I really think that WM Smartphone is the better of the two OS's due to its one-handed nature...but when will HTC wake up and stop making behemoths!!! Why is HTC730 sooo damned big!? I want a phone that is small like the HTC Touch but that runs WM Smartphone (or at least is completely one-handed).
Does anyone know of any other phone manufacturers that have actually done this and still manged to include WiFi?
FYI: I have a Qtek 8310 (HTC Tornado)
Shadow too big for you? You got little porcelain doll hands?

Got S730. Size is absoulutely perfect - not too small, not too big (my previous device was HTC TyTN). The mechanism of the keyboard seems to me stable after 2 mnths. What more could I ask?
Of course, if it would be integrated into watches with a holographic 50'' touchscreen, it'd be great
Haha, no porcelain hands here. I haven't seen the Shadow in person, but I'll look into it (does it have WiFi?).
You know the S730 is perfect, except for the fact that its bigger than new gen WM Prof phones. That just seems sooo counter intuitive to me.
To put it into perspective, here's a volume comparison with the smallest phone coming first:
Volume (mm^2) // Device
(1) 80539.38 // Touch
(2) 92983 // Touch Dual
(3) 98890 // Touch Cruise
(4) 104678.52 // S730
(5) 125552 // Tilt (TytnII)

Hey I don't know what do you want. I think this device is aimed for those who use it to work and to talk hardly. It absolutely suits this purpose. S730 is smaller than Nokia N70 which I consider to be a ideal sized (just sized!). From my point of view it is perfect, but of course it's just my opinion.

HTC Cavalier - The best smartphone there is (for the moment).
Cheers
You mentioned the Touch, isn't the Excalibur about the same dimensions as the Touch? The Excalibur (TMO Dash) does have Wifi.
Samsung also has the SGH-i600 which has Wifi.
I have a Shadow, LOVE IT. Inexpensive when comparing to the other phones like the S730 or such.
The only thing this phone is missing to make it the ultimate phone is a longer battery life(we are waiting for an extended life battery), led flash on the camera, 3g and GPS (although I heard GPS could be added via gps bluetooth receiver, not sure)
Another option would be the BENQ E72 which is the smallest WM Standard I believe.
E72 looks great, but it's also really, really expensive!

Hi guys just wondering if I could get some of your thoughts on my situation. Want to buy a new phone to replace my Xda Exec. The problem with my exec is that it is a bit bulky. Want to get something within the next few months, and cost is not a factor. A few of my choices for the replacement are:
-Samsung SGH-i600
*big fan of the slim design plus all connectivity options
-HTC Artemis
*the mouse seems cool but probably wouln't use GPS
-Nokia N95
*seems it has everything
-HTC TyTN
*wouldnt have to wait to buy it but I wanted to go with something different that slide out which I already had with UTStarcomm 6700
If you could pick one of these which would you choose and why? Also any other suggestions would be well appreciated...
Well personally:
Not the Samsung SGH-i600 - because it is a Smartphone, no touch screen, limited apps.
Not the Nokia N95 - because it runs Symbian.
The choice between Artemis and TyTN is a tough one. If you are sure you won't miss the keyboard and you don't mind waiting I would definitely recommend the Artemis. It has way more stuff.
i'd say Trinity
because it have 3g
Not the Samsung - too basic, not the Nokia (could be a decent phone if it ran a decent operating system - forget multiple apps under Symbian).
Artemis - slower processor than the Tytn, but a nice phone. But if you don't need built in GPS I'd go for the Tytn.
Richard
As with others, the candidates are..
==HTC Artemis
- I like it as it does not have a keyboard
==HTC TyTN (my choice)
- I like the WiFi (if I have to choose that with a GPS - can always have a GPS mouse in my car, IF I have a car)
Thanks
Thanks for the suggestions guys, must be right. Should just stick with a WM pocket pc phone. Probably go with the Artemis since the processor is faster; i really dislike how slow my Exec got at times.
Cant find no release date, guess i have to play the waiting game now.
i600 for me if you must
I believe GPS/ppc cannot be a phone at the same time, at least for now.
Not for serious/business use at any case.
best solution VGA ppc+small fast phone.
vga because its stupid to give so much money for ugly qvga with monster pixels.
my opinion.
depends on what you want to do...if you want to use it as a Phone first pda second then go for nokia or samsung because htc's GSM radio implimentation is BAD
if its a pda first thing then go for a ppc...which one would depend on which suits you
So..HTC will (or already did) bring out a few new devices, and I just cant wait to get my hands on a Htc Kaiser. What will be your next device?
HTC TOUCH
HTC S710
HTC Kaiser
HTC Omni
I think I didnt forget one..
I say; bye bye htc tytn
Nike

