Hi Everyone!!!!!!!!
I´m Thinking About Buying The Palm Treo 750v Of Vodafone, But As I Know It Was Released Almost One Year Ago, I Thought That Soon Or Later, There´ll Be A Brand New Model Or Successor Of The Treo 750v And Wait For It.
What Do U Think Buddies???
Thxs In Advance
There is *always* a new phone around the corner.
It's just like computers.
If you wait, you'll never buy anything.

What u´ve said is really true, but you all know what I mean. Just in case there will be a brand new realease coming soon, I should wait for it. DOn´t u think that??
I just need some info.
Thanks
Palm is rather in a 'mess' now to retaliate MS attacks from the PDA/smartphone front. Various speculations are floating around the net, which includes Nokia (and others) to take over Palm, and Palm in ditching their PalmOs to Linux-based system. Palm did a marvelous jobs at tackling PPC's onslaughts on the PDA fronts during the last few years, but this PDA-Phone round is not very good for Palm. So, chances are that Treo750 may be very well be the end of one of the Palm's era. Hence, personally, I don't think there will be a new unit coming out very soon for Treo, and if it does, probably it will be very much different, which may not be inline with the reason you go for a Treo.
I have heard that palm treo 750 WM6 OS is coming for Cingular. It is ok to buy for now and Treo 750 is best for everyday use.
The next device from Palm is not a PPC, its a SP... Also the next PPC has GPS... Both are expected this year but not for a few months.

you mean a palm + phone using windows mobile? when?and how much?
thanks everyone
The miracle of google..
News news news... - "Palm will unveil a platform before the end of 2007 that runs the Palm OS on top of a Linux kernel" ... but .. "Palm will also continue to use Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS"... "Recent industry rumors have suggested that either Motorola or Nokia would buy the company, but those whispers died down when Palm..."
WM6 news
If you want one go for it, based on the speed that Palm released the upgrade to the GSM Treo I'd say the 750 is in for a while.
And the 680 wasn't much of an upgrade to the 650, more like the 650.1.
WM6 on the Treo 750
Palm have announced that a WM6 upgrade WILL be released for the Treo 750 in due course. The inside information I have is that it will be here by late august!
Get a Treo 750 dude they are Immense!
what do you think about getting an wifi mini sdcard for wireless connections, do you think it´s a good idea???
The problem is I´m hesitating whether to buy aplm treo 750v with vodafone or ubiquio 501.
What do you advise me guys?????
Well, personally, wireless is not something that I would use, however, I would still feel incomplete without. Only now I noticed that 750 doesnt have WiFi. How much difference in price are the Treo and Ubi501?

100 euros more or less.
I prefer the treo because in my opinion it´s more stylized than the ubi501, but the lack is it has no wireless capabities.
Ubi501 processor is OMAP 850 at 200mHz, very slow based on my own experiences but could be enough. The screen is 240x240 and it may have some problems installing some softwares on it, but i think it´s he same siza than the palm.
My aim is getting a very very very small device indeed with keyboard such as treo or ubi501 and if it is possible with the best wireless capabilites.
ANy suggestions?????
You may need to check with your specs again. From what I've gathered so far, it seems that the only thing I can see Palm is better than this Ubi is the processor.
Screen wise, Palm is the one with 240x240 screen. This Ubi has QVGA screen (320x240). Ubi has larger storage, better camera, and only 1/2 as thick as Palm, it is SEXY.
Have you read this?

