I am MAD T-Mobile has upgrade to WM6.0 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

T-Mobile website has the WM 6.0 update for the DASH but not the MDA.

ok and ur mad.. why?

So please - lock in, download and share.
lol

i went to the site and the only update is for tmobile dash. thats all i saw. so please let me know if i am wrong

Thats correct. Windows mobile 6 will only be offered for upgrade for the T-mobile dash.
As we all know, the MDA has been discontinued and will be replaced with "the wing"
The wing will come with wm6 preinstalled. In my opinion, its a worthless phone. It's the SAME processor speed, and there are no tactile buttons on front for messaging or internet. instead, the messaging button on the side and there is no more browser button.
Sure it has a 2MP camera... but NO flash!
One of the "perks" is that it has a spring loaded slide out keyboard.... another opporunity for something to break if u ask me.
But does it really matter if t-mobile doesn't have wm6? All the great chefs will be able to get their hands on the official wm6 and tweak it for us anyway. Standard roms are horrid. And the unofficial wm6 roms by the very talented ichefs in these forums are working close to flawless

what roms should i take then? and are they build on a wm6 base of an wm5 with wm6 looks?

no the ROMs are are legit WM6, not WM5 with WM6 looks. the MDA has been discontinued. HTC, nor t-mobile will be giving a WM6 upgrade. I've been running WM6 on my MDA for a month though. Just do that.

RADIO NEEDED for MDA WM6, t-mob, WM6 needed

The MOST SERIOUS problem with all of WM6's posted here is the phone radio driver.
It would be *REALLY* great if someone is able to adapt the radio in this to the wizard wm6. It seems that the biggest weakness in the WM6 hacks posted here is the "radio." Thus far, only 2.19 is reported to be at all reliable (all others tested are reported to miss calls). I confirmed missed calls on 2.40 yesterday (SF Bay Area, t-mob, NTS vanilla).
But 2.19 has nasty problems with signal acquisition, especially when the signal is weak.
If this new phone has the same processor (OMAP), then maybe the radio will work, or could be hacked to work, on MDA hardware??

Quote from link - The HTC Wing S730 is powered by a Samsung SC32442 400Mhz processor, 128MB ROM, 64MB, and has a QVGA LCD screen, 3G and HSDPA support. There is also a secondary camera for video calls.
It seems to have a 200% faster 32-bit processor...
Are you sure it doesn't have tactile buttons? All I've seen is artist renderings and those are never exactly perfect.
Are you sure that it doesn't have a flash? I've yet to see even an artist rendering of the back side of the phone.
Where are you getting this information?

hmm I haven't had that issue as my calls seem to be coming through fine. Once the Wing is released, since it has roughly the same hardware as the MDA, it should be easy to "port" the t-mobile WM6 ROM for the MDA or at least the radio.

Wish I could help, but I don't have the expertise with these to extract a radio. Hope someone else can give you a hand. "Nottoosmart" in the US has done a great job in cleaning things up and providing a reliable wm6. I don't believe he has expertise in the internals, but he appears to be very knowledgeable in putting a system together and removing troublesome "extras." Perhaps if you can get him a copy of the new radio he might be able to extract and test it.
Right now the RADIO is a huge problem. All of the hacks and "cooked" roms are worthless if the phone doesn't answer or work right.

well this is very interesting indeed. Forgive my cynicism, but could you please post some pictures mate?.
You may have given the magician owners some hope. I just hope its not a wind up.
i HOPE YOU ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT `CHARMER'
Is This A joke ?
I am sure this is a joke..magician didnt even see the daylight of wm5 left behind wm6.....the best joke of the day!!!!
Oh no... the story is about to start all over again... once with WM5, now with WM6... the only breakthru we had was Big Storage by some russian guy... but he was never seen again. I wonder whether he'd have the knowledge to put any new OS on the Magician... if yes, I reckon I'd sell my <whisper>TyTN</whisper>...
its not a joke it will pop a picture on soon as pos should be later i used wm6 download of a download site that is named fotos.rar i will have use the girlfreinds phone cam to take the pics

