Hi there,
after updating from AS3.8 to version 4.0, AS doesn't connect anymore. I uninstalled and re-installed several times as well w/o any success. Any help would be appriciated.
try removing the old parthership in application data in documents and settings prob under ms activesync
Try to install the latest oficial release of Activesync 4.0 (Build 4343) then with the PPC on the cradle and the PC within Windows, swap your cradle's USB cable to some other port on your PC. It will go through the "new device" detection process again and it should work this time. At least it worked for me...
Good luck!
Rayan
Strange enough... after this has been a problem for about three days and I tried a lot including several reboots of my PC or soft resets of my XDA II, it just connected while I had the device sitting in the cradle for charging... so, I cannot say why it works now, but most important it does
Thanks anyway, guys!

Hi Folks, I have just got my hands on a brand spanking new O2 XDA Exec and what a beauty it is too!!!
I am having a few irritating problems though... If I plug in the charger the handset charges just fine. When I plug in the USB cable and connect to my pc it fails and in order for me to get it working I have to perform a repair to the active sync software on the pc. This has to be done repeatedly whenever I boot up my machine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Can you help a first time XDA user?
Cheers in anticipation
Weird!
I hope you are using Windows XP with SP2 running ActiveSync v4.1.
If not you'll have to be shot at dawn.
Andy
thanks Andy for your reply...
I will head out at dawn with my service revolver...
I'm affraid I'm running W2K with active sync v4.1.0
Any sugestions other than upgrading to xp?
guess latest sp for 2k and other windows update
and maybe usb drivers for the motherboard
cheers Rudegar,
I'm running W2K service pack 4 and auto update regularly! I think I'm fully up to date...
Oh, another thought...
You're not connecting via an 'USB Hub' are you?
If you are, I'm afraid I'll have to flay the man-flesh from your puny frame.
I have had no experience of said 'hubs' but I read a lot of reference to them here & AVIODING their use.
No doubt you have COMPLETELY uninstalled ActiveSync, rebooted, reinstalled & rebooted again. Doing this may give your system the proverbial 'kick up the arse'.
Andy
Not a USB hub in sight Andy!
I have indeed un-installed rebooted and re-installed as you mention and still the problem persists...I will see what happens when I reboot next time
If the problem isn't resolved I'll install XP I've just been lazy no to do so up until now...
Cheers
Hmmm.
I have been a user of Win2K (many moons ago) and am not necessarily against its use, but in the context of this discussion, I don not actually know if things CAN actually work under 2K or not.
HOWEVER
BT support was only 'properly' introduced under XP and even that had to wait for SP2, so go figure for Win2K <- hence may be an idea to look at that monster known as microsoft.com to see what pops up in the Knowledge Database re 'Windows 2000 & Bluetooth'
Now, XP SP2 was not perfect by a hell of a long shot - in my mind it is SEVERELY lacking and as a result I spent almost 2 weeks unearthing bugs, workarounds and tracking down suitable drivers!!!!! All as the result of a) piss poor programming and b) the unnecessary restrictions place on the 'proper' WIDCOMM Bluetooth drivers put in place by its new owner Broadcom.
The pitfalls re: XP SP2 & things I have learnt / discovered I therefore recorded for all....
Andy
BTW, Out of all those I've used over the years, there is only 1 Windows based OS other than XP running SP2 that I have any faith in & that was good old trusty Win98!!!!!! Win2K just got on my tits for some reason & didn't last very long!
well both my cradle and my bluetooth dongle are connected to a hub
and i dont have any issues
again i would check for usb drivers for the motherboard
like from via, sis, ali, nvidia, intel or who ever makes the chipset
on the motherboard
cpu-z shold show which chipset the motherboards use
Cheers Guys,
Having reinstalled the active sync software for a fifth time! I seem to have solved the problem!!
At least for now... I guess that there was a problem with the USB drivers that has been fixed it seems fine for now but I'll post again if the problem comes back
Many thanks
Mark
My XDA will no longer sync with my desktop PC (Running WinXP) via the cradle on USB or by bluetooth. The PDA has been previously synchronising untill the XDA was left uncharged for about 3 months. I have tried all the obivious things I can think of i.e
Disabling Firewall, Reloading MS Active Sync 3.7/3.8, removing all devices from other USB ports, XDA Hard reset, I have also tried a different PC running win 2000 the result is the same.
When the XDA is inserted into the cradle the PC makes the acknlowledge sound and the device shows CONNECTING USB but thats as far as it goes. The same thing happens when I try a bluetooth connection , the XDA shows connecting via bluetooth but does not connect.
I was wondering if it is possible to perform a ROM upgrade via the SD card, if so how does one perform such an operation. I am wondering if I have some sort of file corruption/missing drivers on the XDA!!!
Any ideas or comments will be greatfully received.
tried a hardreset ?
Hey all, new to the forum.. great site with some great info! I currently own a hermes, and upgraded to wm6.. however, when i connect to active sync through my usb, it gives me this noise (regular usb connect sound doubled) and active sync cannot detect my device. Shortly after it just disconnects and goes to charging. I know this is not a usb port issue because i have tried all ports, connected my digital camera etc etc. What could be the problem? Any help is appreciated... because having 25% of my contacts is a pita!! lol
Are you using the USB cable that came with your phone?
I have many USB devices and find that some of the cables do not work due to the amount of pins that are connected at each end.
Also what version of OS do you use and activesync/WMDC?
I have same problem with WM6 and ActiveSync4.5. I'm using the same USB cable I was prior to upgrading to WM6 and never had any problems back then. Have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling AS but still no luck
Right now, I'm trying to find some other alternatives to AS which can sync Outlook contacts and calendar appointments etc.
Quick question, when you guys connect does activesync get stuck at Retrieving Settings????
I get problems with the actual syncing of information. The device is recognised and sync starts, it just takes ages and can fail sometimes.
Other days it syncs straight away without problems.
WM6 AUS ROM
Vista
WMDC 6.1
Ok I am no newbie to this, but I am sick of the frustration that comes with this problem. I've had me TC for a couple months now and it will not be recognized with my PC. I've had this problem before.... deleting the partnership, changing the USB ports and settings, downloading the newest sync software, and shutting down the fire wall, yet nothing works. The only thing I can do is use Bluetooth, which is to slow to transfer files. I need some help here, because even backing up everything on the phone and doing a hard reset takes too long to restore what I have on it now.
try to unmark ->settings->connections->usbtoPC-> enhanced network functions.
sorry, i have a german one, so look for that function.
I have the same problem with my o2 xda orbit 2.
I found that if I turned off the bluetooth and wifi it connected ok but even that seems to have stopped working now.
I got it back
I shut off the windows firewall with Vista and it works every time now. This is odd since I always had it on before and never made a change to the settings. In fact once I had given permission for windows mobile center to run with the security I never had this problem before. All I can say is it is a serious pain to disable it every time I want to access my files on the phone.
the joys of activesync......
I'm running XP-Pro on both my home and desktop PC's
with my orbit 2 I have no problem connecting at home, but failed miserably at work (other than the first time after I'd installed activesync).
I'd concluded that it was my firewall settings (which are outside of my authority to alter) we're the cause of the problem and gave up.
What usually happens is an activesync connection is established (I alway click on cancel in the first box - because I don't want to sync files etc, just to be able to explore and install software), and then when I click on explore (after it says connected) it just hangs for a minutes or so, before disconnecting.
However, I hooked up my Orbit2 to my laptop in my hotel last night (to charge) and I noticed that I could explore. OK I thought, it was the firewall.
But then today I tried exactly the same thing, and we're back to the non communicating version.
Any ideas,
Any ways to force activesync into submission - even if just at the explore level?
Thanks
simple joys
Well Vista doesn't use active sync, but I'll try to give you what I have learned. First it always helps to have the latest version of the software. I'd delete active sync from the computer and end the partnership on the phone. The phone then says to hook it up with a computer to establish a connection. Before you do restart both. Download newest version from windowsmobile, install and restart again. Disable firewall and any antivirus ( it makes a difference ) and try to establish the new partnership. If that doesn't work sometimes the comm ports are wrong and you have to find out which your phone uses. Once I had a Moto Q9h unbranded that would not sync with USB no matter what I did from the start, but it would work with a bluetooth sync. That was the worst speed ever. Anyway Good Luck.
Thanks,
yes I am using the latest (for XP) active sync.
I also uninstalled it / re-installed it
I also deleted the profile
All to no avail
Virus / Firewall settings are locked on this laptop.
Same problem
I'm using vista, uninstalled and reinstalled the last version of ActiveSync, deleted the partnership and the phone does not not connect to the pc. I dunno what to do .
p.s. : firewall is off.
no sync with xp and vista
hi
I see that Im not alone...Isync my polaris with my personal pc (vista 32) and with my professional pc (xp pro).
my rom is Aserg (many rom tested before like Bepe....same PB)
its impossible to sync both pc. I have to erase partner ship each time I want to sync.
Im not sure, but I think that windows 61 is responsible. Is that possible ? thank you for helping me !