Polaris

Nope you can't - They all HTC handhelds.
For me it has to be Polaris( I use Artemis already)
I am however tempted by the Omni - as the ultimate convergence handheld
ill only get the kaiser if it has the 1700mhz and 2100mhz bands that can work with tmo us 3g.
Well I had my eye on the Nike since I saw it on www.pdadb.com
Funny that their picture looks better than HTC's (it is still Photoshop).
Though now I am considering getting the Neo 1973 (I know not HTC device) and waiting with my Jamin for something better from HTC (maybe next gen OS based on CE 6)
I know the Neo is at least 3 years backwards hardware wise (no 3G / camera / WiFi) but it just sound like developers heaven.
You can even get a debug board for an extra 150$ but that kind of low level tweaking is beyond my abilities.
yeah but i think that nike pic is older then
the one in the later roadmaps so it could look
like htc changed their design
my next HTC device
maybe an HTC S730 (HTC Wings / Volans)
HTC OMNI
This is indeed a very nice device. The main problem is that the processor is really slow according to the specs.
By the way, is this device for real? I certainly don't think so. Let's all focus on the Imate 7150..
Definitely the Kaiser (the AT&T Tilt version of it)! The wait has been too long already!
I agree with the Nike or Polaris.
Also, the Juno for AT&T is coming out which is basically the VOX with 3G.
I just got myself a Touch. It's a bit of a girl's phone, but works well and is cute.
It's not a power phone, but then, it does everything I need it to, and I need it to do a lot [I wear a suit all day, and hate having my suit pocket dangle down when I'm carrying my Hermes. So the Touch is my "day" phone]
Kaiser will be fun, but there are too many new (chunky) HTCs coming out now, it's almost impossible to stay on top of all of them. But they really need to get VGA into their pocket sized phones. Anything else is just bells and whistles right now.
A Touch with VGA, GPS and a slider keyboard would be lovely.
But then again, so would conjugal visits from Winona Ryder, and that's not happening either right now.

The Imate 7150 has been cancelled, the Omni looks to be a year away and will not feature a 400mhz processor but at least a 520mhz.
Personally I've been waiting for nearly 2 years for a replacement for my Universal, and the Kaiser is the one I'm going for.
To me Polaris sounds like the next one but worth waiting also for HP Ipaq 600 or 900

The cancellation of the Imate 7150 is rumor. You can check int the Web. Anyhow Imate7150 and HTC omni is Great Devices!(on the spec list)
However I am little concern of Imate 7150 it is the first device in such they will produce. In other hand HTC has already collected enough experiences with HTC Universal which is clearly great Device therefore I think Omni will be better choice. Well we wait to see how they come up.
Anyhow both Devices are "communicators" and sometimes size matter. Definitely vijay is right, they are not nice to carry them on your belt or in your pocket.
My dream Would be: HTC Polaris spec device ( 3.5" VGA is must) + clamshell (like by Uni) + keyboard + external small display, And All this packed in 100mm X 65mm X 18mm

if the 3.5" VGA is confirmed, I am a dilemma : HTC OMNI ,HTC Kaiser, HTC polaris
I love to have keyboard but I love as well the 3.5" VGA in compact size device
polaris! even though not in the poll
I guess my next PDA will be one of those. Up to now I was convinced it would be the P3600i, but TyTN II show muscles too. What do you people think?
What is important for me is that the device is:
1) Solid. I remember my HTC Wizard sliding in my pocket, very annoying.
2) Small (and especially thin). I want (and I guess everybody else ) the smallest device will the most features. I haven't missed much the keyboard of my Wizard since I've switched to Prophet, but it's handy nevertheless. Can someone compare the thickness of both?
3) Fast! My XDA Neo (HTC Prophet) drives me crazy sometimes with its slow CPU.
3.1) Can you compare the CPUs of both - 400Mhz vs 500 Mhz Samsung?
3.2) Can you compare the 64MB P3600i with the 128MB Kaiser?
4) Overall impression. Anyone?
if i wanted keyboard i would get kaiser
if not i would get polaris not 3600i

I agree with Rudegar's choice. Only thing needs to be mentioned: Polaris seem to be VGA 3.5" screen so it might be to big for your expectation.
I have a HTC universal and as it is to heavy for some occasions I just last week bought a HTC Hermes .
After 2 days usage I given it to my wife. it is good as a phone but when it comes to PDA it is to small.
My opinion! HTC has really missed to produce and improve such devices like the HTC Himalaya (3.5" screen)
Damn I would love to have the Polaris with keyboard.
Similar specs, with few differences with pros and cons, BUT whats your choice and why?
I like kaiser. Elegant, bit bulky but decent. Excellent keyboard and tilt screen just look very sexy in your hand or on the table. I have installed HTC Cube and new HTC Album, so it is working as Touch. Not sure if there is anyhting which I want and exists in polaris but not in TyTn II.
POLARIS or KAISER .....

