Windows Mobile Device center (Vista) and Sync problem - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Hello! It seems I have the first question with my XDA Exec…
It connects to the PC without problem and I can see it on Windows Explorer (Windows Vista). But synchronization (through Windows Mobile Center)… only completes on the first connection.
If I disconnect from the PC and connect again, most of the times the “Sync” begins but never ends. In these cases, the only solution has been to erase definitions (both on the PC as on the PDA); if so… the next time I connect it does not have the problem, but of course I have to define again what I want to synchronize.
Forgive me if there is already some forum on this issue, I looked for before placing but I did not find.
Some solution? Many thanks and regards from Portugal.

am also having the same problem .. any aid please ?

Same problem here too - device connects, charges, shows in explorer but when WMDC tries to connect the device continues to charge but drops out of explorer.
If I find a solution I'll report back here, meanwhile can anybody save me the heartache?

Vista Sync Problem
Which version of WMDC are you using?
I am using 6.1.6965 and having no problems. Alternatively, go to the network icon in your task bar after connecting your PPC thru USB and repair connection. This should resolve the problem

I had a similar problem, I reverted to 6.0.6783. Although come to think of it I think this was particular to an app I use, that refused to sync using the later version of WMDC.
Might be worth a try though.
Has anyone applied SP1 yet? What version of WMDC do you end up with?

I seem to remember unticking (and maybe reticking) the "Enable advanced network functionality" on the "USB to PC" applet on "System" tab of Settings.
Can't remember if that's what fixed it.

hey guys, the main problem if ur using an antivirus/internet security or firewall it will be blocked!!
u need to configure ur antivirus/internet security or firewall to allow and solve the sync problems

This fixed it for me too, which is interesting given that the general advice is to *enable* it if there are problems syncing. This is definitely what fixed it for me - the device now always syncs on my recently reforatted XP machine whereas previously it was intermittent (which is odd because I'd never experienced problems before, but hey, it's fixed so I don't care any more)

Managed to solve the Problem
Hey there guys,
I seemed to be having the same problem anj just solved it...
1 Remove the Enable advanced network functionalty check from the USB to PC connection settings "Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC".
2 Make sure that the Mobile Device is connected via USB to the PC.
3 Install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (either 32bit or 64bit, I installed 64bit)
4 Open Control Panel on the PC and run Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
5 At the bottom of the application you will see Mobile Device Settings, and within that you will see Connection Settings. Open the Connection Settings
6 Make sure that the second check box named Allow connections to one of the following is checked, and that the Drop Down below is changed to COM 1 (or which ever COM Port your Mobile Device is connected to via your USB cable) and save the changes
7 Disconnect the Mobile Device and Reconnect and hopefully it will work for you.
I realise that this solution might not work for some, but it did work for me, and hopefully it will work for others.

Wrong forum mate
I understand that you do not own an HTC Universal (Universal not means all HTC devices!, it´s a model. One of the best by the way)

Sync Problem
1 Remove the Enable advanced network functionalty check from the USB to
PC connection settings "Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC".
2 Make sure that the Mobile Device is connected via USB to the PC.
3 Install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (either 32bit or 64bit, I installed

you.
I already done all the instruction, disable the firewall and antivirus, i also go to device manager too to update the driver/device, but still couldn't connect. Anyone can help me please.

How did you resolved the issue???? I have an Iolite which does not synch (connects only as a guest), keep getting the message "there is a problem with your connection........"
any help will be appreciated

Even this is a legacy thread there are some people out there (including me) still using Windows Mobile devices (but also using WP7 ...).
Had exactly the same problem and in my case just using another USB cable did it! It seems that WM devices are a bit "fragile" when using a not 100% perfect USB cable

Windows Mobile Device Center woes

I recently flashed my ROM from WM5 to WM 6. Thank you XDA. The problem I am having is now my Vista Computer won't connect with my MDA. Before the Flash it snyc fine. I uninstalled WMDC and reinstalled it and nothing. WMDC is aweful, Active Sync is great. Help maybe it is some kind of trick to get Vista to recognize it again with the new flashed WM6.
make sure you are using Active Sync. ver 4.5.....?
with some roms you have to uncheck the box "USB-PC" Found in settings/system/or sometimes found in connections,"USB-PC" and uncheck Enable advanced Network functionality. Then try and Sync
I can't use Active Sync with Win Vista. Any other suggestions..?
Then restore Vista to when it was working.
I'm also having trouble with Vista Ultimate (x64 and x32) and my Wizard (Octavoi's ROM)
It sees my device for a few seconds and then it closes.. The WMDC doesn't see my device at all...
The Event Viewer shows the following:
Windows Mobile-based USB device is plugged in but is unable to make a network connection to the desktop.

