New polaris, not that impressed (ex wizard) - Touch Cruise General

Hi , got my new orbit 2 (polaris) the other day and im not that impressed by it as yet.
I came from using my trusty vario(wizard) and it doesnt seem (as yet) much quicker than that.
I know it has built in gps, radio etc. But i cant put me finger on it why it hasnt impressed me much. i played a bit of video on it and it was a bit jumpy, also scroll is a bit iffy.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what it can do and do better than my old phone?
Or what to use to make it a pleasure to use.
Thanks.

Believe me..it could be one of most impressif pocketphone's out there..but the only problem with this device is that HTC didn't do there homework that good and put this device to soon on the market.
But when the new firmware (with drivers) come's online it will be one of the finest pocketphone's out there at the moment.
The only think for us is to pray that HTC will make the firmware with the drivers, otherwise it will go into be books as a slow and bad preforming device 4-ever and HTC will loose a lot of trusty customers!
But like the other also said..it's being sad in a lot off topics now..so lets use the other threads for the complenning

i agree. i bought mine a week ago. the touch cruise and i am not that impress coming from a tmobile mda aka wizard. i still use my wizard. love it but cruise slow. internet is slow. features are wack. the only good thing is the radio but i dnt listen to radio and tomtom navigation. i live in nyc i use the subway so not that usefull to me. htc better come good or its apple for me.

This is exactly what I'm thinking...HTC really messed this wicked phone up....Gonna wait for the Xperia or Samsung i900.

You aren't getting drivers for it. You are getting a software patch that helps fix a few things like scrolling and some basic touch screen functionality, nothing to do with video.
unfortunately, if you want to watch movies you have to convert them yourself and spend the time doing it, then you can have some fun with high quality movies or shows.
i will think twice before I buy my next handset. I don't expect the most amazing device in the world, but I don't like to be mislead in advertising.

Funny, I find my Cruise does everything I ask of it. I find it an improvement in almost every way over the KJAM (OC'ed to 247mhz), and the Treo 750.

Can someone give me some links to help please? Thanks.

How is your cruise setup?
I've just installed Coreplayer .....runs pathetic....picture hardly moves when running a 480MB avi.
Camera...you can forget that....never seen such rubbish...I'm sure the image quality is good...nobody should have to wait that long to take a picture.
I have a UK O2 Orbit 2....got rid of the O2 taskbar icon (after reading it was a memory hogger).
Installed :
HTC Home Screen...
HTC Theme (black) tsk file 102KB vs 200+KB for the 02 Theme.
Skype
Core Player 1.1.1
Opera 9.33
OTO
Calculator skin
WMP Skin
Advanced Configuration
PocketCM Keyboard (one of the best touch apps....never knew I could touch type that fast)
I for one am willing help in what it takes to have this phone running to at least 2/3 of its potential. Compared to my friend's Hermes...thats faster....got suckered into touch and WM6 Pro....
Where as touch v1 is a decent attempt (O2 just messed it up) I'm sure V2 only get better...Microsoft really need to integrate touch into the OS..(whats with the small up arrow next to keyboard selection on the taskbar...with so much empty space around it?....saving on real estate ?).
To me this OS looks/feels the same as the one I had on my SPV C500 years ago...(have you seen the WM6 original calculator !) 3rd party can only do so much.
Well I think HTC better watch out....to sell an expensive phone half finished...well what you say...advertising SOLD IT. But theres a few phones coming out soon and if they utilize the hardware and have half decent software then HTC will have to up the ante...should be interesting.
At the moment we will have to wait for what improvements HTC brings to this COOL LOOKING phone.
Sorry...I'm just a bit disapointed.

Aside from the video driver issues (which BTW hasn't bothered me that much), what software do expect HTC to ship with the device? HTC has done a good job integrating TouchFlo and HTC today into WM. It sounds to me like your complaints software-wise are more directed to MS rather than HTC.

