Hi, everyone...
First off, thanks for a great forum! You guys have helped me get the perfect phone - almost...
I have been using ifonz and various other goodies to iphone up my TyTn ii. It looks and works great now appart from Outlook! When I go to send emails it looks like SH*T! Is it possible to skin outlook or replace it with a more 'iphone' like 'black' (maybe even finger friendly) look? I use Pocket CM for SMS but it doesn't handle emails well in my view. I've looked around the forums but found nothing much, am I missing something or is there just nothing out there? Appreciate any help!
No one help?
Does no one have any knowledge or info on this?
Please help if you can.....
I haven't seen any actual Outlook skins, but I do know that you can use UITweaker to change the theme colors which in turn will change the background, and overall colors that Outlook uses..not exactly what you were looking for, but just a thought...
i would have thought its possible, if other programs can handle sms messages, but it'll be a case of someone writing it.
Thanks
thank you,
will look into it...
Maybe it has something to do with the proprietry nature of exchance/mapi protocol... there are very few if any exchange replacements for PC...

Hey guys!
I did a thorough search of these forums and was amazed to find nothing about the wonderful program DateLens Calendar. (Apparently it used to be called FishCal).
It's a front-end for the clunky Calendar in WM5 and it has a very interesting GUI. Not "interesting-gimmicky", "interesting-FUNCTIONAL!"
It's freeware, so check it out here:
http://www.windsorinterfaces.com/datelens.shtml
Enjoy!
Dax.
I forgot to mention...
Only problem I've found with the program is that is doesn't have an icon, as in, it uses the default program icon, which is kinda ugly.
Never fear! I realised that it should be possible to use icon from a DLL file as a program icon (Just like in Windows xp, 98, etc)
Simply open the shortcut in something like PHM Notepad and add the following to use the standard Calendar icon.
?outres.dll,-10002
So the contents of the shortcut file should now look something like this:
45#"\Program Files\DateLens PPC\DateLensApp.exe"?outres.dll,-10002
Snoop around; Opening other shortcuts in PHM Notepad will reveal some interesting syntax. I think I saw one that said something like "Icon=" but I can't find it again.
Psst!: In PHM Notepad, don't forget to change the file types from *.txt to *.* or you won't see the shortcuts!
Ohhh maaan!
This puppy doesn't seem to work correctly!
It's great as a proof of concept, but doesn't function properly on my handset.
(I noticed when I try to enter a date, it comes up with a year of 1753!)
The author says that it could be due to regional settings, but this has not fixed it the problem in my case.
Has anyone else tried it and got it to work?
Now that I've seen it in operation, I can't stand to go back to other software! Even AgendaOne!
Dax.
Yes, I have the year 1753 problem as well. My regional settings is of the UK region. And when I tried to make it 2007, it goes 9988. Anyway, I bet it may be caused by WM5 problem rather than regional settings. Also, it seems slow in starting the app as well. Much slower than what I've experienced with other PIM (e.g. PocketInformant). However, once you had it in the memory, it seems alright.
Having said that, this app rocks! I wonder why it isn't getting the publicity that it should. SEE THE VIDEO DEMO HERE!!
It is sooooo aye-Fone-ish. They should have done more advertisements. I bet other PIM (probably Apple?) will like to have get their interface
Thanks Hanmin!
Much appreciated!
That calendar app looks very promising. Anyone talk to the developer yet on the WM5 issue??
He's said that he won't be working on it anymore, despite the fact he still thinks the concept is good (So do we!!), BUT that he is considering open-sourcing it.
Even if he does this, we would need dedicated & talented programmers to work on the code.
Do we have any takers?
Has the author released the source yet??
Holy crap, this is amazing. Well done on finding this little gem, I've been looking all over for an outlook replacement that was easier to work with but wasn't overloaded with to many features.
This is a great find, free as well! bonus.
Very nice. Has anyone figured out how to enter new appointments with the correct year and day?
@Kwan: No, unfortunately not. What we need is for everyone who's interested to ask the author to make it open source. I'm happy to co-ordinate the SourceForge site and he's already sent me the code, we just need his permission to open source it.
His name is Ben Bederson: [email protected]
Please be polite and courteous! If he says no, please don't hassle him. (But I really hope he says yes!)
All the best,
Hi. I'm new here. This app looks great! Has there been any updates? Has anyone tried it on WM6?
This is where you'd find updates if there were any.
You need to email Ben if you want this thing to go anywhere. We need all the support we can get!
ei.. you are back hows your effort with the code?
This app is pretty nice. I have been using it for the past day.
There are some issues with it though. Creating appointments causes an error and makes the app crash. It just needs to be fine tuned a little more.
Extremely impressive and works on my HTC Wizard running WM6 minus the already mentioned issues. I've done my part by sending Ben an email. Anyone have any new info on the appointment entry and date fixes? It is really all this app needs to be fully functional and more intuitive than any other calendar on the market. I can't believe this thing has gotten no press.