BTW, if what it said above is true, it maybe dodgy to get a phone, that is owned by Expansys.. in a way.. not as safe as getting it from Treo.. which.. well you decide.
The Ubi 501 is old news now and I agree does not compare to the Treo. However in June the Ubi 503G is releasing and it is looking to be a great device. Here is a link to a thread at HoFo where we have been discussing it.

it seems to be a palm powered device, isn´t it????
When I said sucessor, I meant, windows mobile powered.
what do you think???
well it shows new devices are still coming and treo have remarked lots of times that they will have dual releases, palm and windows to come,(also with linux too)
so its only a matter of time before a new windows device, why spend all that money to launch one windows device then, quit?
they will for sure be realsing further windows devices
its seems to me all pda, smartphones and mobile phone makers, are at the moment holding back,im sure behidn the scenes, its all about tryign ti figure out how to get voip and gps right and fit them into there devices
i belive there will be a few genral releases from all makers, plodding on then once they have it all sorted the output will be hughe
look at nokia ,rushing to be first to market with the n95,people are so demanding with there devices nowdays,i suspect another windows powered treo before xmas for the usa and for the rest of us in 1st q8

I agree with you about they will release a brand new treo powered by WM6 bf Xmas, but that sounds very late on time, doesn´t it????
I´m not sure if they´ll release another on bf that time, because in my opinion they have to make some profits with the first treo with Microsoft on it, don´t you think?
T-Mobile website has the WM 6.0 update for the DASH but not the MDA.
ok and ur mad.. why?
So please - lock in, download and share.
lol
i went to the site and the only update is for tmobile dash. thats all i saw. so please let me know if i am wrong
Thats correct. Windows mobile 6 will only be offered for upgrade for the T-mobile dash.
As we all know, the MDA has been discontinued and will be replaced with "the wing"
The wing will come with wm6 preinstalled. In my opinion, its a worthless phone. It's the SAME processor speed, and there are no tactile buttons on front for messaging or internet. instead, the messaging button on the side and there is no more browser button.
Sure it has a 2MP camera... but NO flash!
One of the "perks" is that it has a spring loaded slide out keyboard.... another opporunity for something to break if u ask me.
But does it really matter if t-mobile doesn't have wm6? All the great chefs will be able to get their hands on the official wm6 and tweak it for us anyway. Standard roms are horrid. And the unofficial wm6 roms by the very talented ichefs in these forums are working close to flawless

no the ROMs are are legit WM6, not WM5 with WM6 looks. the MDA has been discontinued. HTC, nor t-mobile will be giving a WM6 upgrade. I've been running WM6 on my MDA for a month though. Just do that.

The MOST SERIOUS problem with all of WM6's posted here is the phone radio driver.
It would be *REALLY* great if someone is able to adapt the radio in this to the wizard wm6. It seems that the biggest weakness in the WM6 hacks posted here is the "radio." Thus far, only 2.19 is reported to be at all reliable (all others tested are reported to miss calls). I confirmed missed calls on 2.40 yesterday (SF Bay Area, t-mob, NTS vanilla).
But 2.19 has nasty problems with signal acquisition, especially when the signal is weak.
If this new phone has the same processor (OMAP), then maybe the radio will work, or could be hacked to work, on MDA hardware??

Quote from link - The HTC Wing S730 is powered by a Samsung SC32442 400Mhz processor, 128MB ROM, 64MB, and has a QVGA LCD screen, 3G and HSDPA support. There is also a secondary camera for video calls.
It seems to have a 200% faster 32-bit processor...
Are you sure it doesn't have tactile buttons? All I've seen is artist renderings and those are never exactly perfect.
Are you sure that it doesn't have a flash? I've yet to see even an artist rendering of the back side of the phone.

hmm I haven't had that issue as my calls seem to be coming through fine. Once the Wing is released, since it has roughly the same hardware as the MDA, it should be easy to "port" the t-mobile WM6 ROM for the MDA or at least the radio.

Wish I could help, but I don't have the expertise with these to extract a radio. Hope someone else can give you a hand. "Nottoosmart" in the US has done a great job in cleaning things up and providing a reliable wm6. I don't believe he has expertise in the internals, but he appears to be very knowledgeable in putting a system together and removing troublesome "extras." Perhaps if you can get him a copy of the new radio he might be able to extract and test it.
Right now the RADIO is a huge problem. All of the hacks and "cooked" roms are worthless if the phone doesn't answer or work right.

