Hi,
My girlfriend recently bought an XDA Orbit 2 which has WM 6.5 install on it.
Everything else on the phone works perfectly and without issue but she is unable to make phone calls correctly;
The phone will be able to dial out and establish a connection but no sound can be heard by either party even though both phones say the connection is there.
This can be resolved by a hard reset, however this only last for about 10-20 minutes before we lose all sound once again.
Can anyone shed some light onto this for me?
One thing that always screws up phone calls is the radio on the phone it should be a 1.59.xx.xx to check it go to start => setting => system => Phone Information => Software Information. Will find it there also while you are there what 6.5 rom is she running on it as if its not a stable one it may be worth updating it...
Should the .xx.xx be anything in particular or just stay as .xx.xx?
anything in particular i use the stock one (with the default rom) which is .42.15 any should do the job though...
Ok the radio on it is 1.58.25.14 which im asuming is wrong. How do I change it?
This a custom flash thingy ma bob wont hard reset the phone when you flash it => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376119
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426203
Is the radio i am using and imo the best for signal/ battery life.
How to do it.
1.Download both
2. Put the nbh file in the same directory as the custom ruu
3. Put the phone into bootloader (Start + OK + Reset whole on bottom, hold the buttons until it show a red green white blue screen)
4. plug it in to computer (let the drivers fully install)
5. Start up the Polaris_Custom_ruu.exe
6. Follow the instructions, shouldnt take too long to go through and flash
7. it will reset and you will have a nice shiny new radio and hopefully no more call problems.
All i will say now is what an idiot for selling the phone in that state... (may actually be the reason it was sold lol)
Im going to sound ike a total idiot now but I have no idea what ruu is or nbh or where to put it or what a bootloader is.
Could you possibly put it in moron speech Chris?
LOL well honestly i thought that i had already done that....
Have a look at the files that you download and then it will be explained.
The RUU is the thing that will do the flashing to the device
The nbh files contains the information of you download the stuff and follow the instructions you will have the result that you want honestly i cant think of a simpler way of doing it
Ive also put 2 screenshots to try to help you (one has a different radio but you get the idea...)
Also give this a read but i feel it may confuse you more..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381600
Its a noobs guide to flashing and has all of the info that you need to have.
It does give one point that it has to have SPL-2.20.Olinex on the screen but i would guess this is there as you already have 6.5 on the phone.
Awesome, thanks chris I will get it done tonight after work and let you know how it goes, if it fails I have no doubt I will be back complaining about my lack of phone savvy.
Hey Chris, just to let you know that it worked perfectly, thank you for your help it was much appricated.
No worries glad that it worked as if it didnt then i would be out of ideas...

can someone please help me figure out what the deal is with my phone, it's been working great minus the fact it wont work with activesycn anymore, but today i was at my friends using wifi and surfing the net and using Remote Desktop and it locked up, i rebooted it with the reset button and it sits at the Windows Mobile splash screen, for 45+mins, i havent waiting longer than that, i noticed if i pull the battery, sim, SD out and let it sit, put it all back together, press all the buttons, turn it back on and press buttons while is coming on, itll come on, dont know why i have to press stuff lol but its working, and its done this twice, if my activesync worked i'd re-flash it but this rom hasnt been too bad for me, it's one of the earlier Faria releases of wm6. anyone know what would cause it to freeze up during boot and work Sometimes? or a way to make it boot up for sure w/o doing a hard reset.
i noticed it will boot up if i press some buttons during the first/second splash screen, the HTC one and the one with the version numbers, if the keyboard lights up i know its gunna boot successfully. this is crazy. and annoying.
You might try flashing with Shelltool. I'e never done that but it seems to work.
Have you tried to do a hard reset on it? No flash is required. Also for ActiveSync, go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC and uncheck (or check) the box there and see if ActiveSync starts working for you.
And you can always flash directly to the bootloader (no activesync required) if thats what you want to do. Just turn off the phone, then hold the camera button and turn the phone back on. As long as you see USB above the left softkey you are good to go for flashing a different rom onto your phone. I would strongly suggest if you do this to flash back to an official ROM first (T-Mobile 2.26 is a good one to use) and then flash a custom rom of your choice.
No idea why this would have started, but my guess is something you have recently added has a conflict on your phone. You might want to go to remove programs and remove the last couple of things. Then grab a trial copy of MemMaid and run that to clean up bad registry entries and such. See if the problem goes away.
Good luck!
Ah.. See, I want to flash really bad and try something with the new HTC Touch on it, there are so many roms lol, i don't even know where i saved the file for the one im using now.. but the only problem is, i cannot get the damn thing to sync with activesync, i've tried reinstalling it and unchecking the other box on the phone, no go. i'm sure there is no other way to back everything up is there? :-( i'll try memmaid too just incase that can fix the registry. any specific rom you recommend with HTC Touch ? i text A LOT with my phone so i'm mainly only worried about texting and taking pictures, but i've got the UK rom to install, i heard that is better than my current one.

