Orange SPV M1500, what HTC Type - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 2005 Upgrading

Good day all - this is my first posting on this site and I am not overly technical, but..
I have an Orange SPVM1500, which I understand is a HTC and its model name is a PH10D (according to XDA-Wiki - this does not exist!).
Problems are:
1) Battery power - backup battery showing 100%, but when I remove the main battery to change SIM, everything dumped. How do I change the backup battery? (I removed 4 screws on the plate, but plate seems to be held elsewhere).
2) I would like to dump the Orange front end and release more memory for SKYPE, Tom Tom and using the phone without being dumped out of the call. This I believe requires a flash ROM update, but I do not know which to use (as highlighted above)
3) How do I get rid of the camera app. I tried re-assigning the annoying little button on the side to have no action, but this reverts every time the phone resets. Any ideas? I don't use the camera anyway.
Until I get these sorted, I'm having to use my Nokia 6630!
Regards all - Peter

Thanks for that. I figured it was an Alpine, but wasn't sure. Any idea about the other point? (Battery?)

Differences between O2 and imate units?

Hello, I have had an O2 XDA II for a year now. My company has just supplied me with the i-Mate equivalent (MDA III ???) , anyhow, I have noticed a couple of differences and would like to know what other there are...
the i-mate has th US version of the ROM installed, not the WWE .
It does not seem to have an extended rom,. or the extra 16M of 'storage' that the XDA II had, is this right??? I thought the two units were physically identical inside. Does this mean I will now have to install my programs into the normal Ram, I used ot put them into 'storage' to save my memory.
When the units are hard reset, they run an automatic program to set them up, I cancel this by pressing the reset button. I know the XDA II setup configures the unit with all of O2's software and icons etc. What does the imate version of the setup install?? I would like to know if there is anything useful in there.
THe setup program must be stored somewhere?? This I would asume to be the extended rom area as mentioned abvoe but I cannot seem to get the EXTrom tools to work any ideas??
Are there any other differences I should be aware of.
Thanks very much
Also, I have noticed that the Bluetooth icon is missing form the system tray, I used to use this quite a lot to turn the BT on and off, is there any way I can get it back??
Currently the only way to get to the BT is via settings, connections.

s100 freezes

Since a week my s100 freezes on the weirdest moments, like when i want to make a call, it freezes, when i want to open a message it freezes, when i'm in the menu, it freezes.
Now I tried three different upgrades, but the problem keeps coming back :?.. Is there a way to format the whole hard disk and reinstal everything (just like my pc  )
I called with Qtek Netherlands, but they told me this problem is not on the guarantee because i could have used the wrong upgrades.. And its not very cheap to let them make my mda so maybe someone could help me with this so I dont have to send the phone to Qtek for repair, and save a lot of money  :?:
ThnQ
I had the same trouble in my S110 after making bigstorage ROM. I tried different methods to cteate it, but it didn't help. My S110 frose for about 15-30 sec. in different cases, most reciently in different settings and menus. The only way I've found to solve this problem was to upgrade device with native qtek s110 rom.
Are you installing programs after updating the ROM? In that case, you most likely are running some bad software.
After a hard reset/ROM update, try running your device for a few days without installing new programs.
No, i don't install programs. But yesterday i discovered when i dont insert my sim-card, the s100 is working much better, but it still freezes al the time. Like when I insert my simcard it takes about 1 minute before it freezes, when i dont use my simcard, the s100 is faster, but it still freezes after about 5 minutes. But the freezing dont stop until I do a soft reset .. Is there a solution ?
Sounds to me like you have a hardware problem. Reinstall the original ROM and take it in for service.
My xda 2 mini
almost the same problem with my xda ii mini but i noticed a thing my phone works perfectly allright when on an external power supply but as soon as it runs on battery and the battery level drops to about 90 % it keeps on freezing...does this imply that there is a battery problem or something else?... :?
Well, I have the same problem, here's some helpful info if anyone can track this error:

Please help us solve this one!!
I don't think 16MB of free program memory is very much...
Whenever I am experiencing any inconsistancy with my PDA, Smartphone or whatever, a hard reset is always one of my first moves. That way I have a rather good chance of finding out, if I have a soft- or hardware problem.
As I said, hard reset and run it for a few days without installing any third party software, then you will know.
Guess I'll have to try that option then, but I was hoping for another solution that didnt include just running with the default programs
So you think that it might be too little memory free? What about if I apply the big storage "tweak" then (it looks like a pain in the arse to do it though) and then allocate more memory to Programs?

