[Q] Android NAND ROM need help - General Questions and Answers

Hi, today i tried to install this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620&highlight=android+2.3). I stuck to this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvS4EvS0PAw), but now i have a problem: i came to the step where i must run the ''ROMUpdateUtility.exe''. I followed the steps and when there should be an install of the new ROM file it's gone from 0% to 100% in like 3 seconds (that was wierd because it should take 10 minutes) , but when it rebooted it simply stop by the white screen with the green HTC logo...i cant even factory reset it. Please help me, what should i do to repair my phone

Have you tried the hard reboot? If so try restarting the device by holding down the down volume and the power button. I had this same issue and after many tries and re-installs the device stared to function again.

i have foxed it all...and installed the android, it works perfect. If there wasnt a problem with the Wi-Fi...can somebody help me with it
And where the hell is the ''Folders'' app so i can install applications onto android!?

suggestions
I admit I am a novice and I attempted to do things I shouldn't have done without research, but I read and read as everyone suggests in this forum. I watched video after video to make sure that I was doing things right. I still bricked my phone, as many people do, but I think I was mislead. I FULLY accept my responsibility for what I did. I would just like to elucidate some shortcomings of this forum without any malice.
You guys have a lot of power! You are very knowledgeable, and we as novice developers, who wish to do fun stuff with our phones, rely so much on your expertise.
I was able to successfully flash Android onto my SD card. It was awesome. I was loving it. But I kept reading that NAND would be much better because it would boot straight to Android without having to enter Window's Mobile first. I read that battery power would last much longer too. So I found out the way to flash HSPL3, MAGLDR, and NAND. It was working fine. But I liked the earlier format of the previous ROM running off of the SD card. So I figured out how to switch to another ROM.
It was on this forum" HTC Leo: > HD2 Android > HD2 Android NAND Development>" that I read in step 2 to "You should flash stock official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM." I did, and ended up bricking my HD2. A post-bricking search of what happened revealed that it was apparently my fault that I had previously flashed my Radio to something that led to the system failure. I read somewhere else that if my 3G wasn't working to flash the radio. So I did.
What I am upset about is, that there was no mention made nor warning given in the above forum to ensure I hadn't already flashed my radio to something I shouldn't have. Nowhere on the page is there any information warning of ill effects by flashing to earlier ROM if the Radio was flashed too. I did exactly as I was instructed and flashed to stock Windows Mobile. So I have a heavy mirror as a result. I will try and go back to T-mobile and get something under warranty. They actually told me to come here to learn how to get Android on my HD2.
So my bottom line is just what Uncle Ben (Spiderman) told Peter, "With great power comes great responsibility." If you allow your developers to post phrases like "You should flash stock official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM" you should also be sure there are no ramifications for performing such an action.
That's all. I'm still happy with the forum, it enables us lay folk to do some awesome stuff with our hardware. Please try and be more comprehensive when it comes to potential adverse effects. Have another person or committee edit the process and make sure that nothing is left out. I guess that is why it is in the forum format, but as a novice, you don't allow any comments regarding installation so I couldn't post there. Maybe someone else can save another phone if they come across my situation. Possibly add a new policy to have the administrator run through a checklist of things that could go wrong with each step before publication?
Hopefully with your power, you will get thanks and admiration for disasters averted. Keep up the good work!
Thanks,

bricked roger's magic, desp for help.

Well, I finally did it yet still not rooted and stuch at rogers screen have read alln the threads anbd oddly some fastboot cmds work other sdo not very new to all of this and righly nervous now. have the rogers magic which is htc branded yet aftewr reformatting sd card like many times before it says no image file. how exactly maybe dumb question do i get the images to my sd card so they work. any help greatly appreciated and trying to flash the daldroid image for want an htc rom. thx, kevin
the simpler the method the better for right now everything on the phone is completely gone and i have no os.
A bit difficult to understand you.
It seems to me that you're panicking at this point. Unfortunately, that makes it very hard to follow what you're talking about. I just picked up my magic today, I've been experiencing some problems as well. I'd be happy to work with you to find answers to your problems, as well as my own.
I'll be putting a new rom on my phone as soon as I have figured out how to do it properly. In the meantime, calm down and try hard resetting your phone to see if that helps.
What does your phone do when you turn it on? HTC magic screen, then a freeze? If you get that far, try removing your battery, putting it back in, pressing and holding back and home buttons together, and pressing power (end call) button for a moment to turn it on. Remember to hold the home and back buttons until the recovery screen comes up.
It'll ask you if you want to clear memory, you select yes (action), let it finish (only a moment or two), and then restart your phone.
I hope that helps.

