Failed WM6 Update - Universal USB no longer recognised - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

I flashed my XDA Exec with Leo's V7 Videocall ROM which all appeared to go fine until I performed the hard reset to reinstall.
It rebooted to the white screen asking you to press 0 to reinstall or X to exit, so I pressed 0. The screen briefly displayed a 'clearing' message and then went blank. There is no further response from the unit from any input except when I try to hard reset the device and reinstall again.
Just soft resetting the device only continues to give a blank screen and trying to power on the device in a normal manner also only gives a blank screen.
Windows XP fails to recognise the device when it is plugged in via USB either at the hard reset screen or soft reset or complete power off (remove battery, etc) then power on.
I updated to ActiveSync45 prior to the first hard reset.
Does anybody have suggestions or ideas on how to un-brick this Universal?

seems broken DOC chip. how many years you UNIVERSAL

It's about 18 months old now.
What is the DOC chip and why would it only fail at an upgrade?

Try a re-flash
Hi have you tried re-flashing the device?
Enter BootLoader mode, hold Power & BackLight button & press Reset, this will show Serial or USB on the screen. Start the flash off again or try another Rom (maybe the one you have is corrupt)
Cheers,
Beat

Hi Beast,
Yeah, I stumbled across these instructions today (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Instructions for those stuck on Boot Screen) and will give that a go tonight when I get home.
Thanks for the suggestion - I'll report back once I've tried it.

jamver - did you charge before flashing your new BIOS? it can go blank just because the battery could be dying and despite seeing some charge in the indicator, in fact the batt would be exhausted.

Hi jamver, I also encountered the same issue as you a few months back. Symptoms sound similar. I tried the points described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=289325
Also, upgraded my bootloader and the device came back to life. One thing I learned also is that not all USB cables are made the same. If you find one USB cable doesn't work, you may want to try another. (my case, using a poor quality cable resulted in the "serial" word on the screen not changing to "USB")
Good luck and all the best!

Fixed
Thanks for the help guys. Manually putting it into bootloader mode and re-flashing it worked.
WM6 is significantly faster than any image of WM5 I've used!

hello,
i've ever meet this problem.. but after reflashing in bootloader mode all restart pefect !

NBD 7.9 & Boot problem

Hi,
I have installed ~2 weeks ago NBD 7.9 and everything was ok. Today I have restarted my phone to change my SIM card but my phone could not start.
I see HTC logo but phone freezes after having NBD logo and nothing happens.
As you can image because of could not connecting to the phone, I can not also update ROM.
Any tip to recover my phone?
Did you try a hard-reset?
Can you explain what exactly you mean? Probably I do not know what is hard reset on these devices.
Ok I have found hard reset on the page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WizardFAQ
But now there is no power also. I also could not boot anymore.
* Press and hold both the Comm Mannager Button and the Voice Command Button
* While keeping those two buttons pressed, press the Reset Button with your stylus
* After about a second you will be prompted for confirmation. Press the Talk Button to confirm
----
oh I see, you found it.
the hard reset set your phone to the "original state" of the ROM (in that case right after you installed your NDB rom).
what do you mean there is no power?
Could it be your battery is empty and needs to re-charged?
There is no response on the phone now.
I suspect battery is empty but when I try to connect power cord no response also.
If you are sure your battery is not empty try to get into the bootloader mode:
depending on the type (G3 or G4) follow the instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
especially step G3.2 or G4.2 respectively.

When I tried to connect to power while the phone is off it takes some seconds before response. Have try.
I have a G3 device (Vodafone VPA II Compact). But there is still no response.
I think it is power issue now. The bad thing is that I have only USB cable at home and the main power charger at work now.
Are there any way to charge with USB cable when phone is not open?
I would suggest following:
1. ensure your battery is full
2. do the hard-reset again - this may solve your problem already
3. if not, try to get into the bootloader mode (see the thread referred to above for instructions)
4. follow the instructions to re-load the ROM

I just tried ... while your phone is off the USB connection to the PC should provide you the current .. at my case the WIZARD starts to charge .. have a try.
----------------
the red LED light on the right above the display indicates the charging .. and turns green once it is fully charged, so in any case, you should see a light, although it takes 3-5 seconds after connecting to the USB.
Does it work?
I have tried and there is no light. As I remember before it was not possible if you are not connected via ActiveSync.
Anyway, I can try Monday at office.
Thanks for your help!!!
You're welcome. Good luck for Monday. Hope it will work out. Not much help yet from me but I will be around here.
This was driving me mad as well. I had to put it into bootloader mode (holding camera while resetting) and flash back to the Tmob 2.26 and then reflashing nbd.
The trick is to disable the HTC home plugin before you install any other apps. From what I understand its to do with some mysterious dlls.
I found this out on Friday and so far I haven't had any problems but I guess its still early days.
Good luck!
OK. It was a power issue and I could make a hard reset at office and it works again now.
I will try NBD 8.1 and see the difference.
Thanks for your help a lot!
good to hear it is working again!

