AT&T With HTC America! - General Topics

I just want to say up front that I love HTC products.
Here's what happened when I called AT&T about an exchange on my HTC 8525. I called told them that I loved the phone however the keyboard never has lit up which is a inconvenience when sitting in a bar trying to send a text & I would like to do a manufacture warranty exchange . I went through the verification & was asked if the void sticker was white or red, they asked if the scren was ok which it was. I was asked if it had been droped & if it had any gouges, I said it had been droped & the case was scracthed a little like any used phone. They said there would be a 490.00 charge if there was a gouge on the phone which the was not. I get the new phone & was having a problem with MEdia NET & it was brought to my attention that my bill would be over 600.00 when cows fly I told them. I then unlocked the CID & SIM went to T-Mobile & signed a contract with them. I saw the new Wing & asked if the OS would work on my phone & was told yes except for the WiFi & infared. Knowing there was a patch for WiFi & not using the Infared it sounded good to me. I e-mailed HTC America & this iis how helpful they were!
Thank you for your inquiry regarding ROM update.

We understand how important this can be. We manufacture devices for various carriers and each model have an individual ROM with carrier specific features. ROM available is specific to a particular model and cannot be used for another model. You cannot use the carrier branded model ROM update for your device. You need to use your model specific ROM update.
Currently, our developers are working with HTC devices and Windows Mobile 6 to determine what devices will be offered an upgrade. Unfortunately, there is no estimated time for availability. The ROM needs to be downloaded on a computer and the file cannot be run from a storage card.

Robert, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

All I can say is what jerks. I called T-Mobile & got the info needed. As soon a I use up my 1000 plus minutes I'll put the new SIM in & download the T-Mobile cab's. I'm buying the Wing or S730 seeing how I can getit for 299.00 after rebates. I'll not pay there 600.00 plus bill & I filled an AG complaint against the both of them. WHAT JERKS!

My Faves T-Mobile UK on unbranded handset

I've just tried this and despite the info on Howardforums. The numbers I enter on t-mo.co.uk wont register. Seems we need the Dash cab file or need to use a My Faves handset for initial activation.
H
I think the My Faves cab file (from a T-Mobile US wing rom) is called wispa_PPC_Atlas_Release-2-0-0-0.CAB.
I installed it to have a look, but my Trinity wouldn't start...so a bit stuck really.
H
where can i get the my faves cab file at thanks
If you could be arsed reading my post...you'd have a good idea of the answer. There isn't one for UK atm. If you want the US one...you can get it from the Wing extended rom. Freezes my phone on boot tho.K
T-Mobile shop have no My Faves handsets for me to borrow for 10mins...They've not been sent demo stock apparently.
T-Mobile CCR was very suspicious on the phone and made me sound feel like I was doing something criminal.
Their selection of handsets is poo quite frankly and they haven't bothered to offer software for they're own branded phones. Whole thing is a big brother style scam. There's no reason to have this authorisation style handshake with the installed app on the phone for christ's sake. They won't switch me back to Flext either...tho I have a 7 day cancellation policy in place so I can return upgraded handset (Vario III)...revert to Flext plan then re-upgrade again.
Pain in the buttox!
may i ask if you have been able to get myFaves to work on a non-myFaves mobile please?
thanks a lot

[Q] Help please!

hello,i'm a new member here and this is my first post.Since my Galaxy ace broke i'm looking to find a new phone and i think i'm going with the desire s.I found this guy on ebay who sells his used desire s as faulty and claims it can't make or receive calls inside the u.k but after i asked him he said that it will work ok outside the u.k.Is that possible or is he lying.I really need some help on whether i should or shouldn't buy this phone.Thank you in advance and sorry for my english!
Well you can try to ask the guy where, more precisely, the problem comes from...
If it's a hardware issue (antenna?), i don't think the phone will be able to receive or send calls, neither in the UK, nor anywhere else. On the other hand, if it's a ROM / settings / software issue, it will probably be possible to fix it by installing a new ROM...
However if you need to change your phone, it's just my opinion but I'd rather go to a more recent model like the One S or One X... Not the same price though I agree.
Hope this helps
It could be the stolen phone and blocked by networks in the uk