Since both devices are the same performance and feature-wise your only decision is whether you require a physical keyboard on the Tytn II.

I would suggest you installing Core Player 1.2.0

Thanks all...going to install Coreplayer 1.2.0....I did the tweaks, glyph and sound on the shutter..no effect really...maybe I've got a dud....warms up too in my hand....
Also if anyone is running the HTC home screen...which one is it ?...there so many to choose from...
Is there one specifically for the Polaris ?...I've seached and found many versions and variations.

but why does it seem as slow as my wizard? I thought the processor was supposed to be much faster? And the scrolling is finnicky to say the least.

i just downloaded coreplayer 1.3.0. whats so special about core player?

it's the player which supports most formats

I have the Orbit 2, and when I first tried using Internet Explorer I was very disappointed with the extremely slow and jerky scroll, if you could call it 'scroll'. Now that I have managed to install SPB Pocket Plus with the 'Smart Scroll' feature enabled, I'm now happy with that aspect. I haven’t tried video on it yet, but my thoughts now are that I do like the device, especially because of its form factor and looks. Before the Orbit 2 I had the SPV M3100 (Hermes), prior to this I had the SPV C500, and prior to that I had the original windows Smartphone, the Orange SPV.
For me, the Orbit is a step in the right direction, but I will be a little disappointed if video is unusable.

Overall I am happy with my Cruise (I have gotten a sim-free version). Apparently a number of people complain about speed, and I have noticed that this is also related to owners of Cruise who are on the O2 network. My guess is O2 loaded their version with useless software which reduces performance.
Regarding the video issue, I user Coreplayer 1.2 (coreplayer is a must), I encode my videos in QVGA resolution and they seem fine to me. True, you won't be able to take an existing DVD quality rip and expect Cruise to show it well, even in Coreplayer.
Performance-wise, Cruise could probably do a little better given its specs, but overall, I still think it is a very good and practival device.
Hopefully video issue will be addressed, I am not 100% confident it will be fully resolved though. Though the device works fine for me, it is quite upsetting to know that its hardware is not fully utilised...
As my closing statement have a look at the text below, from
gizmodo. com/gadgets/what.s-wrong-with-windows-mobile/whats-wrong-with-windows-mobile-and-how-wm7-and-wm8-are-going-to-fix-it-333536.php
=-=-=-=--=-=
Microsoft is working to fix the whole WM platform. Here's how:
Even when using a super sluggish WinMo phone, it's less an example of a manufacturer not meeting the minimum requirements for RAM, ROM and CPU power, and more a problem of software which has not been optimized to run on it. This is often the service provider's fault. For example, two phones with the same 400MHz processor can be totally different depending on how much optimization the provider decides to do. When you're using a slow phone, blame the provider.
On the same token, the Windows Mobile OS team actually does set a minimum hardware requirement for the "core" features of the OS to make sure the user experience is a good one, but the minimum-requirement bar may be set too low. When companies add apps on top of the core, things start to wobble. Product manager Derek Snyder told me that Microsoft will raise the bar for minimum requirements to a level where phones can be loaded with more software without slowing down the most basic of tasks (e.g. sliding open the AT&T Tilt from portrait to landscape mode).

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll pass on the V 900, I need my slide out keyboard. May wait if they announce a sliding keyboard version of the 900.
They are completely different. O2 sometimes uses HTC for manufacturing devices but Eten is not like that. And the hardest part is, there are no much Eten users here in xda and so don't expect any custom ROMs.
PS: But as far as Ive experienced with Eten, unlike HTC, they themselves provide a heavily customized ROM which will definitely be faster than HTC! And call recording works clearly on both ends!
Regards,
Carty..
Forgot to mention that providing VGA resolution in qVGA size is Eten and no HTC has it!
Regards,
Carty..
Does Eten provide drivers optimized for hardware video acceleration? Seeing the limitations of recent HTC phones, and having in mind a VGA resolution requires 4x the processing power of QVGA, I would say that's a must.
And, do they offer ROM updates too? HTC gave free updates from WM 5 to WM 6 for many of their phones.

if you really need a keyboard you might wanna wait for the Eten M810, the sucessor to the M800, it looks really good with good specs, from personnal experience, the devices are good quality and the roms have plenty of OEM customazation from Eten.