Because probable nobody knows about it. This is posted in the General forum. It needs to be posted in the Development and Hacking forum to get more traffic.
yes every day there is the same question and thing I'm doing, looking to the web for news about new MS mobile devices..and now thinking about buying the Vox. But the only thing so far I couldn't live with is that there should be big delay when opening or closing the keyboard.
How do you rate this?
Its a few seconds...maybe more if you have many apps running in the backround, but then everything runs slow when thats happening on any WM device... dosent bother me...
Regards - John
To be honest in my opinion its not as bad as other make it seem, as long you keep tabs on the programs you have running in the background every now and not running with only 1mb free memory then you shouldn't have a problem. One tip you can try is disabling the sound it plays when switching views in the settings. Made the switch slightly faster in my opinion.
Without the Sound it is maybe 2 times faster..
thanks guys for your prompt answers!!
Do you have a clou whether the important progs like PocketInformant or AgendaOne are running without problems in landscape mode?

I use AgendaOne and I haev not had an issue with it switching orientation. However Documents to Go has a problem as does SmartPhoneNotes - they will not fill the screen, you get a scroll-bar on the righe, pretty much making it still portrate..

hi John
I thought one doesn't need smartphonenotes anymore as WM6 should have its own notes taking application?
As well as Office Mobile (doc, xls, ppt) should be on board, isn't ?
I really don't see what the fuss is about speed of the screen rotation. Its not like it takes several minutes. Approx 1-3 seconds depending on what's running in the background is perfectly fine.
hi guys, I don't want to make the Vox bad, I'm asking because I had the same issue with HTC Hermes, which was also quite ok after I disabled the sound. It also depends on how many applications are installed, loaded in memory, how much memory is free etc. But reading one of the serious reviews like the one from mobile-review - I rather ask for opinions of users before I buy it.
Thank you all
Can somebody tell how is it with the mobile office? Is it really not included with Vox as I read also somewhere? And is there a mobile note application synchronizing with Outlook?

You can edit existing documents but you cannot create ones, correct?
How about the notes application - possible to synchronize them with desktop?

Yes it has them...but WM6 does not allow for creation of new items in Office Mobile (although there is a hack to get around that) but I personally find Documents to Go a better offering than what MS gives you. I have word docs sent via email that dont load in Word mobile (on WM5 or WM6) yet have no problem in DTG...
There is also a 3rd party notes app - but no way to Sync to Outlook, thus I use SmartPhoneNotes.

You know...not to go way off topic here, but I thought I was going crazy one night because I could not figure out why there was no Calculator on the VOX...it never crossed my mind that it would be under "Office Mobile".... Since I never go in there with DTG installed - makes no sense at all to me for it to be in there...
My 2 cents
John
this is really a place one should go to - getting answers by like-minded people.
RE notes / synchronization - you know that there is a new beta out there of phatnotes by phatware? It supports WM6, might be a solution also for the landscape issue with smartphonenotes described by John...?

