best rom for tethering - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

I have been using wm6 for a fair while, i think an early j wrights version.
I now look for a version which supports tethering either by usb or bluetooth preferably usb since it means the phone is being charged as its being used. Even with an extended battery power consumption is high.
I would prefer to tether and connect with ubuntu or at worst windows2000
my preference with the universal would be sdhc support
excellent bluetooth support, currently its a pain in the ... #
fully featured possibly video calling.
as bug free as possible
my current rom is quite good apart from occasionally deciding it needs a password to unlock- dispite not having one set.
I'd like to hang on to my text messages if at all possible.
any advice please
regards
john
ps any good java runtimes available for uni ?

[Q] bluetooth mouse and keyboard

I am interested in using the G Tablet as a thin client computing device. This would give me ultra-portability and all-day battery life. It would allow me to keep my personal life on the tablet and use remote desktop for business stuff. This way personal and business life coexists on the same device without security concerns. This isn't going to work though unless I basically make my tablet into a netbook.
I've done some research on bluetooth devices but don't have a working bluetooth mouse or keyboard yet, which is the reason for my post.
I have a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and so far have not been able to get it working. I tried VEGAn 5.1 and it connects but doesn't pair. I installed BlueInput for Android and couldn't get the mouse working with it either. See teksoftco.com for info on this app. It is supposed to add bluetooth HID support to Android 2.1 or newer.
I don't have a bluetooth keyboard yet - not worried about that until a mouse works.
I ordered a case with built-in USB keyboard and it is adequate. A clip blocks the mini USB port though, so I may do surgery on it to move it down a bit. The case is from witglobal.com.
Any suggestions on what ROM to work with to achieve my goal? Any other info from someone who may have this working?
I don't want to use a bluetooth device with a USB receiver - It'll just get lost or broken and be in the way. I have a dock and I think that is going to work out for my desk - just working on the mobile part.
BTW I really like the 2X Client for remote control. Only thing I am disappointed in so far is the audio doesn't seem to work.
Thanks All!
I have cyanogenmod 6.1 working with a HID mouse - no add-ons. Caveat now is getting the market working. I installed it per wiki instructions but no apps show up...off to more searching!
I use my Zpad (Malata T2) for exactly your purpose.
I guess the Zpad ROM supports this out of the box?? (I'm running the stock ROM).
My mouse is also the Microsoft 5000 Mouse (little white and black one). My keyboard is off ebay, here is the link (except I have the black one):
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/UItra-FLat-B...Peripherals&hash=item255f52af24#ht_3488wt_907
I use Xtralogic (by far the best RDP client)
At saying that it's not 100% perfect. Here is what doesn't work:
Delete Key
Ctrl C or V etc
Right Mouse Button (you can emulate by a long left press)
Mouse Wheel
Some special characters like; < > ^ ~ ` and probably others
Wifi & Bluetooth have issues working together, but 3G and Bluetooth is fine
I'd pay for a driver that fixes this if anyone knows of one.
Cheers, Mal

[Q]Phone7 as Wirlessstick/Router

Hello Xda-Developers,you´re the guys i think who are the most capable developers of wp7-World
my whish, suggestion, question is: Would it be possible to creat an app or alternatively a setting where i can preperare my Wp7 for 1. to act like an usb-wirlessstick for my desktp-pc with the current runnning router and 2. to let it act like as if it´s itself an router, taking it´s connection from 1.the usb-cable 2. the wifi 3.the Dataconnection?(i know that the last point is already done by thetering available atm and that i can use my Omnia as a modem ,but this is not satisfying the way it runs!!!)
Here are my reasons for why i wish the points so how discribed:
1.0:Because atm only by dataconnection of my net,but my housewalls are very thick so i have most times no connection, but router always running with good signal
2.1:Because when it´s connected to pc and the dsl-modem has wifi so that for e.g. my brother or a friend can connect with his netbook
2.2:So for e.g. that if a friend is there i can give him a shorter wifikey and not the routerkey
2.3:Just to complete the app/setting
Last Point: give it a nice livetile
Last but not least it would be nice for all of us Wp7 users

