Need advice on a new PPC

Hi all,
I've currently got an O2 Exec (jasjar) and looking to replace it...
Any ideas of what I could replace it with, that may already be on the market or some time in the near future.
Thanks
depend on as with everything really as in what you are looking for
utms
keyboard
cam
gps
sd, miniSD or microSD
big screen
small screen
no screen at all
smart phone, pda phone or wired phone
........
more or less all the features of the jasjar +
nice big screen
umts
decent cam (2meg+)
qwerty keyboard
It's been 2 years since I last thought about getting a new PPC, so I'm a bit out of touch, is there anything on the market that exceeds the jasjar or something soon to be coming out?
any ideas?
The HTC advantage looks nice...
if you can live with the size of it yes
if you find it a bit big then maybe TyTN
If you're not in any really BIG hurry, you should look at the HTC Kaiser which will be coming out in the next couple of months. . . hopefully.
Thanks for the replies so far.
I went into the T-mobile shop yesterday to have a look at the ameo.....as nice as it looks, it's just tooooooo big. My universal is big, but the ameo was just on an another level :-s
I like the look of the Kaiser, do you know if it can take HDSD cards?
Are there any plans to release an update to the universal?
regards,
just had a quick search and found the Omni, but nothing concrete....

>>> Htc P6500 - Don't Buy This Crap !!! <<<

Hello everyone
yesterday i' ve receive the htc p6500
since X7500, i was expecting some big screen device and i yhought that P6500 would be a good choice
but NO WAY !!!
it's the greatest peace of ch*** i've ever had
even Qtek 9090 was much much better
i will not comment the size and the weight because it 's normal for a 3.5" screen device
BUT ....
it is the most bulky device i even had, bab plastique, buttons sound like breaking plastique
and more for a professional device, the plastique are slick !! (oposite of the kaiser's back)
applications:
No touch scrool
no htc recordfer
no htc streaming
>>> NO BARCODE READER !!!
no htc album
>>> NO TOMTOM TASTER !!!!
no 20pad touch keyboard
no radio fm (apparently there is a fm radio that will be provide in italian rom)
no smooth backlight sleep (the back light switch of after the preset time instead of going down )
BUT OVER ALL :
>> CRAPPY SCREEN !!!! back light not powerful enought, we can see all pixels, and white turn to yellow ORRIBLE !!! I NEVER NEVR SEE SUCH A BAD SCREEN IN MY LIFE !!!
> CRAPPY SOUND !!! it's unbeliveble !!! the sound is the worst i ever ear, even a 50€ nokia phoen has a better sound !! my kaiser has a cristal clear sound in regard of the p6500 !!
and more:
the case provided is just good to clean the floor , need to buy the official hts case in expanys (more15€)
THER IS NO VIDEO DRIVER IN THIS DEVICE !!!
don't search, my kaiser with ariginal rom , lot of apps installed works better than the p6500
i test last version of core player and the same video run much much better on kaiser !!!!!
Hopefully , i can send it back and have my money back!!!
SO i don't understant why HTC make this PDAphone
and i understant why there is no review in internet !!
F*** HTC
bummer man hope you can get your money back i love htc but i think we need to stop buying there crap till the shape up
HTC is top in features & technology but its the worst in speed & overall quality.
The 6500 is a business phone, its ment to come with minimal features, it can then be customized by the client for use by field reps ect. If you bought it expecting a Tytn or Touch it's your own fault for not doing a basic google search.

i did some google search
i found an italian good review, it seems quit good has a kaiser with big screen and no keybord
but i was expecting somme minimal feature as on Kasier (tomtom taster, htc streaming)
but overall ths is not realy a probleme
the great problme that i wasn't expecting and that NO review has report is :
The crapy sreen quality and the crapy sound quality !!!
For 750€ i could expect better even if it's a PRO pda phone
what is unbelivebale is : how could it be that kaiser has a so good sound and screen pour 550€ in regard on the 750€' P6500????
The onine seller has send me a bring back sheet with no probleme and money back in 10days
But ... after a weekend of test ...
i faced the + and -
and i decided to keep it
i love the 3.5" screen even if the quality is bad (at a professionnal use i quit never use it to seen videos, just show sometime pictures, but i certainly would love to know that i can count on my device to do it well if i need)
and i feel great with this device in my hand (never feel that befor !)
For the crapy sound it's the same with kaiser i use ad2p headset to ear musique, the only thing i loose is the a good clear sound for phone ringers (in a professional use this is not realy a aprobleme, and with my BWM-150 bt watch i quit alway in vibrate mode)
conclusion : i take it for a little "regression", and keep the best
i hope that HTC will make the same device with vga cristal clear screen and some sound improvement
i think with those improvement , i would have the perfect device form me (and a lot of people !!)
PLEASE HTC !!!
Regards
Hi,
where can i find italian rom for p6500?
thanks,
Alberto

Xperia X1 vs. Touch HD

Hi everyone,
I'm in a bit of a dilemna here - my Prophet just died due to massive ice tea overdose, so I'm in the market for a new phone. And as luck would have it, my O2 contract is coming up for renewal next month.
I can get an Xperia X1 for 220 Euros and a Touch HD for 250. What should I go for?
I like the idea of a hardware QWERTY keyboard and the D-Pad, but the HD's screen is just so sexy. Are there any other reasons to go for the HD? How does the battery life compare between the two? Sound quality?