No.
T-Mobile MDA Compact II is *Charmer*
i-Mate JAM is *Magician*
silly people posting incorrect info
(says in silly voice) i bet vista would have a better chance of working on Magician.
is our jam that bad nothing works on it?
No i think it is a good phone, but ... you will stick to WM2003
im happy with the Jam, My wife has the prophet which uses WM05. WM05 is lacking some stuff i use all the time in WM03 like the memory balance
Jam (Magician) is not that bad.. as a matter of fact, some prefer Jam for their speed over the WM5 devices. And some prefer the WM2003 stuff, like an interesting example, the Word in WM2003 enables you to hand-write and type in the same document, while Word in WM5 doesnt allow you to do that. If you can hold down your though of.. the grass on the other side looks greener.. Jam is just another good device.
i get ya, i guess u guys are right

Yeah, I'd like 3G (even though it drains the battery much faster).
And then supposably there is the 2nd video cam and a GPS receiver.
The cpu is apparently a Samsung running on 400MHz.
Combined with the same form factor as the S710 it sounds unbeatable to me.
Ah, that's the "Wing" in T-mobile's shop and is a different model.
The S730's nickname is "Wings"
Here's a preliminary spec:

The release date is July '07

Everyone keeps saying it is coming out, but frankly, besides a photoshop'd mockup of this, there have been NO, repeat NO pictures of this in any form. No one has reported seeing one, no fuzzy pictures, etc. Until we get some information about this phone, some pictures, a release of info that is credible, I think that it's no where near release, and more like a Christmas time release at earliest. Seriously, why release the Vox, and then something that will blow it out of the water less than 6 months after the Vox release? It will cannibalize it's own market segment. I hope I am wrong, but with no pictures, or info on it, I don't see it as anything more than a future release, and nothing sooner.
Yes, it seems hard to imagine that they will release it so soon after the S710. However, there are different markets for both models. Don't forget that many users have no need for 3G, besides that the battery drains much faster. In that spec on pdadb.net it mentions only 12 hours! If that's true then many users are better off with the S710.
The Qalcomm MSM7200 chipset exists already since more than a year and does offer all those cool features. Usually mobile manufacturers need about a year to build phones around a new chipset. So from that point of view the timing could be right.
Here is more info about the chipset:

D'you think the pic showing "active GPS" is for real or just a mockup?
GPS is a deal/no deal feature for me (in addition to the feeble battery... but as for the Vox there may be more powerful replacement batteries available).
Like for the Hermes there will most likely be a Wings100, Wings200... at least with different casing. Would a provider (like T-Mo Germany) be able to order units which are GPS hardware-deficient (lacking antenna, for instance)? For example, T-Mo Germany disabled (mechanically blocked!) the front videocall button of its "MDA vario II" Hermes variant.
How would one be able to tell if a specific S730 unit indeed has all necessary GPS hardware onboard?

WM5 vs. WM6 - Why still WM5?

I've noticed that lots of people still use WM5 and I'm curious as to why? Out of the box my Uni has been ridiculously slow on WM5, even if I don't install all the add-in cabs. After upgrading to practically any WM6 rom here the speeds are more in line with what we can expect out of any 500mhz CE device.
So: Why still WM5? What are the benefits to keeping with WM5? Are there any examples that you guys have?
Perhaps because WM5 leaves more free RAM then WM6
For this users WM5 is more stable, but i`m not so sure, WM6 is better solution in my opinion
I personally find the opposite that you have.
WM5 for me is significantly faster than WM6.
Having cooked both WM5 and WM6 roms I will freely admit that WM6 is certainly less restrictive to work with from a developer point of view.
Also on the universal WM6 does not have fully functional videocall and WIFI WPA-PSK can be a pain.
Psi
WM6 as of now is really fast and responsive and doesn't crash anymore if you get the right ROMs. But I remember myself switching back from the early WM6 ROMs to WM5 because even as an early adopter there are limits and those clearly were reached with those releases. They would crash at least 5 times a day and would *never* survive the night. Also the speed was beyond what I would call pleasant even if it was not as bad as the first WM5 versions.
I remember installing the very first release on my x50v back then with high expectations. I was utterly disappointed by a start menu that took 5 seconds (no joke!) to unfold and an overall responsiveness worse than Vista's (which otherwise is the king of sluggishness). But I digress - let's get back to your question.
Besides the already mentioned bugs in the videocall and WiFi functions you also get a nice memory leak (less bad in some of the recent releases), sometimes cut off call notifications, problems with certain radio ROMs (which might be an issue under WM5, too), battery drain problems on some devices and many minor things that - despite our great developers efforts - make you realize that WM6 never was officially released for the Universal.