[edit] go here and follow these steps in every detail. You need to do this to correctly modify your android device.
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
This means you'll need to download the sdk and a bunch of other things. There are a lot of steps involved in modifying your phone (ie: using custom roms and such) but it's all documented pretty well in many different posts. Don't let it overwhelm you, just do it one step at a time. From what I gather, doing these sorts of things is much easier on a winmo phone, so if you're just looking for an easy method, unfortunately, there is no quick method. But, again, it's all documented in a step by step manner, so take it a step at a time. Another thing to remember is, you're doing these things for your first (or second) time, so it will only get easier in time.
Good luck.

Thanks truly and your right however I have read all of this documentation and others many times but to no avail. Specifically, the main issue I am having is I have literally transferred all of the appropriate files to my device prob 50 plus times, no lie, and every time I get no image file. If I knew how to do this correctly everything should work fine. Yes, I tried your temp fix and am stuck at the roger's screen after boot up with bright red fastboot usb on the top left of the screen. Thanks and hope this helps to help me. Kevin

No, but thanks for trying to help. How exactly is my direct question do you properly place as they said in droid speak the system and image file at the root of your sd card? I know maybe a dumb question yet this is how close I am to flashing correctly and there are no other files on my m.s.d., have reformatted several times, and transferred these 2 files correctly I had thought yet it always says no image file when I press the volume down button??? How can they not be at the root of my storage card when there is nothing else on there? I am very frustrated and right now have a $625.00 htc-rogers magic brick and to me this should be the easiest part. Thanks, Kevin
I don't understand why you are trying to put them on your sd card? You can restore from fastboot if your can a) boot into fastboot and b) have the proper engineering spl installed. Then, it's a matter of going to the command line and
fastboot flash
ing your system and data.
Unless you can't get into fastboot?

Yes, I quess I understand now yet if you read through most of the stuff here it says as mentioned before to place these files/images on your sd card so the directions are not clear to some of us. Anyhow, I greatly appreciate your help and I do have fastboot and adb working properly and thought I had finally successfully flashed my device 30 min ago, yes for the first time and I was in shock I saw the screen in fastboot with all of the options, yet at the last step it failed so I am trying again. i.e. restore complete I think yet when I slected the option to reboot system it was still stuck on the roger's start screen. Any ideas? Kevin
I've come to the conclusion that flashing the magic is a very sketchy process. And I mean sketchy at best. It seems there's a really high failure rate.
there are many guides on how to do it, but it seems the people who wrote them, forgot to add some steps to the whole thing, and these are the kind of steps which make any newcomers more liable to incorectly flash their phones.
Where's the Magic wiki? I'd be happy to help add to it in any way I can, but it seems that this forum is in definite need of tutorials which can hold the hands of newcomers. Something that's written to be understood without a shadow of a doubt.
I will be getting my magic replacement tomorrow, if there're any long time players here who've got the whole root\flash\update process down pat, I'd love to chat with you on msn, to do these processes step by step, and I'll gladly write it all down in very great detail.
I'd like to help others avoid the same confusion so many users (including myself) are experiencing.
PM me if you're interested.

