did any one have the OS 6 PLease post me the direct link here

You are not CID unlocked. Go through the threads again. Follow each step!!!

I think he is confused. Most of the wm6 versions usualy start at 5.1xx,318 and up.
when you start your phone, got to settings/ about. that should tell you what windows you have.
as for the best rom, I would start with Faria's rom or the TNT roms. people say very nice things about them. I don't use them because the networking settings somehow don't work for me.
Make sure you READ the directions posted by Faria

Windows 6 is not truly a 6...as stated, it is various builds of 5.xxx (at least to my best knowledge, this is true). As for various builds, it depends on what you want. I use Jaguar as it is highly stable and quick. But, also as stated, you must be CID unlocked. If you are not certain of the difference in WM5 or WM6 builds, then I would very strongly suggest you read the various stickies and wiki at least twice before doing anything at all. You need to be CID unlocked. You need to know if you have a G3 or G4 Wizard (which has 2 different unlock methods). You need to understand how to flash a custom rom. There are plenty of WM6 roms here, and it seems there is some confusion for you, so please, READ READ READ first to clear up your confusion. Anything you do, you do at your own risk.

4. extract all the files from the exe you downloaded it into a folder
5. run upgraderom.bat or similar

And places to download upgraderom.bat or similar applications.
Be sure I know NOTHING about upgrading.

The first link sent was very clear and easy to apply.
But the suggested link is 11 pages long threath with again so much problems etc.
What I try to do is to figure out comleted, step by step installation guide.
For example:
1-download xxxx.zip from www.xxxx.com
2-download yyyy.exe from www.yyyy.com
3-download zzz.cab , ttt.cab and kkk.cab
3-extract xxxx.zip to C:/xxxx you will have aaa.cab,bbb.dat and ccc.tmp
4-run yyyy.exe go file->open, select bbb.dat and open it.

Is there any body that can provide this information for newbies.

Use the first page to get the rom . use the second link to fix the problems you have. I'm not sure why you have to run wm6 as a newbie? I think you better off stay on wm5 aku 3.x or 2.x its less bleeding edge, hence less bugs to worry about. I admit, once you start upgrade roms, you became hooked, you start try all kinds of roms, and at that point you wont be a newbie anymore. In case you will ask me where are the wm5 roms:

I would write you a guide from heart, no problem. But the point is that every ROM has it's own installation-procedure!
Some use the upgrade.bat, while others use the RUU (ROMUpdateUltility.exe).
Some need to be installed from bootloader, other one's need to be installed from within the OS itself.
That's why everybody who wants to flash ROM's on his device should know the basics of flashing.
And all the basics can be found in the wiki, mentioned here before.
After learning the basics, choose a ROM you want to use.
Then you should start reading every topic related to this ROM from 1st to last post, like we all did when
we wanted to flash our first ROM!!
When you've read everything, you'll know exactly what to expect and what to do..
I decided to do so.
Even I have read related threads and deciden to open this thread to prepare a installation guide think it wont work because of the reasons that you mentioned.
I'll follow smart1's ROM page and after I belive in there is no fatal error on the rom I'll flash it to my prophet.
The only information that I neeed will be should I cid unlock my device or not.
I think I'll be able to find this info also.
After all I'll prepare some guides for newbies for the ROMs that I used.
and add as new threads here and in my language for our forums.

You don't have to CID-unlock your device to flash (Prophet-)ROM's. Not the one's released here on xda-developers anyway.
grtz
Should not be a problem by now posting the same post three times!
Hundreds of people have managed to flash their device. Experienced as well as newbies. It's a little anoying to look at the latest posts and fined some multiple times. Yours is not more important then any other one!
If you realy want to do something with your device that's far from standard you also have to be willing to feed yourself with tons of info. Sure everybody would like a DIY document in their mailbox. But who will be held resonsable when you do something you don't even have a clue off?
Further if you think the WiKi is not clear enough to real newbies, then contribute to this forum and place your info in the WiKi so you can help others, like we all try to do here

How to flash a rom?