Well I took my mini to the local o2 repair center they at first told me a mere software upgrade will solve this thing so I was kind of delighted. But then they called me up and told me its a circuit problem and the circuit needs to be replaced and it will cost me 70%of the phones price. My phone was under warranty still I didnt want to mess around with the circuit thing so I took it to my dealer with a friend of mine created a scene and he had to change it for me.... now my new o2 doesnt have this problem at all....

I'm not getting why they first wanted to charge you, given it is under warranty??
Bastards!
I'll give Brightpoint a ring today and see what they have to say. And I agree, it should be under warranty.
Yes it was under warranty but my imei no was missing from there records and they were not ready to acknowledge my bill as I didnt buy it from an authorised o2 dealer....
@montana
Doing the big storage tweak won't give you more RAM to run your programs. Instead it gives you more space on /Storage to store your programs, which is an entirely different thing. RAM is what we want, and can't get enough of.
Only way to get more RAM is to make sure you install as many programs as possible on either the internal /Storage (yes, the 'Big Storage' thing) or on your /Storage Card, ie SD Card. If that isn't enough for you, try checking this forum for info on how to stop the Extended ROM from installing after a hard reset, and how to manually install only the parts of it you need.
@sankalp16
Great to hear! Well, as long as you have an official invoice, I don't think it matters where you got it from. Congratulations!
Just a quick Update:
I talked to BP and they finally decided to get me a new one, took a while and a lot of persuation though....
Anyways, a few days before I was supposed to change it, I think I uninstalled QOTD--Qoute of Today and it suddenly ran like a kitten again, Im not sure it was this app that caused it so I still got the new one

Ever tried to work without an sd-card inserted? I've read several times that bad sd-cards can cause freezes...

Problem: Polaris set back itself to delivery-state!

Yesterday, my Polaris with original HTC WM 6.1 set back itself to the delivery state. When I where at work, I wondered, because the battery was suddenly empty. I have charged it on Sunday.
After I have begun to recharge it for a short time, I switched it on. The Polaris told me to calibrate the touchscreen. After it, It started with the assistant for first steps of WM. I canceled it and then I where on the Home Screen. The HTC Home and the Plugin for G-Alarm where lost. When I tried to start a program I have installed some time before, it hadn’t worked. All programs I had installed for my self, seemed to be lost. When I tried to start them, there comes the failure like comes when I’ll install them (the program is from an unknown developer…; I don’t know the text in English exactly, because it is in German on my Polaris) All the SMS where lost and the Plugins on the Program Tab of the HTC Home and the Phone numbers in the Cube where also lost.
All seemed that the Polaris is in delivery state, but the installed programs where still in the list of programs in settings of WM.
The last way for me was to install the ROM now onto the phone. After I’ve installed it new today, WM 6.1 again, all worked very well and I’ve installed some programs like finger menu etc. new. After one restart while an installation, the problem comes again. The whole Phone seemed to be in delivery state. The only change is now, that the phone-program of the Polaris in WM doesn’t work anymore. When I click onto the telephone receiver- picture in WM, nothing happened. Earlier the screen comes, where I have to input my pin-number.
Have anybody an idea, why the mistake happened and what I can do to repair it? Is it a soft- or hardware mistake? I have no Idea what I could do to repair it. The last way I could do is to send it to the dealer where I’ve bought it, because I’m still in guarantee-time, or has anybody an idea, how I can repair the software without send it back for repair?
Regards from Germany,
Robert
Robert,
Get that phone right back to the SUpplier, as its clearly hardware issue. You have tried to re-flash with original 6.1 which was succesful.
btw just curious, did you try using the phone standard without adding new apps for a few days just to see if it was stable or not?
Might be a good idea to do this, just so u can be sure its not a software clash.
Thanks for your fast answer, timmymarsh!!
I've only tried the phone a few minutes without any apps. Then I installed only 4 or 5 small apps, which I've used before I had the first problems on monday over a long time.
This day I watched onto the invoice of the phone. I bought it last year at the end of April. So I will send it as fast as possible to the supplier, that I won't loose my garantee.
After your post I'm pretty sure, that it should be a hardware issue.
If I had a longer rest of the garantee time, I would try it without apps some days, but in this case I'll play safe...
have just had exactly the same problem only have been using the udk syrius r7 rom for last few months, turned phone off while in work and on turning back on losing all contacts etc. have tried reflashing with r8 beta & had same problem have now flashed 3lit3-VI rom and seems 2 b ok now.