Hi, I had from many years a HTC Himalaya and I loved it... but now I have bought an ETEN Glofiish M800... about the Customizable ROM here u can find a recently customized Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM for the Glofiish: http://eten-users.eu/index.php?showtopic=13538
Regards,
Cristian (aka tesKing)
i dont know for these new devices but for the x500/m700 ive read in many forums that eten devices with vga screens were "slow"
but ive tested none by myself
I have a TYTNII and bought the Eten M800 due to the VGA screen. The speed is more or less the same as for the HTC, i.e. slow but still useable. However you get VGA resolution in a very good quality screen. Apart form that, the M800 is almost inusable, it has touch sensitive buttons that make the everyday use a real PAIN. The WM6 is very unstable in this device probably due to the amount of (useless) applicattions that ETEN has preloaded. I found a workaround to the problem of the buttons:
1) Disable the touch buttons using the registry (leave "OK" and the Windows logo only)
2) Change the voice comnmander by the Cyberon Voice Speed dial
Then there is the problem of the paint....mine looks like 5 years old and has les than one month. Unfortunately I sold the TYTNII... too early.
I use the M800 and I am quite satisfied so far.
Sold my Touch Dual and apart from the weird touch buttons and the small RAM its a very nice device.
There are cooked roms available and you don't need to unlock anything. just put the ROM files on a FAT16 SD card, boot, hold a few buttons and 8 mins later its done.
GPSSlovakias WM 6.1 ROM for the M800 is stable and fast, much faster than the stock ROM.
i also disabled the buttons on the front. unfortunately they are not really usable.
the M810 is nice for sure, but only QVGA!
once you get used to a VGA screen you really cant go back anymore. the difference is huge. especially with apps that take full use of it, like the excellent Netfront 3.5 browser and PocketXpdf.
also it just looks that much cleaner. on TodayAgenda I can show much more info, the SPB Plus and Phone icons looks superb, etc...
IMHO its a great device but has a few shortcommings.
what i would love in the next eten:
128MB ram
flush screen
real front buttons
better keyboard
i would not say that the M800 is unusable. not for me, at least.
it was a great upgrade to my touch dual and as the dual has basically no hardware buttons, it doesnt make much difference that the M800 ones are unusable
btw, I used AE Button Plus for disabling the buttons as its more comfortable that way
the speed of the device is very good with the newest WM 6.1 ROM, really. and there is a new touch screen driver that resolves the 80% CPU bug when pressing the screen.
ROMs for ETEN M800
I agree that once you disable the buttons the device is just OK, specially the screen pays for the rest of the troubles (shared in part by HTC devices). However, I miss the nice send and end buttons of the TYTNII. Where do you get the cooked ROMs? Do you know if there is any available in spanish? I had to buy the WME version because apparently they don't market the device in Spain or any spanish speaking country or I haven't located any dealer selling a spanish version... Maybe it still does not exsist.
I've been able to enter in bootlader mode by pressing power+record+hw reset, then a terminal screen prompts for a USB loader and then for a SD card image file, however I haven't found any rom so far.
here:
WM 6.1 thread
but if you can wait, a new rom version will be upped, according to the thread starter.
I have the WWE version too, as they dont make them in German
no idea if there is a spanish rom.
of course good buttons would be nice, but i disabled the lower row and use the win, ok, left, right buttons and it works well that way.
btw if you click the record button twice, the touchbuttons get locked. if you click twice again, they get unlocked. maybe this is helpful for you
I see a lot of people complaining about the touch buttons but I am having a good experience with them. I found M800 really nice and usable.

hi there....
should i buy this fone for 250€ ?
i got an HTC Wizard for 3 years.
The m800 is the worst phone I ever had..
Bad paint, flimsy battery cover, 64MB RAM (too low for the VGA screen).
Even my ancient universal is faster (also with 64 MB) then the m800..
Glad to have a diamond now.
My advice: it's not worth the money.
For 250 you can probably buy yourself a second hand Diamond..