I have been reading tutorials here on how to upgrade to WM6, to my dismay even for noob tutorials they simply assume its totally common knowledge how to flash a rom to a device. How???
Read this post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613. It's a sticky at the top of this forum entitled "How to flash a new ROM to your wizard...". It has step by step instructions.
That is the post im reading. But it just says download button 1.05 and flash it to your device. I have my wizard in the 3 color screen mode, with usb connected to vista, and the button 1.05 on my hard drive. How do I flash it?
Well, since you are using vista, I'm not sure since I'm using xp. I've seen threads around here that explain how to do it in vista but I've never read any of them since I don't really need that information myself. Do a little searching for them and I'm sure you'll find a thread that explains how to do it. I'll do a little searching also and if I find one I'll post the thread link on here for you.
Maybe the wizard doesnt work on vista, I heard that since last week the wizard is not compatible with vista but not sure what that meant. I have it plugged in and the windows mobile device center is ignoring it.
How do you do it on XP? I mean do you just connect the device? How do you move the rom to the device?
In xp you just run the RUU and it does the work for you. I found a couple of threads that should help you -
1. http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=27
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313001&highlight=vista+flashing
Another good link will be Mr Vanx Upgrade Guides under my sig. I think he even has sections for users of Vista
Ok, here's a freebie.

In the future, take some time and read all of the stickies, the wiki, and upgrading threads.

Mike,
This is by no means a personal attack on you, but if you don't know how to execute a program, then you probably SHOULDN'T attempt to do any flashing to your device.
I don't want to discourage your efforts to learn more about computers, development or customizing your device, but I would recommend sticking with your current OS until you're able to figure out how to do much of this on your own.
This site is a great resource of knowledge and tools, but it is for more intermediate and advanced users. There IS an assumption here that you SHOULD know basic commands and such, but you don't seem to have a grasp of even the basics.
Again, I would recommend sticking with what you have for now. Reading more of the WIKI, the Wizard threads and you should also search the internet more generally for information on executables, and the like.
Just a bit of advice. We wouldn't want you to brick your phone.
Good luck on your journey!

Place for Newbs to get Started-Want Tilt to Look Like Touch

Any advice? I am new to this whole thing. Have done some overclocking and what not on my PC, but this is a whole different game.
What types of things can I do without risking really f'ing things up?
What I hope is the simplest things I was hoping to do was to make my TILT screen look like the HTC Touch.
I thought about downloading Dutty's tweaks, but I am thinking I might be out of my depth starting out.
I would like to learn some things, but don't want to annoy the veterans that are here. Any direction would be appreciated.
Thank you.
What you could do is read, all the post people have put to do exactly what your asking. All the info is there you just need to search and read or use the wiki.

Download and run HardSPL on your phone from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Then choose a dutty rom to install, since you are on a tilt try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345385&highlight=dutty+tilt
This is all you have to do to have a fully functional htc looking rom with the touchflo cube with the newest drivers and radio for AT&T. I am using this one on mine right now. This rom has everything that you will probably need already installed. Anything else will just be for personal preferences. This rom has an advanced config program which is great but also download kaisertweak for some nice settings.
Thanks for keeping it simple for the newb. I read a couple of things about the "radio" portion being an issue. What does the "radio" tweak mean and will a HARD RESET fix problems if I decide to revert back?

The radio that comes with this rom will be the one you need. A hard reset only reinstalls the rom you currently have on the phone so to revert back you will have to choose another rom and install it. As long as the rom you install is an AT&T one or one made for the tilt then you won't have to do anything with the radio. If you change and use an HTC ship rom or one of dutty's other roms then you will have to download another radio and install it. Radios self install the same way as roms do.
This is the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
On this page is the link to the ftp area where you could download the older radio if you decided to go to a non tilt rom.
Did you have any keyboard problems when doing the HARDSPL and installing the dutty rom. Also, which of the dutty roms did you install? Beta 2?
I am still on the Beta 1 and have been too lazy to changeover yet as Beta 1 is solid.
If you really want a good "How To" check out Mr. Van X:
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php...ask=view&id=65&Itemid=26&limit=1&limitstart=0
Every place he says "Hermes" you just think "Kaiser" or "Tilt". All the steps are the same. It is a great walk-through. He has you download the .net framework first. I know I didn't have it. Then he steps you through hardSPL and finally the ROM.
A few weeks ago I followed this exactly and have never had any troubles. Why a walk-through like this is not in the Wiki for the Kaiser/Tilt I have no idea. It'd be a lot more helpful to newbs (like myself) than the forum fav response, "Read Dammit".

