[Q]Phone7 as Wirlessstick/Router - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Xda-Developers,you´re the guys i think who are the most capable developers of wp7-World
my whish, suggestion, question is: Would it be possible to creat an app or alternatively a setting where i can preperare my Wp7 for 1. to act like an usb-wirlessstick for my desktp-pc with the current runnning router and 2. to let it act like as if it´s itself an router, taking it´s connection from 1.the usb-cable 2. the wifi 3.the Dataconnection?(i know that the last point is already done by thetering available atm and that i can use my Omnia as a modem ,but this is not satisfying the way it runs!!!)
Here are my reasons for why i wish the points so how discribed:
1.0:Because atm only by dataconnection of my net,but my housewalls are very thick so i have most times no connection, but router always running with good signal
2.1:Because when it´s connected to pc and the dsl-modem has wifi so that for e.g. my brother or a friend can connect with his netbook
2.2:So for e.g. that if a friend is there i can give him a shorter wifikey and not the routerkey
2.3:Just to complete the app/setting
Last Point: give it a nice livetile
Last but not least it would be nice for all of us Wp7 users

Fastest method of remotely connecting PDA to PC?

Hi, I wonder if anyone could advise me here?
I am looking at buying a PDA (have been looking at a TyTN 2) it´s main use will be for connecting to my PC when I am away from home.
I have tried an iphone with logmein ignition which was OK but I prefer something with buttons I can press rather than a touch screen!
The most important thing for me is that I need the fastest possible program to connect the two devices. In your experience what would be the fastest method of connection? would an off the shelf application like logmein be fast or is there a faster method like a dedicated VPN tunnel or such like?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Connecting with a view to doing what?

Welcome to the forum
If you trying to connect to a remote computer from your PDA the best way is logmein (At least for me)
If it´s to connect PDA and lap top in the same place use WMDC or Activesync
Hi
I don´t need to control the pc at home. My partner will be at home and will be working on the pc. I will be in a different city or country. The PDA will be linked to the pc through wifi or 3g and at certain intervals I will need to press "enter" which will then activate "enter" on the pc. In effect I will be using the PDA as a mouse.
The important factor is the time delay between me pressing the button and it registering on the pc. I want this to be as close to real time as possible.
Any suggestions what would be the best way of setting this up?
Many thanks
I use realvnc to connect to my computer that's running ultravnc. Its in real time and allows me to do just about anything i need to do remotely.

Will this work?

Will this allow the HD2 to make wi-fi n phone calls? To some this may be a goofy question but if this item is windows as the HD2 is & I connected them both with an adapter would this allow the HD2 to make wireless wi-fi n phone calls? It seems a simple idea but my knowledge is short at my age.
If it doesn't why not? I haven't left windows yet & I'm so close to getting another phone & I just want to make sure what TMO phone to get. TIA.
No, the adapter is for windows operating system not windows mobile.
Thanks but if I did connect the two what would happen? Nothing?
Just trying to find a way to make the Leo wi-fi call. Thx.

This item is just to connect a laptop or PC to an existing wifi network. The only way it could be used in a connection between an HD2 and a computer is if you have the HD2 setup as a wifi router and you connected the pc to that....which is pretty much the exact opposite of how you would need the connectivity setup. But, it's still all kind of moot...that adapter won't do anything to enable voip calling on the HD2
Thank you sirphunkee, to do a proper reserch I just ordered an HD2 for .01 at Amazon a few minutes ago. I figure if I have the phone it would be much easier to find a way to solve this problem. Besides for .01 what am I going to lose.
Agreed your answer being moot is correct I do agree. Thanks.

[Q] WM 6.5 - 'Charge Only Mode'

I am looking for a tweak\tool\registry hack (if possible) to have a Charge Only Mode for Windows Mobile 6.5 if at all it is possible. Most of the times, I am at office using my HD2 (Dual boot with 6.5 and DarkStone Android ) connected to the Laptop and it would be great if I can just connect it to my laptop without choosing either of the three options
1. ActiveSync
2. USB Storage Mode
3. Internet Sharing
P.S : I did lot of search for this option but was unable to find it and hence started this thread...but I will be more than happy if anyone can redirect me to an existing thread if any, for the same issue.
When your phone is charging off the laptop do you actually use any apps on it?
I'm like you in that I spend 2 days a week with my phone charging from the laptop, but I never use it for anything other than phone calls, so selecting disk drive does the job for me.
Any apps I'd need, I'd make sure were installed on the device.

