I have used a Magician (Qtek S100) daily for years and its been a great phone.
I now use skype as a home phone and want a newer HTC device that supports WiFi so that I can use it at home as a cordless phone.
Used as a business phone daily for calls/ contacts/ calendar and also for mp3/ webcasts from the memory chip.
Must be the same size as the S100 as the others are too big.
1) Which new models do you suggest?
2) Does anyone use Skype over WiFi from a HTC device? How is the performance?

Hi All,
Excellent forum, been watching for a while now as original XDA owner. XDA is now defunct after many months happy service (Save the provider!!) - Really didn't do enough with it!
Firstly, got my XDAII and took it out wrapper - Played..
Now time for the serious stuff:
1. Ran BluetoothGPS - Fantastic, why can we not see more of this type of app on XDA? However, ran into a couple of problems:
- Setup all connections (LAN, serial, etc) and seemed to work fine with laptop with BT Dongle (TDK Class 2 & latest driver set)
- Replaced \windows\startup BTTray shortcut with new one for BTGPS, soft reset....
Yet still both systray icons come up......
And Activesync won't work through the defined serial port....
I'd really like to start using BluetoothGPS, but I need Activesync to work... I need the other functionality i.e. LAN etc which the current MS BT stack doesn't!!
Is there a way to completely remove the MS BT Stack and make BTGPS the only stack? Is it a regedit or a ROM cook that needs to be done?
Has anyone done this? Hows it working......
Oh, I bought a stowaway keyboard too... (Required for the size)... and O2 bundled their o2-g2 headset for nowt.....
Here is the problem:
Once you install BluetoothGPS, it will totally override all the MS Bluetooth services; meaning, no more Activesync or SSA; I think headset still works though.
Also, you cannot use the Activesync or SSA that is provided by the hacked software (or at least mine didn't work).
Please someone, find a fix. This is an awesome stack!
HI,
I have been trying to connect to the internet on my Jam but via a Bluetooth connection to my Sony-Ericsson K750i.
I need to do this because my company pays the bill on the SE phone and I don't want to have to pay to download my email!
I can connect successfully from my old Palm (which I don't use anymore), from my laptop (which I don't want to carry) and from an O2 XDA Exec (tried in an O2 store) but not from my Jam.
Is anyone else able to do this? Or is it a restriction of Windows Mobile 2003 SE?
Thanks in advance
xerxes
How about putting the K750i sim into the Jam when you want to check your email? That should work.
That does work but I'm trying to get my Jam to automatically connect to the phone and download my email every 60 mins.
Also, I'm interested to know whether PPCPE 2003 SE has been limited in some way to prevent the user from making a connection via an external phone.
I've also noticed that I am unable to dial over bluetooth from Pocket Informant, while my mate's Ipaq can dial my phone with no problems.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I can tell you what, though. WM2003SE does not have a limitation you're thinking of. At one time I was successfully using my girlfriend's Nokia 6681 as a BT modem for my Magician, taking full advantage of the EDGE network. It was working fine. The sad part is that it doesn't now for some wierd reason. So it can work. But for now I have yet to figure out (again) how to make it work. Maybe there is a conflict with some software, like that A2DP patch. But I think I tried it also right after a hard reset. No go.
I also tried it after a hard reset - with no better result.
I was wondering whether it might be an issue with Bluetooth on the K750i as I know it also has a problem with some headsets but if you have seen the same thing occuring with a different phone I guess it must be a PPCPE problem.
use pocket bluetooth tools
I've been using this software for about 4 months, and it works fine for my mini. I'm using a nokia 6255 bluetooth modem cdma as a bluetooth modem cause the internet rate is cheaper than gprs
I tried searching for my question but wasn't sure what to search for.
I have 5 devices that I need to sync to my media center pc. A blackberry pearl, a 4705, an MDA, a dell dj and a pioneer lnno xm radio. I for see an advantage coming to.
The software for each device is installed.
When I connect the blackberry activesync opens. I can connect the MDA and everything is fine but if I connect the 4705 connecting the mda becomes sketchy at best and after 2 or 3 times something is not going to sync usually the mda.
I am using AS 4.5.
I mentioned the MP 3 players because at times when I try to go into one of the windows mobiles after connecting one of the mp 3 players through my computer by clicking mobile device, its anybodys guess what combination of napster and active sync will open.
Sometimes nothing happens. Anybody have any ideas ?
I use ActiveSync 4.5 and have five devices (all Windows Mobile) associated with the same desktop (iPAQ h2210, h4350, HTC Magician, HTC Universal and Ubiquio 501). All will sync flawlessly, provided you take care to actually synchronize only one device at a time, that is, make sure you remove one device so the Active Sync arrows go from green to grey and it is fully disconnected before attempting to connect another device.
The same happens if you are syncing music via Windows Media Players ActiveSync conduit to your mobile devices. Your non-Windows Mobile mp3 players should not be affected by this however.
I also have three Palm devices which sync with the same desktop using HotSync, and assorted mobile phones with their own sync software (Samsung, Nokia etc.) and have not had problems with interactions between them.
Hope that helps!
You also have to remember you should have used different sync names for different devices. If you have the same sync names, that will definitely cause problems.

I have been using wm6 for a fair while, i think an early j wrights version.
I now look for a version which supports tethering either by usb or bluetooth preferably usb since it means the phone is being charged as its being used. Even with an extended battery power consumption is high.
I would prefer to tether and connect with ubuntu or at worst windows2000
my preference with the universal would be sdhc support
excellent bluetooth support, currently its a pain in the ... #
fully featured possibly video calling.
as bug free as possible
my current rom is quite good apart from occasionally deciding it needs a password to unlock- dispite not having one set.
I'd like to hang on to my text messages if at all possible.
any advice please
regards
john
ps any good java runtimes available for uni ?
I am upgrading to an incredible when it comes out and i will have a touch pro that i won't be using. Is there any thing worth while to use it for after it is deactivated? any cool "hacks" that would make it worthwhile to keep around? Or do i wipe it, reload stock software, and sell it on ebay?
install win95 on it xD
sell it of...you could make 150 if its in good condition
You should send it to me, and I would give it a good home It is like a dog....
If you confused what to do with your Touch Pro, give it to me
I think it will be good if you can use the Touch Pro as a wireless keyboard for your Incredible. Incredible doesn't have a hardware keyboard, right?
Or, maybe you can use it as your 'iPod' to listen to music or hmm...
I hope I can get the HTC Universal to be my scheduling and working tool because of the big screen & keyboard (Office Mobile, PIM, tasks, calendar/appointment, e-mail) and my HTC Touch Pro for music, games, camera, etc. Also with exciting HTC Sense 2.5
It would be awesome to make it a dedicated device for something else. (maybe a portable gaming system or even a utility)
Get G-Remote and/or Salling Clicker on it and together with a cheap bluetooth dongle for your PC, make it a dedicated remote control. Especially with G-Remote, you 'll have everything you need -- music & video control, file explorer, remote keyboard, even a nice joystick/wheel
That's what I tried with my old TyTN, and it works beautifully ! I imagine it would be even sweeter with a TP and its G sensor.

Just power it on and then turn the phone function off. The fuze doesn't require a sim card to use the other features, just the phone features.