Unable to make phone calls

Hi,
My girlfriend recently bought an XDA Orbit 2 which has WM 6.5 install on it.
Everything else on the phone works perfectly and without issue but she is unable to make phone calls correctly;
The phone will be able to dial out and establish a connection but no sound can be heard by either party even though both phones say the connection is there.
This can be resolved by a hard reset, however this only last for about 10-20 minutes before we lose all sound once again.
Can anyone shed some light onto this for me?
One thing that always screws up phone calls is the radio on the phone it should be a 1.59.xx.xx to check it go to start => setting => system => Phone Information => Software Information. Will find it there also while you are there what 6.5 rom is she running on it as if its not a stable one it may be worth updating it...
Should the .xx.xx be anything in particular or just stay as .xx.xx?
anything in particular i use the stock one (with the default rom) which is .42.15 any should do the job though...
Ok the radio on it is 1.58.25.14 which im asuming is wrong. How do I change it?
This a custom flash thingy ma bob wont hard reset the phone when you flash it => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376119
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426203
Is the radio i am using and imo the best for signal/ battery life.
How to do it.
1.Download both
2. Put the nbh file in the same directory as the custom ruu
3. Put the phone into bootloader (Start + OK + Reset whole on bottom, hold the buttons until it show a red green white blue screen)
4. plug it in to computer (let the drivers fully install)
5. Start up the Polaris_Custom_ruu.exe
6. Follow the instructions, shouldnt take too long to go through and flash
7. it will reset and you will have a nice shiny new radio and hopefully no more call problems.
All i will say now is what an idiot for selling the phone in that state... (may actually be the reason it was sold lol)
Im going to sound ike a total idiot now but I have no idea what ruu is or nbh or where to put it or what a bootloader is.
Could you possibly put it in moron speech Chris?
LOL well honestly i thought that i had already done that....
Have a look at the files that you download and then it will be explained.
The RUU is the thing that will do the flashing to the device
The nbh files contains the information of you download the stuff and follow the instructions you will have the result that you want honestly i cant think of a simpler way of doing it
Ive also put 2 screenshots to try to help you (one has a different radio but you get the idea...)
Also give this a read but i feel it may confuse you more..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381600
Its a noobs guide to flashing and has all of the info that you need to have.
It does give one point that it has to have SPL-2.20.Olinex on the screen but i would guess this is there as you already have 6.5 on the phone.
Awesome, thanks chris I will get it done tonight after work and let you know how it goes, if it fails I have no doubt I will be back complaining about my lack of phone savvy.
Hey Chris, just to let you know that it worked perfectly, thank you for your help it was much appricated.
No worries glad that it worked as if it didnt then i would be out of ideas...

[Q] Lg Optimus 2x p990 baseband and driver issues.

Hi guys. Love this site but I am encountering some issues! I am having problems with the drivers (it appears), of my p990h. I am new to android (only had my device a week), and have duly thrown myself in the deep end to try and make the most from the device and have encountered some issues. I am in Colombia and bought the phone here. I ‘rooted’ the device using the ‘Super One Click’ method and had no issues. I then performed the fatory reset and installed the ‘Cm9.0.0-rco-p990-unofficial’ rom (build [email protected]). I didn’t experience issues up to this point. However (and i know i messed up here), i then flashed baseband version 1035.21_20110725 using smartflash. Big mistake as then the time on the phone changed all to European time, and now although the device can be read by my computer, it cannot connect to it and a yellow exclamation appears on the device in device manager. I have tried everyway to update this, but no joy. Tried reflashing with smartflash, but now nothing happens when the phone is connected (nothing appears in the ‘coms port’ box). If i use the lg tool, it doesn’t even list my p990 as a device whose drivers i can download.
So basically I would like to know if anyone can help me:
a) get the drivers working properly again so I can connect the device and update.
And
b) if anyone can get me the 1035.21_20110602 baseband files to go back to how it was previously. Have looked everywhere but no luck. I downloaded one, but i cant seem to find a way to use use it (it appears as a clockworkmod folder and macosx folder. I haven’t used them as i couldn’t figure out how!
May i need to re-root my device, could this be the issue? This had occurred to me that the superuser settings may have something to do with this.
I also want to be able to restore my phone to its stock settings as i really need my camera back up and going properly whilst here in Colombia.
I have spent the last week trawling these forums reading everyone’s posts and learning from you guys, so a big thanks out there to you all who have got me this far – many thanks. Seems like a great community and im looking forward to getting more involved, and learning about the murky waters of android (even though im having some difficulties i love it!) . I apologise for any poor wording and general noobiness that may cause any misunderstanding! I will try and answer any questions/replies i may get as accurately as possible.
I really hope someone can help me as I cant keep going in circles – i have a 12 hour bus ride tomorrow so gotta get it done.
Many thanks in you lovely people!
try flash a new rom CM7