try flashing the newest Radio Image.
Flashing a new radio won't do a thing if the phone is registered as lost or stolen, which is going to be the case unfortunately.
EDIT: If you get the IMEI number from him you can check it at http://www.checkmend.com/uk/ for a small fee.
If it is not getting signal in the UK only then it is because the phone has been lost/stolen and the owner has rang up the network and they have put a block on it
I would say its stolen and the original owner has reported it to there provider who has blocked the phone.
If you buy it you could be buying stolen goods, mrbishi is right get the IMEI number and check it.

[Q] AT&T - Help Bad Situation

If anyone has a good relationship with anyone in management at at&t ... warranty dept ideally..... can you please pm me .... i need help.....
long story but in a nut shell i had a warranty claim involving charging port on my phone and it got misdelivered by post office .... second phone came and i was late returning it because it was lost in the return envelope somewhere... well they charged my account for $2000 dollars!!!
A representative of the warranty dept took over the case and we were doing great.... i assured her the phone had been recovered and was in
the mail. She took the situation by the horns and went to management and smoothed everything out.... until yesterday that is.... first- she told me to do nothing i.e. pay anything on my bill, until she got back in touch with me .... she cautioned this could take several weeks but that the charges applied to my account were serious and needed to be resolved before anything else transpires on the account... well yesterday tried to log onto
my at&t and check status and was still locked out so I placed a call to inquire..... get this .... its weird ... and i see why they would feel this way....
but while i'm on the phone i get a call from a young kid with latino or spanish accent indicating that he was terribly sorry but about two months ago
he received a package for me in the mail and it was a phone.... I was like theres the missing phone right.... well i told him i was on the way and
about ninety miles later and couple hours of trying to decipher his location I found him and recovered the device.... refurbished white one xl with 1.85 1.09 hboot... so i called back to try and locate my lady helping me and got customer service so i told them what had just transpired and i needed to be transferred to that dept... well she would only say that i needed to return the phone to closest location immediately...so i hung up...
got distracted as usual trying to run two businesses and buy another.... just four kids four dogs and a cat on a rainy day and it didnt happen...but i felt i needed to communicate with warranty dept... so anyway i woke up yesterday and my phone is cut off ....now this is not good for me trying to deal with banks for funding on a new business venture and kids and all. So infuriated i proceed to the local store with there phone and after a two hour ordeal with local manager and his support system we come up with i need to return the phone and sometime on or around the 1-17-13 everything will clear out and i can restore my service... well i blew up and told them to just close my accounts.. that was not acceptable...
Anyway the deal is although there way too expensive (my bill is never less than $250 , there still in my experience hands down the best...at least in this area.... and until now every issue i have they more than handle the situation... But i dont appreciate being treated like a criminal stealing a phone when i got up and went out of my way to recover there device. I had no responsibility to this device and had been cleared a month ago by the warranty dept who had confirmed by tracing the device that i never received it..... I also really dont appreciate my phone being turned off on a moments notice when i have done nothing but what i was instructed to do by there management.....
so im at a huge loss today on what to do ....
1- flash both devices to Straight Talk...?
2- send device back? and wait a week to be exhonerated of these charges and restored?
3- call attorney general and file complaint? hire lawyer with money i dont have?
4- do i have rights ? no rights?
I'm really getting sick of big corporations just steam rolling over the little guy.....ive already had a debacle earlier this year with sprint/google nexus that has all but put me out of business... and mother google is becoming the worst ally of a small biz owner ive ever seen ....between adwords and adsense....and there phone i'm in tight spot.....
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated........
Joe Adams
well first off team one X is a GSM device therefore it cannot be flashed however you can obtain an unlock code so you can use a straight talk sim card. Or you could even buy an AT&T compatible SIM from straight talk which does not require an unlock code. Secondly I would talk to supervisor or a store Manager and see if they can help you and your situation.
But whatever you choose best of luck to you on a second note if you get a straight talk sim you know you may get the error mm 6 device not authorized in which case means AT&T has your device on the lost or stolen blacklist