the indications given looks like due to the battery was drained, so you will lose all applications been installed as well as data and information on the ram (sdcard will survive). in worst cases, your device will stay on bootloader mode, will not loading the rom, though hard reset when battery full can resolve the situation.
Unless you can find hardware related reason to draining your battery higher than normal, no i dont think it is hardware related.

WM6 (Boom) on G4 Crashing

Hi All,
I installed WM6 (with Boom logo) sorry was a long time ago, and cant remember the Official ROM title.
Been working great for ages, but over the past few days its been crashing (freezing, followed a few seconds later by screen fading out with various coloured vertical lines) and the only way to reboot is remove battery and start again.
There does not seem to be any pattern to when it crashes - sometimes minutes, but ran all weekend without a hiccup.
I have tried Axios CloseApps 1.40 to get rid of everything running that i dont need and this hasnt helped (crashed immediately the confirm screen came up once). Also run Reg Cleaner to see if that helps, cured a couple of issues but still crashing. Did have overclock at 240, but turned this back to 192 and still falls over.
No new programs installed recently... hadn't been sync'd in 80 days. Tried syncing aswell....nada
Anyone with any ideas??
Many thanks for any pointers
Nod
Just remembered - TNT Rom
Sorry - brain fade tonight!

Sounds suspiciously like a memory issue. It's possible you've somehow gotten your Extended ROM corrupted, but that's not very likely. The more likely issue is you're simply out of memory from loading too much on your phone, or (and still more likely) you don't clean out your phone periodically as you should.
D/L this and run it on your machine: ClearTemp. This will clear out temporary files, and remove dead links, etc. from your phone that are taking up space and helping nobody.
Hopefully you have DotFred's Task manager. Run it, go to notification manager, and delete all duplicate notifications. (See his feature list for explanation.)
Another suggestion: Use Advanced Configuration Tool to change the default locations of pictures, video, and documents to your SD card. If you're not using an SD card...get one.
If you already do these things, I apologize for preaching to the converted, but these seem like the most likely fixes.
Another slightly more painful solution would be to back up your PIM data and your personal files, and do a Hard Reset. This would strip away all your customizations, and remove all programs you've added, but it would also put your registry back in pristine condition, and scrub your memory of any buggy material.
Hi Myrddin,
Thanks for the advise...
I have used Clear Temp and looked at the TaskMgr, but did not know exactly what I could clear out or not... clearing duplicates and Scripts reduced the notifications down to 83 from 367!
Runs quicker if nothing else
I haven't a great deal of files on it, running a 2GB card which has TomTom on (program runs from card) with Euro and UK maps, and plenty of room for pictures etc which I save on the card anyway. Oxios states that i have 15ish MB free, so didn't think capacity was an issue. Have moved what little I had left over to the card.
Will try a Hard Reset as last resort, but noticed two things today - had a small piece of plastic under the SIM card (which is now removed) - may have been disturbing contacts with SIM.
This got me thinking... it seems more often that not when I put the Wizard into my Car Cradle (handsfree speaker/charger) it crashes. Could this be a battery/power connector issue? (no problems when I connect to PC via USB).
Many thanks
Noddy
PS Dont worry about preaching to the converted - even the converted need help occasionally!!