[Q] USB PC connection sharing

Hi all.
Been trying to find a solution on net, but no success.
How to share my PC's internet connection (WiFi) with p6210 via USB? Stock OS, fresh Kies installed, Win7.
Supposedly there should be a "tether via USB" option in settings--wireless and networks, but there is none (also WiFi off on tab).
Remember this was no-issue on much older Android devices.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm not sure if it's the same but I have a P6200 and there is an option on Wireless > Tethering & Portable Hotspot. The tethering via usb is on gray and not clickable unless I connect it via usb of course. There is also bluetooth tethering.
Nope.. don't have that option. No built-in tethering, and also the best rated tethering software didn't work in any mode. But thanks for the effort. Obviously Samsung decided that I do not need that feature. Is it the Samsung, or is it the path Android is taking? Just thinking aloud here, don't get me wrong, but I'm getting frustrated. Monstrous specifications offering basic functions and fancy animations. I'm no expert by far, but have a feeling that my old Diamond with WM and lot of work from some great developers on this forum, could do magic. Isn't Android supposed to be an "open" OS? More and more it looks to me as a machinery for making money by pointing consumers in a profitable direction and limiting hardware capabilities of anything but cheap devices. I imagine buying a branded computer where the manufacturer decides that I really do not need all those options of the OS. And OS manufacturer allowing it.
But maybe this is just bit of frustration after a hard day. Anyone feeling offended, just disregard this post.
Windows can't share internet over usb - get a lan to usb connector from ebay, that will solve you're problem

[Q] amplifier pop

I'm giving this thing a trial run as a desktop replacement. As such, I keep the dock jacked into power, LAN, USB hub, HDMI monitor and a set of desktop speakers pretty much all day. There are several things that really kill Android as a true multi-tasking device suitable for this type of work, but nothing is as annoying as the audible POP you hear when the internal amplifier turns itself on and off. I'm assuming this is a power-saving mechanism which makes sense, but it drives me crazy! I typically do not notice this sound with headphones... only powered external speakers. Anyone experience this and have a work around? I'm thinking my only option is to switch to USB audio.

The popping sound would be annoying, but I'm interested to hear about how the rest of the experiment is going. Is there anything really important that you can't do, or can't do well enough with your current set-up? I ask because with JB and the CleanRom and some browser tweaks, this thing is way faster than either my work or home desktops (not top of the line, mind you). I'd love to make it do more for me...I think it's capable of a lot. Oh, are you printing from it, too?

I'm using this thing for everything from e-mail (mix of gapps and exchange), RPD into client computers and basic word processing and spreadsheeting. I started this experience after the JB update w/ a factory reset. I haven't re-installed the printing solution yet, but before I wiped ICS it appeared PrintHand was promising. My biggest complaint so far is the lack of a window manager or even basic dual head support in order to utilize my wide-screen HDMI monitor for true multi-tasking. Floating apps are nice, but there is a limited selection and they are really not a true solution anyway. Other than that, just getting used to a different work flow is the biggest challenge. Check back sometime end of this week or beginning of next. I'll post my complete findings in the General forum.

Excellent!
Thanks. (Ran out of thanks for the day) I'll hit you up in the General thread.)

Comparing of Android Q/10 "Desktop Modes"

Hey there!
As many of you may have heard or even tried, there is a functional "Desktop Mode" built into Android 10 (as long as the phone vendor didn't deactivate this). This mode will, when manually activated in the developers options, act like an Desktop OS when connecting your phone to an external screen. (or without activating anything in case of e.g. Samsung DeX)
I'd like to use this Thread to gather some information about the implementations of "Desktop Mode" into the phones of different vendors, and hope you can support me with testing it out on your phones.
Things of interest are (IMHO, to be continued):
is the desktop mode working (and usable)
does the dpi setup change in the moment of connecting an external screen (or does everything look just awful big)?
(yes, I know there are apps/tools to change that)
which maximum resolution is possible?
how many screens are possible? (usually just one, ...but who knows)
do you just need an USB-C to HDMI/DP cable or a (special) docking station for connecting a screen? (if using a cable, Miracast/wireless is another option of course)
does the handset get a special 'role'/feature in desktop mode? (like Samsung devices becoming a trackpad)
are there any usage improvements implementated, e.g. like file drag'n'drop or dragging windows to the display sides to maximize them on half the screen (like in windows)
what's the connection speed of the USB-C port? (USB 2.0, USB 3.2 G1 (5 Gbps), USB 3.2 G2 (10 Gbps) or even faster!?)
is it possible to use USB mouse/keyboard or just Bluetooth, and how's the speed? (eg. does BT lag a lot?)
At the moment it seems like Samsung has the best implementation of this feature with their "DeX Mode", but i'd like to know about those things from other vendors also.
My dream is to be able to ditch my notebook/tablet/8in tab/subnotebook collection an use just one device in future. (everything else needed for 'bigger' or x86 tasks can be done on cloud instances already)
But for that purpose there needs to be more than just 'basic' OS UI without any useful features
Hope we can start a good collection here and answer also your questions regarding this topic(s).
Thank you, regards
Schwarzer Riese