Might be picking up an Xperia myself tomorrow but am worried about the build quality with the massive problem of the casing cracking and coming apart.
Hopefully it won't affect the latest ones.
Thanks for the insight orb3000.

I don't see any 2009 phones coming up on that at the moment so fingers crossed they have sorted it out.
Damn, that sucks. Sort of tilting me back toward the touch HD - how're the SIP options on there? Two-thumb-typing possible?
I use both thumbs to type on my Touch HD all the time, and it's pretty good. It takes a bit of getting used to - it is much easier to type the wrong letter.
Some apps have been developed to arrange an alternative keyboard (see "FingerKeyboard" in Blackstone -> Themes, Apps, Software forum), but they do end up taking about half the screen. So you Xperia gets the bigger screen when you type.
BUT! The Touch HD's video playback (once you get it working...with the help of SDTuneUp, CorePlayer) is amazing. 3.8" of screen awesomeness.
Battery-life wise...I don't use wifi that often, and I'm holiday-ing in Hong Kong at the moment, so no 3G roaming. After about a day I'm down to around 70% if I don't use it much. Use it a lot (wifi/3G on most of the time) and you'll drain it in a day, easy. But that's the story for most devices. The easiest way around that is to find some replacement batteries no eBay and the like...they are pretty cheap.
In my opinion, if you are going to do a lot of typing, the Xperia appears the way to go (you can even get TF3D for it). But if you're looking for that multimedia-kick, then the Blackstone is the only drug for you =]
Hope that helps a little.
Hmmm, that's the thing - all I really need is a PDA phone that doubles as an MP3 player and ebook reader. I would've gone with a Touch Diamond, but there's a huge thread about it having problems with audio lag - that would pretty much screw it in terms of using it as an MP3 player...
Do the HD and X1 have any problems like that? Skipping/lag/pausing during audio or video playback?
How about build quality on the HD? No problems with cracking, creaking or anything like that?
Thanks a lot for your help so far, everyone
hmm...
....if you're not going to do much typing or watching of videos..
if you don't mind waiting for a bit, then maybe the Touch Diamond 2 is the phone for you.
It's basically a 3.2" version of the Blackstone, complete with WVGA res. The processor, ram are all the same and has an improved TF3D.
As far as I can tell, Blackstone doesn't have many issues with audio playback. The music app is pretty good, and you even have an "Audio Booster" app from HTC that will give you Equaliser control plus some preset Equalisers.
Touch Diamond 2 (and Touch Pro 2) are going to come out some time in Q2 (probably late Q2)...so that's a 3 month window where these phones could come out. They might be good for you. Also cheaper....probably.
I've been doing some reading in the Diamond/Touch Pro/Xperia and HD forums, and it seems that they all have the problem with skipping.
Is there an older HTC device that's usable as an MP3 player (i.e. no skipping, good quality, low noise floor) and has HSDPA? Preferably with a 3.5mm jack, but ExtUSB is OK too...
i got an x1 and love it. had the choice of htc hd and bb storm when i bought it in november and still very happy with my choice
No cracking casing or skipping MP3s?
the silver x1's seem to crack, my black one is knocked about everyday at work and theres no cracks only a bit of paint coming off the metal battery cover edge,

yes had to send it back as it did get cracks, but sony replaced it and had no probs with this handset, which is silver.
never had and skipping in mp3's
i was hesitant on getting the touch HD because of lack of a hardware input method, since i was so used to my touch dual, orange dint carry the xperia so i dint really have much of a choice. im extremely happy with it though, because the screen is so large, the on screen inputs are actually quite comfortable to use, while i cant type as fast as my touch dual, i can type almost as fast.
my friend is having lots of issues with his xperia, cracking case, sluggish performance, poor battery life.
the HD actually has very very surpisingly good battery life. thers a good review at this site if u wanna check it out:

Just got my new phone

Hi all!
I just wanted to let the ROM cookers here know that i will no longer test newly cooked ROM's.
This is because i'm typing this on my new Touch Pro 2. I just got it 2 days and its amazing. My old Vox went to my dad, he just needs a stable and Dutch ROM. So I've installed the NeoRose ROM on it.
Everybody best of luck in enhancing your Vox I'm off to the Rhodium part of this forum.
Greetz,
FeareX
i'm also going to buy me a touch pro 2
farewell FeareX..
will be part someday
If someone has doubt about buying a TP2, i can give info.
All i can say now is that it works amazingly. It's extremely fast compared to the Vox. The keyboard is amazing. And since i love to go on the internet on my phone, nothing can beat this phone.
BTW, i took some pictures today, and they where very good. I actually was very surprised by the results. The images are very sharp.
Grtz,
FeareX

I am jealous too. How about audio reproduction - specifically through speakers considering it does not have external stereo speakers.