Kaiser Task 2a - Bricked?

Hopefully I will get attacked for being an idiot, but if anyone can help it would also be nice.
However fun playing with mtty.exe and task 2a was I believe I have bricked by TyTN II. I have read many things and tried everything I can find, so if someone has any ideas to get a bootloader back please let me know!
Hard Reset of course will not work.
Soft Reset of course will not work.
Installing ROM from SD card so far won't work because can not go into bootloader mode.
If someone has any ideas besides melt it down please let me know.
ID10T Comments also welcome
Thanks

Saying that "it doesn't work" will usually not help finding the exact problem.
What did you do, what does the phone displays now, does it display anything? if yes, what.
When you plug your phone on the PC does the PC seems something connected over USB, or is it just dead ?
Did you install HardSPL originally etc.
provide details !
Press simultaneily power+camera+stylus, if bootloader not appear you have bricked your Kaiser.
See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344555&highlight=Task+2a

(sorry for my poor english)
More Details
Background:
I purchased an ATT unlocked phone from the US so I could use it in Japan where I live using the softbank AP and service. I already use an unlocked Hermes, so I thought it would be easy to install on the Kaiser with Chaimd's install files. I was able to get my boss's HTC to work, but not the ATT, so in order to provide Chaimd with the original CID I followed the instructions on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568
Once I did all that it seemed to work fine with the new ROM; however when I ran "info 2" for Chaimd he did not recognize the CID, so I may not have completely uninstalled the SSPL_Kais. I just got curious playing with Mtty.exe and ran "task 2a" (Before I read don't do it on Kaiser) and had the following dump in the terminal window:
Cmd>task 2a
Format ALL start
backup SPL OK
backup MISC configuration OK
SPL start start block=288, total block of CE=1760
ERASE block 1275 FAIL !!!
Write 0xFF start page=0x4800, total page=0x1B800
SPL version and MFG TAG are same, skip it.
restore SPL OK
restore MISC configuratoin OK
restore MFG configuratoin OK
Format ALL end
Cmd>task 2
Observations:
- The Phone will not turn on or off with power button (no lights change)
- When reset only is pushed or held nothing happens (no lights)
- When Power is held then the soft reset is pressed the green light on the left turns on and remains solid green. (phone will not respond to power button and green light only goes off after reset is pushed again)
- Camera + Reset nothing happens (no change no lights)
- Soft Keys for Hard reset are pushed with reset button (nothing happens. No lights).
- Bootloader's three color screen does not ever appear.
- The Hard Erase screen options for factory reset never apear.
- When battery taken out for a period of time then above tried again, nothing changes.
- Once green light is on it will not turn off until the reset button is pressed
- when connected to the PC the PC does see it, but doesn't know what drivers to use.
Tested
- Installing ROM from an SD Card
- Reinstalling ROM from PC, but without Activ Sync I do not know how to install a new ROM as per the instructions in the various installers.
- I have assumed that without the bootloader working that nothing would work, but I have tried
I hope this enough details for someone to help me find the next steps.
Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for the other postings. I do believe mine is the same as the First post.
At least the green light still lights up. Just seeing that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside

I think i posted in another thread that your phone is now in "Qualcomm Diagnostics Monitor" mode. Your SPL is no longer available and the phone falls back to this diag mode. There are drivers for this mode (i posted them somewhere) and certain diag actions can be performed with tools such as "PQST". However, to date there is no known way to flash it. It pretty much looks like u have a brick. The only way to recover is via JTAG. I'd say you better send it to HTC service.
Thanks
Thanks for your wonderfully unencouraging words jocky. At least I can stop reading and accept the "things I can not change..." Perhaps when I go to the states I can convince ATT to give me a new one - Who knows.
There are a few guys here who have jtag equipment and the necessary knowhow. I will have my own segger jtag in a couple of weeks. Drop me a PM maybe I can bring it back to life then.

SPV M3100 frozen

I know this is a bit of an old phone now, but I'm hoping someone might be able to help...
When I switch the phone on, it gets to the Windows Mobile screen and then just hangs. After a few minutes, it turns itself off.
So far, I've tried the following;
1. Soft reset
2. Hard reset
3. Remove battery, put on charge (red light), replace battery (amber light), hard reset
4. Removed battery for 2 weeks
5. Praying
6. Swearing
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thx
Bad Flash
Hi
You could try starting the device in bootloader in order to re-flash the ROM, or flash a new ROM. Methods for this are:
1) Press the soft reset hole button whilst holding camera button fully in.
2) Remove the battery, then re-insert it and switch the device on by pressing the power button but again ensuring the camera button is depressed fully.
3) Remove the battery and re-insert it. Don't switch the device on but plug it into a Windows PC using a USB cable whilst, you guessed it, depressing the camera button.
If you can get into bootloader (three coloured screen with some yellow writing) then you can probably reflash the device. It sounds like a software problem not a hardware problem but I could be wrong on that.
If you can't get the device into bootloader mode you have a problem that is more complicated to fix, about which I can't advice.
Best wishes