I bought my Universal (new + storage card) for 290$, are You kiddin me
And my choice is:
- big vga screen
- big qwerty keyboard
- fast processor
- laptop like construction
- WM6
My Uni right now has:
02 XDA Exec (G4)
WM6PRO Business AKU 0.7
16gb A-Data SDHC
Crystal Clear Case ;-)
Motorola H375 Bluetooth headset
I tried the other WM6 roms but as everyone just mentioned, memory/feature problems. I was really disappointed by thingonaspring's new wm6 rom but ultimately had issues with battery drainage and odd quirks!
I don't use videocall and all the other features work like a charm (particularly SDHC). I also never reboot with Laurentius' WM6Pro Business Rom! (THANK YOU!) Funny mentioning wifi problems but I haven't had an issue with them once going into my router and making sure the settings match.
Anyway, I'd like to try a WM5 rom, especially if there's speed improvements. Are there any you guys recommend? I'm mostly concerned with stability and speed. Oh, and SDHC is a must so I can use my 16gb SDHC card. ;-)

Which version of Laurentius' WM6Pro do you use, i am new to all this & have tried 2.08.01 which was good apart from contacts & 2.09.01 which works ok but didn't seem to be as stable, with some programs not working as expected. I would like to stick with WM6 if possible. Is there a vanilla Laurentius 2.08.01 around somewhere.
fed up of wm6
hi i had flashed almost all the WM6 roms, was not fully satisfied.. i found only JW's ROM stable, others had issues.. now im back to WM5, and trying to flash some of the cooked WM5 like Psidoc's .. so far im happy with WM5.. i changed the look a bit, using WM6 theme..
Im using Jwrightmcps Crossbow ROM 2.12.08 WWE and love the speed and its very stable. WPA TSK works fine and I have never wanted to make a video call anyway. yes its got a little less ram. on average about 4-5mb less but I can live with that aslo
Pros & Cons
WM6 Advantages (most of the ROMs here)
- better interface, icons
- improved speed
- stable (some of the ROMs are, especially Jwrights & Ranjus latest)
- powerful search function
WM6 Disadvantages
- no videocall
- WiFI unstable for certain configurations
- certain ROMs have SYNC issues especially notes (Ranju's works perfectly)
- camera response is quite slow and some have memory buffer issues
WM5 Advantages (T-Mobile Official AKU3.3, get the latest release on January 2008)
- stable
- all the functions are working and utilized 100%
- good speed (similar to WM6)
- supports SDHC (I tested with 4GB SDHC card)
WM5 Disadvantages
- lacking on the GUI
My verdict
If you want better GUI, go for my favourite Ranju's v5.1 (I have not tested v6 yet), its a very well designed ROM.
If you want full functionality, go for T-Mobile Official AKU3.3 WM5 ROM (January 2008 released), i am using it currently as to support for Video Calling.
Otherwise, TRIAL & ERROR, find the one that suits you. Or you may help the developers by flashing their ROM and provide FEEDBACK to them, to let the grow and improve.
Thats it.
The keyword, spend some time in the Forums here, flashing, and patience, you may love your UNI even more...