Help for "to buy or not to buy"a HTC Touch Cruise???

Noob here............
Please help me to decide wether to buy the HTC TC or not
I've seen it first hand on a sample unit of the retail shop I went to just a couple of days ago..........
What I did first is saw the graphic interface asap,I saw some lagging in the scroll down of the programs folder, I mean the icons keep on mssing out when I scroll the page up or down.............my question is..............is this very serious........or this is acceptable for a lot of TC users here by now,coz for me it does not bother me too muchas long as the icons dont appear for 5-10 seconds out......u know what i mean............its acceptable for me,dont know about a lot of people here???
Secondly,i tried the wmp in video tab, there are two videos at the time I tried the TC, one is with the stone and sandy video the other one is the flower and the bee,at first try,I watched the first one and its kinda choppy or theres a little bit stuttering with the video playback, but nevertheless still minor fault for me,but when I played the flower&bee video irs as fast as it could be........so what gives???
so what I am trying to ask you guys here, specially TC owners,is it worth it to buy the HTC TC even with this slight video inconsistence witht the device, from day to day use.........can someone here complain that its a total crappy " device"?
does the other things the TC do also as crappy as the ones in the video department?i.e. internet,camera,calling,GPS,etc.etc.?
So if anyone can help me just a little bit to shed some light and insights for me to buy the HTC TC or opt for other PPC........please your advise will sure help me very much
thanks a lot
Vinz
the TC is actually the better device you can buy , I've it from four mounth and the day per day use is a pleasure , if TC is a crap think about what the others devices are........
TC is just my 2nd Pocket PC. My first was Xda Mini. To tell the truth, I like my TC so much. Like the TouchFLO so much. Can't live without it!!!
thanks for the inputs guys.............
so you are saying the TC out of the box is quite ok and fine with you, even without tweaks and rom updates, just the standard shiped unit state, is really performing alright,of course aside from the video jerkiness of some videos and some lags in window scrolling...may it be internet explorer or just the normal windows...still the TC is up to par???how about complains of GPS too long to connect?complain of the window litteraly composing itself slowly as you go from one window to another,etc.etc............or are this the effect of some really defective units or bad ones........or thus this happen to each and everyone of the TC owners as well???if not then i think its just a case to case basis then?
sorry for a lot of questions here........but for a $700++ unit I am really trying to get all the bases covered here,so to speak........
nevertheless......
hhhhmmmm.........I guess I might consider buying it for now...........need to research some more or read some more..........
oh by the way.....for TC owners.........in the HTC E-club support, the one u need to register the imei number of the TC.......do they have updates for roms and softwares there to maximize the video jerkiness of the TC?or other downloadable good stuffs..........????
thanks a mil
Vinz

Out of the box, the TC comes close to being "usable". However, it takes just a few registry hacks (see tips and tricks) to make it a great device. Sure, it still suffers from some video and scrolling lags, but for the most part it is a great device. As for video, I have had no issue playing video specifically encoded to play on WM devices.
Check out my first look over at Mobility Today.

oh thanks a lot Sir JNGOLD,that surely help me more on deciding whether to buy the TC or not,and a very nice review you got there.........
simple registry hacks?are they safer than flashing roms like i see here in the forums,I am really lost here when it comes to cooking, rom, flash, hard spl, radio roms,etc.etc.I kinda know a little about the registry hacks, like what we do in windows xp on our pc's same principle right?so for me I think some registry hacks won't harm the warranty of my device if ever I buy this thingy.I just don't think I am technical enough to do a flashing rom if ever.......
I just hope registry hacks for PPC are simple as the ones in the PC.......
well thanks a lot for your info, appreciate it very much