That sounds bad. Yes, I think it is possible you have a connector issue. I doubt you have a battery/power issue, otherwise. Do you have problems syncing the phone to a computer? If so, that would be the clincher for a connector problem. Otherwise, it may just be a less than stellar cradle connector.
Your SIM card debris issue doesn't sound related to this, but may have been related to your other problems (though I think this is unlikely).
Think it might be slowly dying :-(
Hi Myrddin
I think I have come to the same conclusion unfortunately.
Performed Hard Reset in the end which I thought may have fixed the problems, as no crashes for a few days, but then it happend again. DOH.
There are no problems when I connect via USB, and the Cradle is an official TomTom version and seems in pretty good shape. My wife's Wizard does not have this problem so I'm assuming it's my Phone and not the cradle unfortunately.
I think I am left with three courses of action
- flash an upgraded OS (6.5) to see if that improves stability (however the TNT build's I understand are pretty rock solid anyway)
- or take it apart and see if "anything wobbles" probably screen connector seems most appropriate as when placing in the car unit the only real way of pushing it in is by the front half of the top otherwise the SD card pops out or I hit the power button (my fingers aren't the smallest!)
- or purchase a new phone (I know I will probably get flamed for this, but the Glofiish X800 looks OK for circa £200)
Ho Hum. Thanks for all your help
Nod.

Unable to make phone calls

Hi,
My girlfriend recently bought an XDA Orbit 2 which has WM 6.5 install on it.
Everything else on the phone works perfectly and without issue but she is unable to make phone calls correctly;
The phone will be able to dial out and establish a connection but no sound can be heard by either party even though both phones say the connection is there.
This can be resolved by a hard reset, however this only last for about 10-20 minutes before we lose all sound once again.
Can anyone shed some light onto this for me?
One thing that always screws up phone calls is the radio on the phone it should be a 1.59.xx.xx to check it go to start => setting => system => Phone Information => Software Information. Will find it there also while you are there what 6.5 rom is she running on it as if its not a stable one it may be worth updating it...
Should the .xx.xx be anything in particular or just stay as .xx.xx?
anything in particular i use the stock one (with the default rom) which is .42.15 any should do the job though...
Ok the radio on it is 1.58.25.14 which im asuming is wrong. How do I change it?
This a custom flash thingy ma bob wont hard reset the phone when you flash it => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376119
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426203
Is the radio i am using and imo the best for signal/ battery life.
How to do it.
1.Download both
2. Put the nbh file in the same directory as the custom ruu
3. Put the phone into bootloader (Start + OK + Reset whole on bottom, hold the buttons until it show a red green white blue screen)
4. plug it in to computer (let the drivers fully install)
5. Start up the Polaris_Custom_ruu.exe
6. Follow the instructions, shouldnt take too long to go through and flash
7. it will reset and you will have a nice shiny new radio and hopefully no more call problems.
All i will say now is what an idiot for selling the phone in that state... (may actually be the reason it was sold lol)
Im going to sound ike a total idiot now but I have no idea what ruu is or nbh or where to put it or what a bootloader is.
Could you possibly put it in moron speech Chris?
LOL well honestly i thought that i had already done that....
Have a look at the files that you download and then it will be explained.
The RUU is the thing that will do the flashing to the device
The nbh files contains the information of you download the stuff and follow the instructions you will have the result that you want honestly i cant think of a simpler way of doing it
Ive also put 2 screenshots to try to help you (one has a different radio but you get the idea...)
Also give this a read but i feel it may confuse you more..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381600
Its a noobs guide to flashing and has all of the info that you need to have.
It does give one point that it has to have SPL-2.20.Olinex on the screen but i would guess this is there as you already have 6.5 on the phone.
Awesome, thanks chris I will get it done tonight after work and let you know how it goes, if it fails I have no doubt I will be back complaining about my lack of phone savvy.
Hey Chris, just to let you know that it worked perfectly, thank you for your help it was much appricated.
No worries glad that it worked as if it didnt then i would be out of ideas...