Does anybody know how to solve this?
I've tried to uncheck the 'Advanced Network Functionality', but that also doesn't seem to work.....
Firewall could be the culprit.
Check your settings in your firewall. If you have Windows OneCare that would also interupt your connection with WMDC. But with any firewall program make sure that it allows or is in the trusted mode for any Windows Mobile Device.
I have Windows Live One Care but I don't think that's the problem.
I turned it off and tried to connect... without succes
But I'll give it a try again this afternoon.
i'm the other way, i went from vista to xp at work because of stupid autocad 2008 problems (don't get me started) and i prefer wmdc over activesync.. i have ver 4.5 and i have issues like it sometimes will randomly disconnect or won't complete a sync. other times i have no issue though. I never had a problem on vista with wmdc.
when i first hooked up my pda in vista it would load the driver in vista but, wouldn't connect, turned out it was loading an older driver and i manually updated to the newest one and just like that it was connecting, later i downgraded the driver to be able to update the rom and it was still working.

Try this :
Go to device manager in Vista
While connecting your wizard the device manager should refresh and add a 'MS Windows Mobile Remote Adapter'
Now right-click that adapter and choose 'uninstall'.
Vista will add the device again and soon after WMDC should connect.
At least it worked for me...

Can't connect to Windows Mobile Device Center

I can't for the life of me get my touch dual to connect to the Windows Mobile Device Center on my vista machine. I've tried everything -
1. uninstalling and reinstalling USB drivers
2. uninstalling and reinstalling WMDC
3. hard resetting my device
NOTHING works!
When I connect, all I get is "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it ...."
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've called Dell, HTC, Msft. No one knows. I am totally frustrated b/c I can't flash my device with a new ROM or even just move files to my device.
HELP!
Did you install SP1 on your vista machine ?
My phone was syncning perfectly up until i intalled SP1 2 days ago.
I also tired the 3 things you did. Fortunately after the hard reset i discovered that the phone WILL syn using the BT connection, just not via usb
try this. Open task manager on your PC (ctrl+alt+del) and kill wmplayer.exe (windows media player process) reconnect your device. See if this helps.

@rostol - no, i'm don't have SP1. it just says Windows Vista Home Premium.

Update: I can connect via bluetooth now, but still not USB. Grrrrr ....
I had a similar problem. I have ESET Smart Security and Vista SP1 installed and found that, with ESET's firewall actively filtering, I am unable to sync. I set ESET to not filter while the phone is plugged up and all is well.

1. Keep the WM device connected.
2. Go to Start > Start Search.
3. Enter Device Manager or devmgmt.msc to launch the Device Manager window.
4. Look under the Network adapters node for Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter. If this is not present, skip to step 5. Otherwise, right-click Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter and choose to Uninstall.
5. Look under the Mobile Devices node for Microsoft USB Sync. If this is not present, skip to step 6. Otherwise, right-click Microsoft USB Sync and choose to Uninstall.
6. Disconnect and reconnect the WM device. The device driver for the PPC Phone will re-install and Windows Mobile Device Center will launch.
Did you try this?
Go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC > Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"