You don't have to flash roms or anything like that to enjoy the device. As for registry hacks, if you are familiar with exploring the registry on a PC, then performing them on a PPC will be a simple chore. You just need to get a registry editor like Resco Explorer (also a must-have file explorer), or even some freeware registry editors.
As for your warranty, no it won't affect it.
JN is a good person to listen to.
I work in the field and sell every phone. I left my Atom Life and Nokia N82 Black and Nokia N78 for the Touch Cruise today.
I could not be happier with every aspect. I installed Resco Explorer and I am good to go.
I chose this phone over anything else that is currently available.
Hey Vinzi76,
I have upgraded to the TC from using P3300 for a year, then using the Tytn II for 2 months.
By far, this is the best Windows Mobile phone in the world i would say! lovely styling, looks real classy! dont just go on the photos, they dont do it enough justice. you have to actually hold one to feel it! its just Superb!
I am in love with this now! before buying this, i too was contemplating wether to go for this or not, but after seeing this phone in real, i just couldnt resist!
You can check out the Tips and tricks thread on the Polaris upgrading forum for the reg hacks... also if you don't want to doi by hand then there's Schaps's Advanced config tool which is free to download and use...

I would recommend HTC HD
But first check here so you can make your own slection based on what you really need form a PDA:
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdachooser
Cheers,
Assuming money isnt a problem.
You need to know what you wanna do with the PDA.
1. Do you need GPS?
2. Do you play games?
3. Fast internet?
4. Do alot of typing?
5. Powerful Processor?
6. music and/or video?
7. Advance configuration like changing roms, cooking and major software tweaking?
If all the above is yes. Raphael is the overall best.
Touch HD got no D-pad so gaming is a little tedious. It also does not have a keyboard but has a superbly large screen.
Processor need not be powerful and need not type alot? got for Asus. P750 if u have the budget P320 if not.
Are you intending to learn to cook roms and develop software. Try HTC G1 android.

thank you guys! artemis is HTC p3300?? how about samsung omnia i900? is it good? i like the design and the specs ... i like the HTC HD but the price is so high ... 700 euros ... that's a lot of money that i will never spend on a PDA phone! I had the LG KS20 in may this year and i was very, very disappointed!

So far there has only been one good response to your question (Serphinox). You need to identify what YOU want the phone to do and be specific. All you will get is blatent favourtism with the way your question is worded.
Blatent favourtism...... (and my honest, very experienced opinion)
I have owned serveral HTC phones and regreted each one eventually. I now have an Omnia with the HJ5 firmware (a must!) and its absolutley awesome. It kicks some serious HTC booty. I've had a Blue Angel, TyTN, TyTN 2 and currently still own a Touch Diamond (Of all my HTC phones, I've had at least 2 of each due to hardware failures/poor manufacturing). Which phone do I use everyday? The Omnia.... no contest. The Omnia does have a lower res screen than HTC devices but actually, this is well thought out. It allows for a longer battery life, its VERY fast at updating (even my TD with Swiftblade 7.5 don't stand a chance) and .... because its low res, its VERY finger friendly like the Iphone. Put simply, it works. I now have zero issues with it, something I have NEVER been able to say about ANY HTC phone i've used. It simply does its job, everytime, 100% of the time with no fuss. Note though: Because of the screen res, don't buy it if you want to play games as they are generaly written in the standard screen formats of which this is not. Btw, dont use Samsung Widgets, they are for Joe Punter, you want Samsung Today 2... its the daddy!
Oh, who else has 32gig storage in there phone? Currently I have some 2500+ songs and iGO8 with all the world maps ..... and still loads of storage free
You know, i've also owned a Tosh G900 which was FAR from "tosh" and again an excellent phone. I only wish more people realised there was more to life than HTC.