Yeah...kaiser has everything more than Polaris...even the size...
Am also torn between the two I sold my Kaiser last weekend abroad and wanting to buy a replacement. The long wait for polaris may even send me into the iMate ultimate den
The decision is very easy. If you need a keyboard as your typing the whole day, go for the kaiser. If you need something light and handy get the cruise. The 200g weight of the Kaiser is no joke, you feel it pulling in every pocket. Just try to carry around two 100g bars of chocolate the whole day. 50g less with the Polaris is a tremendous difference. I gave back my Kaiser because of this.
Polaris, because of the sunlight readable screen.
(But subject to seeing the actual device first!)
Dear Santa,
I would like one of each please!!
Polaris all the Life!
size first of all! amazing!
better LCD display!
I like so much the central weel.
all the rest is FUFFA! (for me obviously)
Bye
Kaiser has a keyboard that can also tilt...that is fragile!!! I can't imagine with all the vibration of the car while the tytn2 is attached to the car consolle.
Go for Polaris of course.
Polaris is my choice.....
- best case
- hardest display
- better design
- compact size
Polaris. Better screen than Kaiser, I think, without the weight, bulk and the 'formal' look.
Apart that Kaiser is ugly, big, thick and heavy everything seems to be ok. Not a match for polaris but ofcourse I don’t need or want a keyboard
Each year has his own dilemma:
Wizard / Prophet
TyTn / Trinity
Kaiser / Polaris
What will be the next?
Over the last years I never owned a device with a keyboard and I don't need a keyboard on my 'phone' either.
So my choice was easy, Polaris! I also happen to like the looks more and the fact it's less bulky is also a major pro in my eyes.
On the other hand the Kaiser is a very nice device and I guess if you need to do a lot of typing on the device that one would have a major advantage because of the keyboard.
Just the way you look at it, the lack of keyboard is very important to me in a positive way. For others it's very important in a negative way. (negative as in: not in favour of Polaris).
video problems??
Does anyone know if the polaris has the same lack of drivers that cripples the kaisers video playback?
I'm also stuck between the 2, currently have hermes + love it
I'm a current Artemis user and the wheel is a godsend!! I would definitely go for the Polaris (and pass the Artemis to my wife.. hehe)
Also, I don't need a keyboard and I kinda like the idea of flushed screen.
Most users should be able to decide between the 2 depending on their keyboard requirement..
Anyways, why so some of ya say the Polaris has a better screen? Can elaborate?
Thanks

I am not sure if it is lack of drivers problem but there will be no difference in this issue bettwen Polaris kai Kaiser.
pretty sure i read somewhere that the polaris has different hardware that makes the touchflo stuff work better on it. but im not 100%

The Polaris screen will be the same as Touch. Compare the screen between Touch and Kaiser and you will figure out the answer by yourself!

The hardware is the same. The software is different (because it is a touch PPC). TouchFlo and Cube will work better because of the different screen, not the hardware inside tha device.
I too have heard the screen is different for the Touch/Cruise. How is it different? Can some ellaborate on the technical details and how they traslate to making the TouchFlo work better?
After using the TouchFlo features on the Kaiser/Tilt, I am not impressed. Quirky to the point that it is not even usable. I find it to be a novelty at best and too prone to swipes being "interpreted" as taps.
So how does the Cruise improve on this?
Hi,
Im looking for suggestions here. I am an avid Kaiser owner, and now i am looking to get the wife to upgrade from her Nokia e65 (s60v3)
The feature list that im looking for follows:
necessary:
Candybar form
3G compatible
numeric hardware keypad
Bluetooth
Wifi
important but not essential:
touchscreen
qwerty k/b
Dpad
The devices that appear to somewhat fit the (my) needs and (her) wants are:
WM6 pro
HTC Touch Dual (3G) this seems a good fit but doesnt have wifi
WM6 standard (non touch screen)
HTC Juno also good form factor but i dont know if its available in Australia
HTC Vox S710
HTC 730
Have i missed anything? What are your suggestions?
Thanks
When I read the title I've thought it was on of those joke posts about wife 1.0 upgrading to wife 2.0 and how much the upgrade costs!!!
I will let others say something about phones though as I am still holding my old beloved Universal till this date.
Cheers!
I would choose the s730 or consider also s621
It fits with your needs
the more i look at the S730 it looks bulky, and thats even whilst i own a Kaiser.
Plus i dont thinkg i can get that in Australia now.
The Touch Dual 850 looks to be the likely device.
I will have to see how my wife takes to it!