Their own; see http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=878
However, I'd wait for the V900 instead if you definitely want to go for E-TEN See http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1080

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll pass on the V 900, I need my slide out keyboard. May wait if they announce a sliding keyboard version of the 900.
They are completely different. O2 sometimes uses HTC for manufacturing devices but Eten is not like that. And the hardest part is, there are no much Eten users here in xda and so don't expect any custom ROMs.
PS: But as far as Ive experienced with Eten, unlike HTC, they themselves provide a heavily customized ROM which will definitely be faster than HTC! And call recording works clearly on both ends!
Regards,
Carty..
Forgot to mention that providing VGA resolution in qVGA size is Eten and no HTC has it!
Regards,
Carty..
Does Eten provide drivers optimized for hardware video acceleration? Seeing the limitations of recent HTC phones, and having in mind a VGA resolution requires 4x the processing power of QVGA, I would say that's a must.
And, do they offer ROM updates too? HTC gave free updates from WM 5 to WM 6 for many of their phones.

Yeah well if HTC keeps treating its customers like crap maybe there will be support for Eten in here(crappy phones, crappy customer support, bad or wroong drivers)

if you really need a keyboard you might wanna wait for the Eten M810, the sucessor to the M800, it looks really good with good specs, from personnal experience, the devices are good quality and the roms have plenty of OEM customazation from Eten.

Hi, I had from many years a HTC Himalaya and I loved it... but now I have bought an ETEN Glofiish M800... about the Customizable ROM here u can find a recently customized Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM for the Glofiish: http://eten-users.eu/index.php?showtopic=13538
Regards,
Cristian (aka tesKing)
i dont know for these new devices but for the x500/m700 ive read in many forums that eten devices with vga screens were "slow"
but ive tested none by myself
I have a TYTNII and bought the Eten M800 due to the VGA screen. The speed is more or less the same as for the HTC, i.e. slow but still useable. However you get VGA resolution in a very good quality screen. Apart form that, the M800 is almost inusable, it has touch sensitive buttons that make the everyday use a real PAIN. The WM6 is very unstable in this device probably due to the amount of (useless) applicattions that ETEN has preloaded. I found a workaround to the problem of the buttons:
1) Disable the touch buttons using the registry (leave "OK" and the Windows logo only)
2) Change the voice comnmander by the Cyberon Voice Speed dial
Then there is the problem of the paint....mine looks like 5 years old and has les than one month. Unfortunately I sold the TYTNII... too early.
I use the M800 and I am quite satisfied so far.
Sold my Touch Dual and apart from the weird touch buttons and the small RAM its a very nice device.
There are cooked roms available and you don't need to unlock anything. just put the ROM files on a FAT16 SD card, boot, hold a few buttons and 8 mins later its done.
GPSSlovakias WM 6.1 ROM for the M800 is stable and fast, much faster than the stock ROM.
i also disabled the buttons on the front. unfortunately they are not really usable.
the M810 is nice for sure, but only QVGA!
once you get used to a VGA screen you really cant go back anymore. the difference is huge. especially with apps that take full use of it, like the excellent Netfront 3.5 browser and PocketXpdf.
also it just looks that much cleaner. on TodayAgenda I can show much more info, the SPB Plus and Phone icons looks superb, etc...
IMHO its a great device but has a few shortcommings.
what i would love in the next eten:
128MB ram
flush screen
real front buttons
better keyboard
i would not say that the M800 is unusable. not for me, at least.
it was a great upgrade to my touch dual and as the dual has basically no hardware buttons, it doesnt make much difference that the M800 ones are unusable
btw, I used AE Button Plus for disabling the buttons as its more comfortable that way
the speed of the device is very good with the newest WM 6.1 ROM, really. and there is a new touch screen driver that resolves the 80% CPU bug when pressing the screen.
ROMs for ETEN M800
I agree that once you disable the buttons the device is just OK, specially the screen pays for the rest of the troubles (shared in part by HTC devices). However, I miss the nice send and end buttons of the TYTNII. Where do you get the cooked ROMs? Do you know if there is any available in spanish? I had to buy the WME version because apparently they don't market the device in Spain or any spanish speaking country or I haven't located any dealer selling a spanish version... Maybe it still does not exsist.
I've been able to enter in bootlader mode by pressing power+record+hw reset, then a terminal screen prompts for a USB loader and then for a SD card image file, however I haven't found any rom so far.
here:
WM 6.1 thread
but if you can wait, a new rom version will be upped, according to the thread starter.
I have the WWE version too, as they dont make them in German
no idea if there is a spanish rom.
of course good buttons would be nice, but i disabled the lower row and use the win, ok, left, right buttons and it works well that way.
btw if you click the record button twice, the touchbuttons get locked. if you click twice again, they get unlocked. maybe this is helpful for you
I see a lot of people complaining about the touch buttons but I am having a good experience with them. I found M800 really nice and usable.