edited my signature .. thank you for the great answer ! gonna get the omnia ... maybe dont know 4 sure but i believe it's a great deal. you say that the ress of the omnia screen is different from the other phones and i will not be able to play games ... now that's not GOOD
now i own a nokia e71 and i can change the ress of games and than install them into to my phone and they work ... is there a way that i could change the ress for the games that work on wm 6 devices??

its not that you WONT be able to play games, its just that you need games that are coded to work with odd screen sizes - and this can be limiting. I think its fair to say that most games written now are for 480*640 (640*480) and this is not the Omnias screen size. That said, the Omnia does seem to be selling very well so I would hope more developers start creating there apps to scale mathmaticaly rather than fixed for a specific size.
Should you wish to use SPB Shell, you are also limited to the amount of custom skins available however, this will grow .... you could even create your own!
As for your games, I would think you will be ok. They should be on your PC in your activesync program. Once you create a new sync between the pc and your new device, you can then go into activesync's add programs section and select to install. Of course, if you have the individual .CAB files (which are also actually on your pc as well) then you can just drag these on to your new device and install.
edit: I cannot stress enough though, you need to update to the HJ5 rom if you buy it. Details can be found at i900.modaco.com.
I vote for the Touch Pro.
In my opinion HTC devices I own or owned (Universal, Tytn and Touch) are great devices, never had problems with them, so that makes me stick to HTC because their experience manufacturing WM powered devices, also the great support and the main reason because of this wonderfull site!!.
If you decide for the Omnia you will not have the support form this site has for HTC devices (I´m sure exist another sites for Omnia)
So once again I´ll recommend an HTC device absolutly
Just my personal opinion
Good luck on your decision!

Yes you do, search and see! Windows Mobile is Windows Mobile You can also get cooked roms also from various sites.
However, OP, you have not really said what your requirements are and you need to. Be specific and people can really recommend properly rather than our phones

hhmm ... this would be the important specs: big screen (minimum 2.8 inch), gps, bluetooth, wireless, 128 ram, 256 rom, 400 mhz procesor, 3.2 mp camera with autofocus, qwerty keypad !
Whats got two cylinders, does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and holds the production record for top speed in its class?
OFFTOPIC! Monty is this your bike ???
yup. And I love it.

as long as you upgrade to latest firmware (see i900.modaco.com) you won't regret it. I would recommend though you try and see if you can get an Omnia-T. As mentioned, same phone but has DVB-T and 800*480 screen - although this will decrease battery life a little.
Anyway, enjoy!

Touch HD or Omnia2

Hay guys,
I am getting a new PDA, I have tytn now and it has served me good.
Could you give me your look on this two models, I am thinking about Samsung, since it has much better specs and display, but I got used to touchflo 3D interface a lot...
Is it possible to put it on Omnia?
Your answer will be appreciated and will help me decide what to buy.
Thanks!
There is one added value for choosing HD
The sup`port of this fantastic site!!
Just because of that I´ll choose HD even if omnia has better specs...
Yes, that is bothering me too...
Well if you're not gonna flash your device or use Touch Flo 3D or any other ported software, than get Omnia 2.
You will still be able to get support in this forum. Most of the issues of non-HTC devices can be supported/solved without the need to correspond to an HTC device.
You could use TouchFlo 3D on your Omnia 2 if its WVGA. However as mentioned above the support provided by this site significantly exceeds that of any site that supports the Omnia. To be completely honest, if you havent bought your device yet you should consider the Touch Diamond II. The reasoning behind this is i read an article somewhere mentioning that devices without a windows button will not get an official WM6.5 ROM or something stupid like that (Correct me if im wrong).
Ill be upgrading from my Tytn to an Omnia2
I agree that HTC gets great support here but Hardware and capability wise there is nothing to compare with the omnia2 on the horizon.
AMOLED screen, headphone jack,tv-out,5mpx cam with dual flash....what more could anyone possibly want?

