Active Sync-ing multiple devices - General Topics

I tried searching for my question but wasn't sure what to search for.
I have 5 devices that I need to sync to my media center pc. A blackberry pearl, a 4705, an MDA, a dell dj and a pioneer lnno xm radio. I for see an advantage coming to.
The software for each device is installed.
When I connect the blackberry activesync opens. I can connect the MDA and everything is fine but if I connect the 4705 connecting the mda becomes sketchy at best and after 2 or 3 times something is not going to sync usually the mda.
I am using AS 4.5.
I mentioned the MP 3 players because at times when I try to go into one of the windows mobiles after connecting one of the mp 3 players through my computer by clicking mobile device, its anybodys guess what combination of napster and active sync will open.
Sometimes nothing happens. Anybody have any ideas ?

I use ActiveSync 4.5 and have five devices (all Windows Mobile) associated with the same desktop (iPAQ h2210, h4350, HTC Magician, HTC Universal and Ubiquio 501). All will sync flawlessly, provided you take care to actually synchronize only one device at a time, that is, make sure you remove one device so the Active Sync arrows go from green to grey and it is fully disconnected before attempting to connect another device.
The same happens if you are syncing music via Windows Media Players ActiveSync conduit to your mobile devices. Your non-Windows Mobile mp3 players should not be affected by this however.
I also have three Palm devices which sync with the same desktop using HotSync, and assorted mobile phones with their own sync software (Samsung, Nokia etc.) and have not had problems with interactions between them.
Hope that helps!

You also have to remember you should have used different sync names for different devices. If you have the same sync names, that will definitely cause problems.

Intellisync or Active Sync?

OK - so ive downloaded intellisync and installed it but for some reason it doesnt want to comunicate with my PC or XDA - any ideas
Was it not meant to run on a XDA I or am i just dumb?
The reason why i switched is because of MS AS inability to actually copy all of my inboxes, absolutly pathetic IMHO
is IS any better?
It would get half way through and then disconnect itself, then i ahve to power on and off again (my XDA) and it would get hung on the same spot - or email i guess, where do you find the settings for IS? adn what wizard should i be using?
I switched to IntelliSync as well because I could not get ActiveSync to connect as anything but guest. No problems with connecting to my XDA (make sure that the IntelliSync PocketPC portion is insatlled), works great from home and work. I did have problems using with my PC mainly because IntelliSync does not work with the new outlook versions (I think 2000 or 2002 is the newest it works with).

does xda2i and mac work together

can i sync my xda2i and powerbook, tried to download activesync from microsoft on my mac, but it did'nt do anything.. don't know why
?
any ideas
activesync is a Windows program not an OS X program
If you want to sync the two you will need either a program called PocketMac or a program called MissingSync. Both are extremely buggy, are considerably expensive, have awful support, and can't do a fraction of the things that ActiveSync can.
I personally would only advise trying to sync a mac with a Pocket PC if you have the necessary tech skill, but others may disagree.
Personally I use MissingSync, which does the job but not reliably. [/url]
Has anyone been able to get ActiveSync to install in Virtual PC? On mine (VPC 7, Windows 2000) it always dies at 92% installed, and just stays there indefinitely (left it all night).

Active Sync 4.2 (All Phones)

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync42.mspx
Active Sync 4.2 Beta Preview is now out !
ActiveSync 4.2 Beta Preview is an early look at the latest sync software release for Windows Mobile devices. Microsoft ActiveSync provides a great synchronization experience with Windows powered PCs and Microsoft Outlook right out of the box. ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Windows powered PC and Windows Mobile powered device, enabling the transfer of Outlook information, Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications from your desktop to your device.
In addition to synchronizing with a desktop PC, ActiveSync can synchronize directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 so that you can keep your e-mail, Calendar, Notes, and Contacts updated wirelessly when you’re away from your PC.
The ActiveSync 4.2 Beta Preview delivers new features to improve the synchronization experience for customers. Support for ActiveSync Beta 2 Preview will not be available from Microsoft. Limited peer-to-peer support is available with opportunity to provide feedback from the following site: ActiveSync 4.2 Beta feedback.
Because this is a beta, the ActiveSync 4.2 Beta Preview should not be used on production systems in mission-critical environments. ActiveSync 4.2 Beta Preview supports PC sync via USB cable, Bluetooth, or infrared connection.
Damn, still no wifi sync to stand alone PC. I still miss this from Activesync 3.x
Al
MS said that wifi network sync was removed for security reasons, so I can't see them putting it back in, though I do wish they would. Palm have this aspect much better sorted in my opinion.
I have been told using a few extra steps it is possible to Sync overwifi, but it means using usb cable, then removing it , etc and having wifi on. If you guys want I can test it out and post if it works.