I don't care for the Touch stuff (I assume you are talking the Cube), so I really can't comment on that. You'll have to try that yourself.
Use PIM Backup to backup your SMS, MMS, Calendar, contacts and more to your SD card. You could install it by downloading it directly to your phone (its just a zip file with the exe that you run).
As I said, you can upgrade without activesync. Just go to the bootloader as I described.
Hello First all I am a new owner but I have tried looking for answers elsewhere with out much success. If I can be pointed else please let me know and I will look further.
If not I beg indulgence,
I have tried several times to do the clearing of the ATT stuff on my phone by using HARDSPL but I am not sure if it done? I do not notice any change at this point.
Here is what I have done
I installed the active sync on my computer and then plugged my phone into the USB connection cables to my system and achieved connection at least according to my computer.
I then browse to the HARDSPL (RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe) and execute it. It says that it takes about 10 minutes
It goes through the standard checks which I agree to and then it verifies for itself.
The first time it seemed to go good but the whole thing took less than 15 seconds and it said installation 100% and I had to exit
But when the phone was turned on there was no visible change
So I thought it actually failed
Subsequent attempts have followed this scenario
I achieve active sync with my PC and am connected to it
I browse to the HARDSPL mentioned above and execute it
Then the screen on my FUZE goes blank and after a little while I get an unrecognized device connection from Windows
After a few more minutes I get a message from the HARDSPL install that the connection was lost and I have no choice but to exit
The phone usually will not turn back on until I remove and put back the battery then the phone turns on normally with no visual change noticable.
So I still do not think that it succeeded
So I tried this
I have a 4G SD card and I created a folder called HARDSPL and put the files opened when I execute the self extracting file above into this folder
I browse to it and excute the file from the phone itself.
Again the screen goes blank after a few seconds and I waited at least 30 minutes now this time the only thing that is different is that the phone seemed to get real warm. Then it cooled back down
After I turned the phone on again it seemed no different.
I was expecting all of my content to disappear(contacts songs) but they are still there when I look at the ROM it says this
ROM version 1.95.502.5 WWE
ROM date 10/20/08
Radio Version 1.02.25.32
PROTOCOL 52.39c.25.22H
Now after thinking about this maybe the HARD SPL is only the first step
Maybe the HARDSPL worked and I need to now LOAD a new ROM and then my phone will be clean
The part that confuses me is the process never quite worked as I was expecting it to so I am unclear if it succeeded or failed
Is there a way to see if the HARDSPL actually succeeded or not and if it did not HOW can do it successfully
I am trying to do things exactly as others have done because I do not want a BRICKED phone so I am a bit confused at this point as to what to do next
I would GREATLY appreciate any and all help with this
Boot to tri-color. It will tell you the SPL version. HardSPL will have OliNex signature. Check noob section in Wiki for how to boot to tri-color.
Thank you I powered down and held the volume down while turning the phone on and I came up with the following:
RAPH110
SPL-190.OliNex
MicroP-Raph (LED) v13
MicroP-Raph (KEY) v5
PSOC-RAPH STAGE_CUT v0x36
so I assume that HARDSPL worked and now I can go about loading a new ROM
I was thinking about RRE 5.8 21042 with Manilla. Is this a good choice to begin with or would anyone suggest anything else
There aren't any good answers for ROMs. Maybe you might want to try cooking one for yourself. Ervius' PkgToolsBuildOs kitchen makes it simple now. Locate Da_G's simple ROM kitchen thread for a place to start.
I would suggest Da G's 6.5 ROM. If you want TF3D then use the kitchen for the 6.5 ROM
thanks for help guys
Which process in my original post, in anyones opinion, was the one that actually worked to get HARDSPL on my phone
The first thing you did was good enough for the HardSPL.
Good Luck and Have fun with the ROMs

It only takes about 30 seconds to flash hard spl (10 min is how long a full ROM takes, the utility doesn't know what you're flashing, it says that every time); you did it correctly, so it's time to move on. Flash a bunch of different roms. Do 10 a day. Knock yourself out and have fun.