A forum specialized like this for that device!!!
Hmm, the Touch HD vs Omnia II i8000.
Well, lets face it, this is a question of 'XDA support' or 'No XDA support'. Specs-wise, the i8000 has the Touch HD crushed completely (as have been the case with all new Samsung models; HTC hasn't updated their specs in forever).
Personally, if you ask me for a choice between those two models, I would go with the i8000. The main reason I love XDA support is that it makes the interface looks better and it makes the software faster, but from what I see, the i8000 is already plenty fast and it looks very, very good. Furthermore, the i8000 has support forums too (though not on the level of XDA), so any deficiency may be corrected by its own forums anyway.
The idea of choosing a WM device based on software seems very silly to me. One can find a CAB for just about any Windows Mobile software (including, yes, TouchFlo 3D), so transition between WM devices based on software is very simple. If anything, the i8000 should be more appealing software-wise as Samsung put a lot of amazing software on it that has not been ported to other devices yet.
Always buy for the better specs and design. Never buy for the software support. Buy for the software that is already provided.
Any extras can be found on other fan sites and other non-htc developers. Therefore the Omnia 2 is a much better choice.
Besides there are plenty of software that are created that supports non-htc devices, and there are also software that are created specifically for non-htc devices.
Furthermore alot of the technical problems are Windows Mobile based and not always HTC based.
The only 2 reasons to get HTC devices is 1) if you prefer the design and the specs of HTC and 2) if you want to flash your ROM.
HTC devices are easily flashed to a different ROM, but hey man not everyone uses ROMs... I don't ever use ROM's...
Therefore Omnia 2 is a perfect choice if you don't flash your ROM...and point number 1 shows that HTC Touch HD is outdated....so therefore get Omnia 2 if you don't flash your ROM....
Think about it mate.

a zooming ability on the video camera (while filming)
also, can it play divx/xvid movies like the HD can with coreplayer?
i download movies and dont have to re-encode them, just drag, drop, play. (...generally, unless there was some esoteric encoding used)
mark
I have the same dilemma. I am about to replace my Sony Ericsson W960i with a proper PDA and I am taking into account both, Touch HD and Omnia II.
Similarly I would like to have a Touch Flo 3d interface on my device and therefore I was keener on HTC Touch HD at first. However since it is possible to get a Touch Flo 3d onto all WinMo devices (as I deduced from 8525Smart's post)

I rather buy Omnia.
And here it comes to questions:
1. Are my assumptions concerning getting Touch Flo 3d onto Omnia correct?
2. Could anyone explain to me this ->

What does it mean to"flash your ROM" and how is it useful? Isn't it simply upgrading/updating the ROM?
I'd be grateful if you could help
well livegod guess what ! omnia2 has zooming while taking videos with its awesom camera
and the touch player can support almost 99% of all my downloaded and converted movies
as for the TF3D .. i love the new one and i cant seem to find it anywhere to be installed on my omnia2
i hate the widgets... makes the phone looks like a toy so i am using spbmobile shell + pointui
i'am from germany and I have the same problem.....
But here I can buy the Omnia in a few month....:-(
But what is whith the HTC LEO????????
Touchwiz 2.0 quite simply covers up WM 6.1 SO thoroughly on the Omnia II, it's almost like you're not using a Windows phone. The Omnia II is definitely the better pick unless you REALLY want ROMs to flash. Then wait for the Whitestone or Firestone or whatever HTC have next.
omnia camera is far better than the HD2
especially the video recording
the HD2 dont have a chance
but i dont care about the video recording so i will get the HD2
HD2, wins every time. You can flash what ever you want (when hspl comes out!), why would you ever want an omnia?
Hands down the HD2 (Leo). PPC of the year so far!
Samsung Omnia 2 place...
I'm a Forum XDA user for a long time.
It helped me a lot with my old HTC Wizard.
I was quite worried about buying an Omnia2 and losing the Forum support. But HTC HD cannot win O2 in SPECS.
About support... boys I have to admit.
For Omnia2 (that is not a HTC device) the best software and tweaks and amazing ROMs can be found on MODACO (sorry boys, but I have to say).
If you own an HTC device don't even consider getting there. The best place is here!!!
Concerning the TouchFlo3D, there are many versions available on MODACO. There's even a HTC HD2 like ROM with Sense 2.5
Thanks!