There is no way you can compare the Shift to the Uni, this is a UMPC with communication functions running Windows Vista. It has a seven inch screen and is more comparable to a fully function laptop, with normal apps, not PPC apps.
If you have to find a comparison then I would suggest the HTC Advantage X7501 which runs WM6 and has a five inch screen. The thing I believe makes the uni unique is the solid keyboard, something neither the Shift or the Advantage posses.
compare it to THAT

It isa Vista device, not WM6. the same case as above.
it has all the functions of the athena and why use windows mobile if you can use vista. it also has video calls etc. but the sony hasn't it only functions as a umpc. the x7501 has its front camera removed so how can you make video calls. I have a htc x7500 and htc universal but i still think the shift will be the ultimate umpc/mobile just link to a virtual keyboard for a bigger keyboard. Normal apps is better imagine playing old pc games in a handheld device rather than looking for ports of the actual game. The shift's keyboard is atteched like the universal but rather than a clamshell design it slides. Has 1.2ghz and 1gig of ram i believe its has a goforce 5200 videocard and 30gig hdd and it is also expandable via micro sd the only thing it doesnt have is a gps reciever then just do the same thing use an external reciever.for security it has a fingerprint scanner even the x7500 doesnt have this.
is this not a closer successor to the Universal?......
iMate Ultimate 7150?

Hi all,
Is it possible for Universal to support HSDPA by upgrading to WM6?
I thought Universal can support HSDPA just like Hermes... My Universal was delivered just 2 weeks ago, and I'm migrating my data from Hermes to Universal just now. After setting up everything, I found this problem...
Any suggestion for this situation?? (I love big screen and useful keyboard that the reason why I changed from Hermes to Universal.)

No, it won't support it ever.
I'm afraid different hardware is required for HSPDA.
Sorry.
Psi
And I'm planning switching to Hermes!
You won't ever have HSDPA with this machine.
The question though is whether you really need HSDPA or now. Apart from using your PPC as a modem you should be on the safe side for most browsing / downloading senarios. The QVGA resolution of the Hermes makes the device a whole lot less usable for many things like web browsing, PDF / Office files (Excel at 320*240 = not fun!) and ebooks. That said the Hermes ain't half bad either of course - I just don't get HTCs policy to not include a VGA screen in such a high end (/ priced) device. Guess it will remain their secret forever...

well there would be no sense in putting a VGA display on (guessing; may be wrong) 2,8" display of Hermes.
Thanks all. I'll return to use Hermes then.
By the way, what is the option for people who need mobile phone with qwerty Keyboard, VGA screen, VM6 and HSDPA??
Another mobile? or Modify universal?!
None at the moment.
Btw, the upside of a QVGA device is the smaller size. And QVGA devices are very much usable with web browsing using Opera Mini.. Not to mention that you won't need a stylus for most QVGA devices now.
But if you do excel sheets a lot. Stick to VGA.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll pass on the V 900, I need my slide out keyboard. May wait if they announce a sliding keyboard version of the 900.
They are completely different. O2 sometimes uses HTC for manufacturing devices but Eten is not like that. And the hardest part is, there are no much Eten users here in xda and so don't expect any custom ROMs.
PS: But as far as Ive experienced with Eten, unlike HTC, they themselves provide a heavily customized ROM which will definitely be faster than HTC! And call recording works clearly on both ends!
Regards,
Carty..
Forgot to mention that providing VGA resolution in qVGA size is Eten and no HTC has it!
Regards,
Carty..
Does Eten provide drivers optimized for hardware video acceleration? Seeing the limitations of recent HTC phones, and having in mind a VGA resolution requires 4x the processing power of QVGA, I would say that's a must.
And, do they offer ROM updates too? HTC gave free updates from WM 5 to WM 6 for many of their phones.