Hi,
Could you tell, please, what program do you use to record on both ways with an E-ten?
Thank you
hi there....
should i buy this fone for 250€ ?
i got an HTC Wizard for 3 years.
The m800 is the worst phone I ever had..
Bad paint, flimsy battery cover, 64MB RAM (too low for the VGA screen).
Even my ancient universal is faster (also with 64 MB) then the m800..
Glad to have a diamond now.
My advice: it's not worth the money.
For 250 you can probably buy yourself a second hand Diamond..

New polaris, not that impressed (ex wizard)

Hi , got my new orbit 2 (polaris) the other day and im not that impressed by it as yet.
I came from using my trusty vario(wizard) and it doesnt seem (as yet) much quicker than that.
I know it has built in gps, radio etc. But i cant put me finger on it why it hasnt impressed me much. i played a bit of video on it and it was a bit jumpy, also scroll is a bit iffy.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what it can do and do better than my old phone?
Or what to use to make it a pleasure to use.
Thanks.

Believe me..it could be one of most impressif pocketphone's out there..but the only problem with this device is that HTC didn't do there homework that good and put this device to soon on the market.
But when the new firmware (with drivers) come's online it will be one of the finest pocketphone's out there at the moment.
The only think for us is to pray that HTC will make the firmware with the drivers, otherwise it will go into be books as a slow and bad preforming device 4-ever and HTC will loose a lot of trusty customers!
But like the other also said..it's being sad in a lot off topics now..so lets use the other threads for the complenning
i agree. i bought mine a week ago. the touch cruise and i am not that impress coming from a tmobile mda aka wizard. i still use my wizard. love it but cruise slow. internet is slow. features are wack. the only good thing is the radio but i dnt listen to radio and tomtom navigation. i live in nyc i use the subway so not that usefull to me. htc better come good or its apple for me.

This is exactly what I'm thinking...HTC really messed this wicked phone up....Gonna wait for the Xperia or Samsung i900.
You aren't getting drivers for it. You are getting a software patch that helps fix a few things like scrolling and some basic touch screen functionality, nothing to do with video.
unfortunately, if you want to watch movies you have to convert them yourself and spend the time doing it, then you can have some fun with high quality movies or shows.
i will think twice before I buy my next handset. I don't expect the most amazing device in the world, but I don't like to be mislead in advertising.
Funny, I find my Cruise does everything I ask of it. I find it an improvement in almost every way over the KJAM (OC'ed to 247mhz), and the Treo 750.
Can someone give me some links to help please? Thanks.

How is your cruise setup?
I've just installed Coreplayer .....runs pathetic....picture hardly moves when running a 480MB avi.
Camera...you can forget that....never seen such rubbish...I'm sure the image quality is good...nobody should have to wait that long to take a picture.
I have a UK O2 Orbit 2....got rid of the O2 taskbar icon (after reading it was a memory hogger).
Installed :
HTC Home Screen...
HTC Theme (black) tsk file 102KB vs 200+KB for the 02 Theme.
Skype
Core Player 1.1.1
Opera 9.33
OTO
Calculator skin
WMP Skin
Advanced Configuration
PocketCM Keyboard (one of the best touch apps....never knew I could touch type that fast)
I for one am willing help in what it takes to have this phone running to at least 2/3 of its potential. Compared to my friend's Hermes...thats faster....got suckered into touch and WM6 Pro....
Where as touch v1 is a decent attempt (O2 just messed it up) I'm sure V2 only get better...Microsoft really need to integrate touch into the OS..(whats with the small up arrow next to keyboard selection on the taskbar...with so much empty space around it?....saving on real estate ?).
To me this OS looks/feels the same as the one I had on my SPV C500 years ago...(have you seen the WM6 original calculator !) 3rd party can only do so much.
Well I think HTC better watch out....to sell an expensive phone half finished...well what you say...advertising SOLD IT. But theres a few phones coming out soon and if they utilize the hardware and have half decent software then HTC will have to up the ante...should be interesting.
At the moment we will have to wait for what improvements HTC brings to this COOL LOOKING phone.
Sorry...I'm just a bit disapointed.