Hi,
Thanks for the reply....I couldn't get your method to bring up the bootloader to work, but tried pressing Power and OK while doing a soft reset.
This brought up a screen with 4 horizontal bars - red, green blue & white. Text at the top says;
HERM100 (text in white)
IPL-1.01
HERM100 (text in yellow)
SPL-1.04
In the white bar is the word 'Serial'
Does this sound right?
Then it just hangs on this screen - is there something else I am supposed press on the phone, or do I do something via my laptop with activesync etc?
Sorry for the additional questions, but I've never had to do this before.
Thanks
An update....
After noticing that 'No GSM' appears on the splash screen, I have now found this page which I think might answer my questions.
I'll have a go at this tonight

Possible Corrupted flash?

Hey all,
I need some help. The other day my touch cruise was working fine, but I wasnt able to connect to the network, and I thought it was time to do a soft reset. After soft reset my phone has now stopped working. It is stuck on the screen that says:
POLA100
SPL-3.13.0000
CPLD-2
The screen has 4 color bars on it, in this order:
RED
GREEN
BLUE
WHITE (SERIAL OR USB)
Every time I reset the phone it quickly flashes the screen with a messege that I believe says "No Image Found"
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Thanks for all your help guys in advance!

A quick update...
I have managed to get back into the phone. I plugged it into the usb, and of course it would not recognise it. However, after it was plugged in I held down the camera button, and the power button and pushed in the reset button, and vola the phone restarted back to normal. I have not lost the operating system or anything. I am not sure what will happen if I turn it off. So I plan on backing it all up and then trying to turn it off and on.
But if you have any answers to this problem please let me know as I am not sure what i have done.
Thanks again guys
Matrixum
Update:
Ok everytime I turn off my phone I go back to the tri color screen. The only way for me to get back into the phone is if I plug it into the USB and hold down the camera button and hit the soft reset. Any ideas?
I guess nobody has had this problem? I must be the first! Seriously.... Well I still have the problem, each time I shut off the phone and turn it back on it goes to the tri color screen. I have to do my combination of camera button and soft reset in order to get the phone to start properly. I dont loose any information, but the phone is now running very slugish at times.
Once again, any help would be great... Unless I am really the first one to run into this problem.
Thx,
Matrixum
Hmmm... I have no idea what could the problem be.
But I have some questions:
1. What OS is/was on your Polaris?
2. Have you managed to backup your data via ActiveSync or other means?
It looks to me like you're stuck somewhere in the upgrade process. But I'm not sure, just guessing.
I'd recommend flashing Polaris with official ROM.
Be aware that you'll lose all your data on device.

Htc Touch Pro frozen in soft reset mode.

Hi, I am STUCK!! My phone (HTC Touch Pro) gets stuck in the soft reset mode. I was able to get it to the tri-color screen, but could not get any further than that. Tried to follow some directions by going through the connections and settings, but it could not find the usb port. I need help, if you could get me past this so I could reset my phone, that would be great!!! I am brand new at this and know nothing. Thanks, Nikki
My red screen says:
RAPH800
SPL-0.36.0000
MicroP-Hermann (LED) v0C85
Green screen says:
MicroP-Hermann (KEY) v0685
PSOC-Raph STAGE_EVT v20
Nothing is in the blue screen
Thanks for any help!!!
try to hard reset it, check it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2643414 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2525584

Have you flashed anything to it? I'm not that familiar with cdma devices. If the hard reset doesn't work, then try taking the battery out for a while, then putting it back in and hitting the power button. If nothing works, and you haven't done any flashing, just take it back for an exchange.
how to run rom when HTC pro is frozen, won't boot or cuts on n off
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
****DOn't take battery out after hard boot***
1.just watch videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk56olMkCtU and do what they do but dont take battery out. LEAVE phone STUCK on BOOT screen. Nothign else will move or work but you want phone just like that.
2. connect usb cable to active sync. (this may not link up but leave usb connected anyhow) Do not delete phone profile.
3.use rom like Download MightyROM6_Herman.exe avail at: http://www.lilrico.com/Mighty/mightyromblog/?p=454
4 although active sync is still attatched but may not be connecting. It will connect thru usb anyway when you run the rom software. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV2I2WAFkg4&NR=1
This worked and kept phone from cutting on and off. and restored ROM. don't know about original htc boot. but your phone will work under this rom for now and you can go from there.