I just used HardSPL and Dutty's Hybrid Rom No 5. I'm not sure what the difference is from his Tilt Beta version but I tried both and decided to go with the Hybrid. Point is, until last night I did not know what a Rom was. I read the forum and followed the directions. Here are links to what I used.
HardSPL (you need to do this first). Everything you need to know is in the first post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Then find a ROM. I downloaded several including the stock ATT rom just in case I decided to go back. The steps for loading a ROM are almost the same as HardSPL, just follow the directions on the screen.
This is a link to Dutty's Tilt Beta ROM (all you need is the link to the ROM at the bottom of the first post). If you want to try Dutty's Hybrid ROM, scroll to the 3rd post made by username "alltheway" and click on the red Hybrid No 5 Rom link in his signature block.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345385
It is very simple to do.
Do I need to SIM Unlock?
I have been reading through the posts, and I can't find if I must SIM lock my phone before trying to install Dutty's ROM. On my 8125 the general concensus was unlock both. I don't have any need to run other radio's on my phone, and I won't be traveling out of the US.
Also I am currently running SPB Pocket Plus 4.01. Should I do a hard reset before trying to CID unlock and load of new rom?

No you do not

How should I choose a ROM?

I've very new to all this, having used a non-PDA/smartphone (SE637) for many years before purchasing a Tilt. While quite PC-literate, I find myself very intimidated with all this. I read as much as my mind allows before requiring large quantities of diet-coke -- then I need a nap to calm myself down from the soda before reading any more, or my head explodes.
I think that I need a new ROM, but I'm not sure why! Everywhere I read, that's what I'm told.
This community is very knowledgable and seems very helpful. As this appears to be more for developers than users like me, I'm hesitant to ask my question for fear of offending a developer, which isn't my intent. I'm looking for information that might assist me in choosing which ROM to use.
I suppose that I want the phone to run faster, be easier to use/see (I don't see as well as I did 50 years ago... ), and have the latest of whatever is the best at the moment, spending as little as possible in the process. A truly never-ending story...
Before you start flashing decide what's important to you. Are you looking for a certian look & feel? Is fuctionality more important or do you want spped/stability?
Then research the different Roms, most include feature lists & screen shots in the first few posts of the thread.
So what it really comes down to is a lot of reading.
Oh and be sure to HardSPL your device BEFORE doing anything.
Also, like kyphur said read and do the hardSPL first but for me I found it's most helpful just to try some. Download a few, flash them give it a whirl and see what you like. Once you try a few you'll find options and programs you love and will start looking for roms that have what you need and more importantly what you don't like. And if you never find anything you love then start cooking. There are a lot of great wikis here to guide you step by step.
Hope this helps.
Start with Wiki first. Once you hardspl, load your first rom. You will find how easy it is and start to flash more roms like crazy. Experiment, and then you will find what you like. After flashing your first rom, you will realize how much better your new rom is compare to the stock rom.
just start off by choosing a few roms...then read about it as the chef would describe their rom...see which one fits u most...then make sure u read teh wiki and faq before u actually start ur flashing...to make sure nothing goes wrong...and then if that doesnt fit u..try another rom..but all the roms here...are better than stock for sure
I knew this wasn't going to be easy... Rating system anyone? I suppose I'm also nervous about doing a first flash. What about CID and SIM unlocking?

HardSPL removes the Carrier lock (CID) from your phone. As for SIM unlocking, I haven't bothered yet because I don't travel anywhere that AT&T doesn't provide service.
Once you've done your share of reading, if you are still confused about what type of ROM you are looking for, check out whatever the latest Dutty release is at that point in time. Dutty's Kaiser ROMs are probably the most popular on XDA.
I use a [somewhat] clean ROM myself, with the bare minimum preloaded. This way I can install what I need, and not worry about wasted space for programs I don't use.

however, for Christ sake, please have hardspl installed.

