Just wondering about CE 6.0 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

I was just wondering, is it possible to use the OS files from the CE 6.0 trial release and use it on the wizard? Probably a stupid question to ask though...
If it is possible, I have the CE 6.0 trial for someone to port though I'm guessing many of you already have this.
Thanks

ehhhh, you are not alone in matter...
some system files form winCE are useable in general , but nothing crucial, just some apps...
in other words i am curious too...

do you have C.E 6 or do you want me to give it to you? that is if you want to work on it of course
also, can you give me examples? would it mostly be the stuff that comes default in the SYS folder if you use the package tool on the rom?(games, remote desktop, windows update, etc.)
thanks

Post it someplace. I'd like to dump it out and take a look at it. Not sure I have time to really convert it right now but I"M sure someone might...

here is the link: ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]\Upload\C.E. 6.zip
link is working now
the only thing is, it isn't in the format you might expect. Or maybe it is. You will need VC++ on your computer and .NET framework 2.0. I don't know VC++ so I haven't even tried messing with it yet. That could change in a little while though.
just for good measure, i threw in the ce 6.0 platform builder sp1. please tell me if you need any other resources.
good luck!

WM6 Core (Non Beta) - Question

I'm trying to get my hands on the non-beta core, Windows Embedded CE 6.0 is what I would be looking for correct?
(Just trying to help out )

Hi,
Count me in, would be awsom!
Cheers, Leo
no it's not.
WM is BASED on CE it is NOT CE.
wm5 and 6 are both based on CE 5.0, but getting CE 5.0 will not get you wm5/6

So, then what am I looking for exactly? If it's not Windows Embedded CE 6 ... what should I be looking for?
EDIT:
I was just looking up Windows Embedded CE 6, it sure sounds like the base core for WM6? If someone could let me know, I likely can get the non-beta core.

Windows CE 5.x is the core for Windows Mobile 5 and 6. You should get MS Platform Builder for this. Windows CE 6.x will be for feature versions of Windows Mobile and Thin Clients, etc...
Eelco
Windows mobile 5/6 is BASED on CE 5, hence the 5.1/5.2 kernels.
Windows mobile source IS NOT avaliable on msdn (you don't think we've tried )
The ONLY people with access are OEM's and Developers.
HOWEVER!
As with all restricted data there is allways a leak somewhere
Most devs who might want PB/BSP's can get/have what we need allready, if you want for yourself then you have to look VERY HARD on the rest of the netz
Good luck!

Hmm...
Okay I'm not looking for the non-beta core myself. I wouldn't know what to do with it if I got my hands on it.
Every ROM that has been posted here as been based on the Beta Core for WM6 (to my knowlege). I'm just trying to offer to use my contacts to get the non-beta core if possible to help the community. I do have a contact, but I just have to point them to the right stuff 'we' are looking for.
If anyone wants it, or knows how to identify it, please let me know ... and I'll do my best to provide it if possible .

Well I wonder if I totally have the concept of how this actually works wrong. I was reading the MSDN documentation about the Embedded. Now as I understand it Microsoft distributes the Embedded framework to manufacturers and it's they who create the operating system for their hardware. So in essence anything that I get straight from Microsoft will be pretty much useless to Helmi, J and the others that are creating ROMs for us newbies (read: I'm a newbie) .
am I totally out to lunch? Sorry if I am, I was just trying to give back for all that I have leeched!

You would nee Windows Mobile Source which is not avaliable on msdn. Also a BSP (board support pack) would be needed from HTC.

The only reason I mention MSDN is for reference only. I realise it's not on MSDN. So lets stop pretending that I'm making that mistake . I use MSDN all the time for my consulting firms.
What I am trying to get for the developers here is the "Windows Mobile Source" that you mentioned above. The only reason why I am trying to do this is to get a newer (and hopefully non-beta core) to the developers that spend their time working to get us better ROMs.
Now, to put it bluntly, I have someone that I can contact to get access to neat things within Microsoft. Hopefully this is one of them. What I am really looking for is someone to give me the answer to the question: "What am I asking for".
I'd hate to ask for the wrong thing, bug my contact, and have nothing to show for it for the XDA community.
Hope that is a bit more clear
L
Oh i get you now Too many people with msdn subscriptions ahve seen CE 6.0 and come running with chants of "i can get your windoze mobile 6 source!"
The best i can tell you is to ask for the "windows mobile source tree" the right platform builder to go with it and as many BSP's as you can get your hands on (for multi device support)
However I don't think a public forum is the best place to discuss this... see my PM.
God, I love it when stuff goes covert

Cooking WM6 kernel

Hi Everyone,
first of all, english is not my language, so please be patient.
In my line of work, i usually have to develop some sort of embedded sytem, using small microcontrollers. Nevertheless somethimes this systems gets too big and i need to end using a Pc with Linux or paying windows xp licenses.
I found that CE is really cheaper.
How can i build my own WM6 OS for a mini-itx computer?.
I know this is out of topic, but i also would like to know how can this be built for the Wizard too.
Can i download somehow a Platform Builder for WM6 and build the OS?
I know that there was something like that on WM5, but i never tried it.
Thanks for making awsome roms.
I think with something like this you'd be better off contacting microsoft directly.
Drivers would be your biggest issue.and i believe only microsoft would have the manpower to develope these for you.
Post your question here. You may get more answers.