[Q] Galaxy Ace (S5830i) headache with stock email deletion

HI guys, I'm hoping you can help me with a problem that's led me to start threatening my galaxy ace (S5830i) with a hammer.
Actually it's not the phone's fault it's purely my own stupidity, but none-the-less I'm here for help because I've spent all day and night trawling the net, trying to figure out how to proceed to resolve my issue on my own but I simply cannot make sense of the conflicting information I'm finding.
I promise you thing thing if nothing else, I have tried my very best to read around a hundred other forums, pages, and how 'to's but I'm finding that I have no resolution that I can work with because either:
- The tutorials turned out to be for the S5830 - not the i model - when I got to the forum
- The youtube videos all seem to be spoken in accents I cannot understand or not explained clearly, or are too technical
- Links I go to to get apk files etc are broken, wrong or leading me up another path I cannot follow
- Software does NOT look on my screen as it does on tutorials or websites (SDK for example)
- The people explaining the resolution type with such poor English I cannot understand what they're actually saying
- The solutions that work for others are too technical or advanced for me to understand and I'm finding it difficult to learn as I go (apart frm the root instructions which I found quite easy)
Anyway, I'll start at the beginning:
I have a samsung galaxy ace (S5830i) running:
- Gingerbread 2.3.6
- Baseband version S5830iXXLK1
- Kernel version 2.6.35.7
- Build number GINGERBREAD.XXLK3
I've already rooted it so I have superuser access, and I managed that perfectly well on my own
I installed titanium backup and somehow I managed to uninstall the stock email that comes with the phone. I think this is my problem because I now cannot download anything from google play, nor can I add a new gmail account to do so, so I'm stuck in no mans land not able to use googleplay (because my gmail account is now missing from my phone) nor can I seem to figure out how to get th apk file directly into the phone so that I can start fresh.
I'm also absolutely stuck on how to flash the phone and start again because nothing I seem to read is explaining it in simple clear terms that a layman can understand. When I do find a simple explanation, I find it's only for the non 'i' version of the phone, or if I find a simple instruction it's zip files for the rom do not contain all the files I need to use with odin v1.5
Also, there are conflicting explanations on flashing the rom on different forums/sites so I dare not use one over the other because another one contradicts it. I do not want to ruin my phone as right now it still basically works for now as a phone.
In my phone menu, the gmail icon is still there, just not the icon/app that said "email". The icon is now missing from my menus and with it there is now no way to use the play services without a gmail account on the phone.
When I click the gmail icon, it stats to open and then just shuts off quickly, not opening gmail, so I'm pretty sure all this is due to me deleting the email app using titanium backup.
Make sense?
What I'd really be grateful for is if on of you guys could help me out and explain in very simple terms what I need to do to either install the apk directly (preferred) so that I can add a gmail account to the phone and get access to google play again, or failing that a simple how to flash the rom with stock gingerbread, together with links to software that's known to be bonafide.
I am literally being driven mad going around in circles on forums and sites to keep going back to square one.
Any help will be very gratefully received. Or I'm afraid this may mean I'm going to smash my new phone int a wall and never use a smartphone again, because obviously I'm too stupid to play around with them on my own.
I really appreciate your help if someone would be able to invest a little time here.
Thanks very much for your time, guys
Jobeeey
additional info
Right, these are the instructions I found on this forum, but I'm unclear if I'm approaching this right..
Flashing s5830i with Odin v1.85
1.Turn off the phone and put it in Download mode by pressing Power+Volume Up+volume down.
2.Open Odin v1.85.Run as Administrator!.
3.Put the files in Odin and don't touch the settings
4.If it's a one-file firmware put it in PDA section.
If it's multiple put the files in the correct section.
5.Click start and don't touch the phone!Don't turn off computer and don't unplug the phone! It will reboot automatically and the first boot will take some time,so don't panic!
Click to collapse
I've found a rom (which is a single file) and if I'm reading this right I place that in the PDA section of Odin after installing the usb drivers onto my pc (done that and windows recognizes my phone in the sense that it isn't now hassling me for drivers every two seconds).
Ok.. so I seem to have got the correct rom for my specific ace model.. and the instructions seem to be that I now:
1) Connect usb cable
2) Boot my phone into download mode (I can do that I think).. but at what point do I press vol down to download a new os.. before or after pressing start in Odin?
3) Open Odin and add file as in my attached screenshot (I can do that)
4) Click 'start' in Odin
5) Wait for my phone to reboot
And that should be job done, the phone should be flashed with the stock rom again and that should get me back on track, right? Or am I about to screw up my phone and ruin it even further?
Thanks for reading. I hope someone can advise if I'm doing this right as I've seen other forums say that I should tick the 'Re-partition' box, and other that say I shouldn't, and this one says nothing about it at all.
This is one of the tings that's confusing me, and once I'm now flashing a phone for the first time it's flippin scary to do it on my lonesome!
This is what I mean..
I've just tested going into download mode with odin ready, and the phone gets there (vol up+down + power on).. but each time it gets into download mode it seems to disconnect from odin and no com port is open. I get the windows device disconnected/connected beeping and the connection seems to sever.
What the Fffff...
This is exactly what I'm talking about.. nothing seems to be working like it's meant to be and I'm getting nowhere with any instructions I can find after god knows how many hours researching this.
:crying:
update (lol)
Mornin all,
So, just in case anyone finds this useful..
The flashing problem is kind of irrelevant now because:
A) Odin (tried several versions) simply will not stay connected to my phone when it boots into download mode, and having checked many tutorials for this it sees that this is a problem some of us cannot get past.
Anyway, one of the methods to resolve this was to wipe the cache and clear all data etc, which I did, and now my phone is stuck on the "pres the android" screen, and my phone will no longer get past that. Tried pressing clockwise in all four corners but still nothing.
No probs.. so we move on to a new step of trying to split the roms via cygwin, but guess what? Every single time I try to download the cygwin files, that freezes at about 98% and will not download, no matter which mirror I select.
So, this is what I call a curse that isn't going to be lifted by me no matter hat. It's not not meant to be.
Therefore, what I'm going to do is take it to a local shop that unlocks mobiles and give it to them to flash back to stock rom for me.
If that doesn't work, do you know what I'm gonna do?
Nothing. Because there's nothing you can do when the processes do not follow the same progress as they do in the tutorials.
I hope other novice S5830i users save themselves all his time and trouble and don't bother following the same process and become locked out of their phone at the touch android screen.
Update
Yipee,
Right, I stumbled across a solution that worked for me.
What I did was get my 2gb msd card that came with the phone and slapped MindCR v1.0.12 on the card and whacked that in my phone (this bypassed not being able to get a new rom on the sd card as it wasn't unmounted before the crash, so my pc wouldn't recognise the date to put it on via the pc).
Then I updated the rom from that 2gb card (vol up + menu + power to get into recovery mode) and it took it a few minutes to update the firmware and give me back the full use of my phone, and with a shiny new os on it. Whoop!
I didn't bother with CWM as I'd forgotten to add it before flashing, but it worked none-the-less and I'm now back in business (wiped it manually).
As it turned out this version of MindCR works really well so far as I can tell. I realise there are updated roms now but I've come to the conclusion after the scare I had that if you're not entirely sure what you're doing, it's best to leave it alone if it ain't broke.
SO.. now I have a phone with what seems to be a better os than the stock and less bloatware on it, no phone problems I can see after thorough testing... and from what I can tell it turned out to be better than it was before the disaster.
And I learned a bit in the process. Like for example, don't feck around removing apps from smartphones with titanium unless you've backed them up and you're prepared to stress out for over 20hrs wondering what to do about it.
And, also, don't expect much help from a forum because you may not always get it. << That' not a dig at xda by the way. It's just a BIG forum so your threads may not be seen by the right person before they get buried in past pages.
Hope my little journey helps another unsuspecting S5830i user who comes across the thread.