Hi, I had from many years a HTC Himalaya and I loved it... but now I have bought an ETEN Glofiish M800... about the Customizable ROM here u can find a recently customized Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM for the Glofiish: http://eten-users.eu/index.php?showtopic=13538
Regards,
Cristian (aka tesKing)
i dont know for these new devices but for the x500/m700 ive read in many forums that eten devices with vga screens were "slow"
but ive tested none by myself
I have a TYTNII and bought the Eten M800 due to the VGA screen. The speed is more or less the same as for the HTC, i.e. slow but still useable. However you get VGA resolution in a very good quality screen. Apart form that, the M800 is almost inusable, it has touch sensitive buttons that make the everyday use a real PAIN. The WM6 is very unstable in this device probably due to the amount of (useless) applicattions that ETEN has preloaded. I found a workaround to the problem of the buttons:
1) Disable the touch buttons using the registry (leave "OK" and the Windows logo only)
2) Change the voice comnmander by the Cyberon Voice Speed dial
Then there is the problem of the paint....mine looks like 5 years old and has les than one month. Unfortunately I sold the TYTNII... too early.
I use the M800 and I am quite satisfied so far.
Sold my Touch Dual and apart from the weird touch buttons and the small RAM its a very nice device.
There are cooked roms available and you don't need to unlock anything. just put the ROM files on a FAT16 SD card, boot, hold a few buttons and 8 mins later its done.
GPSSlovakias WM 6.1 ROM for the M800 is stable and fast, much faster than the stock ROM.
i also disabled the buttons on the front. unfortunately they are not really usable.
the M810 is nice for sure, but only QVGA!
once you get used to a VGA screen you really cant go back anymore. the difference is huge. especially with apps that take full use of it, like the excellent Netfront 3.5 browser and PocketXpdf.
also it just looks that much cleaner. on TodayAgenda I can show much more info, the SPB Plus and Phone icons looks superb, etc...
IMHO its a great device but has a few shortcommings.
what i would love in the next eten:
128MB ram
flush screen
real front buttons
better keyboard
i would not say that the M800 is unusable. not for me, at least.
it was a great upgrade to my touch dual and as the dual has basically no hardware buttons, it doesnt make much difference that the M800 ones are unusable
btw, I used AE Button Plus for disabling the buttons as its more comfortable that way
the speed of the device is very good with the newest WM 6.1 ROM, really. and there is a new touch screen driver that resolves the 80% CPU bug when pressing the screen.
ROMs for ETEN M800
I agree that once you disable the buttons the device is just OK, specially the screen pays for the rest of the troubles (shared in part by HTC devices). However, I miss the nice send and end buttons of the TYTNII. Where do you get the cooked ROMs? Do you know if there is any available in spanish? I had to buy the WME version because apparently they don't market the device in Spain or any spanish speaking country or I haven't located any dealer selling a spanish version... Maybe it still does not exsist.
I've been able to enter in bootlader mode by pressing power+record+hw reset, then a terminal screen prompts for a USB loader and then for a SD card image file, however I haven't found any rom so far.
here:
WM 6.1 thread
but if you can wait, a new rom version will be upped, according to the thread starter.
I have the WWE version too, as they dont make them in German
no idea if there is a spanish rom.
of course good buttons would be nice, but i disabled the lower row and use the win, ok, left, right buttons and it works well that way.
btw if you click the record button twice, the touchbuttons get locked. if you click twice again, they get unlocked. maybe this is helpful for you
I see a lot of people complaining about the touch buttons but I am having a good experience with them. I found M800 really nice and usable.

Hi,
Could you tell, please, what program do you use to record on both ways with an E-ten?
Thank you
hi there....
should i buy this fone for 250€ ?
i got an HTC Wizard for 3 years.
The m800 is the worst phone I ever had..
Bad paint, flimsy battery cover, 64MB RAM (too low for the VGA screen).
Even my ancient universal is faster (also with 64 MB) then the m800..
Glad to have a diamond now.
My advice: it's not worth the money.
For 250 you can probably buy yourself a second hand Diamond..