Still experimental though. Long list of bugs still but vc taste of the new OS.

Just getting started I would either go with RRE or RomeOS. Both are good stable roms. Keep in mind though that ALL roms on here are somewhat experimental and are prone to bugs and other issues.
You may want to also read this thread as well as both links in my signiture. When you do flash a new rom please read the thread for that rom in its entirety (I know they are long) so that you know what issues are already discussed or solved and do not ask about something that has already been handled.
Thanks again all
a few questions but first a ROM listing I have in place now:
LocateCaller2r2.cab
netcallerid.cab
both these are really cool one lets you get city and state info before you answer
the other give pretty detailed info after including believe it or not relatives of the caller I tried from my parents phone to my cell and all of my brothers and my sister and even my ex wife showed up in a text message after the call was finished. WOH!
nitrogen-0.2.1-wm6-vga.cab
rre
touch pro
touchresponse
voice speed
have had the chance to try all of these out yet but so far so good now to the questions it seems that my zoom capability (moving around the large central button while a web page is being shown)is missing now. I understand that when I took off the AT&T stuff i would need to reload things. So I am not disappointed
but if some one knows what ROM I could load to get that back it would be great the version of RRE I loaded came with Manilla
So question 2 If I needed to say get rid of a certain MOD say the nitrogen MOD listed above how is that done Do I start over with the base MODS again and thenn simply not load it this time around or is there a simple way to unload a particular ROM.
Why is the 50% battery requirement in place is that just a safeguard against the phone going dead within 10 minutes.
What exactly does the HARDSPL do I found all kinds of stuff on why to use it and threads on how to do it and what to do after you do it and I know you can put the original ROMS back on the phone for warranty issues but how does it work?
Please forgive the NOOB questions hopefully I will graduate soon
Well, I finally did it yet still not rooted and stuch at rogers screen have read alln the threads anbd oddly some fastboot cmds work other sdo not very new to all of this and righly nervous now. have the rogers magic which is htc branded yet aftewr reformatting sd card like many times before it says no image file. how exactly maybe dumb question do i get the images to my sd card so they work. any help greatly appreciated and trying to flash the daldroid image for want an htc rom. thx, kevin
the simpler the method the better for right now everything on the phone is completely gone and i have no os.
A bit difficult to understand you.
It seems to me that you're panicking at this point. Unfortunately, that makes it very hard to follow what you're talking about. I just picked up my magic today, I've been experiencing some problems as well. I'd be happy to work with you to find answers to your problems, as well as my own.
I'll be putting a new rom on my phone as soon as I have figured out how to do it properly. In the meantime, calm down and try hard resetting your phone to see if that helps.
What does your phone do when you turn it on? HTC magic screen, then a freeze? If you get that far, try removing your battery, putting it back in, pressing and holding back and home buttons together, and pressing power (end call) button for a moment to turn it on. Remember to hold the home and back buttons until the recovery screen comes up.
It'll ask you if you want to clear memory, you select yes (action), let it finish (only a moment or two), and then restart your phone.
I hope that helps.

[edit] go here and follow these steps in every detail. You need to do this to correctly modify your android device.
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
This means you'll need to download the sdk and a bunch of other things. There are a lot of steps involved in modifying your phone (ie: using custom roms and such) but it's all documented pretty well in many different posts. Don't let it overwhelm you, just do it one step at a time. From what I gather, doing these sorts of things is much easier on a winmo phone, so if you're just looking for an easy method, unfortunately, there is no quick method. But, again, it's all documented in a step by step manner, so take it a step at a time. Another thing to remember is, you're doing these things for your first (or second) time, so it will only get easier in time.
Good luck.