Didn't know about it to be honest, will have to swing by their site and look it up.
I guess I should note that DTG and Smartphonenotes are landscape aware, I used them just fine on my BlackJack...and I noticed today actually that if you start them in landscape mode they auto-rotate just fine....its only when you start in portrait mode that they go whacky...
Take care - John
Since i started using Windows Mobile phone i have been realising how simple a fast Palm OS is. Especially the Calendar in Palm.
Is there a way to use Palm OS:s Calendar on Windows Mobile?

(big sigh...)
I wish there was a way! I miss the Palm Calendar, and even more: I miss DTBK5!!!
Unfortunately I believe the answer is no.
Y.
ive tried so many different calendar applications for ppc but none of them really can take Palms place...
wonder if someone can make a rip of Calendar from Palm Os. Im already enjoying Treos great threaded sms.
I've noticed that the PalmOS Agendus calendar program is now available on PocketPC, so perhaps that brings a bit of the PalmOS style calendar to the Windows world?
Peter, thank for the tip.
Checked it out. It doesnt look as Palm Calendar at all. Its just...too much.
The simple yet smart Palm Calendar...fast and few clicks.
i guess ive become one of those nostalgic ex Palm users nagging about WM.
Yet theres still hope. Im sure someone can make a copy someday.

Nik, yes - I understand. My wife uses a Palm Treo 680 and really likes the calendar app. It does look good, and fast. I've never cared for the WM calendar app much myself. The calendar entry form is OK, it is the views that I don't like much. I tried Pocket Informant but (IMhO) it is way too complex for my needs.
I use SBSH's PocketBreeze now. It is not a calendar but rather a Today screen plug in for the Calendar. So you still use the default Calendar to add appts, but you can use PB to view everything. It is quite powerful yet simple.

couldn't agree more.
I installed the trial version of Agendus and I find it too busy and cluttered. Almost unusable on the 750's screen. I think I will give it another day and then uninstall it.
Happy to join you club of ex Palmers winging about WM...

Hello,
I have been searching for a while now with no luck. Maby one of you knows,
I am looking for a calender, or actualy a calender mod, so that the manila calender on my hd2 in month view also show what week it is.
Example, right now it is week 8, or the end of it. so in month view I would like to have the number 8 infront of this weeks row, and a 9 infront (or actually to the left) of next week and so on. Do I make any sense?
Anyone knows how I can make this happen?
best regards Johan
I would be thakful for the same thing
if you do not insist of Manila calender to do so, you can try to use PortablePIM.
The software can be switched to English under options (the light blue icon)
Thanks for the help,
I will try it and see how it works. It would be nice to have it in manila though...
Please...
Can someone make a mod for Us all...
I have asked the same question to HTC support... last month and still no answer from them.... shame,
News anyone
Hello,
Just wanted to post the question again.
Anyone seen any progress in this area?
I think it would be really nice to have the week number in the calender.
I agree. It's a weekly pain in the ass when at workplace we're deciding the next occassion for a meeting and the suggestions are almost always in "How about the Tuesday morning in week XX" format. I always have to ask what date are you talking about as my Sense calendar isn't able to display the week number in any of the available views.
I also want one :-D
I would be much more thankful if there is also a little Moon icon which says half/full moon etc. and, that would be best, a possibility to import holidays.
All that i a way that it is not shown in the agenda but only in the calendar itself
A app for HTC sense showing week numbers would be very nice.
I now use a quick link to the Windows calendar to look up the week numbers
ThumbCal
I found an application called thumbcal that seem to work well. The only sad part is that you need to buy it...
I prefer Aganda One - but you also have to pay for it...
I would like week nrs. in hTC Calendar as well, meanwhile i look into WM Calendar:

here's a list of things i wish to change:
sms
email
contacts (i did use icontact but i didnt like it)
calculator
calender
im looking for some half decent games too, as the only one i have is solitaire.
also, is there a away to have some kind of foldered today screen, and start screen, like how the settings pages are set out