SYNC no longer recognized

Ok I am no newbie to this, but I am sick of the frustration that comes with this problem. I've had me TC for a couple months now and it will not be recognized with my PC. I've had this problem before.... deleting the partnership, changing the USB ports and settings, downloading the newest sync software, and shutting down the fire wall, yet nothing works. The only thing I can do is use Bluetooth, which is to slow to transfer files. I need some help here, because even backing up everything on the phone and doing a hard reset takes too long to restore what I have on it now.
try to unmark ->settings->connections->usbtoPC-> enhanced network functions.
sorry, i have a german one, so look for that function.
I have the same problem with my o2 xda orbit 2.
I found that if I turned off the bluetooth and wifi it connected ok but even that seems to have stopped working now.
I got it back
I shut off the windows firewall with Vista and it works every time now. This is odd since I always had it on before and never made a change to the settings. In fact once I had given permission for windows mobile center to run with the security I never had this problem before. All I can say is it is a serious pain to disable it every time I want to access my files on the phone.
the joys of activesync......
I'm running XP-Pro on both my home and desktop PC's
with my orbit 2 I have no problem connecting at home, but failed miserably at work (other than the first time after I'd installed activesync).
I'd concluded that it was my firewall settings (which are outside of my authority to alter) we're the cause of the problem and gave up.
What usually happens is an activesync connection is established (I alway click on cancel in the first box - because I don't want to sync files etc, just to be able to explore and install software), and then when I click on explore (after it says connected) it just hangs for a minutes or so, before disconnecting.
However, I hooked up my Orbit2 to my laptop in my hotel last night (to charge) and I noticed that I could explore. OK I thought, it was the firewall.
But then today I tried exactly the same thing, and we're back to the non communicating version.
Any ideas,
Any ways to force activesync into submission - even if just at the explore level?
Thanks
simple joys
Well Vista doesn't use active sync, but I'll try to give you what I have learned. First it always helps to have the latest version of the software. I'd delete active sync from the computer and end the partnership on the phone. The phone then says to hook it up with a computer to establish a connection. Before you do restart both. Download newest version from windowsmobile, install and restart again. Disable firewall and any antivirus ( it makes a difference ) and try to establish the new partnership. If that doesn't work sometimes the comm ports are wrong and you have to find out which your phone uses. Once I had a Moto Q9h unbranded that would not sync with USB no matter what I did from the start, but it would work with a bluetooth sync. That was the worst speed ever. Anyway Good Luck.
Thanks,
yes I am using the latest (for XP) active sync.
I also uninstalled it / re-installed it
I also deleted the profile
All to no avail
Virus / Firewall settings are locked on this laptop.
Same problem
I'm using vista, uninstalled and reinstalled the last version of ActiveSync, deleted the partnership and the phone does not not connect to the pc. I dunno what to do .
p.s. : firewall is off.

You said you updated active sync, but Vista doesn't use that program. You need to use Windows mobile device center. If you go to windowsmobile.com there is an update you can download that you install with the phone connected. That might work.

You have to delete every time, because once it is synced with one computer it establishes a relationship with that pc or laptop. The two operating systems use two different programs, but really the computers should have the partnership saved. I'm not sure if the phone can have two as well though.

HTC Touch Pro - Active Sync with Vista via Bluetooth

I love the phone but I cannot believe that its so hard to sync with Vista via Bluetooth. It has the latest mobile software and vista is the new OS, how can they **** things up so badly?
I know there are some issues with the Sony Vaio Bluetooth stack. Its super confusing and the Bluetooth settings are hard to find.
Is it actually possible to Sync with Bluetooth to vista from WM6? Has anyone got this working?
Thanks, even a yes or no would be great here, so that I know if I'm wasting my time.
Ben
I did. After connecting my TP to the PC via bloetooth, i synced them, but using the phone's ActivSync, and not the Windows Mobile Device Center.
You need to go to your phone and instruct a "bluetooth activesynce".
It worked fine for me and my Vista SP1, using a dead-cheapo USB-bluetooth adapter.
Got it working too. Paired the 2 devices and entered passcode. Then started AS on the phone and selected Connect using BT and off it went. No problems what so ever.
Its good to hear that it works for people.
I think its an issue with the Sony Bluetooth stack. I can pair the devices but the device doesn't show that the laptop has activesync, just wireless stereo. I think I might hate Sony more than Microsoft, Mac next time for sure, so so sick of Vista and spending a week online working things out.
Its a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone has it working on a Sony Laptop with Vista?
Thanks for the replies and listening to me moan.
Indeed, having the same problem with Toshiba Bluetooth Stack. No Activesync profile when searching for available profiles. Is the any solution on how to add the "Activesync profile"?

I had the same problem with my VAIO TZ and my Tytn II, didn't try with the TP yet.
Apart from replacing the drivers, I seem to remember there was a trick related to changing the COM Port or something (the default port was incompatible with Activesync) but I'm afraid I don't remember. I'll give it a go when I have time to connect both, but it may not happen until I getmy new laptop.
EDIT: forget the above, that's the trick I half remembered (and used): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397419

If this is the case, try adding comm port for both your laptop and tp. Outgoing for TP and incoming for laptop. Then you need to set Windows Mobile Center to connect via COM?? (?? is the number you've chosen)
ActiveSync connection (via bluetooth) is actually a comm port connection.