Thanks truly and your right however I have read all of this documentation and others many times but to no avail. Specifically, the main issue I am having is I have literally transferred all of the appropriate files to my device prob 50 plus times, no lie, and every time I get no image file. If I knew how to do this correctly everything should work fine. Yes, I tried your temp fix and am stuck at the roger's screen after boot up with bright red fastboot usb on the top left of the screen. Thanks and hope this helps to help me. Kevin

No, but thanks for trying to help. How exactly is my direct question do you properly place as they said in droid speak the system and image file at the root of your sd card? I know maybe a dumb question yet this is how close I am to flashing correctly and there are no other files on my m.s.d., have reformatted several times, and transferred these 2 files correctly I had thought yet it always says no image file when I press the volume down button??? How can they not be at the root of my storage card when there is nothing else on there? I am very frustrated and right now have a $625.00 htc-rogers magic brick and to me this should be the easiest part. Thanks, Kevin
I don't understand why you are trying to put them on your sd card? You can restore from fastboot if your can a) boot into fastboot and b) have the proper engineering spl installed. Then, it's a matter of going to the command line and
fastboot flash
ing your system and data.
Unless you can't get into fastboot?

Yes, I quess I understand now yet if you read through most of the stuff here it says as mentioned before to place these files/images on your sd card so the directions are not clear to some of us. Anyhow, I greatly appreciate your help and I do have fastboot and adb working properly and thought I had finally successfully flashed my device 30 min ago, yes for the first time and I was in shock I saw the screen in fastboot with all of the options, yet at the last step it failed so I am trying again. i.e. restore complete I think yet when I slected the option to reboot system it was still stuck on the roger's start screen. Any ideas? Kevin
I've come to the conclusion that flashing the magic is a very sketchy process. And I mean sketchy at best. It seems there's a really high failure rate.
there are many guides on how to do it, but it seems the people who wrote them, forgot to add some steps to the whole thing, and these are the kind of steps which make any newcomers more liable to incorectly flash their phones.
Where's the Magic wiki? I'd be happy to help add to it in any way I can, but it seems that this forum is in definite need of tutorials which can hold the hands of newcomers. Something that's written to be understood without a shadow of a doubt.
I will be getting my magic replacement tomorrow, if there're any long time players here who've got the whole root\flash\update process down pat, I'd love to chat with you on msn, to do these processes step by step, and I'll gladly write it all down in very great detail.
I'd like to help others avoid the same confusion so many users (including myself) are experiencing.
PM me if you're interested.

