days and it works great!!!!!!

Tried hard-reset, no luck. Ended up returning the device for a swap-out.
I had the same problem. Called yesterday and got replacement from ATT today. I've dome some research, it appears to be a common issue with this model, or as Vladimir and I would call it - PIZDETS.
Well, what can I say? We have to hope that Palm will eventually fix it...
Hey Guys,
I do a hard reset yesterday at my Treo 750 ---> No calibration and no response.

New Orbit tt can't find gps receiver

I have a registered tt6 which I bought for £70 odd. It worked fine in my old orbit. Then that one broke, what happens is it doesn't respond to screen touch, fortunately as I have the rollerball set as a pointer I can actually use it though slow. The reason for saying this is that I haven't yet sent it back because tt works on it, whereas the new phone using the exact same memory card and set exactly the same as the other phone, tt doesn't find the gps device.
I am using 9600 baud com 9.
Phoning 02 results in lots of baming i.e. ring tom tom, or ring the number on your bill, or go into an o2 shop.
I have spent much money on these premium rate options (except going into a store as yet) but non of them want to own the problem suggesting I phone (at premium rate) yet another number.
The reason I haven't yet gone into an 02 shop is mainly because last time I went in to ask an orbit question I knew about four times as much about the darned thing than the spotty herbert who is wanting to be the next millionaire by selling phones for company's who don't know how to provide an after sales service.
I note that the operating system for the latest orbit is most certainly better than the old one, and it occurs to me the problem might be a hardware one.
Is there a cluster of this problem or am I just unlucky?
Took it into o2 shop this morning, forst he tried to say it was tomtom then I showed it working on the other orbit I have, then he tried to say we have had a lot of trouble with tomtom that is why we use palm pilot, so I said, have you got a demo copy? Yes, right put it in here. Sure enough it didn't find the gps receiver either.
So reluctantly he agreed to send my new phone for repair.
Hmm, you spoke to a muppet, the config is Com 4 at 9600 Baud, or if you have TT 6,020 or 6,030 installed (which you should have) just select the inbuilt GPS receiver option when configuring the GPS within the TomTom application - DO NOT mess around with the GPS applet on the device as this can screw things up unless you know what you want from it - it is best left alone for this very reason - Mike

I-Mate JAQ4?

I bought a I-MATE JAQ4 from a software developer about 8 months ago. I guess this model never went into production, and the phone is a prototype. I-MATE quit the JAQ line. Oh well.
Anyway, anybody know what alternative OS builds I can install on this thing? I am guessing it is not too much different than the JAQ3, it just has WM6 on it.
Any insightful information about this device would be appreciated.
Thanks.
*bump*.....
Imate Jaq4
I also have a the Imate JAQ4 (which is a prototype) - I have been in touch with Imate (via their site) apparently the model is due for release anytime now in this country.
Try checking out the site for suitable downloads.
The only problem I have now encountered is finding a replacement battery - I had to do a hard reset on my unit and since then the battery wont charge (unless any one out there knows a way to jump start the battery back to life).
Everywhere I have tried that advertise compatable batteries do not seem to carry any stock.
I am not sure what is going on with the I-Mate JAQ4, however...
Isn't the same as the Pharos Traveler M619 (http://www.pharosgps.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=001%5FPTL619%5F7%2E9&cat=136 )? I got one, pretty good, but slow processor and low memory (very similar to the Dash, at least it seems to me, but with bigger screen, touch screen and gps, )
There currently not much support in the way of firmware upgrades, but they did release version 6.1 a while back.
GPS refuse SD CARD ,WHY?
my configuration: 2G MICRO SD WITH ADAPTER
when i launch GPS , sd disappear and can't be accessed. i have to plug out and insert again.
why?
there is some patch for this bug .
thanks