What HTC to buy?

Hi all,
I don't know if it's the rigth forum section to write... but...
I had an HTC Wizard (QTek9100) with WM5.0... I use it to call (I synchronize my contact using gmail), write some SMS (very useful the qwert keyboard), play some game, and as navigator by TomTom sw and external GPS.
I would like to change it... and I'm interested (for the price also) to two different HTC phone: Diamond and Tattoo (HTC Click).
The price is about the same (diamond is slightly cheaper).
I think that Diamond is very good (above all for VGA display, but resistive), but I read that it has some battery problem.
Tattoo has more ram, no problem about battery, no limit about storage expansion, but a little resistive display (240x320 I think is the smallest resolution for a Android device).
Android make me curious, but I would like above all a device reliable for my standard operation (so the battery is important also)...
I would like to use it to navigate, but I hasn't a flat mobile connection yet (in my country our company are very slow to follow the people needs )... I hope to get a mobile flat in the next month.
I'm also a sw developer... so in the free time I would like to write some program for my phone... but... the free time is very scarce...
But...
What do you think abou my needs?
Is a good idea to buy a diamond, or a Tatto is better?
Thanks
Both are good devices and will cater for your needs, but my only question is why not go for a newer, more advanced device? (Obviously I realize cost is an issue)
Yes... you're right... I'm searching for a cheaper solution...
I'm worried for what I read about the diamond battery... and I think that Android can be interesting... but the Android display make me unhappy...
get a kaiser if you want cheap and good. they can be had for quite cheap. i will sell you mine for $110 plus shipping. but only if you are located in the usa.

Sorry... I'm in Italy.
If you are comming from a hardware keyboard device, you´ll find better going into same line...
You can think on Raphael or Rhodium (if $ is not a prob)
Let us know what you´ve got

Yes, you're right about qwerty... but $ is a prob...
I found the phones I spoke about at the same good price... and I'd like to choose one or the other...
In conclusion...
I prefear the Diamond, but I'm scaried for the battery duration and the finger usability... above all for the battery... but android seems to be a nice idea...
I was just in the same situation as you, I wanted a keyboard & budget would allow me to look at the touch pro 2. But I found the build quality on the new HTcs simply very poor so went backwards & settled for the Raphael which can be found cheap.
If you can find a Raphael in your budget I would go for it over the diamond. The diamond is a nice sized device but the d-pad is not the best, battery life is not the best but a lot of the big complainers have issues due to custom rom problems.
I had the Kaiser before, nice device, good battery life & superb build quality.
Diamond or Raphael would be my choices bang for buck !.

Really thanks for your suggestions.
Speaking about new phones (in the showcase of some shop) I found a Raphael. It's a little bit larger than diamond... and more expensive: 300 € vs 200 (for Diamond or Click).
Do you really think that HTC quality is decreased? So you think that Click are only an expensive toy?
Do you think that using a better battery I can solve the problem without make the phone very large?
i had the rapheal, and i loved it while i was using it. it was a huge improvement over my wing i will say tho the battery life did kinda suck but it didnt bother me that much, a car charger helped me with that i wouldnt go for the diamond just because it doesnt have a querty keyboard. i cant stand touch screen keyboards, so thats y i would go for the rapheal. another great device to look into that u could find cheap on craigslist or something would b the touch pro 2. i have that phone now. its got way better battery life then the rapheal. the keyboard is better to, the rapheal buttons are really small and it could b agravating sometimes. the touch pro 2 has a nice large touch screen display, tf3d seems alot more responsive, theres alot of nice stable roms available, from having both phones i can tell u that the touch pro 2 is deffinitly a faster more stable device with good battery life, and if all else fails u can run andriod on it too if i were u the touch pro 2 is prob only gonna b alil bit more then the rapheal and i can tell u that the extra 50 bucks will be well worth it good luck wih ur find

Raphael then or Universal or G1 if you want to try young Android
Keep your eyes open for a used TP2 around xda market or on ebay.

Thank you to.
However I bought the Diamond... I get in my hands Diamond and Click... and Click seems me a real toy.
Now I'm using the Diamond, but I'm not really satisfied: the UMTS signal is very low...
Try changing radio version, also check & update ROM if can.
You have a few options on battery upgrades from standard size with a little extra power to simply quite huge & twice the size of standard.
I think you will miss the keyboard.
Touch Pro 2 is more than 50bucks more than a Raphael ! the hardware is good but the build quality & style can be beat by ToyzRus !! Got 3 falling to bits in our office.
Good choice you made.
The diamond is an incredible device, and its quality is much better than the click.
Try the radio version found in my signature, it has good battery life and signals (such as umts and gps) are great. It's the most popular radio for the diamond.
For the keyboard, I suggest you download Fingerkeyboard, which is a very accurate keyboard. It works great on my diamond.