Hello this is my first post I'm writing because I'm having trouble putting Hard SPL
on my ATT Fuze. I have XP and I connect the phone to the computer and sync it
then open the SPL program go through the prompts then my screen on the phone turns off, the phone I believe also turns off and I get the error 260 a screen pops up on the computer saying it found new hardware. Any help with what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.Im kind of freaked every time I get up the nerve to do it and think I bricked my phone.
Did you install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 first?
Here is the link to follow steps incase you didnt see it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
Hey thanks for your help after further reading I know I should have posted this in the right section and yes I have framework 3.5 installed I guess one question would be that I installed 3.5 to the computer do I install it to the phone? Also I have been reading the hardspl post I think one of the ideas is to first install the SSPL manual
to the phone is that correct? Then do the hard spl? If this is corect what do they mean by install it? run it? active sync? sorry just want to get this right
This is from memory - so if i miss something, sorry!
You shouldn't get any error messages when you connect your phone to the pc, regardless of what boot state the phone is in.
The manual jump SPL is to be used if your phone doesnt enter the correct state automatically from the RRU.
If you want to use the manual jump SPL, do this:
1) Connect your phone to the PC (ensure it can sync correctly - no connection errors)
2) Copy the SSPL_manual to the phone
3) (on the phone) run the SSPL_manual file
3b) Phone should now go to a blank black screen
4) Run the RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe on the PC
4b) Follow the PC on-screen instructions
**However**
you say that the phone turns black / screen off when you run the exe normally - this is supposed to happen. You shouldnt get an error here. (this screen off part is what the manual SSPL is going to do anyway).
**
If you still get problems, ensure you are connected to the computers USB port - not via a USB hub, take the SD card & sim out the phone. Maybe try a different PC, different USB lead - always make sure you are following the instructions very carefully - and if you still have problems, let us know & we'll try harder! - remember to tell us everything, if you try 2 leads - tell us! If you get something different, tell us what! You can never give too much technical info when asking for technical help - and the more you have tried, the more interested others become (we all like figuring out a problem!)
Beeble
Thank you so much for your help just to give you an update either way I do it
Manual SSPL or just run the Hard SPL by itself the screen goes black and I know
thats what it is supposed to do. Just to clarify at first I did not know the screen was supposed to go black so thanks for that. Again either way it disconnects and a screen comes up saying it found new hardware from that point at first I was scared to do anything else but but eventually I just clicked YES install the hardware hoping that after I did that it would not disconnect but even saying yes to the Found new harware it would say it could not install any hardware and I'm stuck
from there still getting the error
Again I cannot say enough how helpful people have been even if I have not been able to get hard spl on the phone yet
Hi, today i tried to install this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620&highlight=android+2.3). I stuck to this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvS4EvS0PAw), but now i have a problem: i came to the step where i must run the ''ROMUpdateUtility.exe''. I followed the steps and when there should be an install of the new ROM file it's gone from 0% to 100% in like 3 seconds (that was wierd because it should take 10 minutes) , but when it rebooted it simply stop by the white screen with the green HTC logo...i cant even factory reset it. Please help me, what should i do to repair my phone
Have you tried the hard reboot? If so try restarting the device by holding down the down volume and the power button. I had this same issue and after many tries and re-installs the device stared to function again.
i have foxed it all...and installed the android, it works perfect. If there wasnt a problem with the Wi-Fi...can somebody help me with it
And where the hell is the ''Folders'' app so i can install applications onto android!?
suggestions
I admit I am a novice and I attempted to do things I shouldn't have done without research, but I read and read as everyone suggests in this forum. I watched video after video to make sure that I was doing things right. I still bricked my phone, as many people do, but I think I was mislead. I FULLY accept my responsibility for what I did. I would just like to elucidate some shortcomings of this forum without any malice.
You guys have a lot of power! You are very knowledgeable, and we as novice developers, who wish to do fun stuff with our phones, rely so much on your expertise.
I was able to successfully flash Android onto my SD card. It was awesome. I was loving it. But I kept reading that NAND would be much better because it would boot straight to Android without having to enter Window's Mobile first. I read that battery power would last much longer too. So I found out the way to flash HSPL3, MAGLDR, and NAND. It was working fine. But I liked the earlier format of the previous ROM running off of the SD card. So I figured out how to switch to another ROM.
It was on this forum" HTC Leo: > HD2 Android > HD2 Android NAND Development>" that I read in step 2 to "You should flash stock official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM." I did, and ended up bricking my HD2. A post-bricking search of what happened revealed that it was apparently my fault that I had previously flashed my Radio to something that led to the system failure. I read somewhere else that if my 3G wasn't working to flash the radio. So I did.
What I am upset about is, that there was no mention made nor warning given in the above forum to ensure I hadn't already flashed my radio to something I shouldn't have. Nowhere on the page is there any information warning of ill effects by flashing to earlier ROM if the Radio was flashed too. I did exactly as I was instructed and flashed to stock Windows Mobile. So I have a heavy mirror as a result. I will try and go back to T-mobile and get something under warranty. They actually told me to come here to learn how to get Android on my HD2.
So my bottom line is just what Uncle Ben (Spiderman) told Peter, "With great power comes great responsibility." If you allow your developers to post phrases like "You should flash stock official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM" you should also be sure there are no ramifications for performing such an action.
That's all. I'm still happy with the forum, it enables us lay folk to do some awesome stuff with our hardware. Please try and be more comprehensive when it comes to potential adverse effects. Have another person or committee edit the process and make sure that nothing is left out. I guess that is why it is in the forum format, but as a novice, you don't allow any comments regarding installation so I couldn't post there. Maybe someone else can save another phone if they come across my situation. Possibly add a new policy to have the administrator run through a checklist of things that could go wrong with each step before publication?
Hopefully with your power, you will get thanks and admiration for disasters averted. Keep up the good work!
Thanks,