.1
I'm hoping it cures my will-not-sync-with-desktop-PC-even-with-Sygate-disabled issue I'm having.
*heads for the downloads*
EDIT: Nope. I've followed all the instructions here, and opened up all the IP addresses that the ActiveSync connection creates, and still the only way to connect is to terminate the Sygate Firewall Service itself.
Why did MS switch to TCP in the first place? Bloody stupid idea
Interesting, my kit now works with Win2k SP4, whereas previously the connection would keep dropping.
ActiveSync v4.2 beta working well on my notebook. Actually, it solved rare v4.1 problem, on "explore" where it does explore my hardisk instead of PPC.
Regards,
Arto.
I note that although it promises to sync Notes via Exchange, the option is not present. ANd in the testing I've done just now, it still gets stuck part way through sync forcing disconnect and reconnect.
I hereby predict they'll get it right in 4.5 or so, just like they did with AS 3.x. Ho hum.
a little off the topic but try this to fix your over the wifi sync with WM5+AS4

anyone know if Activesync 4.2 solves the problem with you having to soft-reset the HTC Wizard after every sync, just so you can sync again?
I think the later version of the Wizard ROM (1.69.xx, 2.18.xx +) already solve that restart problem. I seldom restart my unit since 1.69
So what exactly is new in AS 4.2?

That's weird. I've been using ActiveSync 4.1 for several weeks, and never had that problem...??? I plug in my USB cable, AS starts up immediately, email, phonebook, notes, etc are all synched quickly, and the world is good. The PC and MDA (my HTC Wizard) become a bit sluggish during parts of the sync, but I have never had to reset either device in order to be able to go on, work, sync again, etc.
4.2 still does not solve my issues with ActiveSync - after my computer's booted, the rapimgr.exe process eats up all my CPU time (sometimes almost 100%), and won't sync. The only solution I found is to repair ActiveSync, then reboot - then it works, but at the next reboot it goes back to 100% cpu time.
Nothing new for me in 4.2, it's as crappy as 4.0 and 4.1 !
could be some program blocking it
like zonealarm it could block the process
from starting others causing it to deadlock
imho it sounds more like a problem with the setup
then with AS
If you say your firewall manually, that the applications rapimgr.exe, wcescomm.exe and WCESMgr.exe in your AS Folder are allowed to connect to everywhere all works well!

Blackberry Connect Version 4

Well, just got hold of the Blackberry Connect Client V4 and installed in on Windows MObile 6. Install is fairly slow, but gets there in the end. Took a while for the BES to send all my messages across, but calendar, contacts and notes syncing is working well. Less painful than the HEX edits etc that people use to get older versions working.
Oddly the device now turns itself off when power gets below 30% - maybe theres a way to change this. Alos, due to my corporate IT policy I don't see a blackberry browser in the blackberry software. Anyone know how or if its possible to install one? Apparently with V4 you can use the MDS server for mobile data as with the blackberry device.
BTW, got the client, desktop manager and manuals etc from http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=225
Now if I could just get MDS working ...