You said you updated active sync, but Vista doesn't use that program. You need to use Windows mobile device center. If you go to windowsmobile.com there is an update you can download that you install with the phone connected. That might work.

You have to delete every time, because once it is synced with one computer it establishes a relationship with that pc or laptop. The two operating systems use two different programs, but really the computers should have the partnership saved. I'm not sure if the phone can have two as well though.
Hello everybody, i'm new to this stuff and after reading the forum i finally decidede to install WM 5.0 to my Blue Angle. Everything went great. I even installed some nice software from SPB.
My Questions are:
1) If i try to syncronize my pocket pc with my pc(Win 7 x64, asus p5q deluxe, e8500) i get an erro and nothing happens. On my laptop running the same OS everything went good. I can syncronize and work like it si suppoused to be. What is the problem on the PC?
2) If i listen to some mp3's, dealing with the problem of wich i put as my ringtone, the sound stops. No more mp3 listening, no more ringin. I need to soft reset and then if i don't try to listen to the mp3's everything works well. Why this problem.
3) The wireless is a big problem. I can't connect my wireless at home(need to specify mac at rooter admin-page and need to write IP and DNS to phone, I've done all that). I can't connect to a wireless wich has WPA, WEP. If it's free i can connect.
Pre-Thanks to everybody.
you may want to take it to a newer version of wm. Check out the BA forums for more up to date info and answers to all your questions. As far as windows 7, you need a modded driver which you will find there as well.
Hello again. I flashed the phone with the WM6.5 rom from sun_dream. Everything works great. I can sync on my laptop on the pc at work with XP but still on my desktop at home i can't. I have don the procedure that was writen by chef in one post and still nu luck.
Any help or ideas?

I resolved the problem. I reinstalled the windows and now it works perfectly. Thanks for your help.