Aside from the video driver issues (which BTW hasn't bothered me that much), what software do expect HTC to ship with the device? HTC has done a good job integrating TouchFlo and HTC today into WM. It sounds to me like your complaints software-wise are more directed to MS rather than HTC.

Since both devices are the same performance and feature-wise your only decision is whether you require a physical keyboard on the Tytn II.

Thanks all...going to install Coreplayer 1.2.0....I did the tweaks, glyph and sound on the shutter..no effect really...maybe I've got a dud....warms up too in my hand....
Also if anyone is running the HTC home screen...which one is it ?...there so many to choose from...
Is there one specifically for the Polaris ?...I've seached and found many versions and variations.
but why does it seem as slow as my wizard? I thought the processor was supposed to be much faster? And the scrolling is finnicky to say the least.
i just downloaded coreplayer 1.3.0. whats so special about core player?
it's the player which supports most formats
I have the Orbit 2, and when I first tried using Internet Explorer I was very disappointed with the extremely slow and jerky scroll, if you could call it 'scroll'. Now that I have managed to install SPB Pocket Plus with the 'Smart Scroll' feature enabled, I'm now happy with that aspect. I haven’t tried video on it yet, but my thoughts now are that I do like the device, especially because of its form factor and looks. Before the Orbit 2 I had the SPV M3100 (Hermes), prior to this I had the SPV C500, and prior to that I had the original windows Smartphone, the Orange SPV.
For me, the Orbit is a step in the right direction, but I will be a little disappointed if video is unusable.
Overall I am happy with my Cruise (I have gotten a sim-free version). Apparently a number of people complain about speed, and I have noticed that this is also related to owners of Cruise who are on the O2 network. My guess is O2 loaded their version with useless software which reduces performance.
Regarding the video issue, I user Coreplayer 1.2 (coreplayer is a must), I encode my videos in QVGA resolution and they seem fine to me. True, you won't be able to take an existing DVD quality rip and expect Cruise to show it well, even in Coreplayer.
Performance-wise, Cruise could probably do a little better given its specs, but overall, I still think it is a very good and practival device.
Hopefully video issue will be addressed, I am not 100% confident it will be fully resolved though. Though the device works fine for me, it is quite upsetting to know that its hardware is not fully utilised...
As my closing statement have a look at the text below, from
gizmodo. com/gadgets/what.s-wrong-with-windows-mobile/whats-wrong-with-windows-mobile-and-how-wm7-and-wm8-are-going-to-fix-it-333536.php
=-=-=-=--=-=
Microsoft is working to fix the whole WM platform. Here's how:
Even when using a super sluggish WinMo phone, it's less an example of a manufacturer not meeting the minimum requirements for RAM, ROM and CPU power, and more a problem of software which has not been optimized to run on it. This is often the service provider's fault. For example, two phones with the same 400MHz processor can be totally different depending on how much optimization the provider decides to do. When you're using a slow phone, blame the provider.
On the same token, the Windows Mobile OS team actually does set a minimum hardware requirement for the "core" features of the OS to make sure the user experience is a good one, but the minimum-requirement bar may be set too low. When companies add apps on top of the core, things start to wobble. Product manager Derek Snyder told me that Microsoft will raise the bar for minimum requirements to a level where phones can be loaded with more software without slowing down the most basic of tasks (e.g. sliding open the AT&T Tilt from portrait to landscape mode).