BB Connect - Desktop won't connect to device
I was trying to get my Universal to connect to the Blackberry Connect Desktop for Window Mobile Devices. I followed the install guide and from what I can tell it seems like active sync is still blocking the device from talking to the blackberry software. When I disable the USB connect option in activesync the device cannot be seen from the laptop at all.
I am using BB desktop software is 4.0.0.17 and BB connect software on device is 4.0.0.67. Active sync is 4.5
My understanding is you has to activate using the desktop method and it can not be done wirelessly. I did try wirelessly and I get Service: "not connected".
Any help or ideas are appreciated.
Blackberry Desktop Manager USB Driver
Wrong forum, sorry
on some devices you have to go into the registry and change the AKU to 0.4.2 can someone verify I am scheduled to pick up a Universal this week and need bbconnect capability

SYNC no longer recognized

Ok I am no newbie to this, but I am sick of the frustration that comes with this problem. I've had me TC for a couple months now and it will not be recognized with my PC. I've had this problem before.... deleting the partnership, changing the USB ports and settings, downloading the newest sync software, and shutting down the fire wall, yet nothing works. The only thing I can do is use Bluetooth, which is to slow to transfer files. I need some help here, because even backing up everything on the phone and doing a hard reset takes too long to restore what I have on it now.
try to unmark ->settings->connections->usbtoPC-> enhanced network functions.
sorry, i have a german one, so look for that function.
I have the same problem with my o2 xda orbit 2.
I found that if I turned off the bluetooth and wifi it connected ok but even that seems to have stopped working now.
I got it back
I shut off the windows firewall with Vista and it works every time now. This is odd since I always had it on before and never made a change to the settings. In fact once I had given permission for windows mobile center to run with the security I never had this problem before. All I can say is it is a serious pain to disable it every time I want to access my files on the phone.
the joys of activesync......
I'm running XP-Pro on both my home and desktop PC's
with my orbit 2 I have no problem connecting at home, but failed miserably at work (other than the first time after I'd installed activesync).
I'd concluded that it was my firewall settings (which are outside of my authority to alter) we're the cause of the problem and gave up.
What usually happens is an activesync connection is established (I alway click on cancel in the first box - because I don't want to sync files etc, just to be able to explore and install software), and then when I click on explore (after it says connected) it just hangs for a minutes or so, before disconnecting.
However, I hooked up my Orbit2 to my laptop in my hotel last night (to charge) and I noticed that I could explore. OK I thought, it was the firewall.
But then today I tried exactly the same thing, and we're back to the non communicating version.
Any ideas,
Any ways to force activesync into submission - even if just at the explore level?
Thanks
simple joys
Well Vista doesn't use active sync, but I'll try to give you what I have learned. First it always helps to have the latest version of the software. I'd delete active sync from the computer and end the partnership on the phone. The phone then says to hook it up with a computer to establish a connection. Before you do restart both. Download newest version from windowsmobile, install and restart again. Disable firewall and any antivirus ( it makes a difference ) and try to establish the new partnership. If that doesn't work sometimes the comm ports are wrong and you have to find out which your phone uses. Once I had a Moto Q9h unbranded that would not sync with USB no matter what I did from the start, but it would work with a bluetooth sync. That was the worst speed ever. Anyway Good Luck.
Thanks,
yes I am using the latest (for XP) active sync.
I also uninstalled it / re-installed it
I also deleted the profile
All to no avail
Virus / Firewall settings are locked on this laptop.
Same problem
I'm using vista, uninstalled and reinstalled the last version of ActiveSync, deleted the partnership and the phone does not not connect to the pc. I dunno what to do .
p.s. : firewall is off.
no sync with xp and vista
hi
I see that Im not alone...Isync my polaris with my personal pc (vista 32) and with my professional pc (xp pro).
my rom is Aserg (many rom tested before like Bepe....same PB)
its impossible to sync both pc. I have to erase partner ship each time I want to sync.
Im not sure, but I think that windows 61 is responsible. Is that possible ? thank you for helping me !

You said you updated active sync, but Vista doesn't use that program. You need to use Windows mobile device center. If you go to windowsmobile.com there is an update you can download that you install with the phone connected. That might work.

You have to delete every time, because once it is synced with one computer it establishes a relationship with that pc or laptop. The two operating systems use two different programs, but really the computers should have the partnership saved. I'm not sure if the phone can have two as well though.