Help in choosing from 3 devices and 2 OS

Hi,
Currently have an Axim X51v with WM6.1 and want to replace it with a Smartphone. I'm on Sprint and I narrowed my search down to 1) Touch Pro 2 with WM6.1, 2) HTC Hero 3) Samsung Moment, both with Android.
TP2 would give me a familiar OS and stylus. It's also going to cost $100 more, and I am concerned with battery life and speed - it's got a slightly slower processor than Axim. Not sure if the screen is bright enough in direct sunlight - Axim's isn't. If I get it I woud probably get rid of TouchFlo3D and install iPhoneToday, PocketBreeze, Calligrapher and FTouchSL.
OTOH I have no idea about Android, I'm concerned that I won't be able to find a decent replacement to ListPro, Excel or PocketInformant, and syncing data may be difficult (my employer blocks Google Docs for security reasons).
So can someone educate me on what can I expect moving from WM to Android, and if either Android device is faster or otherwise better than TP2 ?

Go for the Samsung moment! windows mobile on tp2 swallows! It lags too much and the keyboard sucks unless you have skype the battery life is ok so is the screen. But the proccessor SUCKS! i would know from experience. it was rooted and would lag even with 6.1!
Plus android has alot more apps and flash player. And the moment has a keyboard which is a plus. The hero sense lags it at times so i wouldnt recommend it
I basically have 2 concerns - losing a stylus and thus the ability to take handwritten notes, and losing ability to move around documents without having to jump through hoops.
Also, have a question regarding multimedia capabilities - how would you rate Moment's ability to play MP3s (sound quality)

Qualitys good i played with one when i stayed at my friends house. Im not gonna lie the android music player has thee worst graphical UI though. Unless you get the htc music app running your stuck with a lame player. If you dont find it loud enough root it and install audio hack. Its 1.99 i think but its well worth it. If you get the hero root it too and if it gets slow use set cpu its free here but it costs on the android market. Let me know when you decide

YES! If you need the android apps, you can get them on the TP2, the keyboard is the best on any device i have ever tried and it isn't laggy, the sprint firmware can be upgraded to a customROM over at PPCGeeks and here in the RhodW forum
If you do want Android native, i would get the Evo 4G, not the hero or the Moment. If i lived in th US i would get one, but i'm in the UK
I hope you make the right choice
Good luck
OK, thanks both of you guys for creating an utter confusion.
I do a lot of work related stuff on my Axim and WinMob with all its limitations has many tools for that. The main ones for me would be PhatPad for notetaking with stylus (like having a book of Sticky notes with you at all times), Excel, ListPro for information gathering, PocketInformant and Pocket Breeze for scheduling, and so on. Going with TouchPro2 I'd retain all of these tools. But then it's 2x more expensive, and possibly slow.
Samsung Moment seems to be snappier, Android is from what I heard more fun to use, and I save some bucks. OTOH would I still be able to do all the stuff I did on WM with it ? Who knows.. in the end I'm afraid it's going to be a coin toss.
Would it be a true statement that Android on Moment is faster, smoother and has longer battery life ? Also, what about reliability - I've had 2 phones from Samsung, one was great, another one piece of junk.
Yee!
Sorry bout that haha. But the tp2 sucks trust me im a previous owner and i spl unlocked it. After every rom id try it start to lag sometimes needing a reset. For some reason wm is like running hero rom on the g1. Flies at first but it sucks after a while. And the tp2 keyboard is aight. I personally like smaller keyboaRDS. And the optical trackball and notifications bar is better on the moment but like the other user. The evo 4g is key to success! HAha