[Q] I9000 Not working due software mess-up

Hey guys!
First off, i was searching through loads of forums and attempted different solutions. Anything to get it back working. This only made it worse
What happened was as follows:
After having CM 10.1 or some version of it (had the OS at 4.3 i believe), my phone was very slow, so slow in fact that i got so mad at it that i almost bit through it. So one day when i was in a tent at the foot of a mountain all alone (not that long ago) i decided to rollback the phone to its original state from backup i made some months ago before i upgraded the OS. At the same time just before this i backed up the current build just in case. Using ClockWorkMod 3pointsomething.
It went through everything and then asked me: Do you want to root this device? (or something in those lines). I, having no clue, clicked one of the million "no" on the screen.
After this it rebooted with errors saying "Can't detect this drive can't detect that drive". In other words, it couldn't detect niether Internal SD nor External SD. While having the Samsung logo being displayed without booting if i didn't go into "Volume Up, Menu Key and Start your tiny engines!".
I thought i could fix it and looked through tremendous amount of internets in attempt to fix it. Neither Odin nor Heimdall Frontend could detect the device even after installing the drivers and samsung kies and messing about with those two in between.
After a while i ended up with "Phone . . ! in a orange triangle . . PC" aka black screen of death, while the phone can go into download mode. Which in my hand is equally useless as no program can detect it still.
Now i just decided to start a new thread even though there is endless amount of other threads but none seem to cover exactly this as i haven't yet managed to fix it. Plus a response on progress is always pleasant as i personally don't know when i succeed unless phone works fully again.
How bad off am i?
Any input will be greatly appreciated! :victory:

second click on My Android Solutions (link below) and try methods to fix USB connection problems first after that get into download mode and use a rescue kit from MY Android Collections (link below) or follow this to flash a Gingerbread JVU stock ROM
Check this out! You , YES! you are an " Android ". Not your phone but U.