yea well im sending back one of the devices.... so hopefully they wont do that to the other one... im unlocked and rooted on one and about to unlock and root the other one and going to nearest straight talk... i cant go without a phone .... F atat

if you want to go to straight talk check out their website for GSM BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) @ straighttalksim.com and make sure you choose the AT&T Compatible SIM, You get the same coverage because it uses att towers, for a fraction of the price, however i dont know if they offer LTE yet or not so you may want to do some research on different APN Configurations and what not.
A Word about Unlocked just remember that the bootloader unlock and a Network Unlock are 2 different things, where you need the bootloader unlock to be able to use custom roms, firmware, and radios. You will need a network unlock to be able to use the device on another network that does not operate on att towers, some examples are T-Mobile, SIMple Mobile, Vodaphone, etc, etc

I talked to an Official Alcatel Rep/update

Well I work at a cell phone and my Alcatel rep came today and asked if we had any issues over the phone, I let her know about the idol 3, she had no clue about the phone. She said that , that phone wasn't meant to be sold in the US and that's why its unlocked and sold by amazon. So she said the updates would be thru the carrier which I have metropcs and she said that they might not push updates in the US due to this phone being for Canada and Asia markets. So the only thing we can do she said is complain to Alcatel directly and let them know its a big issue going on, if not then she said we won't get update. So if your looking for an update in the US its starting to look bad for our phones now.

I am not very hopeful this phone will receive a lot ( or any) of updates. I am not holding out for that. What we need is root. And once we have that, the rest of the job ( well most of it anyway ) can be taken care of by XPosed modules.
Having said that, your 'Official' Alcatel rep - when she says she has 'no clue about the phone' and that it 'wasn't meant to be sold in the US' and 'that's why its unlocked' , and 'sold by Amazon' - all that does not add up. The Alcatel *US* website ( not Alcatel global ) advertises this phone. I bought the phone from Alcatel US ( not Amazon - does not matter who shipped it ) . The Alcatel SVP had a press release from California about this phone - and being 'unlocked' appears to be their primary selling point. They shipped the phone in advance, in special press kits to multiple reviewers. If this phone is 'for Canada and Asia market' , then is it being sold locked there and supported by carriers as far as update is concerned ? And if she is your 'Alcatel rep' - then you telling her - does that not constitute 'complain to Alcatel directly' ?
My point is - it is one thing to say that this phone will not receive updates. But to say that no one in Alcatel knows about it and this phone was not meant to be sold here is carrying it a bit too far.

Your "official rep" doesn't have a clue what they are talking about. This phone was marketed and targeted towards the home consumer. That is why it is being sold direct vs through a carrier. This is also why features like fm radio are available since the carriers don't want that as it competes directly with the streaming services many offer. If it wasn't meant for purchase in the USA it would not have gotten FCC approval in the USA. Did you see it coming with an overseas 220v power adapter? No? Well then it was targeted for the USA.
As for updates....folks...give it a rest..the phone has been out for 1 month.
i don't care much about updates as long as we have full source and root.
asia? which part of asia? more like its the other way round.
when it came out the phone sites are all pointing to us n amazon.

It's not available in Canada (yet), I used my US amazon account to get it, so that makes no sense there.

That's not entirely true. I purchased the phone directly from Alcatel. If it wasn't meant to be sold in the US, then why are they selling it here? Considering the Alcatel rep didn't even know about the phone, I would not hold much credence in what she said.

Quoted for truth. She lost all credibility when she had never heard of the phone. Suggesting that phones not sold through carriers would be updated through carriers is counterintuitive... why would a company spend resources on optimizing a product that they do not make money off of?
It has band 12, obviously for the USA.