Is there a Tilt-specific version (currently with ATT's latest released ROM) of HardSPL that avoids all the headaches I'm reading about?
I'm still not sure how this works, but if I were to go Dutty's, should I look for UC - from what I'm gathering, I could then get a minimum ROM version, choose what I want added, then somehow update that bare ROM to include my choices, keeping all my settings in the process? A hard reset, if needed, would restore the new UC basic ROM along with what I added -- do I have this right?

The version of HardSPL required is determined by what version SPL that is on your phone. If you reboot your phone in bootloader mode, you will see a version number for SPL. As long as you follow the directions for that version, you will be fine.

You need JumpSPL to get started, and then you need HardSPL to flash. 2 zip files total. Memorize the steps prior to starting, and do NOT skip any of them for any reason...
man...I thought I gave you advice yesterday on what to do. Literally, thousands of people have hardspl their roms just fine. Even a couple blonde girls in this forum have done it. It is not that hard and you shouldn't have too much trouble. Just follow the instructions and you will be just fine. After your first flash, you will move couple levels up in knowledge.

Your information was very valuable. I just needed a little more detail to help calm my nerves...

New to windows mobile, would appreciate help.

Hi everyone, I have recently bought a htc touch pro from polish orange provider. I have browsed dozens of topic, trying to make my windows mobile 6.1 life more satisfying, but I have few questions to ask.
1. What does Hard-Spl do ? And can I hard-spl my phone ?
2. To install advanced config, do I have to jailbreak my windows, or do anything to install it ? I don't want to end up with useless phone
3. When I try to upgrade my default opera browser to the newest build, the instlaler cannot uninstall previous version of opera, neither can I because it is not listed in add/remove programs menu. And, if I ignore the warning, I get an error in installling the newest build, but somehow I have 2 opera mobiles listed in programs menu.

Thanks in advance, r4ster.

I probably can't answer your questions like a pro, but I had a few experience that I can share with you.
1. I don't know what Hard-SPL do, but I guess it's like jailbreak for Windows Mobile device. If you want to flash to a new custom Rom, you need to Hard-SPL it first (don't need to do this if you flash back to the original ROM). And yes, Hard-SPL your device
2. Jailbreak is only a term to unlock your iphone... With a Win Device, you don't need to unlock anything to be able to download and install other software. This is the beautiful part of a Window mobile.
3. Definitively can't help you here... but I know that plenty of thread has been posted for this matter... just do a quick search. However, I strongly suggest (with no responsibility) you to "Hard-SPL" and "CID unlock" your device and flash it to a new ROM. It will make your phone faster and much cleaner. Also, you'll get your new Opera install.
The question now is, which ROM
I suggest NATF's v2.3, but he'll be releasing a v3 today or so. Don't flash to it right away... just flash to v2.3 first and see if v3 is stable or not by reading people posts.
Flashing is not as hard as people claim... just read and be very carefully before you do it. Don't skip any step. The first time is stressful, but after that it's just a daily burger.

you have to hard-spl first before Flashing any Rom. Please read those sticky carefully. I do not take any responsibility of what you're doing.
This is what I did (it works for me without any problem)
0- I backup everything I need with PPCPimbackup and outlook
1- I HARD-SPL my device
2- I CID unlock my device
3- Flash to NATF's v2.3 ROM, hard-reset my device
4- Flash new Radio (this step is optional... and to find the best one, you have to test one by one.)
5- Restore my backup
6- Re-install extra software that I need.
Like I mention earlier, these steps work for me, and there are big chance that it will work for you as well... but I do not take any responsibility. Before you Flash to any ROM, HARD-SPL your device. and after flashing your ROM, HARD-RESET it.

Well, first I hope that it doesn't go wrong. And second, I'm pretty sure you can stand the temptation of flashing to a new ROM, so you'll probably going to do it very soon. But Third, So far I haven't seen any thread that someone can unbrick their Touch Pro after a bad flash (he/she didn't Hard-spl before flashing, that's why)... However, there is a way to do it with the Kaiser... so don't lose hope there.
Just READ everything carefully, you have a 99.5% successful rate if you do. I would say that the 0.5% is just your bad luck (example Computer stop working during the flash... but that's just pure bad luck and you can't blame anyone but God)