Cooking Help

Since all of you have made it so easy to understand the basics, I'm trying to cook!
I'm using the latest official Tilt ROM posted here, but I'd like to import the latest CE OS version from a different ROM. I don't even know if this is possible, but I figure someone would know how if it is.
If I extract the base ROM and the ROM with the target CE OS, how would I go about importing this OS into the Base ROM?
Someone at least tell me shut up Newb and read or point me in the direction I need to go. I've looked and the only thing I can find is some references to XIP being difficult to port.
Is this where the main operating system of the device is stored?
Anyone willing to help?

I think you just asked the single hardest question about cooking. The answer is there's no "simple" easy way to do it. Most of the files you're looking for will reside in the SYS\OS* folders. The really good news is that as long as you keep the OEM\OEMDrivers folder alone you can port pretty much anything you want from a similar device (Hermes, Polaris, Wizard, etc) and it should work on the Kaiser.
But it is *truly* a VERY slow process to port enough to make things work without porting so much you break it again. And when you have a ROM that won't even boot its a ROYAL PAIN to track down which of dozens of changes you might have made between compiles/flashes is causing the problem. In my experience it's usually something really simple like extra characters in initflashfiles.dat (from editing in Notepad), or some registry setting gone awry.
Anyway, good luck to you!

Android on HP HX4700 PDA (no phone)

Hi there,
I'd love to put Android onto my HX4700 so I'm trying to find if someone has compiled it yet. Any ideas / links?
I did a quick hunt and found this link
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=246201
There were a load on Google, but unfortunately most of them were broken... I think that the HX4700 has full Linux support, so ultimately Android could be ported, but I'm not too sure about it. I don't really know the internal Android workings.
sigh. i wish this topic wasn't so dead on the web.
here sits my lonely little hx4700 with no android.
what to do...
Please, guys!
Somebody needs to make an android rom for hx4700!
I have it here standing with crappy windows mobile on it!
Unfortunately, I dont know how to make roms but someone here knows...more of them
So, please ppl, screw windows mobile roms and start working on android.
I think its a lot faster than windows mobile 6.1
It has a huge library of apps too! It would be great-linux or android-anything but slow windows
Don't kill this thread-we NEED android
That would be SOOOO cool!!!
I started working on this a few days ago I'm new to the android build experience though. But I do have ubuntu booting up to the login screen, and Android crapping out shortly after running init.
I'm to upload a CF image for ubuntu as soon as dd finishes and tar has had it's way with the file. I do need help and I'm asking for your's drop by and check it out, test it and help me figure out the touch screen and mouse pad. After getting ubuntu to run on these marvellous devices android should become easier to do.

Thanks a lot @foolsh for making this rom, keep up the good work
HX4700 sous Android (Seems to be working !)
Hi !
I found this :
http ://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=316311
You need to understand Russian (or use google translator) but is worst the try !
Instructions to build an Android system for an HX4700 device are here:
http ://boneshaker.devio.us/hx4700/
In addition those instrucions make you build a 2.6.29 kernel. As I write those lines, it might be possible to build a 3.X kernel that should be best suited for those devices.
Sorry for the link but the antispam regulation forbid me to do better.
Pictures of the results are available on those sites
Enjoy !
PS: I'm currently working on building this kind of system for my device (without Haret). When it'll be done I'll post the ROM.

is there way to install apk on wm6.5

No. What a silly question.

a simple no its not possible would have been fine.
he was asking a simple question that he was un-sure about.
maybe silly question to you, but he wasnt aware so it was a normal question for him to ask.
That is not a silly question; asking if your phone works better with makeup on, is a silly question ; but not this one. That is the type of questions people need to ask so they do not mess up thier phone (though this would not screw up a phone). Everyone was a n00b once. Props for asking!
Anyways, as for your question, the simple answer is no.
Basically windows moible uses .cab files, they are written in windows code (c++ usually) and are packed and installed in a way that that is used by windows. An .apk file is simular that it is a package of files, however it is writen in linux code and stored in a competly different way. It is like trying to install a Mac app on a computer with windows; just can't be done. And since the coding and how the files work are so different, it is very difficult to port a cab to android and an apk to windows mobile.

Well, someone could port the dalvik-vm to win and then maybe handle the unpacking of apks and enhancing the win dalvik...like a VMWare Player for Windows Mobile (so it is possible to run Mac on a Win PC )...
If you're bent on having a certain Android app working on your WM phone, check to see if it's supported by XDAndroid - the project for porting Android to Windows devices. By running Android on your phone you can install and use just about any application from the Android Market. Right now, the Topaz, Rhodium, Raphael and Diamond have the most support.