Better use the active sync or the mass storage mode..As it is you wont be needing to install apps on your memory card thanks to the massive storage of the HD2 compared to the older WM devices...This shouldn't be a problem IMHO...
Cheers.
Ive got a really easy fix for this, just use a different cable, you can get cables or adaptors that will charge only and wont sync. When you want to sync just change the cable or take off the adaptor.
btw... such an adaptor is only £2.50 from amazon for my phone

This doesn't stop the action as such, but when you connect your phone to PC, with the 3 options you listed, there should be a a check box at the bottom "Don't ask me again", so whatever you choose will automatically happen next time (choosing USB storage will therefore not ativate ActiveSync/Device Centre on your PC. This can also be found under Settings->Other (miscellaneous settings)->USB to PC (see attachment).
Or, just use a wall socket charger?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies ! The reason I asked this question is because I do not have a Data Plan on Phone. I only use Wifi at home and office and Active Sync kills it. Data storage mode won't let me use the Storage which I kinda need (Don't ask me why? ) and ofcourse Internet sharing Mode just sends the phone into a crazy 'Connecting 3G Network'...loop.
Anyways, I think using the Charge Only Cable should do the trick for now..But I still feel that this mode will be helpful for few rares like me...Love tis mode in Android.

ActiveSync does not kill my Wifi - make sure the 'Allow wireless connections on device...' is checked under File->Connections Settings. Also ActiveSync should allow your phone to use your PC's internet connection (pass through) anyway.
The other thing to try is to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSsync as if you've never synced it before and when you next connect it it will ask you to set up a relationship but click cancel and - viola - should now just charge.

No "Allow Wireless Connection on Device" option. I am using Windows 7.. Not sure if it is present in WMDC.
ActiveSync Passthrough does not work..I am on a encrypted network with authentication based Proxies..whole bunch of them.....
I do not want to kill the ActiveSync relationship since it syncs everything with my PC.
I think I am bothering a lot over this stupid requirement.. so I will just close this thread (If I can) but if I find anything I will post it here, for someone else who might be in similar situation.
Thanks anyways...XDA rocks !!!
Similar issue like mine

Bluetooth connection

Hi there
I have an "issue" on my device.
I'm on marshmallow (yep I know.. but) ^^
On first attempt to connect to any BT-device the connection will be unsuccessfull, the second one will work as intended. That wouldn't be a problem is the system would try to connect to ALL my listed BT devices, one after the other one.
I develop BT speakers as hobby. I have about 15 BT devices listed.. you can imagine the frustration I have when I have to wait 5-10min that he succeed to come back to the first one I tried to connect -.-'
Does anyone knows how I can force connect to one specific device? I feel pretty stupid, but I didn't found any settings for my BT

Mac Address keeps changing on Dragon Touch X10 [rooted]

Hello XDA-developers,
I bought a new tablet a few days ago and have a slight problem regarding the Mac Address. It keeps changing after turning on wifi every time.
I found mutliple answers to similar problems but they didn't work for this specific tablet.
Now, I need to know if there is a way to change it to a static Mac Address, it uses Lollipop 5.1 and I rooted it using KingoRoot for Windows.
I just made some search for myself and found a file called "setmacaddr" (without extension). I don't know if it's just a thing every tablet has or if it is the problem.
If you need more information about the tablet, don't hesitate asking me!
Sincerely,
Marvin
EDIT:
I rooted this tablet because it had the problem when it was not rooted. I needed to root it for the methods I tried till now. (Like I said, they didn't work)
Hello, it's me again,
does anybody have a clue at least what I can try to do?
Would help me very much!
Solution:
I solved the problem in a slighty different way.
I know this is not the best way but maybe someone just needs a similar solution!
I bought a USB 2.0 -OTG ethernet adapter² and connected it with the switch next to my pc, which is connected to the router. Thus, you are able to have stable internet connection without minding your MAC-Address in most of the time (like 99,9%). Of course, your tablet only gets internet while plugged into it, so you may only do this if your tablet remains in nearly the same place or if you are able to quickly wire it different.
² can't post the link to the product because I'm a new user. Any USB-2.0 OTG ethernet adapter should work, it just needs a micro usb otg plug.