Try removing the pairing and rebond.
It also works fine for me with Vista (non-SP1), newest version of Mobile Center, and a Bluetooth dongle with Microsoft stack.
This worked for me
I used many websites, a lot with very similar advice, but none specific to the HTC touch Diamond conundrum.
However, this is a very useful step by step guide:
http://www.inspectmygadget.com/2007/05/31/how-to-connect-your-wm5-device-to-wmdc-via-bluetooth/, which although provides advice for WM 5, is still the same principle.
The advice below is device specific
I use:
HTC Touch Diamond (with WM 6.1)
WMDC 6.1
Bluesoleil V6 Bluetooth Dongle
Although I had found the above advice on previous websites, and it had not worked I remained persistent.
I was able to find 'Activesync' as a service when, on my PC, changed the WMDC connection settings to COM 3.
However every time I tried to 'connect via BT' on my device, it said 'no partnership existed......'.
I therefore established some more com ports on my computer (in addition to COM 3, COM 4, COM 5 which I had taken authorisation off of):
COM 6
COM 7. Both without authorisation.
I then used the trial and error method to find which com port would broadcast 'activesync' to my device. It was still COM 3.
However, on trying 'activesync via BT'on my device this time, it began to connect!!!
I am not sure whether opening up the extra ports (COM 6 and COM 7) or whether my computer/device decided it was now the time to play ball since it realised I was about to take a cricket bat to it worked but it now syncs fantastically.
NB: There was no need to reinstall any software or windows operating system (as some other posts on other websites have suggested)
I still cannot get this to work. I couldn't on my Sprint Touch and now I can't on my Touch Pro.
I have Vista Home Premium SP1 with WMDC 6.1
Computer was formatted to factory settings today. Touch Pro is new as of yesterday.
I paired the phone to the computer and the computer to the phone. ActiveSync was a profile available for the computer and I made sure it was ticked.
I plugged in the phone via USB and set up the partnership. All is good there.
When I open ActiveSync on the phone and click "connect via bluetooth" it tells me it cannot open the port.
This is the exact same problem I had with my Touch. The computer is newly formatted and isn't communicating with any other bluetooth device at all. How can the port not be available? I've tried the regedit. Tried making incoming ports on the computer. No avail. However, I cannot make new outgoing ports on the phone. The tab is there but no option to do so.
Any help?
Thanks in advance
EZ Solution
I just found an easy solution for u guys who using Toshiba Bluetooth Stack ...
U guys no need to remove anything ...
All u need to do is verify the COM port of ur bluetooth ...
1. Go to the “Bluetooth Local COM” Applet in your Control Panel
2.Open “Bluetooth Local COM” applet where you will see a list of Ports
3. The Corerct port you need to use is
“COM7 Toshiba BT Port (COM7) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(TOSHIBA LocalCOM)]
and not “COM6 Toshiba BT Port (COM6) LocalCOM-Client”
From this guy here ... << http://thinkabdul.com/2006/10/12/tu...c-via-bluetooth-with-toshiba-bluetooth-stack/ >> TQ sir ...
Then ... u guys need to use ur REGEDIT to find this ...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
Notice there is SerialPort ?? yes ... JUST CHANGE THE string 'Bluetooth' to COM7 ...
After this just pair ur wat ever PDA u've got & thats it ... u got the ACTIVESYNC in the advance option of the services available ...
Hope u guys enjoy !!!
P/S :- BTW i just bought my HTC TP 2 weeks ago ...
woks perfectly!!!
many thanks.

wierd problem

hello my htc touch pro does not connect with activesync but the phone works perfectly
usb?
bluetooth?
tried other usb ports if usb ?
tried another computer?
yes i have tryed all tha no differance it will not work with active synce i tryed a hard restaand all what i could think of
1. check the manual
2. get newest activesync from microsoft
3. check settings (connection - usb to pc)
4. keep in mind, that it does not work with vista (at least it's not that easy)
5. if all that does not help, google or post again... we should find a solution
Also, do you synch another phone on this same computer? XP/winmo hasn't previously allowed synching two mobile devices. However i see they are offering a mobile "suite" that will help with this. (at winmo site).
When i first got my fuze i went thru this very same thing. Because my kaiser was already being used on the same computer.
yeah my kasier syncs fine
You should backup your data and upgrade your ROM. Which one are you using now? My experiences says it may solve a lot of troubles...
had this same problem a while back. make sure you don't have activesync on your computer looking for the old partnership and try going to settings>connections(tab)>USB to PC and unchecking "enable advanced network functionality" or if that is unchecked, try re-checking it.
